Considering that it is supposed to be a Michelin Star, it was a rather disappointing evening. I have had better No great Indian food here in the States and in Canada. The flavors were lacking in both dishes that we ordered, Quilon Fish Curry and the Lamb Biryani. The lamb was dry whereas in a real biryani the lamb should simply melt in your mouth. The fish curry had the most bland flavors ever. And honestly I can make a way better Malabar paratha. The service was nothing spectacular either. We have covered many different Michelin star restaurants here in NYC where the service was impeccable. This restaurant does not even come close to any one of them. This is one of the best restaurants outside india. As a native Keralite I can say this is almost as amazing as the food in Kerala. There are very few restaurants that are this good anywhere in the world. read more

I've already been to the Cinnamon Club and given it a 5 star rating, so I wasn't expecting Quilion to be as good, but it was (almost). I had a set lunch menu where the chef chooses the dishes for you. It was kind of an Indian tapas, with a range of small dishes, all delicious. the starter of masala dosa was gorgeous, very fresh. The main was a smörgåsbord of flavours - chicken curry, chapati, a lovely cauliflower dish, green beans that appeared to be deep fried. I was stuffed by the end of it - stuffed and happy. All the moreso because I didn't have to pay for the meal :) I was a little disconcerted that the prices were not on the menu - that always makes me worried so I'm assuming it was fairly pricey. Went here for lunch as it appeared to be he best value to try this Michelin starred restaurant. Nice presentation but food was honestly nothing special, no better than what I've had at some Indian lunch buffets in the States. I got the non veg sampler. Fish was talapia and it was very dry. I have had better fried okra at a local dive buffet. I paid £30 pounds after discount including tip. Extraordinary in every way. The offerings were sophisticated with meats and fish done perfectly and spices that were not overwhelming. The service was excellent. Our waiter was knowledgable and attentive. The atmosphere was soothing without being too dark. Our wine selection ( the Sauvignon blanc) was delightful. We had a thoroughly pleasant meal here, but I honestly don't see what all the hype is about and I didn't get Michelin star food/vibe. We decided to go with the tasting menu so we could get the full experience. There wasn't one bad thing we tried, but I dont know that I found it soooo much better than the Indian cuisine I get in Louisiana......I cant believe I'm saying that! And one of courses involved Tilapia.....which seemed rather low caliber for a Michelin star place. The service is solid and attentive although the tasting meal dragged on. Can't say enough here to convey what a wonderful experience we had here. The services was spot-on. The food - incredible. This is a revolutionary approach to southern Indian food. Well done. Our server was on the task all night. They took care of every detail. The server even noted that I have an interest in spicy food early during the evening. Recently awarded a Michelin star, this is a wonderful Indian restaurant. The decor is a bit plain and old fashioned, but the food more than makes up for it! Beautifully spiced and light dishes - quite a contrast to your usual curry house or takeaway. Superb choice for vegetarians with lots of side dishes, spinach and lentils. Staying at Conrad in Westminster in st james. Walked few blocks to Michelin star restaurant. We went thurs nt at 7:30 reservations. Service was excellent. We got seafood tasting menu for $85 pounds per person. 5 course meal in addition to palate cleansers. Crackers with various toppings was complimentary, it was garlicky, some spicy some not. 1st course was soup, lobster broth, delicious. 2nd, 4 little tastings of very delicious tastes which included my fav, scallop. 3rd, sampling of butter lobster, prawn masala, black cod, all very good, esp butter lobster and prawn. 4th was main course of fish curry, byirani rice and coconut snow peas or asparagus, all very flavorful. Dessert was pistachio cake with ice cream, that was my favorite dessert because it wasn't overly sweet, my husband had chocolate coconut bar which was ok but clearly I would advocate for cake. Everything was 5 star worthy, understated elegance of restaurant, you don't need to get dressed up but wear neat attire, it was not pretentious and people seemed to enjoy ethnic food in classy quiet not over the top atmosphere. It did not appear to be a lot of food but we did not leave hungry and we left some food on our plates. If you are looking for something different, I would highly recommend this place. read more

I have been here a few times for work lunches and it is always excellent quality. I would give it 5 stars, but its quite pricey. I think they may now even have a michelin star, but dont quote me on that. Its definately a big step up from your typical curry house with all sorts of original dishes. Excellent south indian cuisine. For appetizers we had the crab cakes and sea scallops. We had the sea bass and the black cod for the main course. The sea bass was served with a flavorful salsa on top. The serving sizes were quite large even though we only ordered the "half size" option. Crispy lentil cakes with chutney were served as an appetizer, and a warm tomato soup was served as a palette cleanser between courses. The service was very attentive. read more

Stopped for dinner at this South Indian restaurants. Welcome starts with papad with 2 chutney and 4 types of pickles. Warm rasm drink is very tasty. Malbar paratha with fish dishes are the best I had. Bill came with with 4 small delicious chocolates. Background Indian music and chef to help with dishes and manager stopped-by as courtesy makes the service experience worth visiting. Intersteing rather than amazing restaurant for me. Unusual food like spiced tomato soup served in a wineglass; rather upsettingly warm/hot when I tried to glug my wine and picked up wrong glass. I would have to vote for the Cinnamon Club as better. Decor definitely old school Indian Restauarnt as compared to the nearby Cinammon club (*which is more modern). I have had some wonderful Indian meals in London, and this was one of them. As I am frequently a solo diner, I try to find places that are comfortable for a party of 1, and this was. In fact there were other solo diners as well. The service was exceptional and the food very good. Although they specialize in seafood, I was in the mood for something else. I started with the chicken in coconut cream, which was delicious; very tender and flavorful. I had the lamb shank for an entree which was also very good. I ordered their special bread (I don't know the name, but it was like naan in a pinwheel) which was outstanding. For dessert I had the chai crime brûlée - perfect! Recommended by our family in the Cotswolds we decided to try Quilon. We are used to more traditional Indian cuisine and weren't sure what to order. Our waiter was fantastic as was the rest of the staff. We have a six year who likes Indian food but wasn't sure about the entrees. They have a kids menu/plate that was fantastic. After a little caution my son devoured it and said "delicious"! We would agree, each item we ordered was superb, wonderful flavors, and items we've never had before. Quilon can be called as modern south indian food. I have been here twice now for business lunch and dinner. Have not been disappointed. The service is very good and the portions are pretty decent. The malabar paranthas were awesome and the coconut chutneys given at the start with poppadums (or appalams as we call it) were divine. This place does stage quite a show on the table. Items come and go with impressive speed and precision, which means this isn't the place to chat with your waiter about options on the menu. I went for lunch on a weekday, and while some staff members were friendly, others seemed pressed for time. Crowd was split between businessmen and tourists. I had the set lunch menu. The meal starts with small papadums and a variety of tasty condiments. Then a tomato soup that is hot and aromatic, which makes for a nice experience. After that a few misses: the fried cauliflower was salty and bland, and the mango curry wasn't memorable. The yellow rice was fluffy, as promised, but a little too oily. But then things picked up again: the flavors of the Prawn masala and richness of the Malabar paratha are a terrific combination. read more

Simply beautiful ... everything! Food, decor, service, wine list, staff - all absolutely lovely! Started with gobi kempu bezule (cauliflower chili fry) which I found especially interesting since I've attempted it. Thanks to the staff that patiently explained their preparation process. I will surely try the yogurt & frying approach over mine of butter & baking when I return home! Also had masala dosa starter which was equally good. Main included prawn masala & stuffed quail legs! Recommended sides complimented perfectly. Will have to return many times to try the remainder of the tempting menu.
