Surprisingly flavorless which was hard to compute since there was indeed jalapeños and guacamole on my burger. I didn't even taste any spices on the hamburger patty. I was pretty disappointed. On the other hand, the fried zucchini was very tasty which is a good thing because they give you a lot of them. I'd definitely get these again. Overall, my first trip to R Burger was a bit up and down. The service and speed to get the food out was amazing. The burger I ate was pretty meh but the fried zucchini was excellent. It seems the restaurants near UCR are multiplying like rabbits. Many are small, non-chain businesses, actually a trend that puts a smile on my face. I hate chains. Lucky for them, there are a lot of hungry students looking for not only good food, but a decent place to congregate. By golly, I think I just found another. A few reliable sources had already clued me in what to expect, with some pretty tempting pictures to back up their 4 star reviews. So I drove a bit farther than normal just to get a "common" hamburger. Their hamburger is better than most other fast food drive-thrus. You can tell these hefty 1/3 pounders are hand formed. The beef patties are thicker and irregularly edged, unlike the pre-formed, frozen variety. Grilled, not steamed, made with good quality ground meat, it had an old fashioned flavor. They even tried to cook it medium rare for us. Sadly, they struck out on that, but the meat was good enough I felt forgiving. The choices are compelling, offering pastrami, avocado, bacon and/or fresh mushrooms for additional toppings. Not bad. We tried the onion rings this time. They are HUGE, with a coating that does not overwhelm. The outdoor patio, which in our case accommodated our dog, is a pretty good option for those willing to brave the weather. Spacious and can't complain about the cacophony either, it was pretty peaceful for being outdoors near the street. The burgers are reminiscent of the flavor of a Route 66 burger joint. And if your are too young to relate to that, try going there so you can find out. read more
