We arrived at Quick Pack Food Mart right when they opened at 11 AM to try to get some of the freshest fried chicken possible. The wings had just come out of the fryer and we had to wait in the store an additional couple of minutes for the drums. The owner stated that they didn't have any thighs or breast that day, and while we wanted to try the sambusas, they wouldn't be ready for another 10 minutes. We didn't really want to wait for them, so we left with our haul and started digging into the chicken in the car. Fried Chicken 2x Wings + 2x Drums ($8.99) - Freshly fried, hot and steaming. The chicken is lightly breaded, resulting in a thin coating on the exterior that exhibits an almost glass like crisp. The drums, especially, are gigantic, almost like a small turkey leg, and the meat inside is moist, with juices dripping down with every bite. Both drums had a bit too much bone marrow or blood leaching out of the bones, resulting in a less than pleasant taste in some parts of the chicken. The wings did not have this issue and instead remained juicy throughout. (4.5/5) Jojos ($1.79 for 6) - The jojos seem to be hand cut large wedges, then single fried and seasoned with seasoning salt and pepper. They don't exhibit any crisp whatsoever and instead are just exceptionally fluffy and tender throughout. I really wish they battered them with the same stuff used on the fried chicken! I was a bit underwhelmed with these due to how floppy they were. (3/5) The fried chicken served at Quick Pack Food Mart is very good and is probably the cheapest fried chicken you can find in Seattle to boot. Most places would charge at least $12 for two wings and two drums, and serve smaller pieces of chicken. It's super worth it. Note: Quick Pack Food Mart charges a 50 cent card fee.

2 wings + 2 legs with potatoes. Legs were HUGE!!! Juicy and crispy

What a hidden gem to find. Of course thanks for TikTok for the recommendation! Outside has a huge banner that states "home of the best fried chicken" I say it's pretty darn good. After a flight, we were hungry, almost borderline HANGRY.. went straight from SEA to here and I was not disappointed. Super friendly workers and fast service. We didn't want to get full since this is only the first stop of many food stops. And I am glad that we got 2 each cause they're HUGE. The leg is HUGE! Perfect amount to hold me over until the next stop. They had a few seating inside but we just took it to go and couldn't wait and ate it in the car. Definitely check it out. Crispy and juicy. Great service. Welcoming smiles. Ps: 50 cent up charge for using card

So late to the party on this place my friend Ken has been telling about this place for years. Only wings and legs were a available when I got there about 11:30 on a Saturday. Could've waited 15 minutes for them to fry up a thigh and breast but didn't have the time to spare today. Would definitely come back for the chicken! I don't usually like legs but these drumsticks were huge as well as the wings for $8 and change great deal. Perfectly season has a tiny bit of a kick which I loved. Crispy exterior and the chicken was moist inside. Made another stop on the way home even though the delicious smell of the chicken was killing us on the way home threw it into the microwave for about 40 seconds just yo heat it up so it traveled well!

First read about Quick Pack Food Mart from an article featured from the long gone Seattle Weekly: https://www.seattleweekly.com/food/the-most-magical-fried-chicken-in-seattle/ Me and The Homie checked it out back on 11/4/18. We had no idea what to expect, but we walked inside this borderline sketchy spot. Wow, ordered, paid up, and walked out with a sack of fried chicken. We didn't even bother driving it home or eating in the car. At the corner of MLK Way and S Jackson, we started digging in the sack of fragrant, crisp fried chicken in the parking lot. Fried chicken on the car trunk. No frills, no sauce, no secret spices...just damn fine fried chicken. Between the two of us, we've probably consumed an entire chicken farm over the years, lol. We spread the culinary chicken dollars all over the city at various indie spots like Wing Dome, Ba Bar, Mangosteen, Bok a Bok, Heaven Sent, Brothers and Sisters, S/T Hooligans, and Cookie's Country Chicken. Heck even a sale bag from Safeway's deli will do. I revisited Quick Pack Food Mart after stopping by nearby Temple Pastries on 5/9/21 as part of a low key Mother's Day Sunday wandering drive. The same folks were behind the counter. Honestly, I have no idea what else they sell at their business. All I know is that I made a socially distanced beeline to the deli display case at the front counter. This time it was for an order of 7 chicken wings (=14 wings elsewhere) for a little over $16 with an extra charge for using a debit card. Pleasant service and received well wishes for Mother's Day. Meandered from the Central District to University District/Portage Bay and ate two wings at Fritz Hedges Waterway Park. Sitting outside by the water, fresh air, sunny, eating tasty fried chicken. Simple but mighty fine Mother's Day. Two words to remember when stopping by Quick Pack Food Mart, FRIED CHICKEN!

Man. This gem. I hate to give it up but good good deserves to be shared. The chicken is crispy, salty, savory, juicy, so delicious! The wonders are always friendly and they stay ready with chicken always fresh to sell! Quick in and out! The hot sauce: they say it's only Frank's but it's secret ingredient!

Fried chicken, i took four big bites inside the parking lot..

This fried chicken staple of Seattle all of Washington state. Fresh crispy fried chicken. Thighs & drum sticks and chicken wangs yummy What i love most is the lady so nice and she promise her fried chicken is the best. I agree, the fried chicken is so delicious

I was hanging out with a group of friends and one of them mentioned this spot. He was so insistent that we try their food, and naturally, we headed right over. And of course, it was a welcome surprise. The first impression gives off vibes akin to a "mom-and-pop" shop. Inside is small and humble. It wouldn't take long for you to see the golden chicken at the register. The lady at the register was incredibly hospitable. She constantly asked if we were doing well and ensured we got the most out of our visit. The chicken I had was mainly wings and drums. The chicken and a crispy golden exterior. The meat itself was tender and soft but not incredibly moist. The chicken skin carried most of the spices/seasonings. I couldn't quite pinpoint what they were but I remember it being delicious. This spot is located pretty far away from any major attractions in the city. If you can find the time, I definitely recommend giving them a chance. Food: 4/5 This is probably the best-fried chicken I've had in Seattle. Service: 5/5 Loved the cashier. They were so nice and even gave my group of friends extra pieces of chicken! Atmosphere: N/A This spot leans more "to-go" style.

Oooooohhhh man this place is legit!!! I have heard so many good things about this place and am so glad to try it out. It's definitely a hole in the wall and I would probably not even know of this place unless I heard it from people. But once you know, it's hard to miss it as it's a pink building standing on its own with no other business attached. Anyways, I came here hoping to get chicken and that's what I got. They only had wings and 1 leg available at the time so we ended up getting the last piece of leg and 6 pieces of wings along with some JoJo's. We had to eat the wings at home but was able to try the JoJo's on our drive home. It's not the crispiest JoJo's but the flavors are there and for 1.25, you get a generous portion. The wings and legs was still perfectly crispy by the time we got home and it was delicious. I also like that it wasn't super salty and had the right amount of flavoring. These pieces aren't your typical size either, they were humongous! So pricing was also superb. The lady who took our order was also nice, she had this southern hospitality vibe that made us feel very comfortable talking to her and placing our order Overall, not the best chicken I ever had but it's definitely one of the top contenders and definitely will be back

Renowned for their fried chicken! I love hole in the wall places and this places! Basically a quick-e-mart with a deep fat fryer and warming cabinet. They only had wings and legs today which might reflect availability of chicken parts due to the national pandemic. Wings were those gargantuan ones that are borderline too big to be from normal chickens. Crust is decent, paper thin and crunchy. The legs were a little disappointing and not totally as done as i personally like. The side of jojos were suprisingly amazing! They also serve Sambusas but had none that day. I have a feeling might be an off day and i will be back to try again when they have breast and thighs.

Oh man! I'm a fried chicken connoisseur and this fried chicken is divine. My favorite was or maybe still is Ezells but the chicken here is definitely making me second guess which one is better. The meat is juicy and the skin is cooked to perfection. Definitely blows KFC, Popeyes, churches and most chicken places out of the water.

Unfortunately, tonight's experience was extremely disappointing, specifically because of the service we received from Darlene. We tried the shrimp yakisoba in addition to our wings and mozzarella sticks and unfortunately did not like the flavor of the yakisoba. The frustrating part is that Darlene only asked us one time if everything was okay--and she didn't even come to our table. She asked while checking the thermostat, and at that point we had only eaten our wings and some mozzarella sticks. We had not even tried the yakisoba yet. We waited approximately 15 minutes for her to come back and check on us, but she never did. I eventually went to the counter to get a box. Since she never came back to our table, we also went to the counter to pay, which is different from our previous visits where we were checked out at the table. We explained to Darlene that we didn't enjoy the yakisoba because of the flavor. Instead of simply acknowledging the feedback, she responded rudely that we needed to tell her when she checked on us so it could have been fixed. That was frustrating because she never checked on us after we actually tried the food. How were we supposed to tell her we didn't like something when we hadn't even tried it yet? Then, when I went to tap my phone to pay, Darlene said, "But you're not paying for it, so it doesn't matter." I told her she was being rude, and rather than de-escalating the situation, she began arguing with me and made it seem like we were somehow at fault for not saying anything during the first time she asked. We asked to speak with a manager, and Darlene told us that she was the manager. We weren't upset simply because we didn't like a dish. We understand that not every menu item is going to be everyone's taste. What we expected was basic customer service and an opportunity to actually communicate our concerns. Instead, we were blamed for not reporting an issue that we literally hadn't discovered yet, followed by a rude response when we attempted to explain it. The wings are still excellent, and we've had good experiences here before, which is why tonight was particularly disappointing. Unfortunately, Darlene's handling of the situation left a much worse impression than the food itself.

It's been on my list of places to try in Seattle…read more I was really looking forward to supporting a community that is part of the LGBTQIA+ they are also a family business well-known in the community and of color. The restaurant is very clean, was greeted by two servers working, friendly atmosphere, noise level was average and it's a smaller establishment, please keep that in mind. We ordered the french fries which are shoestring fries, side of catfish, a side of red beans and rice, and a side plate of fried green tomatoes, which comes with four bite-size pieces. Being from the south born and raised, I'm a particular about my catfish and even though the breading had flavor, the catfish to me did not taste very clean plus there was a hair stuck to the breading of the catfish. It wasn't a small hair. The mystery hair either fell in the oil or it was in the batter is my guess. Because when I went to break the catfish apart, that is when it sprung the rest of it out, there was a small curl tip sticking out of the top of the fish. Unfortunately, the green tomatoes had absolutely no flavor. I will say the red beans and rice had the most flavor. I could taste the seasoning and the spice with a little bit of heat. I also really appreciate that there was some veggies mixed in with some meat as well. The shoestring fries it's either a hit for some or a miss and for me it was a miss, but I've had lots of different kinds of shoestring fries from multiple locations, and different states. It's a hard one to make. They were fried crispy and excellent. I would say it's more of the seasoning that was a dislike. The decor throughout the restaurant was beautiful to view. There are photos of the owners their family and friends. Not only could I see the love and commitment put into this restaurant, but also I could feel it as soon as I walked in. My takeaway is for the cooks to wear hairnets and if they have beards, to also put nets on their beards to further prevent hairs falling into people's food. Fried green tomatoes are not an item that can be found at most restaurants. It's easy to make but definitely the seasoning on it could be improved. Also, possibly just going simple with the seasoning like salt and a little pepper on the shoestring fries, sometimes keeping it simple is the best. A topic I want to touch on, not because I got it, but because going through the reviews prior to coming not too many people were discussing the waffles and this was a direct witness of what I could see. I did not taste it so I can't describe how the waffles tasted, but they look like they were cooked golden brown, which was nice but they are I would say more on the thinner side than what I usually see at places that serve chicken and waffles. If you are reading this review and you are looking for a place that serves you a nice thick waffle please do not come here because you will be disappointed, and I do not want people being disappointed when they are looking for something in particular and they end up ordering something that they did not want. Besides my recommendations, as I mentioned, this is a place that is full of love and commitment and I appreciate the community that has supported this establishment. It is not easy keeping a restaurant open and it's even harder these days being a person of color to even have your own establishment. As always, my friends be safe out there. Thank you for reading this review and I'll see you at my next bite *=*

The smell of rotting trash isn't the most amenable to good eats. Luckily, there's a boba shop across the street to get drinks at and sit down to eat. When we walked up for a late lunch at 2PM, we were warned that they were working on a huge catering order and the food might take 15-20 minutes to come out. We decided to stick with it anyways, and hope for the best - it turns out they that overestimated the time, so we were out in under 10 minutes. Sesame Soy Garlic ($11) - Starting with the star chicken - woah, totally different from most fried chicken. The batter, made from a mixture of vodka, rice flour, and cornstarch (per DDD), has a really hard crunch, much harder than expected. It's the firmest crunchy fried chicken I've ever had, bar none. Not enough to shatter teeth, but getting close. They use chicken thigh but they seem to trim the skin off, then fry it very hard, rendering it kind of dry rather than fatty and moist. There's a thin layer of chicken right under the dredge that's dried out and very tough. The interior chicken shreds into layers that aren't easy to chew through due to how dry they are. The sandwich includes crispy onions, but they get lost due to how crunchy the chicken is. The menu lists kale and lemon aioli, which I don't think this sandwich included. Instead, they use mixed salad greens and they slather it with two different sauces - one that's kind of peppery, creamy but runny, and another that's more savory, salty and sweet. The flavors all meld together well, but I think the chicken needs a bit of work. (4/5) Garlic Lovers ($11) - Woah, this sandwich is an explosion of garlic. It's like eating pure creamy roasted garlic, such overpowering but very pleasant garlic flavor. That's honestly all I can taste in this sandwich, paired with the same piece of fried thigh and buttery bun as the other sandwich. Very tasty with all the same drawbacks. (4/5) Biscuit with Spiced Honey ($3.75) - This biscuit is very dense, dry, and not flaky even though it's clearly a layered biscuit. It's not salted and not buttery in any way, instead tasting mostly like the base grain and rather alkaline. It's difficult to eat by itself due to how dry it is. Luckily it's served with spiced honey. The honey is sweet and is mixed with plenty of warming spices, almost tasting like a holiday mulling mix. (2/5) My feelings on Bok a Bok are mixed. While the fried chicken exterior is extremely crisp, the tradeoff seems to be a tough, dry, and stringy interior. The flavors are good, but the texture is not. There are a lot of fried chicken sandwich places on Capitol Hill and while this one has a unique concept, I'm not sure I would visit again.

In the heart of Seattle's historic Black Americans Central District sits Simply Soulful, a black-…read moreand woman- owned restaurant. I tell my non-Asian friends that they should leave an Asian restaurant if you don't see any Asians inside. I am happy to say we were the odd ducks in this place! Love me some legit soul food. The menu is straightforward. We ordered at the counter. The food is brought to our table. The food took quite a while with big crowds coming in after us. I suspect they cook in batches as multiple groups received food at the same time. It was mostly self-service (utensils, water) until the restaurant quieted down, then we saw servers cleaning tables, etc. The Food: Combo Dinner with two sides, $26 - 5 Stars The combo plat offers two meat choices. I chose the wings and catfish. The wings are sizable and plump. Highly recommend. The catfish was a thinner cut and a bit dryer. I liked the very thin breading on the catfish, not greasy, and it tasted good with Tabasco. For sides, both the collard greens and fried okra are excellent. In fact, I say the okra is perfection! The little corn bread is just right for me. I thought the corn bread has good flavor while hubby said it was too dry. Catfish Dinner with two sides, $24 - 3.5 Stars Hubby complained the catfish was too thin. He's not a Tabasco person, so that doesn't help. I gave him two wings to calm him down. Lol. He loved the hush puppies the best. They are huge with a wonderful crisp. I agree with him! He thought the yams are too sweet; they do look sweet in the liquids but isn't that want yams are intended to be? I think he just needs to order differently in the future. Note they have a 3.5% service charge for credit card purchases. See line on the menu photo.

Communion was, without a doubt, the best restaurant we visited during our Seattle trip. Located in…read morethe Central District, the food beautifully reflects the culture and creativity of the neighborhood. I was so excited to see Lao sausage on the menu, I knew we had to get that. The clams and mussels with Lao sausage were hands down my favorite dish - so savory, unique, and packed with flavor. I know it would be something my mom would have loved to try! The collard greens with neck bone meat were another standout. Every bite was unforgettable. The wait here is no joke, so I highly recommend making a reservation. I think we waited an hour and half to get seats for two, but worth it! We were fortunate enough to be seated after closing, and despite the long wait, the staff remained incredibly kind, welcoming, and accommodating. Their hospitality made the experience even more special. So shoutout to the staff! The only dish that didn't wow me was the trout - it was a little mild and could've used a squeeze of lemon to brighten the flavors. But honestly, everything else was some of the best food I've had in a long time! And I am a real foodie. If you appreciate cultural fusion, Communion is an absolute must visit in Seattle!

There were people waiting outside when we got there and only a few tables were seated. They seemed to space out the seatings to give the kitchen time to prepare food for the tables. We had high hopes as we love Southern food. We ordered the Sweet Potatoes Hoe Cakes, Mac N' Cheese, Classic Greens, UNC's Wings, Pork Chops, and the Grilled Berbere Steak. The Hoe Cakes were the best 4/5 but tasted like buttery cornbread, good, but nothing special. The Mac N' Cheese was 3.5/5 and were tasty and very cheesy. The classic greens were tasty but came in a small ramekin 3/5. The UNC's wings were okay, tasty and crunchy, but we've had better wings at dozens of restaurants 3/5. The pork chops were decent but dry 2.5/5. The steak was a bit fatty, gristly and bland 2.5/5. A three rating being average. Service was attentive but nobody bothered asking how the food was or we would have openly told them. For the price, there are much better options elsewhere. Don't waste your time, money or stomach on Communion.
