RJ's is always pretty good, but I hadn't been in for quite a while and I was pleasantly surprised this time. Since the weather wasn't going to cooperate for Father's Day, I decided to take Dad out for BBQ. Admittedly the first and second choices were basically unavailable due to world cup fans flocking them, so the wait times were untenable. While RJ's was busy, there was fortunately no wait. I opted for chopped brisket and turkey with fries while the old man went with a pulled pork po boy. Thought the food was really, really good. Service was excellent. Blessed to have this place nearby. We've been coming here for a while since it is not very far from us, and every time we have their food, we are not disappointed. Most recently we ordered several items to go and brought it to the Chiefs game. Billy is super friendly and nice. We also recommend their Sunday brunch option. Being a sauce enthusiast, I can vouch that their selection of sweet, regular and spicy are well seasoned. The delivery took a longer time than expected. Because of another stop which was made the food arrived cold. The brisket looked like scraps that were left over. They were cold and tough. The fries where ice cold and I paid extra for them. Also the "garlic toast" was just a crust of hard bread that had only a bit of garlic flavor. My husband and I returned to the Bob-Be-Que Shack for an anniversary dinner, and we had a great meal! Sherry was once again our waitress, and once again went over and above. When I asked about vinegar for my spinach greens, she went to the pantry and found some apple cider vinegar for me. How sweet! She guided us through the menu (we were there early in the evening, and lunch was being served, along with dinner options, until 5 pm) and came back to check on us frequently. She was friendly and welcoming and made sure we enjoyed our meals. The food was DELICIOUS! I had the pulled pork Po' Boy sandwich, perfectly put together with coleslaw on the hoagie bun, and a side order of spinach greens, equally tasty. My husband had the burnt ends lunch special, which was yummy; he only wished the portion of meat was a little larger. He'll know next time to order the dinner portion. R. The dining room is small but there's no shortage of parking spaces. Service was good and it was full table service. The food was good. I ordered a burnt ends sandwich and potato salad. The sandwich was skimpy and the potato salad was mediocre. All-n-all, it was enjoyable and I'd return in a heartbeat if I lived closer. Their southern bbq sauce is also really tasty with it, it is slightly sweet and has a good tangy flavor. My best friend and his wife had their wedding rehearsal dinner here so the place holds very high significance to them. I myself was jet-lagged from the first time I had ever flown on an airplane. The Mac and cheese was really yummy (the only thing that could've made it better is having a some sort of coating on top---breadcrumbs or Parmesan?). The burnt ends in the sandwich had a really smoky taste and nice crust. It was a little lean for my tastes, but the flavor was good and the bbq sauce with it made the whole entree come together. For 35$ you get way more food than two people ever should eat or try. We did try. I thoroughly enjoy RJs ribs. Simple and delicious. The sausage is amazing. The smoked chicken was great and flavorful. The only thing I will not repeat is the chopped brisket. Not that it did not have good flavor. I was working down the street and really excited to try this neighborhood BBQ spot I heard a lot about. I called my order in and picked it up, with the person checking me out actually checking to see all elements of my order were packed and correct (so many places don't do this). Great customer service and the price of the food was pretty fair. I got a pulled chicken sandwich and a side of mac and cheese and coleslaw with an unsweet tea. The pulled chicken style is definitely different from what I am used to with east coast BBQ however felt quite healthy to me and the seasoning was great. The coleslaw was a beautiful marriage of creamy and sweet with some acidity. The mac and cheese was a bit bland for my liking but I added in some of their hot bbq sauce and it made it absolutely amazing. Been here several times, & done carryout. Consistent every time. Huge fan of the bison empanadas, so unique. They are buttery and the dipping sauce has a lot of kick. Excellent food, great service. The pork belly burnt ends are exceptional. The fries are really good too. The reason I'm leaving 4 stars instead of 5? They close at 8:30. Why would you limit your availability when your food is so delicious?? If they were open till 10pm they would appeal to so many more customers. I tried the nachos, ribs, burnt ends, wings, fries, beans, corn, and mac n cheese. The fries were fantastic. The nachos and ribs were okay but nothing special. The wings would be better if the skin was crispy. The burnt ends were actually burnt and hard as coals which made them inedible. The beans were subpar. The cheesy corn and mac n cheese were bland and didn't have a single sprinkle of seasoning. Canned corn and boiled pasta are a better option than what the restaurant offers. To make things worse, aside from the burnt ends that I had to toss, the food did not seem fresh. Not only was food dry, I couldn't tell if it was borderline going sour or not. I ended up tossing 80% of the food we bought. I felt bad but I could not force myself to eat it. I was already queasy. read more
