The food here is good and it has a really cool environment. I would recommend going during off-peak hours.

Yes it really is there. I drove to it then couldn't see the sign then gave up. But once you get it on your mind, nothing else would satisfy so I trusted my gps and gave it another go. Glad I did, this is a real gem. Sitting next to a babbling creek. Being in a meeting all day the last thing I wanted to do is eat inside and the covered deck was great for this first day of March. This is a great place with one caveat- the salads are absolutely drowning in dressing and therefore inedible. I had the blackened mahi mahi which was fantastic. The she crab soup was also fantastic. I really liked this place. I had the special...seared sea scallops in a saffron cream sauce. They were very good! If you order this, do not get a spicy appetizer, the saffron is a very subtle delicate flavor and spice from a appetizer could mask or offset the "yum-factor". I did get the jerk wings to go for lunch tomorrow but sampled a few tonight. very good flavor and not overly hot spice. I would love to come back for another dinner while in town this week! We ate at the bar and this was probably one of my favorite restaurants in Augusta. I believe we talked with the manager for a while, but didn't catch his name. He was welcoming and super friendly, as was the rest of the staff. My partner is Jamaican and had the jerk chicken. If it didn't pass the test, he would know, but he said it was on point. The three pepper sauce made from scotch bonnet peppers was fantastic. I had the frogmore stew, which was a low country boil. It came out piping hot and was good. It did have a little spicy kick but it wasn't overwhelming. They also served the meal with some really good rolls and a delicious garden salad that has a lot of acclaim. Don't bother asking about the salad dressing. They sell it but won't tell you how they make it. It is that good. Looking forward to returning and trying more on the menu. One more thing: The atmosphere is great. It really looks like a rundown shack, like something you'd see in the bayou, complete with a tin roof. Tried their 'Trilogy' which had jerk pork, mahi mahi and the coconut shrimp. Excellent food and a healthy break from the fried food we've been eating for the balance of the trip thus far. Didn't love this place when I lived here 7 years ago and still don't. I gave it another try when some family was in town and others wanted to go there. We started with the jerk wings, which were pretty good; more of a dry rub than wet sauce. Next I had the Rae's salad which was very overdressed. The flavors are good, but SO MUCH dressing--definitely ask for it on the side. I had the crab cake dinner for my entree. The crab cakes are good; decent size pieces of crab and good flavor, but no texture at all. I really wanted a little crunch or crust on the outside. The green beans were abysmal--very undercooked, some with tons of seasoning, others with very little. The saffron rice literally didn't have any flavor; I didn't eat more than two bites of it. If I ever go back, I would stick with the jerk chicken. My husband loves it and gets it every time. If you're going to get a side, go with the black beans; they had pretty good flavor when I tried my husband's. read more

This is a nice off the beaten path resteraunt with a margaretaville twist. My only complaint is that it's so well hidden I'm not even sure how I heard of this place but I'm glad to spread the word. This place has a nice casual atmosphere that just transports you to the Bahamas. There is an excellent choice of seafood and drinks to appease any patron. Or if you just want to swing by catch the game and have a small bite to eat and drink it's great for that as well. I've been here with my wife&kids and we all walk away happy just because it feels like we just flew in from the Keys and got out of the mundane resteraunt circle rutine that you can easily get traped in. I ordered the jerk baby back ribs and they were delicious. Full of flavor and fall off the bone. The service was great and the staff super friendly. Both times I've been the manager came to check on my table to see if we needed anything and made us feel welcome. The first time we tried Raes it was about a 3. We ordered some burgers and a couple of beers and our waitress seemed pretty pissed off that's all we wanted. The sandwiches were good, The service was pretty bad. Everyone has a bad night so we tried again a month later. We ordered steak and mahi mahi.. had a friendly waiter that made the experience great. Authentic Jamaican/Caribbean food & atmosphere, love the way it's decorated, their known for their coconut fried shrimp, their green jacket salad, jerk chicken wings, their ribs, and steak are all awesome! Plus they have the best homemade desserts, definitely worth finding and going too! The onion blossom, jerk pork, and chicken in puff pastry are yummy too, & at lunchtime your tea is included! It has a nice intimate atmosphere and you can usually get in when a lot of other places have long waits. This is probably because of the tricky location. The food is really good. I love the grilled salmon and the steak. The service is always really good. I suggest the carrot cake for dessert. Oh and if you like spicy food, they have a great hot sauce made with peaches. read more

Everything on the menu is delicious, the atmosphere is laid back and fun (in a unique neighborhood location, with a putting green outside!), and the servers have all been excellent. Nice casual restaurant. Jerk Chicken seems to be house specialty-and it was good. Shrimp and Grits was good per my wife and New Orleans Fried Shrimp was "not bad" according to my 15 year old. House salad was very good and key lime pie was a nice finish. Wait staff were all great, though manager was a bit too talkative. What a cool local spot! In town for business, staying at the Quadrupletree, and not in the mood for chains for dinner. Found Rae's on Yelp, looked pretty cool and only 2.5 miles away, so off we go. 2.5 miles is a bit deceiving, I think there's about 40 turns to complete the journey. The route takes you through neighborhoods, then you pull up to a swim & tennis club, and unless you see the nondescript signs pointing the way, you'll never find the place. But what a treasure was waiting on us when we finally found Rae's! Our waitress, V, had me hooked when she said the house beer is Red Stripe and she did a fantastic job of describing the specials and guiding two newcomers through a menu where I wish I could have ordered one of everything. Apparently Wednesday is wine night, 25% off bottles. Our bottle of some Pinot Grigio was only $20 or so after the discount. For apps, I had the jerk wings and my business associate had the she crab soup. Wings fried perfectly, subtle jerk flavor (I wish it had been more pronounced but they were good nonetheless) and I didn't even try them with the ranch (or was it bleu cheese?). Despite being on a diet and avowing to only eat a small portion of his soup, my associate woofed down the entire bowl. The house salad was excellent, and I honestly could have stopped eating afterward and been completely satisfied. However, we both ordered specials, the scallops for my friend and the crab cakes for myself. He said the scallops were some of the best he's ever had; my crab cakes were fried to perfection, plenty of tasty lump crab and only enough filler to bind everything together. Had we saved room for dessert, I'm sure I'd also be raving over those now as well. Check it out, you won't be disappointed! read more

Rae's is my favorite restaurant in Augusta. They don't advertise, so you have to find them! Wonderful atmosphere and very pleasant staff. I had the salmon (orange borboun sauce) which was delicoius. My boyfriend had a sampler with coconut shrimp and jerk pork. I recommend both! We also had mango pie. We will be going back asap! Dinner entrees are decently priced (not too expensive, but not cheap.) Sandwiches and salads are very reasonable. Great restaurant for all budgets and AWESOME food. read more

The downfalls I find for the place is it is difficult to find, the parking is horrible, and at it feels they have forced too many tables in making it cramped. That aside I really like the feel of the restaurant. It feels clean and fun. I have had a pasta dish and wings and both have been really good. As far as beer they do not have the best selection but they do make some good mixed drinks. A definite place to try.. well if you can find it then find a parking spot that is. read more

Fantastic jerk chicken! My favorite dish is shrimp and grits. Sadly there are no vegetarian options. They like to boast that their salad is best in town. This is a fantastic seafood restaurant. It is not easy to find, but definitely worth the trek. Their crab cakes and Shrimp and grits are top notch. I wouldn't usually brag about a salad or salad dressing, but they guys have the best house salad I've ever had. Everything was very fresh and flavorful. The atmosphere was intimate and eclectic. It was a little on the pricey side, so it stays in the birthday/anniversary/ special occasion place and not the "hey lets grab some dinner" place. It's ok, not great. Locals seem to like it, but most friends from outside of Augusta are unimpressed. Having recently moved here, my basis for comparison is a city with a better food scene - I may be unfairly comparing this to really good places. I thought the service was slow but friendly, the decor was a little tired but cute. The food itself - this was why I probably won't come back. Everything was kind of over salted, under-spiced, and a little greasy. The grits were so-so. The fish was overcooked and the shrimp was as well - just sort of soggy and limp. There was nothing really wrong about the place, but I just can do better with 10 minutes and some groceries at home; ultimately not worth the time or $ to go out here. As Augusta's food scene explodes, this place is going to have to keep up or it will be a casualty. read more

My husband and our friends were looking for a place to get dinner and martinis (it was National Martini Day) and we came across this place on Yelp. Getting here was a little confusing because its pretty much in the back of a neighborhood. But the area was really cute and people were so friendly. The parking lot was full, so we had to park near the neighborhood tennis court, which was only a 2 min walk to the restaurant. The drinks were good and the food was pretty awesome too. The wait staff and manager were so nice. Erin was a great waitress, ask for her when you go. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and the specials. Trey the GM, was super friendly and he pretty much told us his life story, which was very interesting. If you want a martini, I recommend the Key lime Martini, its so good. You should have it in place of a dessert. We will definitely be back. read more
