I needed to get a hitch installed on my car for a bike rack and this was one of the top search results. Called on Monday but they didn't have it in stock. They ordered it and it arrived on Tuesday! Talk about FAST! I made my appointment for Weds and it took a little over 2 hrs to install. They even put a trim around the part to make it look cleaner. Definitely the best place to get set up for towing I found.  I needed to get a hitch and wiring to tow a trailer for my Jeep Liberty.  I did some checking online and saw that Rack N Road in Costa Mesa was recommended.  I have actually shopped in their Seattle store.  Anyway when I called in I was asked a bunch of questions about what I was towing, how heavy it was and what plug I needed for my trailer and a few more questions.  It took me a bit to gather all the information, but the guy I spoke with was patient and got all the info.  The price he gave me wasn't the cheapest, but the time he took and the questions he asked, I knew the $20 extra or so that their package was well worth the money spent.  I wasn't even sure if the other place I called was giving me all the same parts and installation.  I got an appointment, went in and about 2 hours later the hitch was on and the wiring was done.  If I need a hitch for another vehicle I will come here.  I recommend the to everyone. I needed a trailer hitch and wiring harness for my Jetta. I got there right at 10:00, when they open. The guy that helped me said that everything was in stock, the installation technician didn't have any appointments, and they would need 2 - 2 1/2 hours to complete the job. I authorized the work, and left for about 2 hours. When I returned, it looked like the hitch was on, but they hadn't even started on the wiring yet. I waited another hour and finally asked how much longer. He told me about another 1/2 hour. So that's 3 1/2 hours for a 2 - 2 1/2 hour job, and counting. In 1/2 hour my car was still up on their rack, so I asked again how much longer. He said another 20 minutes. Exactly 30 minutes later, my car was finally done. So they took 4 hours to complete a 2 - 2 1/2 hour job. The only reason anybody updated me on timing was because I specifically asked. I am in customer service myself, and I've always said to under promise and over deliver. This was simply bad customer service. I had another appointment that I needed to make at 2:30 that day. Had they been done on time, I would have had time to spare, but because they took almost twice as long as they had first told me, I was barely able to make my other appointment. What should have been a leisurely experience became a very stressful day for me. In the end, I am happy with the install. That's why I gave 2 stars, but their customer service failed that day. Someone should have kept me updated on why and how much longer this would take. read more

Excellent place to get your racks! We went about 3 weeks ago to get a 2-bike rack for our Jeep Cherokee. I had been referred to this place by another bike rider so we decided to check it out. When we got there, we were greeted by the manager, Reggie, and we asked him about a specific model (Thule's T2) for our needs. His explanation on the product was full and detailed. We were convinced. Reggie informed us that he had just one installed for display so we could take that one (and we wouldn't have to pay for assembly). We noticed the displayed item was very new, not even dust yet on the rack. Then they installed it in the Jeep in 5 min. Reggie gave us some tools and tips on how to take care of the rack. We left happy with the purchase. Fast forward 3 weeks. A couple of days ago I went back because I noticed the rack was wobbly. The guy in the front desk (sorry, I couldn't see his name) helped me to make the rack back to normal (i.e. tight and secure) and he even gave me the wrench for free so I could keep it in the car for future use. FLAWLESS This is place is simply awesome. I had scheduled an appointment to have a Hitch installed on my VW Touareg today (which is cumbersome to do by myself as VW made nearly impossible for beginners to remove the bumper cover). I had bought the hitch itself from Amazon for a cheap price (CURT 13116 that fits VW, Cayenne and Q7). This place specializes in professional installations of CURT hitches. They also good collection of parts & rental supplies. What made the experience wonderful was price & service. I got free telephone support when i called Josh & he gave me a discount straight away. And Jason seems to be aware everything about installing it in the touareg. I troubled both of them at different occasions asking same kind of questions, got similar responses and helpful tips. After installing the hitch the removed bumper beam was already in my trunk & serviced delivered before the promised time. I will go again later sometime to get the wiring and tow packing added. I came in here the other day to get come yakima clips for a second car and I also needed some other misc parts. I was shocked when they had the small items I needed without replacing the entire component. There was one small hiccup which they made went above and beyond to make right. I also bought a ski rack for my skis, and they were more then helpful in picking the right one and Jason went above and beyond and actually installed my rack on my new car to try and make things right. I didn't even get her name-- but it says Ashley L on the receipt. So here's the story, I bought a Thule bike rack a year ago from REI and moved from Long Beach to Huntington Beach, and through that process, lost keys to both the foot packs and the bike rack attachment. Since I couldn't find the keys, someone said that they have the master key at the installation place, and it would cost about $40 per lock. That's 3 locks at $40 per= $120. i figured I needed to do this since the rack is completely useless being locked and all. I went to the REI store, and he told me that it cannot be removed unless the aforementioned locks were in the "unlocked" position. He suggested I call Thule directly to help with this; and the other option was Rack n Road in Costa Mesa. I figured I didn't have much to lose, so I went to Costa Mesa, and spoke with the sales associate, and gave her the situation. Alas, she showed me their entire "key collection" of various manufacturer's racks, and found my key! I bought two of them, and stowed one in the car for safe keeping. Needless to say, I am a happy camper! No need to call Thule, no need to replace the "master locks" @ $40 per, and I get to use my rack again for a grand total of $16 for two replacement keys. I gotta thank the salesperson at REI for suggesting this place! and thanks Ashley L, for giving me the use of my rack again. Looks like I'll be a repeat customer. read more

I had a choice between buying a used bike rack on Craigslist and saving a little money or buying a used one here. I chose the latter. I'm glad I did, the extra expense was worth it because they installed the rack for me and advised me on the maximum load weight (hitch rack that required an extension to miss the spare wheel). I don't write as many reviews as I should (last one was about 8 months ago) but I had an excellent experience with this store and needed to tell the yelp world. I have an older Maxima and had been holding off buying a stand up paddle board because I did not have a way to transport it. Finally I decided to check out roof racks and I am glad that I went to Rack N Road to do so. Reggie guided me to the Yakima Landing Pad system and I could not be happier about the choice. It is integral to the roof and the bars come off when not in use. Very convenient and functional.
