Well damn... I really wanted to like this place. It's so cute and cozy and tucked into the adorable, marion street in Oak Park. I read some reviews that made me skeptical but alas I had to find out for myself.. bummer.... the food was not great. Service was excellent place was clean and nice atmosphere but that's where the love affair ends for me....sadly. I am a sucker for brisket anytime I try a new bbq place and who says no to mac and cheese?! So I went with a brisket sandwich and sides of corn bread and mac and cheese. When I ordered the mac the cashier made sure to mention it was topped with a cracker crust and that gave me the feels because I expected a buttery baked on cracker crust, yes please! To my disappointment what arrived instead was what tasted like velveeta mac and cheese topped with cheez it's, no joke.... cheez it's just crunched up and thrown on top?!!! The humanity! It was a very sad day for me to leave over a half of my mac to go to waste because it was not worth the calories :( I thought to myself, "ok, so mac isn't great but brisket always saves the day"..... bummer x2. Great location comes with a hefty price tag for its customers. Ouch! Expect to pay $15 for lunch. One entree, drink and side. Don't get me wrong, the BBQ is delicious but when you serve a Western Salad with loads of lettuce and only 3oz of actual meat, it's a hard sale for Oak Parkers who want to get their money's worth. I really want to like this place but every time I come and pay and eat, it leaves me wanting more from the experience. The food here used to be so good, but it's really gone downhill. We've gotten take out a handful of times over the past year, and kept thinking it would get better as they adjusted to COVID. It never did. The first issue was bones in the pulled chicken sandwich. At first I let it slide, but it happened two more times with even bigger pieces of bone. And then the sandwiches stopped coming with sauce on them and the ribs/chicken tenders didn't come with any sauce either, even when I requested extra while ordering online. The prices seem to have gone up with the recent menu changes, and the amount of food we received seems to be getting smaller. The last straw was the order being wrong and having to go back for items. It's such a bummer, I used to love Q! I wonder if the other locations are doing better, but at the same time I feel I've given them a fair share of chances. read more

So, having been to the LaGrange location for years, there is a certain expectation walking into this latest branch. While they do an excellent job of moving people through the line (so much faster than LaGrange - but maybe that is because of the clientele on that specific day?) I have to say I am shocked at the price differences. Maybe they changed the way they price the two meat place at the other locations as well, but everything seems to be an upcharge now. When two people are paying $44 for lunch, and not drinking, it is getting a little out of control. And, when did they reduce down to 3 sauces from the old 4 they had? Am I living in another version of the Q world? I still wish they had ham on the menu, that's been a constant complaint of mine for years. Nice design to the location - much better layout of seating than other locations. We might come back to this one, but I detest Oak Park in general having lived through their restrictive parking practices as a renter and then an owner in the past and with the construction in the largest open lot going on, not really looking forward to reliving the nightmare with any regularity. read more

This could be a five star review with one small tweak. I ordered a take-out from this location for lunch today. Got it home and ate it. Delicious, and the employees were great as well. After eating, I looked at my receipt only to discover that a $4 charge was added to my bill for COVID. I gave a generous tip, and this charge is not being used at the LaGrange location. So, trying to remain level headed about this, I thought, oh, that's for their extra expenses for take out during COVID. Then I realized I had received no napkins, no utensils, and no mention of extra charge. I will not return for this reason. read more

Pretty good overall. This was my first visit and after perusing the menu board for a moment or two, I asked the staffperson what they would recommend. He advised the brisket dinner, which came with two hush puppies and two sides. So I ordered it with baked beans and Cole Slaw and took it to go. One thing that I must have overlooked at the store was sauces. For the most part, my brisket was straight BBQ, hardly any sauce. It was actually pretty good that way, I'm kind of a purist, I guess. But I would have liked to.have tasted a sauce or two with it. Sides were good, especially the baked beans. Price was $11.99... but the brisket is a "premium meat" so add a buck ninety-nine to that. Walked to Q BBQ following a tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio. Conveniently located near the FLW location. Food delicious, especially the corn bread. A comfortable setting. But the customer service went over and beyond when I left my souvenirs from FLW's place and they shipped them to me! I highly recommend supporting this establishment. Glad I tried this spot for delivery. I moved to the elm wood park area not too long ago and have tried a couple other places to be greatly disappointed. To be honest this wasn't my first pick. My neice and nephew really wanted bbq and so we stopped here for lunch. We ordered wings (got the plate with two sides), a pulled chicken sandwich (spicy fries), chili and few sides! I also ordered Kinglahger which was my first time... I was very happy with the service, there are several bbq sauce to pick from and they are all very unique in taste. I personally enjoyed their sweet and spicy sauce which was amazing. I loved their ambiance and location is unbeatable. Our server Alessia was wonderful she promptly checked on our table to make sure we were having good time and didn't need anything. When I told her we're almost done, she brought togo boxes even before the thought occurred, it's as if she read our mind. It's Memorial Day so I'm patient waiting for bbq treat. The restaurant was packed so it must be good bbq. One hour later, I was able to walk out with my on-line order. Once I got home and unpacked my treat I was certain I got the wrong order because one of the sides was unrecognizable, but smelled like brussel sprouts but it was totally burned and discussing. We were excited to try this place. We passed by the one in LaGrange and thought it was worth a try. We went to the one in Oak Park b/c it was closer to us. I was very underwhelmed with the food and most of all, the presentation. I ordered a pulled pork with no bread. I love pulled pork and I like to try them at different places. This pulled pork had cheese, but no sauce! I didn't ask for cheese. The meat was dry and the food was sloppy b/c they just plopped my meat & coleslaw on some paper, not a plate or anything on some paper!!!! The paper was all wet from the coleslaw and greasy from the meat. I also ordered the Mexican corn with thankfully came in a small bowl. It was kinda spicy but good. They give u 2 little hush puppies with the meal which were good, but they only give u 2! The presentation of the food at q bbq needs improvement. Most of the staff were really nice and helpful. I've been to better places like this, City Bbq in Downers Grove for example. I'm glad we gave this place a try. But it's kinda pricey and the quality of the food isn't worth the price. read more

I love Q BBQ! We just happened to find this place via yelp. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews..I think everything is tasty and it's not too fancy. I like to get the platter with burnt brisket ends and pulled pork with the Mexican street corn and mashed potatoes! Let me tell you the brisket ends are so BOMB!! The bbq sauces are yummy too. The only thing I would be the slightest bit of picky about is that they do not give any chips or anything to taste the sauces but that's not a deal breaker. I love this place and will keep going back! There's also a cute bakery and a coldstone creamery right by there for dessert. read more

Upon entering, really like the design of the space and the old school photos, some by Meathead Goldwyn the legendary BBQ expert. Ordered two platters with 2 meats and 2 sides and 2 drinks. $44 - steep for lunch but was hoping it'd be delicious and a hearty serving. Well, food came and my 2 meat platter was a large spoonful of burnt ends and a few small ribs. Not much. Cole slaw was decent but not better than KFC - cornbread was very good. BBQ sauce was very sweet, too much so. Not enough spice taste. Probably won't be back given the cost vs. portions - food just wasn't that good. read more

We wanted to try some BBQ and saw Q-BBQ last time we were in Oak Park. Our son lives right down the street. The restaurant is really clean and set up well. The girl who took our order was very nice, helpful and pleasant. I ordered the two meat combo & sides of mashed potato's and Mac & cheese. I chose the sliced brisket and pulled chicken. My wife & son also ordered the brisket, mashed potato's and bbq beans. I only ordered one soft drink and our bill came out to over $53.00. The Mashed Potatos were very good and my wife said the baked beans were good also. The Mac & cheese was very plain and lacked flavor. Now for the bad part...the meat....the chicken was terrible. If seemed like it was left over cold dry chicken from yesterday. The chicken had no flavor and it was so dry and hard it was barely edible. The brisket was also very hard & dry. What made it worse was it was totally cut the wrong way which made it chewy. I've had some really good brisket from Willinghams and Bledsoe's, but this brisket was not very good. All in all, we didn't complain, we just wanted to try it and weren't very pleased. It's a real nice place, but the meats just aren't very good. read more

The food was good - certainly tasted good but I'm always a little disappointed when a BBQ place undercooks their burnt ends (the ends I ordered were not burnt, but gooey and soft with very little outside crisp - kind of disappointing). The restaurant itself was very clean and the staff was friendly - atmosphere was wooden and rustic, which is exactly what I'd picture a BBQ place to look like. For the price though, it's not really worth it. If you order sides separately they come out to over $3 each with tax, but you receive receive very little for your money - maybe 1/4 of a cup of Mac which is gone in about 3 bites. If prices are readjusted, I'd visit way more often. Still, a decent place for quick BBQ if you live in oak park, but I imagine the small portion you get for the price is why the restaurant is often empty read more

I really wanted to love this place after having good experiences at the La Grange location. We've been to the Oak Park location several times and I'm sorry to say that we won't be going back anymore. The service here is just terrible. Their seating system is awkward. The first time we came, my mom tried to take my toddler to sit down at a table while we ordered and the staff went into a tizzy because we didn't have a table number yet. The restaurant was half empty, so why did it matter if she wanted to get him seated and calmed down? I chalked it up to the fact that they had recently opened and figured the staff was still being trained. The next time we came, the staff freaked out about where we could put our stroller. I insisted that it folds up and could easily fit under our table. They demanded that we go put it against the wall on the other side of the dining area and were oddly pushy about it. They don't have a parking lot, they have a kids menu, then they act like it's some huge inconvenience for you to walk in with a stroller? Oooookay? The third time we came, there was confusion with my husband's order and the cashier actually came out and tried to start an argument with him, because she wanted him to know that she had taken his order correctly and that it was his fault for being confused. It was shocking and embarrassing as we had brought friends from out of town there with us. We gave it one more shot this past weekend and had another terrible experience with the service. We told the cashier we had four adults and needed two high chairs. Another employee went to set up our table while we were ordering. When I got there and started getting our kids in their high chairs, an employee named Fefe came over and started asking me why I asked for six seats plus two high chairs when we only had four adults and two kids. I did not ask for that and clearly there was some communication issue between her and the cashier. She wanted to move us to a booth now because we were taking up took much space in the half-empty restaurant apparently. She rolled her eyes and huffed at me. It was so uncomfortable that I considered leaving right then and there, but again, we had friends with us, so I just stuck it out. There has got to be some major problem with the management here for us to have had so many poor experiences. The employees seem like they hate their jobs. The food is usually very good, so it's too bad they can't get their act together. read more

I've been to Q's a lot and should have written this review sooner. I love the consistency and quality you get from Q's! Our order has never been wrong, food is always good or great (depending on what we order) and is the same every time. Great quality control and teamwork! Also, the staff is always attentive and very nice! The main entrees are pretty much all amazing. Personally, I love the spicy wings. Obsessed. The sides are mostly good. This is without a doubt the best barbecue I have ever had. I miss the Lincoln Park location, since I used to live right around the corner from it! But it's worth a trip from the north side of Chicago to the Oak Park location, which I've done once or twice. The Oak Park location is nice, the neighborhood is quiet, and the outdoor seating is nice in the summer. I like to order their sampler platter and try a bit of everything. Their wings are the best smoked wings I've had. The sausage and smoked chicken are also above average. Burnt ends, ribs, and smoked turkey are average but those wings and sausage put it over the top. I'm also a huge fan of their sides - haven't tried one that I don't like. Maybe it's a good thing that I don't live around the corner from this restaurant anymore, I'd probably gain 100 pounds! read more
