This is definitely my favorite salon. I've been going here for 3+ years. Place is small but the haircut is superb.

I went to get a haircut + color from my hair dresser I have been going to for hair service for many years. She used to charge $35 for haircut and now raised price to $65-$75 for a haircut. I texted her a few days ahead to get an estimate on my hair and she gave me an estimate of $300. I told her to lower it down a bit and she said the cost might go down a bit but not a lot. I went in to get a haircut and she cut my hair, full foil and did cut again. I was unaware of additional services she was adding. I wish she shared the treatments she was giving. Not knowing the cost and expected to pay $300. I asked her to give me the total and she estimated to $493. I was shocked. I couldn't say much since there were many customers there. I was not satisfied with my hair color since I showed her the hair color I wanted and she gave me something totally different. She charged me $155 for full foil, $126 for base color run through, $87 for cellophane toning (she did not mention that she was adding this treatment), Extra Application $60, and cut $65 = $493. Am I over exaggerating? I texted her to fix my hair and she never answered my messages. When you go in, please ask her what additional services she adding/charging for. I was bothered by her dishonesty and I should have pain $300 since I never asked for extra treatments she added to my hair. The hair dresser's name is Young. Beware! read more

OMG I absolutely love this place. It's small, it's cute, the hairstylists are fabu! First off, it's really close to my favorite boba shop (Gossip Tea) and that's a fantastic way to start a haircut I tell ya. The ahjimah (Korean for "lady") who runs the place is very sweet. She totally knows what she is doing and cuts your hair with both precision and "the quickness". I walked in, showed her a picture of what I wanted (even though I'm white and I wanted asian hair) and she modified the cut so that my hair (limp X 2) would work with this style. I got about 10 compliments on my hair the first day. I felt like a sex goddess. She have me good hair. She is...my hero. She cuts my boyfriends hair regularly and we're in and out like the flash. She's super reasonable too ($15 for the ladies and $12 for the dudes-it's in the international district so it's hecka cheap) but we always tip her outrageously so she knows she's appreciated. This place is very disappointing. She cut my hair about 2 inches too short, with one side about half an inch longer than the other. I asked for a cut that was one length, straight across, but it was very uneven and choppy. In addition, the lady who cut my hair didn't seem to care when I pointed out certain issues while she was cutting, and kept saying that it was "too late." There was no skill involved. I've been a regular at barbershops ever since I stopped letting my mom give me those endearing chili-bowl haircuts. Every now and again, I'd hit up generic hair salon and pay $15 + tip for a crappy haircut from a stylist who didn't cut "asian hair" frequently. Kim gets it. She's fast, careful and has a great sense. I can show up now and say, "clean me up!" and she fades up around my ears, shampoo and rinses - and gets back to business, carefully evening out anything she missed on the first go-over. Only come here if you do not care about how your hair looks! It's definitely cheap, but you get what you pay for. I'm an Asian male looking to get an Asian style, so I came here reading the previous Yelp reviews and thinking this Korean woman would be able give me a Korean-esque cut. I ended up getting one of the worst styles in a very long time and had to end up cutting my own hair at home to fix it. Albeit the lady was nice. She only accepts cash, so when I had to run to an ATM she let me come back to the salon on my word alone. So with that, I commend her personality. But that does not make up for the lack of care and skill when it came to cutting my hair. She sat me down and didn't even wash my hair. She cut it for 5 minutes sloppily and without a consultation. And it seemed like she danced to the bea tof her own drum. I will never, ever return - not for a cut, not for a trim, not to even drop off a newspaper. I am astounded at the recent haircut I got from Queen Beauty Salon. Since moving here to Seattle, I have been getting my hair cut regularly at Vain. I walked in the salon on a weekday afternoon without an appointment and asked for the overgrown layers in my long, straight hair to be trimmed. I was initially horrified at the way my hair was being cut; misted with a water bottle, and seemingly way too long and choppy pieces randomly being cut for a "trim"... My hair was blown dry and styled, and all I could think was I had went from sexy Victoria's Secret model hair to a bad 80s style. After I got home and styled my hair how I normally do, I realized this is possible one of the best haircuts I have gotten, EVER. My hair is no longer is razor-cut to death, giving it the stringy Avril Lavigne look when I flatiron it. It has movement and life to it now and even my best friend back in S.F. commented how healthy my hair looks. It frames my face perfectly and I no longer have to fight with it everyday. I love this place. I can't imagine getting a haircut anywhere else! The really nice lady only charges $15 for a haircut. Sure, don't expect a scalp massage, a relaxing spa-like ambiance and an expensive Italian-style espresso... but you can expect high-quality cuts that make you feel like a rockstar when you walk out of the salon 15 minutes later. I've been here 3x now and yes, each time, she has been quick, careful, and attentive. I would love to give this place another star for top-notch customer service if I could. That's right, Nordstrom-like customer service. I came to this salon a couple months ago and told her I just wanted a new style, but wanted to keep the length. It was great and I was happy. A couple weeks later (after it was starting to get warm out), I came back and told her that I wanted to get my hair cut really short because I couldn't stand the heat. All I wanted was a trim to take off the splitends and thin out my hair so I was looking for a hair salon with decent skills and a good price. I came across this hair salon on yelp and thought I could give it a try. I was thoroughtly disappointed by my experience here. The trim part was great but thinning out part was frightening. She literally took those thinning out scissors from Daiso and cut once 2 inches from my scalp and once 6 inches from my scalp. There was no skill involved in this... When I feel my hair on the back of my head, I can feel the super short 2-inch hair while the rest of my hair is almost to my stomach... I paid 17 dollars for this haircut with 2 dollars tip and I would really rather pay a little more to at least have some skill involved. read more

I'm generally not too picky about my hair, but this lady gave me the absolute WORST haircut of my entire LIFE. If only Yelp allowed a 0 star rating. I'm wondering where all these positive reviews are coming from - are they even legitimate? I seriously question whether she's ever been trained as a hairstylist, or just opened this salon on a total whim. Every single stylist I've been to cuts with the tip of their scissors, piece by piece -- she took those scissors to my hair like she was cutting a piece of paper, cutting straight across in a horizontal line when I asked for sectioned layers in the front to frame my face. I couldn't believe it. This resulted in the most choppy, square-shaped front layers you could possibly imagine. When I pointed this out, she attempted to "fix it" with a few extra short snips that did absolutely nothing, and I was so horrified by her complete inaptitude as a stylist that I was too afraid to have her try anything else. The most laughable part of the experience was when, after cutting the layer closest to my chin on the right side of my face, she then moved to the left side, pointed to generally the same area, and asked "here?" I couldn't believe it -- did she not realize the layers on each side of my face should be symmetrical? Was it my own responsibility to line them up for her? Do people ask for layers that don't match on each side? The entire experience lasted less than 10 minutes, which gives you a pretty clear indication of how much she cares about how her clients actually look. That is - not much. By the end I was literally fighting back tears. But being the passive person I am, I paid and left in shock. I went home and spent the next half hour carefully trying to fix what I could. It still looks pretty terrible, but thankfully hair grows back, and I'm not the type of girl to have a vanity meltdown. However, the time, money, and emotional distress you waste on a cut that you could have done yourself while blindfolded can never be returned. read more

Argh! So after reading some of the glowing reviews on Yelp, I thought I'd give this place a try. I have easy to manage, straight Asian hair. I went in and was given a 10 minute wait. I sat down and specifically said, "More layers, take 1 1/2 inches off, more volume, no hair hanging down my face". Chop, chop, chop, chop - now I look like an effing helmet head because there were NO LAYERS, hair too thin, AND she lopped off my fringe without asking what I wanted. She blew my hair and it seemed okay in the shop so I didn't complain (should have threw a hissyfit but I am a ninny like that). Came home, washed my hair, and now I look even MORE like a helmet head. Jesus H. Christ, if I wasn't so angry, I'd sign up for a role in Dumb and Dumber 4. Go here if you're not anal about your hair like I am, otherwise, be prepared to have a very traumatic, obsessive experience. read more

Absolute disappointment! Showed her what i wanted, asked her to give me a bit of layering. She cut my hair in a few minutes and it turned out like nothing i wanted! No layering, my bangs were thin and too long. Then I asked her to thin a bit of hair around my jaw, she just made it shorter! I think i walked out looking like her! Been getting my haircut here for a little under a year - my biggest concern is getting a cut that looks good even after leaving the stores often times it looks ok on leaving the store but looks terrible (too short, needs lots of blow dry and styling) the day after. Not here - they really understand Asian hair - uses layering judiciously to properly shape hair - avoid bulk and build up... and it looks good coming out of the store, the next day and all the way to the next cut, styled or not. Great results for me at least... Reasonable cost and quick efficient good looking haircut! Tip: there is free parking in the parking lot behind the store up the hill along sixth - there are several lots choose the one with the Fuji sushi sign. read more

Very disappointing. Yes, it is not expensive. But you get what you pay for - no hair wash, a haircut is done within 10 minutes. The lady does "cut your hair like cutting a paper". Kim, the owner, works fast, is inexpensive, and, most importantly for me, knows Asian hair. I lived in Shanghai for two years and one of the things I miss most was getting my haircut every three weeks (about $6, plus a 45-minute massage included) from stylists that understood how Asian hair grows different, falls different, cuts different. It's my 2nd time getting a hair cut here and I really love it! I always brought photos of the haircuts that I like, but I don't know if that really matters, she just does her thing and shape your hair to something that is flattering to your face. My hair was really long and thick, she finished my cut in like 15min and it's layered really naturally and shortened to a good length. I really dont know how people gave this place good reviews. I stopped by to give it a shot after work. I have a simple buzz and i expect a good fade. Unfortunately I did not get it here. The way the lady cut my hair, it was like she didnt want to be there and didnt even make an attempt to fade. Haircuts are one of those things where I find it hard to complain to the person about..maybe because i'm too polite. Yes, it is true that Kim doesn't wash ur hair before/after the cut, or give u a head massage, or put fancy products on ur hair; but she knows Asian hair so well, and her craftsmanship is top-notch. I told her what I wanted, showed her a picture online, and as she was eyeing my phone she already started cutting. She cuts really fast and confidently, and during the whole process I made one comment about my bangs, she fixed it, and voila!! It turned out so good that I started regretting the $$$ I spent on my past haircuts. Oh and make sure u bring cash( $20 is enough). I wanted to get all of my hair chopped off, but the only well rated salons around me either cost $50 for a cut or, in Queen's case, $15. Obviously, I opted for the cheaper option and got my pixie cut there. So I went in, showed the nice Korean lady a picture of what I wanted, and she went to work. I don't think I sat in that chair for more than 30 minutes before she was done. Admittedly, after she had blow-dried and styled it, my hair looked pretty much as described in the photo i showed her. After further inspection at home, it was kind of uneven, but what can you expect for a $15 haircut? Overall, I'm pretty happy with the value I got for my money, although I think if you are very particular about your hair, you might want to go elsewhere and pay a little more. read more

Based on reviews I tried Kim's place a few years ago and been a loyal customer since. I'm Caucasion but was wanting to try a modified British shag-Asian Mullet layer cut. I made an illustration in photoshop and showed her what I was trying to go for. Wow- less than 30 minutes later I looked great. Someone here posted she doesn't shampoo or blow dry. Not true at all. I like the humble 70's retro look of the shop. It adds charm to my experience. And the price can't be beat. I think if people bring in pictures of what they want, they have a better chance at getting that look. I always get a good cut no matter the length I want. I needed a haircut and all five Yelp reviews for the Queen Beauty Salon were 5 star. The lady was very nice and I enjoyed my time there. BUT, she made several glaring mistakes, leaving skin showing in several spots and hair way uneven in others. Yes, she is fast, WAY TOO FAST! And why? I was a walk in and her only customer. This haircut looks worse than a prison haircut and now I have to go somewhere else and pay to get it fixed. read more

Tired of going into barbershops, and having to have the style of my hair determined by my knowledge of shaver clip sizes, I was very impressed when I went to Kims' Queen Beauty Salon. While I can only speak from personal experience and therefore, from a male's point of view, I am always comfortable and confident in allowing her to style my hair. I simply state whether I want a trim or a little bit on the shorter side and let her do the rest. She's quick and very careful, always making sure its done correctly and going over it a second time to double check. While incomparable to the fancy hair salons which may provide head massages and a thorough rinse, for $15, I like the efficiency that she provides. This is the way haircuts should be done! On a plus side, her dog Mario adds a pleasant element to the work place! Apparently his favourite snack are carrots! read more

I happen to be Korean and have tried the more popular/expensive Korean salons in Tacoma area; several Vietnamese and Korean places in the Inter'l district; as well as a higher end place a couple months ago. I just wanted a simple, good haircut that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I tried this place on a whim after reading the favorable reviews (above), and was not disappointed. I asked her to replicate the (more expensive) previous haircut, with a couple modifications, and she delivered the results to a tee.
