Well located, beautiful inn with all the right updates we look for to make this an upscale experience, including quality bedding/bathroom and a delicious homemade breakfast (we had the frittata and special dessert like yogurt/berries cup, muffin, etc.). Charming, professional owner/innkeeper Linda takes great pride in offering an inn with an incredible history (George Washington was a guest!) which has the right modern updates that enhanced our visit -- also, she is a font of knowledge about what to do, see and where to eat in Baltimore!! Wonderful find in an incredibly convenient location. We came down for a long weekend for a convention/mini vacation and really wanted to find a more palatable price tag than the hotels near the Inner Harbor. Looked all over the web and found this B&B, which was much more reasonable per night AND included free parking and breakfast. Our walk to the convention center was 15 minutes at most, basically just on the other side of the baseball stadium. And by the way, there were games both nights of our stay but you wouldn't know since you could barely hear it, even being so close. Tish (innkeeper) couldn't have been any friendlier. She gave us very helpful recommendations for local eateries, remembered the activities we'd mentioned and gave us directions to and from our destinations. Her breakfasts were awesome, and she was very thoughtful. She asked about vegetarian preferences, and made me a separate quiche without meat. We stayed in the Ella Virginia Suite and the room and furniture were gorgeous. Everything was clean and well maintained. All in all, this was far better than getting ripped off for a generic stay in a chain hotel. We will definitely recommend to friends and family and book for future visits to town! read more

I have never stayed at a more lovely B&B, hotel, mom's house, etc...EVER!!! The B&B is gorgeous, from the outside courtyards to the sleeping rooms. We stayed in the Audrey Genevieve Suite and felt like we were in Heaven. It is a beautifully decorated room with THE MOST COMFORTABLE bed in the world. Breakfast was amazing every single morning. My favorite was the pecan French toast w/sausage links. Everything you can think of, they have it. There was even brandy set out for the guests each night. I don't get that at my mom's house. Camden Yards and MT Stadium are literally a ten minute walk from the B&B. The new proprietor, Linda is my new BFF and my husband and I adored her. She is helpful, sweet and a great cook. We even met her lovely family. We are in the midst of planning our next trip to Baltimore/DC and we will look no further than Rachael's Dowry Bed and Breakfast. read more

Stayed over Memorial Day weekend and had an incredible time. We stayed in the Ella Virginia suite and it couldn't have been more cozy and comfortable. We had plans to go out and see the city but it was a struggle to leave the room at times. The rest of the house could not be more charming, as well. This is an attractive and very comfortable B & B in a historic part of Baltimore. The innkeeper, Linda, went out of her way to make us feel at home and was very accommodating when we had a last minute change of dates. We stayed here just before Christmas when a relative was having surgery at the U. of Md. Medical Center, and the location was very convenient. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it. The rooms are quiet, and there is a nice library with a cozy feel about it. read more

I stayed here for 10 days, and i couldn't have been happier with the room, the food, and the hospitality. Tish and Norman are both great cooks, and they are super nice, too. My husband and 13 year old vegetarian daughter joined me a few days after i arrived. They were just as impressed as i was. My daughter was served her own special breakfasts, and she was very comfortable staying there. I really could not recommend Rachael's Dowry enough to anyone wanting to stay in Baltimore. We stayed in the Carrie Frank suite for a weekend visit to Baltimore for dining and a play at the Hippodrome. From the time of our arrival in the private parking lot until our departure, Linda made us feel so pampered and special. As another reviewer said, Linda has a way of making you feel as though you are the ONLY guest at Rachael's Dowry, even when she has a house full of guests. Having visited this B&B when it was under different ownership, we can honestly say that Linda is providing the same excellent hospitality, including the delicious breakfast and evening treats. If you are not able to do stairs or need an extra room for a third party or for someone to work, we highly recommend the Carrie Frank suite. This was my first bed and breakfast and I was very impressed. The home was very comfortable and welcoming. Tish was very friendly and accommodating. We were also impressed with the homemade breakfast! The home and neighborhood were quiet, despite it being a block away from the ballpark. I'm kind of a neat nick so my family always makes me figure out our accommodations on trips. I was just looking for a simple and, most importantly, clean place to stay that wasn't a corporate chain when I booked Rachael's Dowry. It turned out to be one of the most unique and wonderful stays we've had anywhere. The inn has been restored in the most beautiful, tasteful way, and the history of the house and surrounding area is so interesting. From the minute Linda greeted us at the door, everything was just perfect. Every detail is so thoughtful, from the furniture and decor, to the games and books available in the library, to the homemade cookies left out for guests to snack on. Linda is the most kind, gracious and hospitable innkeeper, taking the time to give us a tour and tending to any requests we had. We had let Linda know most of our family does not eat gluten, and it turned out she is an expert gluten free cook/baker, as she doesn't eat gluten herself. She really went out of her way to accommodate us, making the most amazing gluten free pancakes one morning, and baking gluten free cookies. The breakfasts were so delicious and were a real treat. I can't recommend Rachael's Dowry enough. We had such a wonderful and relaxing time there, we are still talking about our stay. We will definitely plan to return when we are in Baltimore next. read more

My husband and I stayed here when attending an event at the Hippodrome. We were able to walk there and to an excellent restaurant recommended by Tish: Forno. Our room was absolutely lovely and comfortable. Norman, our host, was wonderfully attentive, offering history of the area and the house. Each room in the house is beautifully appointed and individually unique. Elegant, including charming antiques. The house is quiet, the fire delightful for early morning reading and late evening cosy comfort in rooms with a fireplace--gas but well done. We are staying there again--in another room--this weekend and look forward to staying each time we visit Baltimore! Rachael's Dowry was fantastic. The innkeeper, Norman, greeted me on the street after I called him for directions for the Light Rail. He gave a tour of the place and gave me some history about it. The B&B is well decorated and clean. Breakfast was delicious - I can't tell you the last time I had real eggs (as opposed to the "egg liquid" that most places use) when served scrambled eggs at a hotel. My room was quiet and clean. The whole place had a quaint charm. It was centrally located to the ballpark and the Inner Harbor. Next time I'm in Baltimore, I will make it a point to stay at Rachael's Dowry. My only complaint? I don't know why it's called Rachael's Dowry. But that's my fault - I forgot to ask! read more

Wonderfully charming, immaculately kept B&B with the perfect location, directly across the street from Camden Yards. The bed in the Randolph room was oh so comfy, the breakfast was delicious, and our host Norman was very friendly. I don't think I could bring myself to ever stay in a chain hotel in Baltimore ever again now that I've been here. Rachel's Dowry: a Bit of Shangri-la in Ridgley's Delight Rachel's Dowry, though it has been in business for only a few years, might have been conceived as a bed and breakfast. It is so ideally suited to that purpose that it can hardly be imagined as anything else. Its excellent accommodations, antique-filled rooms, and aura of comfort are as quintessentially "B & B" as its historical lineage and walkable locale. The house is Ridgley's Delight's most imposing and has outlasted innumerable dust-ups and reconfigurations, not only to the City of Baltimore, but to a politically complicated country that has been invaded once and attempted to tear itself apart fifty years later. Orioles Park/Camden Yards looms above its chimneys and cornices to the east while two-lane roads that are lined with two and three-story houses meander along, away from, and catty-corner to, its spacious front yard. Rachel's Dowry was built in 1798 and has bones to match. And while its façade is Victorian, its interior hearkens back to the days when George Washington was said to have slept in every home and wayfarers from New York and Philadelphia found a comfortable place to land while they were in Baltimore City on business. Modern-day guests may well gawk at its well-appointed interior, which has been restored to such a fare-thee-well that its many nuances go, paradoxically, unnoticed. Yet all of its amenities blend to create an experience that is tinged with the brandy one can sip in its library and suffused with the light that is filtered by a "heritage" magnolia in the courtyard, from which a guest may enter after parking in its private lot. One may choose from six rooms, which can be found in the main house as well as an annex that had very likely housed slaves and servants. The one my fiancé and I stayed in was appointed with a fine four-poster bed, a fireplace whose flames could be remotely controlled, and a basin-style "water fountain". Its bathroom, while small, was well-designed, with a walk-in shower and "green"/single-flush toilet. The room's color-scheme was as calming as its view of the courtyard, whose brick-inlaid charm was as potent as any of the house's interior features. Though we didn't utilize them, complimentary internet, satellite TV, as well as iPod/iPhone docking stations, were available to us. (We are luddites whose techno-savvy extends to opening car doors.) Solar panels contribute to an energy-efficient heating and air-conditioning system. And should business-folk want to catch up on emails, work stations provide for that. Our host, Norman Finnance - who, along with his sister, Letitia Finnance Bohner, renovated the house in 2010 - could not have been more generously unobtrusive, though he was always accessible and never less than gracious. He and his sister are obviously in love with the place. No B & B in my experience has been given such lavish care and attention. Mr. Finnance (et al) is so intimately acquainted with the restoration process - which was necessary to get the house "in gear" - that his subtle decision-making is embedded in every little thing. His thoughtful questions regarding our nutritional preferences bore fruit (as it were) in our breakfast, which suited our vegan propensities to a T. Kudos should not be spared on the dining-room, whose marble fireplaces and random-width floorboards evoked the past as unassumingly as the parlor into which it flowed. Because of a security system that was easy to operate and understand, our comings and goings were drama-free. Though I don't claim to have much savvy in this regard, I have stood outside of hotel rooms pleading with the gods to let me in. Eventually a three-dimensional person comes, to our mutual embarrassment, and rescues me. At Rachel's Dowry, there was, thankfully, no need to worry about being stranded outside. What was wrong with Rachel's Dowry? If I could think of something, I'd love to share it with you. You feel like you are at a quiet retreat when you stay here not in the heart of the city. The street and outside of the B & B look like the charming inns you read about in a good book. The serene experience continues as you walk through the landscaped front yard, through the wide glass doors into the historical home with the music softly playing and the delightful host Linda. I felt like a princess in a fairytale with the bed so plush and high my feet could not touch the floor...of course there was a stepper. Everything had been thought of down to the smallest detail. I even loved the choice of faucets and the beautiful draperies. Easy access to transportation and sightseeing but when you return to your room, you never want to go home. Breakfast was phenomenal in service, presentation and atmosphere. Linda is a great storyteller about the history of the B & B and her own life which is just as interesting. I was glad I took my tour before leaving so I could take in every detail. It was nice to meet new people in the common spaces and share the day's activities. read more

We had a fabulous Bicycle Tour with Penny, the owner at Light Street Cycles. She rode her bike and met us at Rachael's Dowry and we took off from there for a leisurely 15 mile tour of the inner harbor and surrounding area. How awesome to spend a couple of days in a quaint residential area, blocks from Camden Yard and a perfect location to enjoy neighborhood restaurants. read more
