So we ordered our food on the app at 4:30. Got there at 5:40 and it's still had not been made and it said 20 to 25 minutes so we were kind waiting for our food. Didn't ask for a discount or anything. When our food finally came out we asked for an extra cup of sauce for the calzones and they said they were afraid they would have to charge us. I said you mean you want to charge me for a small little container of sauce when you didn't print out our order and it wasn't even ready. So something that was placed at 4:30? The food is good, but the strong smell of mothballs throughout the restaurant detracks from enjoying one's meal. I've eaten at Rafael's many times. I'm not a fan of overly-priced big chain pizza places, so Rafael's is a nice spot. I've never eaten there (I always take my pizza to go) so I can't speak on the dine-in experience. Their pizza is delicious, though, and they always have a 2-for-1 special on large pizzas. Soft crust, good amount of toppings, and it tastes good reheated. I've never had anything here but their pizza, but their menu is so extensive, their entrees are probably frozen TV dinner-type entrees. No way they're cooking all that stuff back there in that small kitchen. But, again, I don't go here for their sandwiches or entrees or salads. Some long time customers of this establishment treated my wife and I to a pizza because I had some surgery. I thought ours was ok, nothing special in the way of pizza but they reported back that they had been going there for years and its "just wasn't the same", not happy. After reading some of the reviews I see there may have been some changes recently? I hope they figure it out, I see great potential here. Great place to take the kids for pizza. Very affordable for large groups. They have lots of options to choose from as well.

We enjoy eating here. It's just kind of a fun place to take the family after work on a Friday night. There is a big menu to where everyone is happy. I really like the deal that includes a couple of pies and a salad. I grew up on NY style pizza and this isn't it but it is good for Tennessee pizza. When this restaurant first came to Collegedale it was amazing. My favorite dish is the Tex Mex Fajitas-NOT ANYMORE! New ownership still customer service friendly but the food quality is horrible. Horrible pizza dough - store bought thin dough with a terrible sour taste. I should have known something wasn't right because on the way home the smell was not at all like fresh baked pizza. When I took a bite the cheese was hard not at all gooey so I looked at the bottom of the crust and saw all the little perfectly poked holes and that's how I knew it was cheap store bought dough. After reading the reviews and menu her on Yelp we decided to grab sandwiches (hoagies/grinders/subs) locally to bring home. I wanted a small roast beef, lettuce, tomato, provolone cheese, mayo sandwich- not toasted. My husband ordered a ham, lettuce, tomato, mayo, provolone sandwich-not toasted. I also ordered 2 small antipasto salads. One for dinner and one for work the next day. My husband arrives home with a Steak and cheese sandwich after finding out that was the choice for roast beef. One bite....meat was dry and tasted terrible. No big deal I thought. I still have the antipasto. The salami, ham, and cheese big slices on top tasted like cheap no name brand meat. The iceberg lettuce was fresh. The kalamata olives were squishy. The tomato slices were sliced as if they were for the sandwiches and they too were very thin and soft and squishy. Well that was 2-2 for me and the thought of the 2nd one for lunch tomorrow was a no go. My husband opened his ham sandwich to find melted cheddar cheese all down the center of this sandwich, a layer of ham, lettuce, tomato and then melted provolone on top of that... This was the same ham as I had on my salad. After taking a few bites neither of us ate anything else. Needless to say we won't be going back. read more

My husband and I just moved here to Ooltewah for a few months and after moving in all day we were ready for dinner. Pizza was what we decided sounded good and we decided to find a place in between the Walmart we were grabbing some quick things at and our apartment. So we settled on this place. I ordered a large supreme pizza on the phone because I couldn't find a super reliable menu online anywhere. When we got there it was super cheap, their large was more like a medium. Very disappointed! We've ate here for many many years but not sure we will be back if this is what service is like now. My plan was to call in the order but over the course of 30 minutes I called over 10 times and was either put on hold for 5 min then hung up on or hung up on right away. They answer saying "rafeals please hold" and don't give you a chance to tell them you've already been on hold for a while. I figure they must be so busy they can't keep up. When I got there, there's staff just standing around acting like they don't know what to do. I was told my order would be ready in 10-15 minutes but it actually took much longer than that. They also now charge a credit card fee. Must be new management and staffing. They don't seem eager to earn our business. Hope it gets better! read more

I was in Collegedale on Oct 1 visiting family, and my mom told me about this eatery. She said she had been wanting to try it, so we did. Wow! First off, the prices are unbelievable. $4.95 for a meatball calzone that would easily feed two people, and it was good! Mom had the $6.95 chicken quesadilla, which comes with a salad, and she had enough left over for another meal. I noticed that they seem to sell more pizza than anything, which is a not-as-deep version of the Chicago deep-dish pizza. They looked really good, so the next day, we decided to try one. I ordered a medium vegetarian pizza, and two small salads. I drove down to pick it up, only to find that all pizzas (except personal size) are BOGO, and the "small" salads are huge. We had enough food to feed 6 people, all for about $25. You just simply cannot find a better value anywhere, and the food is very, very good. Great place to take your family. Took my father, father in law, brother in law and husband here for a Fathers Day dinner. The ladies room was DISGUSTING. I literally had to clean it with the hand soap and paper towels to be able to use the toilet. We finished our meal, packed our left overs and were sitting chatting when a maggot began crawling out of the red pepper flake shaker that we had been using! We spoke to a very nice young lady who tried her very best to help resolve the situation by contacting the owners, however the male owner only wanted to offer us a discount! A discount on food we sprinkled maggot infused red peppers flakes on! The young lady called the female owner who agreed to give us a refund of our meals but would have to call us back the next day due to personal reasons going on at the time. Our names and numbers were taken. I have still not received a return phone call or refund despite having reached out to the restaurant again today. I understand personal things happen in people's lives, but if you are running a business, good customer service is important. This establishment is lacking in MANY ways. HOW it is still running I can't fathom. The young lady that was sympathetic and helpful was the only good experience about the place. I don't recommend this place , I found a bite in my cucumber that was in the salad, I called several times , no manager in duty after 30 min or so they finally answered the phone and they took my phone number, no one called me until I called back again 2 days later, they put me with someone that wasn't either manager or owner , he was in "charge" I guess, I did send him a picture of the cucumber and that's it . So far until today nobody has called me . Health department should be checking on this guys because the people cooking weren't wearing a mask! This is a pretty decent hole in the wall Italian place. They have a bit of everything on the menu. We've liked their pizza deal because it's always buy one get one. The pizza isn't my favorite but it's just as good as the fast food chain and I like to support local when I can. We order ahead often and I have to say the customer service over the phone isn't the best. They often sound overwhelmed or have an accent that can be difficult to understand over the phone. When dining in there's plenty of seats. There is this weird side room that serves as some sort of storage but also looks like they've been renovating it for the last 5 years. When we got home, we realized they gave us the wrong pizzas. They were suppose to remake the correct pizzas. Double cheese pie, Margarite pie, 3 cheese pie. All extremely different flavors. All a very good value. All it's own kind of thing versus a different type of pizza. Literally my favorite pizza. NYPD is second, but has my favorite fettuccine Alfredo when the right people make it. So I shouldn't have made the comparison? All of life is rated based on comparisons. Rafael's isn't going to make me a huge calzone quite the same way as NYPD and NYPD is not going to magically learn how to make double cheese pie or 3 cheese pie the way that I like it. I like both of these places and the comparison is inevitable because they both really know what they are doing. Rafael's has the benefit of many years of nostalgia particularly concerning the double cheese pie, which I would buy and eat in high school. Oh and the Soddy location won't necessarily make you some of those pies. So we never go there as that is what we are looking to order and the Collegedale one is well practiced at it. read more

Sad, sad, sad. I have eaten there for the past 15 years, always ordering take out. Typically, the counter help is pretty decent, but whoever hired the chunky red headed guy needs to rethink that decision. He was rude, bored, and generally didn't look very clean. I ordered the same thing I always order, chicken souvlaki, and it was anemic looking and they forgot the utensils and the tzatziki sauce after I specifically ordered extra. None, nada, zip. So, rude service (to others around me as well), and the food quantity and quality has slid downhill. It would have helped if the kitchen staff hadn't kept running in and out the back door (chunky red did too) and not a one of them washed their hands when they returned to work. The coke fountain, and the less than sanitary refill is alive and well here as well. In this day of Covid concerns, this is a no go for me. No reason to ever go back. read more

I've eaten here for years. It's not a fancy place or gourmet dining, but it is good and inexpensive. Most recently, the staff was friendly and very helpful. While the prices have gone up, the increase is very slight. For example, the calzones were $6.15 and now are $6.60. The food was pretty good, but it's been better. Things I like to eat here: -Chicken Strip Pita - be sure to ask for the cucumber dip to go with it. -Greek chicken salad -Fried zucchini and fried mushrooms (this time they were not crisp, actually a bit soggy) -Calzones (they're still good, but I did not like the chicken in my Florentine Chicken Calzone). -Buffalo Wings The pizzas are great for groups. Came here with a group of coworkers for an early lunch. This is a quick pizza/burger place. Interior is a bit less than absolutely clean. Service, order at the counter, was friendly. The Greek salad was simple, with olives that were not pitted. The burgers that some of the group had looked good. The restroom was disgraceful, with dirty floors and a sink that was falling apart. This review focuses just on their pizza for the food portion. My wife and I have lived in the Ooltewah area for four years now, and this is our favorite place to go for pizza! We always take advantage of their buy 1 large 1-topping pizza, get one free! We think the pizza is great! I rate it four stars because while the taste is very, very good, it is quite greasy. Don't expect a crunchy crust either, as I wouldn't say it's soggy, but it's doughy. If they could make it less greasy with a crunchy crust and keep the original flavor, I'd probably rate it five stars, but give it a try before you decide! It's very tasty! The interior isn't bland, but nothing fancy either. It's a pizza parlor. Feels like it could be cleaner, especially around the hot sauce/eating utensils bar. I've never had a problem with the staff. They seem nice, but not too many smiles are seen. The food comes out at a good rate, and I've never had to send anything back.
