I love a hotel bar and Quill is no exception, but it is exceptional. Rather than splaying out in the hotel lobby, Quill is tucked away on the side in the elegant Jefferson Hotel. The location and the warm decor give it a cozy and clubby feeling - in a good way. Andrew and the other staff took great care of us. The drinks are creative and delicious (and commensurate with hotel bar prices). It's a lovely experience in the heart of DC!

Was in the neighborhood on business and needed a snack and refreshments after a hard day's work. Quill hit the spot. Great service, great oysters, great arancini, and super draft beer. Highly recommended!

This experience was everything!! A local influencer I follow (@onthemovewithmad) posted about this place and I knew I had to take my bestie here for the adorable grilled cheese and tomato soup. Three weeks ago we did a little staycation & foodie tour of our own in Logan Circle and ventured over to Quill in the frigid weather, which made our experience all the more perfect. First - The Jefferson hotel that houses this little lounge called Quill is simply gorgeous. I'm going to need to come back here and explore. Anyway, I'm going to call Quill a lounge, it was tucked away in a quant little part of the hotel with a full bar and luxury seating. And the music they were playing (think 50s nightclub with mellow blues & jazz) perfectly complimented the setting. We were luckily and I think the cold kept people away, so there was only another bestie couple at the bar. The bartender was our server and was very attentive. The drinks were pretty pricey, so we focused on the foot this go around. Apparently the Roasted Tomato Soup & Gruyère Grilled Cheese is an appetizer, but we each ordered our own. And man were we glad we did. It was served hot & fresh with the cutest presentation. The flavors were spectacular! The soup was steamy and the cheese oozed out of the perfectly buttery toast. Portion size was perfect for modest lunch, but it would be hard to she this with anyone cause it's just so good! Then we had the Baby Gem Salad and the kitchen split it for us, perfect presentation on two plates. Salad was fresh and fantastic. But wait - there's more! I can't remember the name of the desert for the life of me, but it was a perfect ending. These fried dough balls & dip were decadent! Positive we'll be back.

After finishing up a day of sightseeing, my wife and I decided to revisit the quill. It's must been a dozen years since we've been here. I am very happy to see that they have not changed for the sake of change! It was the perfect place a 12 years ago and still was today! Our bartender made immaculate and picturesque cocktails! At one point she even mixed two different cocktails at once! We enjoyed their complementary nosh of mixed nuts and olives! As a bit of a dessert, we decided on their carrot cake cupcakes. Would've loved to stay there for about two or three more; however, we did have to drive back. Certainly off the beaten path unless you're staying at the Jefferson. Well worth the time to find though! Enjoy!

The service was exceptional with the best bartenders (Jose) and staff. They make every customer feel like a VIP. Perfect place to have a romantic evening or business meeting. The food was amazing! Highly recommend the crab cakes, salmon tarte and oysters. Toast with a glass of authentic cava cheers ! Super unique and professional

You only get to celebrate 10 amazing years of marriage once. Traditionally it is the Tin year. Forget that - we wanted to celebrate in style. We decided to go to the Jefferson hotel for our celebration. We originally had the hotel on our short list for our wedding reception but went with another venue a decade ago. With all that as background our first stop was the Quill bar and lounge. A great place to start with a nice cocktail. My wife had "Take a chance on me" and I had "La Boheme". Afterwards we shared "De-Peche-mode" The service was fantastic and they gave us some nuts and olives to share. Sitting outside on a beautiful evening got our celebration going in the right direction. If you want to have some amazing cocktails, you have to try the Quill.

Lovely atmosphere for drinks with coworkers friends and loved ones. The drinks are fantastic. I had the excuse me, sir, which has Beyoncé's whiskey in it Sir Davis. And it was absolutely delicious. I also had the Arancini balls the tuna tart and they were both exceptional.

This hidden speakeasy is one of my favorites in DC. Located inside the The Hamilton Hotel it's just what you didn't know you needed. The cool thing about this place is the small private rooms. Nicely tucked off you and others can privately meet. The menu is small but mighty. I highly recommend the herb your enthusiasm and oysters. But really you cannot go wrong with anything. Also, the bartenders are great -- so feel free to ask them to mix you up something off menu.

Fast forward seven years from my last review and a friend and I grabbed a drink at Quill after nearby Allegory was full. Quill had a free corner table and had a quiet atmosphere. Service was impeccable and my cranberry vodka cocktail was perfect. My friend ordered a saffron-infused martini and was told it comes with "saffron prices." Little did he know it would be $128. The olives and nuts are still complimentary and the burrata is worth ordering.

Burger - Forgot the name of it.

Definitely a great bar to grab awesome food and libations. The service was spectacular. The bar tenders know their stuff. I can't remember the name of the burger I had, but it was huge, filling and tasty. #DukeOfEats

The sommelier's guidance made the experience even better; every recommendation paired perfectly with our meal. And the food? Superb. Outstanding. We ended up trying almost everything because we simply couldn't decide -- and not a single dish disappointed. Each plate felt intentional, refined, and deeply flavorful. Also had the octopus pepper gilda thing. Our server, think his name was Hunter, said that was the most popular main. It was very delicious, rich but not overly so. The martini was nice and came with a side car. Great presentation. When my friend saw the martini she said this makes me feel like i know how to live. They have a good wine list, you can get good stuff without breaking the bank. Their espresso is nice. I don't think they have decaf though.

Warm wood, soft lighting, an atmosphere that feels intimate without being cramped, the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and stay a while. The team went above and beyond when they learned I don't drink: they gifted us a non-alcoholic wine, a complimentary appetizer, and dessert. That kind of hospitality isn't scripted... it's felt. Now, the food. The housemade sourdough with eucalyptus honey butter is dangerous, I could have stopped there and been happy. The roasted carrot salad with hazelnut dukkah and garlic toum was one of those dishes that makes you rethink a vegetable entirely. The garlic knots had no business being that good... crispy, layered, almost croissant-like, deeply garlicky in the best way. For pasta we had the pappardelle with spicy roasted pork ragù and fennel breadcrumbs, and the canastra cheese ravioli with wild garlic pesto and brazil nut pangrattato, that stunning deep green dish topped with chive blossoms looked like art and tasted even better. Both pastas were perfect. Then the Brazilian budino with coconut caramel and toasted coconut came out with a little candle tucked in. I nearly cried. This is a restaurant that treats every table like it matters. We will absolutely be back.

Barcelona was okay but has room for improvement…read more I checked out the menu and other Yelp reviews before visiting. Many of the reviews mentioned the loud music, tightly packed tables, and lukewarm food, which is exactly what I experienced. I don't want to feel like I'm in a club, watch servers barely squeak by my table, or eat room temp food. We visited on Sunday night for a 6 PM reservation. The place was busy but not full, and got a little busier by the time we left around 7:15 PM. There was a small line at the host stand, but people were quickly seated. The host initially took us to a two-top next to a four-top that had a baby in a high chair and some kids books/toys nudging into our table space. We politely asked for a different table, which the host accommodated, but we shouldn't have to ask; they should give guests more space proactively. Our waiter was not particularly friendly or helpful. He asked us about allergies, but did not offer to explain the menu, make recommendations, or anything else. I overheard the waiter at the table next to us telling his table all about the menu and warning them to order any large dishes early, because they can take up to 45 minutes to prepare. We got no such advice; thankfully, we didn't plan to get any large dishes. I do appreciate that the food pacing was pretty good, all the dishes came out quickly and were cleared quickly, and our waiter offered us another piece of bread later (for a dish that only came with one piece and should have come with two...). We got a pitcher of red sangria ($38) which was 4 glasses worth. The sangria tasted fine but was very generic; nothing special, not much fruit, lots of ice. The server who poured it for us did it in a very noisy, distracting way -- shaking it a lot to get the ice to settle, struggling to balance the amount of ice in each glass, spilling some ice on the floor. It was unpleasant and almost comical. We tried eight different tapas dishes: Eggplant Caponata ($7.5), Rainbow Carrots ($8.5), Whipped Sheep's Cheese ($8.5), Cauliflower ($9.5), Grilled Chicken Thigh ($10.5), Bacon-Wrapped Dates ($8.5), Jamon and Manchego Croquetas ($7.5, four pieces), and Lamb Merguez ($10.5). Everything was pretty good. The best dishes were the Sheep's Cheese and Chicken Thigh. The cheese was a nice portion and worked well with the honey. It only came with one piece of bread and should have come with two. Also, although the bread had grill marks on it, it was not warm at all, barely room temperature. The chicken was excellent all around -- tender, salty, spicy, with a very nice green sauce. All the other dishes were ok but had room to improve. The croquetas -- which I love in any form -- had a nice, crunchy exterior and a soft interior that reminded me of mashed potatoes. I wouldn't say they tasted particularly like jamon and manchego, though. The bacon-wrapped dates -- also a favorite dish -- were fine if a bit sweet; the blue cheese on the plate cut this a bit, but I wanted more flavor from the bacon, which was lost against the sweetness of the date. The carrots looked pretty but had different levels of doneness -- some softer or harder than others -- and I wanted more flavor from the sauce. The lamb merguez came with fava hummus and both tasted bland. The eggplant did not have a uniform heat level -- some pieces hot, some room temp -- and I disliked the sauce, which reminded me of sweet BBQ sauce in a negative way. The cauliflower was underwhelming; the sauce needed to be punchier and the dish needed another ingredient, like a few crunchy nuts. I would like to see the restaurant turn down the music, give diners more space, and tweak many of the dishes. It was an okay meal but I wouldn't return.

I was very excited about the French-Canadian, always-changing menu. Physical Exam: Taste - The Prime Rib Sando was a preemo sandwich of balanced cheese and meat between two slices of toasty sourdough. The Cheeseburger Americain was a standard 3.5 out of 5 American cheeseburger that beats the average suburban chain restaurant burger with its double patty and sesame bun, but isn't gonna knock your socks off like a steakhouse burger. The poutine kept my socks on too (I was particularly excited about the poutine and ended up a tad underwhelmed). The biggest disappointment was the mozzarella sticks, which...... I'll just get to in the service part. Cocktails were mid. All interesting concepts, but most missed the mark. the Polar Express was a little too sweet, I forgot what the name of the riff on an old fashioned or Manhattan I had but that was okay, and the Fleur de Citron tasted like when you ask for a Sprite and they ask, "Is Sierra Mist (now Starry) okay?" and you reply, "yeah that's fine," but then what you get is actually a flat 7-Up. Ambiance - This place runs on vibes like America runs on Dunkin'. Live DJ, neon lights, feels like a place you wanna eat a little, dance a little, drink a little. Fun place. Tanked by the service. Skip to the Assessment/Plan if you don't want to read this novella retelling of our evening. Service - Relatively early for the dinner service, we were the largest and one of only a few tables in the restaurant. I counted 3 other tables seated (small parties of less than 4 each) and a few patrons at the bar. It took about 20 minutes before we first got our menus and the guy who handed them to us didn't say a word just dropped them off. Then it took another 20 minutes before he came back to get our drink orders, and 1) seemed like he was having a bad day, which... fine, but 2) was rolling his eyes when some of us were a little between some options and wanted a recommendation, which... alright my guy let's chill. We weren't talking loud, we weren't drinking before and being obnoxious, we just wanted to ask about what some of the drinks were like on a very cool menu of cocktails we haven't tried anywhere else. Upon returning with our drinks, he accidentally spilled a not insignificant amount on my friend sitting across from me, and while we reacted and started handing him extra napkins, he just glanced at him, finished giving out the drinks, and walked away. No "oops", "my bad", "oh let me get you some paper towels", nothing. So at this point, we're all staring at each other like "Did we do something? Do we smell?" Whatever, friend's birthday, we've been talking about this cabin weekend for several years and it's finally happening, let's just vibe. Now another 20 minutes went by and we were getting antsy because we wanted to order our food but it looked like there wasn't a lot of staff, and we didn't want to upset anyone by hurrying them. Another man came over who we thought was going to take our orders. Nope. He starts picking up our menus so I say, "Oh, hey we haven't ordered yet." To which he replies, "OK, but I need the menus." Alright cool, yeah, that makes sense if he needed them for other tables and can leave us with a few to share. Nope. He just took them and placed them back at the host stand. Awkward stares across the table again. Whatever, we had enough, I guess. Tick tock, tick tock. A third guy came over, and when he smiled and asked, "Hi are you all ready to order?" I was like "Oh finally a human being!" Food took another 20-ish minutes while we nursed our drinks and really had no interest in ordering another round (not that anyone asked us). We ate. We chatted. We had an okay time. We were super ready to get out of there. Oh right, the mozz sticks. Le Mont'zarella sticks. They had one order left of four sticks for $18. We were one of the first diners. You can imagine after all the above, that's just a major facepalm emoji. Assessment/Plan: Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for Le Mont Royal to improve their service, now and at the hour of ASAP, because the place has so much potential, and maybe it was just an off night, or the staff just finished arguing with each other in the back so they took it out on us, but dearly beloved Lord it was like we offended nine generations of their ancestry from the moment we walked in. With "a 22% service charge has been added for your convenience," I thought we were getting Punk'd. The always-changing French-Canadian menu is a cool and unique concept, but it's a lot of bark with very little bite. It didn't make the disappointing service worth it. I was already impressed by the weekend happy hour deals. I started with the Aromatic whites wine flight (great pours for $12!!). All 3 wines were delicious and the bartender, Fabio was the best and very engaging throughout my time at the bar. I had the beef tartare and it was the best I've ever had! I then ordered a glass of the Domain du Somail Red Blend paired with the steak frites, which was the best pairing. I was stuffed but decided to get the crème brulee, which you could never go wrong with. It was the best CB I've had in a while. I will definitely be back for restaurant week or just an impromptu happy hour.

We came here with a few friends for an early dinner, making reservations in advance. Once seated, we decided to order some starters to share: +the Warm Pistachio Crusted Goat Cheese Ball - with honey and red wine caramelized onions +Chicken Liver Mousse - with white wine gelee, apricot, pickled veggies, and an onion marmalade +Baked Camembert de Normandie - with confit garlic, thyme, and honey +and, an Onion Soup for the hubs - prepared with beef broth, croutons, and Gruyere For our entrees, I went for the Steak-Frites, which came with a hanger steak and shallot sauce; you can sub the usual fries with truffle fries, which I recommend! My counterparts enjoyed their Long Island Duck Breakfast (with seared asparagus, cumin carrot puree, cippolini onions, and port sauce), the Maryland Rockfish (with artichoke barigoule, carrots, brasied fennel, and noilly prat sauce), and the Local Roasted Chicken (with English peas, carrots, baby potatoes, and truffle jus). If you want to sop up your sauce with bread, don't forget to order the breadbasket! Staff were friendly and checked-in on our party throughout our dining experience; the place is cozy and vibrant, and seems to be pretty popular. I'd be curious to try their HH on the next visit! +French bistro eats +shareables +friendly staff & service
