Our server (if you can even call her that) only came back to refill our water when we asked her to and didn't even fill up everyone's glass! Did we need to tell her to fill up ALL the glasses??? It wasn't even busy. The food SUCKED. I ordered wonton soup - terrible. They tasted old! But I am spoiled by my mom's Chinese cooking....anyways, my friends ordered your other typical dishes, they were mediocre at best. Nothing special. Almost done (thank god). Tallied up our bill, $44...not bad, whatever. Let's just pay and get this over with. Send the credit card. Bill comes back.....$49?!! WTF? The server added $5 to our bill and thought we weren't going to notice?? We immediately bring it to her attention, she just looked at it and went to fix it.....she knew she got caught. No apologies either. We left a $1 tip, can't leave no tip otherwise the dumbass would think we forgot. Oh yah, my boyfriend got sick that night.....looks like they load up on the MSG. The signature dish of Queen's House is their Taiwanese-style Szechuan Beef Noodle Soup, and it gets at least 4 stars for this dish alone. I prefer mine as the combo Beef & Tendon, and get the "fat" noodles rather than the traditional thin ones (which are a bit like udon but not as tasty), or simply replace the set with rice noodles instead. I've tried a number of other dishes here, but other than one or two very Taiwanese items everything else seems... well, average. And, very greasy. For the lack of luster the majority of the menu posesses, I'd call this a 3 star. read more

I'm happy that this business is doing well, but that being said, they should really and I mean REALLY post a sign that limits people's stay after their meal is finished to about 15-20 minutes. I arrived here with a group of 6 and was told we were to be seated shortly after a couple was finished eating as to fuse a couple of tables together to accommodate 6 people. 30 minutes later, the couple was still loitering with little to no food left in their plates/ bowls. After about 40 minutes, the couple began to get up only for the waiter to promptly seat another couple on the small table next to the now leaving couple. He then informed us that we were to wait for the group table as to seat 6 people (also with 6 people again just sitting and loitering). After waiting a little over 40 minutes, we decided to leave. In conclusion, this place really needs to be considerate of future and potential customers to continue to grow. I hope their management improves, but definitely never tried the food and never will because I'm disappointed in their service and definitely will not wait longer that 40 minutes for some food I could go to hundreds of other restaurants for. read more

This is one of my favorite Taiwanese restaurants! A bit far but totally worth the drive. Well, it's not THAT far... maybe 20 mins away. I live for their noodle soups and their simmered noodles. Apparently, simmered food is very popular in Taiwan so getting a taste of Taiwan here is magical. The food is very tasty, big portioned and affordable. I see them hand make their dumplings every time I come here so I know it's "authentic". Every time I come here, this place is pretty packed... it is a very small place that fits maybe about 20 families at most. When I'm feeling super hungry, I would order the 3 dishes for $21 (or $23) or something like that and was never disappointed. I had the basil chicken, general tso (i know! who orders that!?) and one veggie dish. I have had the beef noodle soup, popcorn chicken, soymilk and other things I can't remember but everything I had was suburb and above average. Cons: The service is horrendous. Note that I say "Taiwanese" and not "Chinese" not because I'm trying to distinguish the two entities in some nationalistic rant, but the food choices are quite different. Their Chinese food isn't really that good, in my opinion, but their Taiwanese menu is excellent. Make sure you order ONLY from the first page, and last three pages of the menu. The rest you can get much better at a good Chinese restaurant. Their top dishes: - minced pork over rice (the closest thing to what you can get in the States compared to Taiwan), - Schezuan Beef Tendon Noodle Soup (the spicy style is tastier), - Won Ton over hot sauce appetizer (it's an improvement over the standard Chinese version, and I've never had it the way they make it anywhere else before!) The service is quick, the food is good, and the prices are cheap (though not as cheap as 5 years ago when I first found the place). Then go over to Tea Era for some of the best pearl teas in the business. =) read more

The Chive boxes (Jiao Tsai Heh-tze) are great, as are the chinese donuts (yo tiao) and some of the little clay pots. I often come here on Mondays when Cafe Yulong is closed, but then I just end up thinking I should have eaten something else and waited to eat Chinese food until a day Yulong was open. If you are going to come here, come for their noodles. I haven't really had anything like them before as far as freshness goes. Flavorful, spicy, great noodles, chunks of tender beef, tons of bok choy and chilies; very hearty, but doesn't make me feel grossly full. Food? Nothing special Service? Awful Walking into a Chinese restaurant, I already don't expect any services, but this place has terribly awful services. I came here a month ago on a Saturday night. I saw the sign at the door that they close at 10pm on Saturdays, therefore I walked in at 9:40pm. Once I entered, the waitress did not give us a warm welcome, but a frustrated face. My bf who understands mandarin told me that they were complaining to each other that we are still coming in when they will be closing in 20 minutes. Through out our meal, we feel like we were being rushed out of here. At around 9:50, 2 more customers opened the door and walked in....again, the waitress were complaining....They spent more time looking out at the door, checking out if anymore people are entering the restaurant, than checking on if their customers are doing ok. They never came back to check up on our food once they arrived nor re-fill any water. But again, I never expected this place to have any service, but never expected them to give me that unwelcome face as I walked in. After we were done with our food, thats when they came back to our table. Instead of saying "Can I please take this away?" they said "Done?" What kind of service is this? HELLO! It is a Saturday night. Restaurants on the crowded Castro Street does not close at 10 when they say close at 10...... This is the busy night where you earn your tips! read more
