Thanks to fellow Yelpers who highly recommended Raffetto, I would never discover this hidden gem on my own just walking down Houston Street. I stopped by after shopping on Saturday and picked up 2 nights of dinner. Fresh Rosemary Tagatallie to pair with Tomato & Basil sauce and Gorgonzola & Walnut ravioli to pair with Pesto sauce. I had the Tagatallie the same night which took 20 mins to whip up and WOW was I impressed. It smells so good and tasted DELICIOUS!!!! I had the Ravioli's the next night and it was just as good. Aight I'm biased, as the younger Raffetto is a good friend of my sister's. But dude, this place is AWESOME. You can buy fresh pasta by the pound for the same price as dried stuff from Key Food, and it's amazing. The sauces are reasonably priced and delicious as well (mushroom pesto? Hello). This is also the place to go for those random dried Italian beans called for in fancy recipes from the Babbo cookbook or whatever. I like that this place has been around for over a century but is still actually great, not seemingly great out of nostalgia. Cash only. This place is OLD SCHOOL, okay? Rafetto's offers a nice selection of ready to heat meals, fresh ravioli and pastas and dry Italian goods. As far as the heat and eat meals, I love the Roman gnocchi for a dinner option. Heat that sucker and serve with a salad and wine and you're a domestic goddess...and for the right price, too. I think a package which could easily serve 3 or 4 is under 9 bucks. Ravioli flavors are varied and change seasonally. They are decent, but I have picked up an off batch once or twice. Everyone who works here is awesomely friendly. read more

If we lived closer, I would probably be in Raffetto's every week. Instead, it's a wonderful pilgrimage, sometimes followed by a stop at nearby Arturo's. Buying fresh pasta here can be a bit overwhelming -- you can choose from more than a dozen flavors, then pick one of many sizes. If you're stumped, just ask someone. They'll talk you through the right choice based on the sauce you're making. I got some black pepper pappardelle this weekend. It's so flavorful it almost doesn't need sauce. It's simple, really: if you don't have the time, desire, or skill to make your own pasta at home, you can't go wrong with Raffetto's. In fact, you'd probably make a mistake if you go anywhere else. The only competition would be Murray's and Citarella for their delicious ravioli, but other than that... what other place lets you choose from over 20 different types of fresh pasta (among which squid ink, chocolate, saffron, lemon, black pepper, buckwheat, etc.) and cuts the pasta right in front of your eyes? I am in love with Raffetto's. It has definitely become one of my unhealthy obsessions. First of all, the combination of foods that are being prepared in the back hits your nostrils as soon as you walk in the store. It's so delicious, I hate to leave the store once I've paid. Everything is freshly prepared on the premises. You can purchase a pound of already packaged pasta and you cannot help but eat every last bit. My usuals include: tortellini with pieces of smoked mozzarella, pesto sauce, and roasted red and yellow peppers; cheese lasagna; mac and cheese; and Mezzi Rigatoni with eggplant (YUMM!!! it has eggplant, fresh mozzarella, pieces of whole tomatoes, and parmesan cheese). They don't have a very extensive beverage selection but that is fine with me. To top off a wonderful lunch at Raffetto's, I always buy a Limonata. You cannot go wrong with any pasta dish here. Plus, for the amount of pasta you get, their prices are super cheap. The staff is friendly and helpful. Oh and bring cash!! No cards accepted. I give this establishment my highest recommendation. Raffetto's is unlike any other pasta shop I've been to. Most of all, I love its old world charm. read more

One day I'll make it out to the Bx to this Borgatti's place that has been on the front page of Yelp for months. For now, I'm glad that I got a groupon and sampled some of the pastas here. They made me never want to eat boxed pasta again... which is good, because it's carbs and definitely goes straight to my stomach. Maybe I will only get my pasta from here and have it occasionally. It's a similar phenomenon with cupcakes and cookies-- because I only want the really good ones, I think I actually eat fewer of them. Thanks New York for refining my taste in everything from cupcakes to pasta, and thanks groupon for still having a good deal once in awhile! What I had: fresh-cut squid ink linguini w/ puttanesca sauce, pumpkin tortelloni, and roasted pepper ravioli with bolognese sauce. I wish I knew about this place sooner. I came in here late one night last week just as they were about to close. They basically have a number of different prepared pasta dishes, sauces, and ravioli that you take home and cook yourself. I bought the herb pappardelle with chicken and tomato sauce. I took it home and threw it in my freezer to eat a few days later. When I was ready to eat it, I simply put it in the microwave for a few minutes and wow, one of the best pasta dishes I've had in NYC was enjoyed right in the comforts of my own apartment. For $7.95, this really can't be beat. A super filling portion, and some amazing homemade pasta with a deliciously seasoned sauce and plenty of chicken. I need to stock up on more of these meals because they are absolutely fantastic! read more

Extremely affordable fresh pasta. Its only a few cents more per pound than store-bought pasta. They get $1.50/lb here for fresh pasta. At Eataly, they get $6 (joke). The ravioli are great. I buy a ton at a time and freeze them. No quality loss. The sauces are great too. Also worth noting that they sell La Veneziane Gluten Free (Corn) Pasta here. This stuff is a great alternative to Quinoa or Rice pastas for the GF crowd, and is pretty hard to find. read more

Great prepared meals that you just need to heat if you are in a hurry. They have delicious desserts, great bread, the BEST sauce you can buy at a store (please don't live near Raffetto's and buy jar sauce for $10 from one of the terrible grocery stores in Manhattan) .... Raffetos is the best, I can't say enough good things about it. Whenever I'm in soho I make sure to stop by and grab some stuff for future dinners. I wish I lived closer but it's probably better for my waist size and wallet. Their classic cheese ravioli, although simple, is literally perfect. I prefer the jumbo since you get more ricotta cheese in every bite. I've also had their pumpkin and spinach raviolis and they're all amazing too. The shop is quaint and has old school family vibes. The staff are always friendly and helpful. You can customize flavor and size of your homemade pasta and they cut it to order. The rosemary pasta is hands down the best you can get. Mix it with one of their homemade sauces and you have a restaurant quality meal right in your kitchen. I love the bolognese but the marinara and pink sauce are also great. The fresh ravioli from here is exceptional. You can buy it from Fairway, but I think it's worth the trip to Little Italy. I love how they make the pasta from scratch, as few places do that anymore. Keeping the traditions alive by making delicious plump little raviolis filled with diverse and tasty fillings. I've had the pumpkin, which has just a filling of sweet pureed pumpkin. It tastes great with a sage butter sauce. I've also had the mushroom, which has a filling of woodsy minced mushrooms with ricotta. They have so many different kinds of pastas. This is just about the best rated business on Yelp for good reason; They sell absolutely outstanding, fresh pastas and sauces and offer friendly, helpful service. This first time I went there, I didn't know my tagliatelle from my pappardelle. But instead of rolling their eyes or sighing at the guy who knew nothing, they showed me a chart of pasta sizes and offered helpful suggestions. This shop is an absolute gem! We've lived in the city for an embarrassingly long time without having come here but stopped in for the first time over Thanksgiving wkend and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. Sarah (and the rest of the staff) was so welcoming! She gave great recommendations of pastas to try and also fantastic recipe recommendations and sauce pairing ideas based on what we were looking for and our preferences. We took home the Wild Mushroom ravioli, and also tagliatelle and linguine cuts of the black pepper, lemon/red pepper, and spinach pastas. Had the Wild Mushroom ravioli last night and it was 10/10!! Topped it with only great quality olive oil and Parmesan so that the pasta was the star of the show and it delivered 100%. SUPER flavorful and FILLED with wild mushroom (no cheap fillers or anything here - just legit, super ingredients). For comparison, had some butternut squash ravioli from Eataly during the same dinner and it didn't even compare (everyone agreed; less flavorful, a bit bland, etc.). Can't wait to try more from Raffetto's - you guys are the best! read more

Fabulous spot for authentic handmade fresh Italian pasta and at very good prices to boot. Almost every type imaginable is cut to whatever thickness in a noodle you want - fettuccine, spaghetti, linguine, tagliatelle, pappardelle etc. Many types of ravioli, tortellini and other stuffed pastas and a large selection of homemade sauces also on offer. We picked up ravioli with ricotta and arugula and they were very tasty. Also a large selection of dried pasta lining the shelves and housed in old apothecary glass-front drawers behind the counter. After visiting Raffetto's, one thing is pretty obvious to me: if you have pasta needs, there is no other place you should be going. Towards the western end of Houston Street, Raffetto's is an old-school shop that sells handmade pasta and the good stuff (like San Marzano tomatoes) at very reasonable prices. If you come from Eataly to a place like Raffetto's, it's like night and day - not to mention that the prices are way better. Macaroni and other pastas generally go for $2-3 a pound - more than your generic Whole Foods pasta, but also better quality - and much cheaper than the $10+ that Eataly will try to coax out of your wallet. The pre-made pasta from here is also pretty freakin' solid, too. I sampled some of the lasagna (only $6.95), and it is good in its own right, even though it's not hot out of the oven. If you're looking for pasta, this is pretty much the place to go. I'd probably go to Raffetto's more often if I lived closer, but it's still worth the trek if you're looking for top-notch ingredients at proper prices. read more

I'm happy to have found this place through groupon, b/c after going there I realize it's one of the remaining old-school institutions that every New Yorker should shop at. The fresh sauces and pasta is top notch, especially their stuffed ravioli, which I much prefer over Di Palo's (sorry my love!). I like the small ravioli for the filling to dough ratio. Wasn't a fan of their fresh mozzarella though. Rafetto's is priced just right, and the workers were really helpful. Black ink pasta, sun-dried tomato pesto, and smoked mozzarella cheese - all amazingly delicious. We made another visit yesterday, and picked up their fresh mozzarella, basil pesto, and 'pink' sauce for our weekly Italian dine-in night at home. I just finished eating some lobster ravioli with the clam sauce they sell. Dayum. DAYUM! One of their very generous 50 cent rolls made for excellent garlic bread and the sauce went perfectly with some asparagus, scallions and that delicious ravioli. This is my go-to place for mozzarella cheese, pasta sauce, cookies and nutella. Haven't really tried the raving ravioli yet but I am sure it's really good. Mozzarella cheese--could be better but cheap. Slice them up and eat 'em with tomato. You got your dairy and veggie for the day. Done and done. Pasta Sauce--I tried the pesto and white sauce. White sauce was OK but pesto sauce was excellent. These sauce come very handy when I'm too busy to cook up anything / too poor to go to a nice Italian restaurant. Cookies (next to the register)--At the price of $2.50, they are cute little snack that only last for 12 hours because I devour them, despite trying very hard to shove the cookies in the back of the cabinet. Like, I pop them in my mouth right before I go to sleep and stuff. So bad, so delicious...Evil cookies, they are. Nutella--Morton Williams (the grocery store closest from my place on Bleecker St.) has them at the price $1.50 more than Raffetto's. I actually eat Nutella by itself. It's gone in 2 days. Close your eyes when you sit down to eat their food at home and you're eating in Italy! Came here on a GROUPON and took home a small shopping bag of things-- cheese and spinach ravioli, marinara sauce, spinach tortellini and cheese tortellini, and a pound of whole wheat pasta. Tonight we had the ravioli with the marinara sauce, which was outstanding. Looking forward to another great Italian meal tomorrow. You decide: it's like eating a good home-cooked Italian meal or having a dinner out in a fine Italian restaurant. Either way, the food is very affordable and delicious. The staff is very friendly, patient with newcomers, and very helpful with precise cooking instructions. Given their reasonable prices, there is no reason to buy the inferior boxed products at your neighborhood supermarket. I'll be looking to detour here whenever I can to buy more of their great products.
