    K-Fried Chicken - Soy & Garlic
    Aaron K.

I really wanted to like Yasijang since it is close to where I live and run by some genuinely nice Korean folks, both in the kitchen and front of house. Unfortunately, most of the dishes fell pretty flat for me. Here's a breakdown of everything we tried: Mini Jeon - This came out as a set of three mini pancakes, and while they were fried expertly with a nice crisp exterior, I did not really get much of the ingredient flavors at all, which was supposed to have an array of vegetables and seafood. Truffle Bosot Fry - These were fantastic. Each enoki was fried so the stems were splayed out and then dusted in truffle salt. It was clear the chef has a deft hand at the fryer, as both of the first two starters had an amazing crunch to them. Spicy Tuna Tower - This seemed like a popular item, but it was really disappointing. It felt like a quantity over quality dish, with the spicy tuna indeed piled high, but very clumpy, as if it had just been scooped straight out of the fridge, and not a pleasant texture. There was not much flavor or spice to it and the kappa maki rolls that the tuna sat atop were unfortunately not made well, as most of them fell apart just from picking them up with chopsticks. K-Fried Chicken - Pretty good value since you get 8 decently sized pieces for $20, or $22 if you want to add a sauce. It was curious that they do not let you do half and half, since the sauces are likely pre-made and that is such a common option at most other KFC spots. The bigger issue was the fry on the chicken as huge pieces of batter were missing from every piece, and it did not have that signature shattering crunch I expect, which suggested the oil was not hot enough and that they did not double fry the chicken. The soy and garlic flavor was actually pretty good, so it was doubly disappointing that the chicken was not fried properly. Hwe-Muchim. - This dish was an absolute disaster. The cubes of fish and salad were absolutely drowning in cho-jang, and it was really unbalanced, so all you tasted was gochujang. The lettuce was so wilted under the sheer amount of liquid that it made the dish difficult to eat. I actually took this home, drained most of the liquid, rinsed off the fish, added fresh greens and a homemade dressing, and it tasted much better. The staff were friendly enough, but this place is clearly targeting a drinking or late-night crowd so I would avoid if your main goal is to enjoy the food itself. Seems like a fun enough place if you were just wanting to stop in and have some snacks with your drinks or as an end of night stop as the 4-cha or 5-cha (IYKYK).

Food and drinks were good - my personal favorites were the samgyeopsal and corn cheese. Drinks were good too though they only had soju/beer/sake and no cocktails. Very easing to get seating on a friday night and staff was attentive. Place was dimly lit and not too loud inside.

We had the dragon roll, fried chicken w/spicy mayo, bulgogi, and bento box. It was all very delicious. The staff were very friendly.

Easy seating (and parking) for an early dinner on a Monday night. The restaurant was dark, and we noticed an installation on the wall. It turns out people collect their bottle caps in clear capsules. Fun idea. We were very pleased to hear Woodz for most of our dining experience. I love jokbal, and I've never had it served in this style. Usually I've had large platters of sliced meat, but this was a bowl of the boney parts. It was so delicious. It melted right off the bone, and it had a little heat. I want to go back for this alone. Also enjoyed a dish of kimchi fried rice and sotteok sotteok with a happy hour priced soju.

The food is good and the staff was attentive. The Samgyeopsal was a personal standout, as was the kimchi fried rice. It was a little jarring to see that they have sushi. We did not try any of the sushi - but it just seemed a little out of place. But the korean food was good. For a pocha, I knock a star because it was actually surprisingly quiet inside and the drinks were a little limited. They had soju/beer/sake, but no cocktails or pitchers.

Wow, this place is a 10/10. Authentic, delicious and great service. Everyone was so kind, attentive and enthusiastic. Our server even surprised me with a birthday sweet treat and candle :) so kind. We felt like we were in Korea/Japan being here. Love the fusion of options to choose from, food to drinks! We got the odeng fish cake soup, spicy tuna tower, 1,000 roll, and sashimi salad. Also got enoki fry and lion king not pictured as we devoured too quickly. Everything was 10/10!! Only thing I'd say is that the Lion King was too sweet for me but was still good. Got the glass cold sake which was nice. Kirin and Asahi are classic choices. Would definitely be back here!!

I came for dinner (made a reservation) before the symphony (about 1.5 block walk from Herbst theatre). From the restaurant's website, I imagined the restaurant to be much larger. Instead, it was small - probably sits 25 (tightly) without the bar and maybe 20 with the bar. My table was next to the bar - felt cramped sitting in the corner - that's why it is a 4 star rating. Food was served temperature hot with kindness. Flavors, smell and presentation were good. I would recommend the sausage basket, a variety of different sausages, for an appetizer. It's a good segue into your main entrees which are small shared plates. They have a bar challenge - filling up a vase with empty bottle caps. Thought that was fun and an incentive/motivation for returning. The restaurant definitely would be a good bar place to hang out and simply have fun. Service was excellent - orders kept coming out as well as for deliveries. The wait staff always had a smile and kept asking if we are okay or if we need anything else. I thought the restaurant stools were unusual. Since there is no space to put your coat, purse, bags, etc., the stools open up for storage. I thought this was cleaver.

Just had an amazing Korean meal and the service was great. Everything was delicious. The bulldak chicken was a standout - super crispy with a fantastic spice and great texture. The corn cheese is always a classic and definitely one of my favorites. We also tried the deep fried rice cakes and sausages which were very good, especially with the glaze. They were soft on the inside but perfectly crispy on the outside. The budae jjigae (army soup) was also good, with the sausage and spam being perfect for the rainy weather. The musubi roulette which comes with 6 pieces and only one contains wasabi. So interesting and fun! The interior is lively and cool with all the led signages. I plan to come back for happy hour soon! Cheers!

This place was so good and so affordable. Everything on the menu is extremely shareable and great with friends. My friends and I practically ordered the menu but the few standouts were the wings, the wagyu fried rice, and the stairway to heaven. So affordable for so much sushi. And the fish tasted super fresh. Loved all of it.

Nice lil retro cozy pocha spot at civic center that has your usual Korean bar dishes but also a variety of sushi rolls, nigiri's, and omakase style selections! Came on a Fri night and got a bar seat fairly quickly but would def make a reservation as the place looks full. Had our order taken pretty quick and the food came out pretty quick as well. We ordered the budae jjigae and grilled pork belly with kimchi. The jjigae was super thick and flavorful, they didn't skimp on the meat at all! Pork belly was nice and juicy with a good amount of crisp! Saw a lot of more enticing dishes come out to other tables so would def come back to try!

Food - 5/5 - mmm...mmHmm...I like this place because it was a unique blend of Japanese and Authentic Korean dishes. I'm a big fan of soup-- NAGASAKI CHAMPON--had seafood, noodles and a light white broth (not collagen enriched) but it was still good. Daughter enjoyed her--milk yogurt soda, calamansi Korean soda and veggie bibimbap with bulgogi + tofu extra. Service - 5/5 - I love how the Korean lady was so polite and came back to our table --to ask if everything was okay. Wasn't sure if this was a kid friendly place --as it looked more like a Korean bar --but the owner gave my daughter a bunch of delicious Korean sodas. Ambiance - 5/5 - I like the ambiance and the nightlife--it was a horrible walk on Eddy St. Tenderloin but this food was worth the walk. Nice place to party with co-workers or close friends--on Van Ness Ave.

Cozy Korean spot near Civic Center, serving comfort Korean classics and a variety of tapas! Great service and didn't have to wait on a Thursday night. The Bulgogi nachos are beautiful, and the bulgogi serving is plentiful! The nachos themselves are delightfully roasted. The truffle enoki is a MUST if you're a truffle fan. Reminds me of the Mensho Ramen enoki appetizers! We also got the 49s roll, beautifully arranged with a refreshing bite of lemon on top. The kimchi fried rice is also a classic you can't miss.

Made a reservations for noon on a Tuesday-- just in case. Didn't need it but glad we made it anyways. Service was decent in this clean, small and slightly dark environment. Food was as expected and we were not disappointed.

The restaurant can be a little hidden, but it's pretty easy to find with the instructions they send before your reservation. It's located above Fermentation Lab. Just head up the stairs and you'll find it inside the old Ichi Pub space. The restaurant is small and intimate, with only 9 seats at the counter. When you arrive, walk through the Yuji curtain and check in directly with the chef since there is no host. My biggest concern with set menus is always whether I'll feel satisfied and full afterward, but that was definitely not an issue here. My husband and I were both very satisfied after the meal. Every dish was delicious, and you could really taste the quality of each ingredient. Highlights for me were the bluefin sashimi, which was so buttery and soft that it literally melted in your mouth. The skillfish was rich and decadent, and the citrus and ginger balanced the flavors. The fried fish was another favorite as it reminded me of the savory Japanese rice crackers I loved growing up. Since it's located in Japantown, parking can be challenging. We had to loop around several times looking for street parking and even had two cars take spots we were waiting for, so definitely give yourself extra time before your reservation. I would highly recommend this place! The chef changes the menu periodically based on what's in season, so it's a great excuse to come back and try something new in the future. Total spent for 2: $462

I ordered the 24-item Mizuho Menu, as did all the other guests. There were 5 guests in total (the restaurant can seat up to 8 people). Here is the menu I was served at the end of May: 1. starter: ama ebi cracker with caviar, pickled lotus root with shaved bonito, crab salad 2. nigiri 4x: isaki, iwana, myabi tai, kanpachi 3. sashimi: chutoro, hotate with caviar, umi masu, sawada 4. nigiri 8x: hirame, suzuki, inada, kurodai, shima aji, kamasu, otoro, aged A5 wagyu, kinmedai 5. hot dish: miso soup with inari and shrimp head, hokkaido uni with marinated ikura, black cod, umi masu with raw yellow egg and caviar 6. dessert: matcha ice cream with strawberry Frankly, the food was excellent. The starter was not very creative, but the nigiri were great. The sashimi selection was very nice, with some fish you do not see as often in omakase menus, such as isaki, iwana, and myabi tai, a kind of tai. Sawada was delicious and is always a good inclusion. We asked for some wasabi and received a small cup of kizami wasabi, a chopped wasabi with a slightly crunchy texture, which was a nice touch. For the nigiri, all the classics of a good omakase were present: otoro, kinmedai, shima aji, uni, hotate, and wagyu. Kamasu was also included, and it is one of my favorite fish. It is also worth noting that they age both their beef and their tuna, including the otoro that was served. A few pieces were torched, maybe a few too many. Overall, the service was not memorable, although chef Ron Au was friendly and nice. The place itself felt a bit questionable, and my expectations were not very high after the beginning of the meal. But the food was truly excellent, and for that reason I think it deserves 5 stars.
