So I'm from CA where we eat Mexican on a regular basis. Over the last few years it's been hard to find the perfect Mexican in Charlotte, but I think we finally did! I ordered the chimichanga, my family had tacos and birria fries and it was all delish. We took advantage of $2 tacos and $5 margs and we're all leaving full and happy with a to-go box for later. Alex is amazing. She's soooooo kind and sweet and overall, perfect customer service from her first hello to checking us out. It's clean and nicely decorated. I love Que Onda! And frequent their Plaza Midwood location. It took some time but I discovered this location while looking on Yelp for places that offer take-out and was happy to see them pop up in the results. I ordered the grilled chicken (an extra $1) enchiladas with red sauce. It comes with black beans and rice. And you get 3 enchiladas! Flavor wise it's really good. The chicken was seasoned and generously spread throughout both enchiladas. Comes with sauce, cheese & cream. I love the flavor of the red sauce... just wish they provided more. The rice was good but minimal. I love their black beans but this batch was a little more salty than what I've experienced. I know I'll be back since this place has been the closest I can get to California tasting Mexican food. They also have brunch! Get the chilaquiles and thank me later. I had such a great experience here the other day with a friend. Alex was server she was so sweet and amazing. She talked us through menu items and was so genuine she made it a great visit. The heat wasn't working but we stayed bundled up and made the best of it. Between the great service and fantastic food we didn't really care lol. I ordered the taco salad with grilled chicken and OMG, it was such a simple thing but soooooo good. I liked that they already added the cilantro ranch to the salad and mixed it so the meal came ready to eat. The actual taco shell bowl was freakin amazing and flavorful and crunchy!!! We brought our dog to Que Onda and had the best time. The patio was perfect, and our server brought a dog bowl out right away. He was so friendly and accommodating, and made us feel super welcome from the start. The manager also stopped by to chat, and she was so sweet. We had such a great conversation with her and really appreciated how personal and genuine she was. The food was awesome. On Sundays they do half off the dip trio (salsa, guac, queso) for $6 which is such a good deal. We also got the birria rolls and they were incredible. The Birria Tacos were amazing, flavorful, and dripping in delicious consummate. The refried black beans were new, but very much a preference for me now! The rice? This is my go to spot when I'm going to a show at the PNC Music Pavilion! We always love the food. The empanadas are great and the dip trio is a must for a starter. It comes with plentiful portions of queso, guacamole, and a smoky chipotle salsa. The guac is SO fresh and good, that was my favorite. Obviously the margaritas here shine! I got the spicy jalapeño margarita this time and I loved it. I got the combo tacos this time - I got market veggie, shrimp and al pastor. I think the veggie ended up being my favorite but they were all so good! I like the flour/corn blend tortillas. They're loaded down with toppings but the tortillas didn't break and make a huge mess. Really all 3 of these tacos were so good. I love the rice and refried black beans it comes with. Our server was so great as well!! She mentioned that she was still new, but she did such an amazing job and had a great personality. Her name was either Alex or Allie. I would ask for her again, she was really sweet. Not a bad place at all. It's your standard Mexican restaurant. I came for brunch and ordered queso, tropical mimosas, and breakfast tacos. The queso was good and the chips tasted fresh. I found myself just eating the chips because they were perfectly salted and not super oily like I've had at other places. The mimosas were really good! I got more of a pronounced passion fruit flavor, but it was still tasty. The highlight was the machacha and bacon egg and breakfast tacos (forgot to take a pic, paid on a separate ticket). They were super fresh and stuffed to the brim. My favorite was the machcha because the beef, cheese, and onions was AMAZING! The regular menu looks really good, so I'll be encouraged to try lunch/dinner options. I would recommend this spot to others. Highly recommend the short rib dish, last time I had fajitas and all of the sides were amazing, the plantains are always sweet and juicy, I just love it all around. Not impressed. May give it another try though. I was in town for a girl's weekend visiting some friends who live in the area. We were craving Mexican so my friend suggested to go here since she's been before. This location is in a shopping center and parking available, but for on a Friday night it was busy and crowded. The restaurant itself wasn't crowded though. The restaurant isn't large, but it's roomy enough. We were set and greeted quickly. We wanted to order drinks, but our server wasn't able to understand what we were asking for (I wanted a Paloma and my friend wanted a Mexican mule - basically a Moscow Mule with tequila instead of vodka). We ended up just ordering water from our server and then going to the bar to get our drinks. Luckily we were sat right in front of the bar and the restaurant is rather small. The drinks were good. We were wondering about chips and salsa and noticed that they weren't free. My friend said they used to be, but not anymore. Although it's only about $2 I still prefer Mexican restaurants to have free and unlimited chips and salsa. Not a huge thing, but definitely preference for me. I was not a fan of the salsa at all...it had a smoky flavor, but it was far too smoky for my liking. We barely ate any of it. I ordered the Taco Combo with 3 different tacos: Chicken Birria, Crunchy shrimp, and Brussels with chorizo. The portions for the tacos were good. The Crunchy shrimp was my favorite. The Chicken Birria was ok, nothing special. The Brussels with chorizo was a huge disappointment. I thought it was something different and interesting, but wouldn't order this again. The chorizo was good, but the Brussels were mushy and not flavorful. Overall, not great, but maybe an off day. Probably won't return. read more

I have yet to visit the actual location but found them on Door Dash this weekend and it was amazing ! I loved the tacos sooo much I ordered them two days later! I can only imagine going in person the food is even better! Steak taco amazing !!! The fact that they had different meats for the Birria tacos took the cake for me. We went here after work for a business dinner. The foods our group had were all great. Service was prompt and attentive. With that said, this is geared toward bar atmosphere instead of a business group. The music was incredibly loud even though it was before 5 pm. We were having a tough time having conversations. Que Onda is always a vibe. The food and drinks have not disappointed. This is my fifth time visiting here since I came for a Yelp Event last year! Cucu Melon is my favorite drink although it is hard to actually choose a favorite. I like the design of the cup as well. I have been to this location twice now. I come to Charlotte a out twice a year for work, and find myself visiting at least once. The food is pretty good to be so limited. I usually get the combo tacos. I will say that I am not a fan of their salsa, its a little too smoky and spicy for me. The cheese dip and guacamole are pretty good. The main reason I stop? Friday night's $6 large gold margaritas! If you like coconut, add the coconut for $1 more. TOTALLY worth it! I wish all restaurants offered this. I definitely recommend! read more

Que Onda is a fav when it comes to Mexican in the Charlotte area! I will say I'm sad to see that chips and salsa are no longer complimentary, however I do understand the rising costs of food. The salsa tastes completely different. It tastes like a spicy canned tomato paste versus the fresh salsa I had grown to love. Over the years frozen drinks have also been removed from the menu. Went here again to so I could try the Crunchy Shimp tacos w/ pineapple pico served with rice and beans. We also do the queso and add refried beans to it makes it amazing! It's the finishing touch the dip needs. Or just offer a bean dip. Now the tacos were delicious, and refreshing! The pineapple added a nice fresh punch to them. Actually one of the best. We really enjoyed them. Would come here just for them. I do wish they offered more chicken taco choices. But these will work!! Now the 3 star, this is the 2nd time we have went here. And the same thing happened again. Our server vanished. Not just not helping she wasn't in the restaurant where we could see her. After our food was dropped it's like she started doing to go orders and just let us be. Problem was we were out of water and nothing we did could get her to come over. Very disappointed by the experience since my husband and I are frequent patrons at the uptown location. To start, as a party of 5 the hostess seated us at a table for a party of 4, never returned with adequate number of menus or utensils until we asked for them. We requested to combine two table to have enough space. The wait staff hesitated to combine two tables. The manager also interjected to prevent this from happening. He stopped because we and other customers were looking at him. My daughter, who had a view of the manager and staff, observed them having a conversation about us. It's crazy this all transpired considering there were only 5-8 customers in the entire restaurant when we arrived. Now I know why. We only stayed because of the rainy weather. When the check came, a 25% gratuity was added to the bill? There was no policy visible on the website or anywhere. I will never visit this location ever again!! I ordered the Pork Carnitas Burrito Basico, and yes, it was very basico. Its saving grace was the fact that the pork itself was very well cooked and full of flavor. Chips and salsa were not included and they nickel and dime you for every little thing. Aside from the burrito, I ordered the queso and chips. The queso was thick and overly salty. They were also overly priced for a tiny saucer (you can't even call it a bowl because it'll be a disservice to bowls). The burrito was huge though which makes me wonder about their inconsistency in serving sizes. Again, they nickel and dime you to death. My coworker asked for some sour cream and was charged like $2. It makes it worse that their serving sizes are unpredictable. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. I'm sure it's a cool spot to hang out for happy hour or on a Friday night.
