Asian-inspired cocktails are what initially drew me to The Q Restaurant. Unfortunately, there were only two cocktails on the menu that really seemed to attempt new creations. I had the Q-tini, which included Domain de Canton ginger liqueur, and wasabi-vodka. The wasabi doesn't come out very well, but perhaps that's a good thing for the average cocktail drinker, the ginger liqueur also gets dimmed by a lot of vodka, but you get quiet a bit of booze in 1 drink. We started with the scallion pancakes, which are greasy, savory and delicious. The pancakes are nice and crispy but still somewhat soft on the inside. We also ordered a Boston Red Sox Roll, which was very well prepared. It had large slabs of tuna wrapped around the outside, interspersed with avocado, and spicy tuna on the inside. It was fresh and light, yet complex. We also split a hot pot with herbal broth, thinly sliced chicken and udon noodles. Our waitress was very good about explaining all the details and how everything works. All of the hot pots come with an array of both sauces and vegetables. This is the fun part as you get to mix and match things to your own liking, and cook the food in the broiling, delicious broth. Our herbal broth was very flavorful and an excellent choice. A great place to go with a group of people with a wide variety of palates. Chinese dishes are solid, the hot pot is awesome and they also offer Thai and Japanese options (which I cannot vouch for). The Mala broth is the best, although my Irish bf likes the basic beef broth. You can get a split pot so you can have the best of both worlds. Q Restaurant does a decent job of satisfying my hot pot cravings when I'm too lazy to prepare it on my own. The lamb combo comes with a decent amount of meat and vegetables but do not come if you are ravenous; it will not fill you up. Unfortunately the spicy broth isn't as spicy as I'd like, though it is flavorful and pungent (you will end up smelling like it so don't wear any favorite clothes). I also did not like how the sha cha sauce came in a small dipping dish because mine constantly needed to be refilled (along with my water), and the waiter was often nowhere to be found. The aroma when you walk in is just incredible. The food is fantastic. Very clean. My new favorite spot. Super friendly staff as well.

Everything was amazing! From getting seated to leaving. It was a full house right around 6pm when we arrived and were luckily seated immediately at the sushi bar. I've been here a few times for hot pot, have not tried the sushi yet. Atmosphere is nice, modern and comfortable. Prices are a bit cheaper than other places. I usually order off the a la carte menu as I prefer to eat mostly meats or seafood and skip the veggies. The quality is good and the amount is decent. The restaurant is located in Chinatown, close to Downtown. Parking is a negative sometimes, depending on what time you go. I didn't feel like this place was worthy of the 4 stars it has. First impression: the interior is rough and a bit dated. Maybe if they turned the lights down a bit, it would be less obvious. The menu was extensive, but I finally landed on the chirashi. It's generally my go-to at sushi places because I get to try a bit of everything, and they're usually really beautifully presented. I felt a pang of disappointment when the waitress laid down my plate in front of me. The portion size was respectable, and it was only $18 (I'm used to paying about $30), but it only came with 5 kinds of fish, and the presentation was pretty unimaginative. Normally chirashi has some veggies in it for texture and color, but all I got was some spiralized daikon and a pile of rice with a flower. The fish was okay, but not mind blowing. I ended up ordering a plate of unagi sashimi to supplement my dinner, noting that the price on the menu was $6. It was really soft and tasted kind of odd. Almost like...dirt? When I received the bill, I saw that it was $8. I looked back at the menu and saw that 2 pieces cost $6 and 3 pieces cost $8, so apparently the waitress took the liberty of upgrading me without asking. Thanks for that. read more

This food is always amazing, and for a great price. A lot of the sushi rolls are $10 or less and they are sooooo good! The hot pot is a must and such great value. Sat at the bar and ordered drinks from the super friendly bartender. After the bartender had carded us, she realized that we were from the West Coast and struck up a conversation. Of all the bars we had been to, she was definitely one of the nicest/attentive/genuine bartender. It's a shame that I did not get her name. She made us feel welcome and got our drinks ready in a timely manner (plus they were delicious!). In addition to the great service, she even gave us advice of where to go while we were in town. Every time we are in Boston, this is a must stop! Their Mongolian hot pot is a thing of beauty. My wife likes everything non-spicy and I like it hot. With their divided hot pots, you get the best of both worlds! I normally order the seafood, but this last visit, I opted for the beef and lamb. Excellent choice! Probably won't go back to the seafood any time soon. We also were blown away by their cold, beef tongue and beef tendon. Throw out all preconceived notions and try them both. The tongue is sliced very thin and is very rich and tender. The only downfalls, it is very noisy. You will be hard pressed to carry on a conversation without shouting. Q Restaurant is a great place to go when you know you want Asian food, but aren't exactly sure what type. They have Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Mongolian, and Vietnamese dishes. Point is, they have something to please everybody. The venue is very nice, it's a great place to bring coworkers, friends, or dates. The only downside is that the numerous hot pots can make the place pretty steamy. Being the type of guy that treats his tech like a newborn child, I kind of hesitate to take my phone out when I'm there, lest my baby get any water damage from the steam. Okay... I suppose I'm overreacting. The sushi here tastes great and each piece is a bit bigger than nearby places. I think this is done simply to make the food feel more... premium. Heavy, albeit less, pieces of sushi give you a sense that the sushi you're being served is packed full. The tempura sushis are cooked wonderfully; there is nothing more satisfying than a crunchy tempura based sushi with a soft inside. The hot pot here is also great. I'm not big on hot pot personally, since I've always felt that ordering hot pot is like paying to cook food that I just paid for; being the lazy guy that I am, I'd much rather have someone cook my food for me. My friends usually insist that we order this since they love it, and they do the cooking for me, so everyone's happy. The broths are tasty, but Jews and Muslims be warned, many of the broths are pork based, so make sure to ask about that--unfortunately, they don't show this anywhere near the broth listings or on the menu at all. Their appetizers are also very delicious. I'd highly recommend ordering a seaweed salad with your sushi. My favorites here are the dragon roll sushi, eel cheese avocado, sweet potato tempura, pad thai (tastes so authentic!), crab rangoons, and house fried rice. Give this place a shot, but be prepared to wait a while if you come after work hours; hot pot is a meal that you could almost say is made for socializing, so people often take a while to leave. read more

Our servers name was Johnny and he was the best server I've had in my entire life. He was incredibly friendly and personable and made amazing recommendations. I didn't have to ask him for a thing he was so on top of things. We ordered 4 alcoholic drinks and 6 different dishes and our check came to only 125$. The prices were unbeatable for the quality of food,service, and experience. Johnny got a 50% tip from us because of how great he made our meal. My absolute favorite hot pot place in the the city! I love their black bone chicken broth which is the main (only) reason I keep coming back. I personally think the quality of meat is on par with Shabu Zen but the biggest thing that gives this place an upper hand is their broths! Their broths are amazing the quality of the meat is great, and their sauce does not like all the other places that get their bbq sauce out of that gray tin can you get from the asian super market. its amazing! Another one of my favorites is the Fishballs with roe filling because I don't know any other hot pot place in the area has this on their menu. Literally. All my favorites. Are here. If you don't want just hot pot, they also serve some typical chinese dishes, and sushi. I think both are second to the hot pot but it's nice to have a variety in case someone in your party does not want hot pot. read more

Q is my FAVORITE Chinese restaurant in the Boston Chinatown area because of the high quality of the food and and the authentic Szechuan flavor palate. The Steamed Flounder in Chili Sauce is so much better than the version that is served at The Dumpling Cafe and The Dumpling House AND the decor and the service is so much better at Q as well. The hot pot is more expensive than what you would pay at the Hot Pot Buffet down the street, but you will definitely notice the difference in the higher quality of broth and fresh ingredients. read more
