    Halibut appetizer
    Alison B.

Totally fabulous dining experience. We went for a team lunch and did their fixed menu. Every single item was AMAZING. The halibut appetizer was flaky and beautiful. The mango curry was one of the best curries I've ever tasted in my life. Each dish was beautifully presented and carefully prepared to deliver each flavor perfectly. The staff was so accommodating and their attention to detail for our gluten free diner was impeccable.

Wow oh wow What a great experience I've been a couple of times with great success Had a party in their private room downstairs for 20 people and it was purely amazing Food Service Ambiance Value All were 5+ stars Can't go wrong with

I wanted Indian cuisine and my 79 year old mother had never had Indian food, ever! We absolutely loved everything we had. I'm afraid Quilon has set the bar very high for her next Indian food. Haha. Amazing service, amazing food, great location and atmosphere. Everything we ate was simply incredible. I especially loved the Fisherman's Catch starter and the Chi Tea. The Chicken Pepper Masala, Lemon Rice, and paratha were so very good. If I didn't live in the USA I'd come here often. If in London, eat here! It's absolutely worth it.

Great tastes, incredible service. Highly recommend the vegetarian dishes. I'll be back

Wow!!!! Quilon is a different take on Indian food than I've ever had before. I came here by myself on a recent trip to London! The food and service were extraordinary. I was able to make a reservation the same day and was seated immediately. I couldn't decide on what to get, so I ordered a seafood tasting and was assured it wouldn't be too much for just one person, as they would be just bite sized. We'll there wasn't a thing I didn't like. Everything I tasted was unique and delicious. My only complaint is that the tasting menu didn't help my decide what to get for future visits.

This is a very fancy restaurant located in the Taj near Buckingham Palace. It serves coastal Indian food but has vegetarian options. The presentation was amazing and the taste was decent - not as mind blowing as other Taj restaurants. The food is on the pricier side. I could easily get a table for dinner on a weekday. The portion sizes are smaller than what I expected - even when I toned down my expectation beforehand.

This place was recommended by the hotel staff and there's not really any dress code. Very easy to get a table on a Saturday night.

The first dinner for our London vacation was at 1-Michelin Quilon, which happens to be right next to our hotel! The cuisine here is SW Indian, meaning it specializes in seafood with liberal uses of spices and marinades like coconut to add serious flavor boost. Overall wonderful food - 4.5 stars but rounding up to 5 stars when you factor in attentive service and extras thrown in. I'm trying to cut down a bit on shellfish so we decided to go ala carte rather than their seafood or traditional tasting menus. Total cost for two including VAT (no tips, since they don't take them) was about 130£, not bad! Dinner Highlights: * The free mini-pappadum were light, crispy and come with five different condiments. We found the chutneys far too spicy and instead stuck with the coconut and tomato dipping sauces. * Highly recommend the mini Dosa - a thin, cone-shaped crispy crepe with curried potatoes you can add, along with a nice tomatoey broth. An order comes with two cones. * Pistachio chicken is also a must-get appetizer. Incredibly soft and juicy breast meat with a thin, crispy crust of pistachios and herbs. An order comes with four bite-sized pieces. * For main dishes, the baked black cod is the winner. It reminds me of Asian-style miso black cod, but here they use coconut to keep the fish moist. Very soft and buttery fish, almost like a perfectly-cooked seabass texture-wise. * Fish curry was okay - great broth though the fish was slightly overcooked. Definitely enjoy over steamed basmati rice. * Fried okra was oily but was a pleasant surprise, as okra was sliced thin and yet retained its intense flavor and gumminess after being fried. * Dessert was the pistachio cake and ice cream, light and not excessively sweet. A nice extra for the meal included an awesome Rasam, which is a hot, spicy and tomatoey palate cleanser similar to a Bloody Mary. Also at the end of the meal, they gave more dessert with an assortment of white and dark chocolate thins - each with some herbs to add a gentle, spicy kick.

Excellent Indian restaurant. We let the waiter choose. Drinks are pricy, but food more then makes up for it!

It's very spacious inside. Although their black bean dish Black House Daal is popular, I don't think it's something I'd reorder because I don't like beans that much in general. As a chicken tikka masala fan, I enjoyed their butter chicken the most. It's the closest thing they have to chicken tikka masala--which they don't have, they only have chicken tikka which is dry and quite spicy, has no creamy sauce. I also liked the okra fried, which is a type of fry I'm not used to seeing! It's got flavor, and I also loved the chutney and sauces on the table! I enjoyed a Dishoom Margarita which was strong in alcohol content and flavor, and a nice addition to the meal. They have an interesting drink menu, where you will find lots of nonalcoholic and rather healthy options! They have a small shelf in the middle of the room where they sell some of their chai and cookbooks amongst other things.

In my opinion, there are 2 main things to know about Dishoom: it's an Indian restaurant that is a chain, with 11 locations worldwide. The food is really good for a chain, bit it doesn't begin to come close to a restaurant that takes care of of its individual customers. Walking in, there's lots of energy. People are having a good time, there's no question. We were seated upstairs where there must have been around 40 tables. All of the staff are walking around in a hurry, cause everything here is in a hurry. The intention is to get you our in less than an hour. They want you in, through, and out. I saw this with multiple tables. Our server Yanko came to our table quite promptly and helped us make selections, both for food and drinks. For the first time in my experience eating in a restaurant, the appetizers arrived minutes before our cocktails. They came so fast that we didn't even think it was our order. And then moments after the drinks arrived, all of the main dishes and sides were placed on the table. With no way to keep anything warm. All of this with 10 minutes of placing the order. I appreciate prompt service, but this takes it to an absurd extreme. Our appetizers included the house Chaat and prawn koliwada. I enjoyed the prawns more but the flavors were facile, not close to what I expect and have enjoyed in excellent Indian restaurants. The main dishes were the Goan monkfish curry and Sali Goan. These were also just OK, absolutely nothing special. The cheese naan was soggy, though the flavor was good. This was an unacceptable texture for a naan. Dessert was Basmati Kheer, flavorful Basmati rice with fruit compote on top. In between and unneeded, was a thin layer of creme brulee. I did enjoy my tea: ginger, lemon and honey and my wife liked her mint tea. I do not know the restaurant scene in Edinburgh, we've been here for 4 days. But this is just not a place I'deven consider returning to. It's really a factory that feeds folks, not a restaurant that cares for its customers. The business model had been optimized to maximize income with lots of throughput. What's been almost completely lost in my opinion, is the heart and soul of the dining experience.

This restaurant was recommended to me by someone who comes here whenever they're in London and it did not disappoint. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and the restaurant is very busy/popular. I decided to have lunch on my own and there was about a 15 minute wait. All of the staff I interacted with were very kind, and the inside of the restaurant is dimly lit so it sets a cool and intimate vibe. It's a very vibrant atmosphere. The menu had so many delicious options to choose from. I went with the vegetable samosas to start and a fresh nimbu soda which was very refreshing. For my main dish I had the chicken ruby and a said of garlic naan. Everything was so incredibly fresh. The food was served as soon as it was done being prepared and the flavors were immaculate!!!! 10 out of 10! No notes! And I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking. We managed to snag a reservation here before coming to London on a Saturday around 6:30 PM. We got there right on time and and our table was ready immediately. We had great booth in the back of the restaurant so it wasn't too loud. We all ordered some drinks when we sat down and opted for a Kingfisher to drink. For appetizers, we got some samosas and chili chicken which were delicious! They also gave us some of these rice crackers with different sauces which were delicious. For our entrees, we got some biryani, ruby chicken and rice, malai chicken, the gunpowder potatoes and 3 orders of naan! It was all delicious! The biryani with the yogurt sauce is my personal favorite but their garlic naan is great too. For dessert, we got the chocolate cake and I opted for the chai to end the meal which was delicious! This meal was stunning and you must stop by Dishoom while in London.

A friend of the chef organized this dinner for us, and like many other fancy Indian restaurants, they do have a rather silly children policy, but thanks to our host, an exception was made for us. Their rooftop seating is really inviting, but we could not seat there because the restaurant wasn't as busy on a Sunday evening. Aarav, our server made food recommendations which included a brilliantly tasty serving of Crab ~ Pepper Fry (£14), Lamb ~ Black Cumin (£24), Jheenga ~ Moilee (£26), and a Bread ~ Basket (£12). Our little one enjoyed the Double Tadka ~ Dal (£8) with some Steamed ~ Rice (£5). The Crab and Jheenga were absolutely spectacular.
