This place is in my top 5 best pizza joints in NOVA. I can't say they're my #1 but they're close. Slice was huge! 1 slice and a soda is all you'll need for a perfect lunch at $6 and I believe that's a great deal. Love what they're all about. So i got one of them yummy steak and cheese subs from Rai's Pizza. I can handle 1 piece of hair in my food. mistakes happen and we all aren't perfect right. My wife, not so much, but as i was trying to take pictures of the first hair, my wife walked downstairs from putting our child to bed and caught me. She barely listened to me as i told her to eat it anyways and calm down as it was on my end of the sub as we split a 12 inch sub and a pizza and fried ravioli. She decided to start with a small end/quarter of the sub. I decided to eat the other sub remaining and was thinking of even adding a positive review of how good it was BUT!! Then we find 2 more hairs in her end of the sub she didnt eat. Sorry but thats a little ridiculous in my opinion. 3 pieces of hair in one sub (now i wish when i thought i was chewing hair on one of my bites i checked but thought its all in my head since i found the first hair and chewed and swallowed). My wife did call Rai's but there was no manager on duty and requested a call back the next day and said they would refund her. Just got carryout from Rais for the first time. The cheesesteak sub was very tasty. I got mine with extra whiz, Mayo, and green peppers. It was huge and I ate it with a knife and fork (but I tend to eat all messy subs and sandwiches with a knife and fork). We also got a large pizza, half cheese and half sausage and green pepper. It was good but there was an issue in that I think the pizza was ready first before the rest of the order. When we got home the pizza wasn't quite hot anymore. But other than that, it was good and comparable to a Santinis or Greggorios, which are the my go to pizza places near me. The fried cheesecake thing was a hit with the kids. It comes with 2 cheesecake things, but we already ate one when I took this pic, lol. In terms of my meal, I ate the whole sub, a slice of pizza, and half a fried cheesecake. But I was starving, that was a ton of food and I definitely ate too much. I would say a hungry big eater can finish the cheesesteak. A modest eater could easily make 2-3 meals from the cheesesteak. So overall, I recommend, especially for the cheesesteak, and get extra whiz!! read more

Placed a delivery order 30 minutes before they closed that never showed up. No phone call or anything, so it was about an hour later that I learned that I wouldn't be having dinner. They apparently have a partner company that does the delivery, which is fine, but they should either not take orders that can't be filled or at least inform the customer that the order will not be delivered. read more

I've tried Rai's 3 times now, this time I ordered to go. I will say the cheesesteaks are always served hot and fresh with a good amount of whiz with just the right level of juiciness. My orders have always been correct and on time. That being said, it has never been anything out of this world. The bun could've been softer this go around, it was very crispy and hard on the edges. The meat itself didn't taste like anything spectacular, just your average cheese steak, was hoping for more flavor since it has great potential but just falls short. The potato chips that were served alongside the sub were a waste of space honestly and were stale/limp from being in the same box. Not that they will care but I have to say that I am very disappointed in Rai's pizza. We have ordered from there for the last few years and I always felt they had the best pizza around. But the last few times we have ordered there the food bas gone down. I know you cant be perfect all the time but if I am spending my hard earned money I expect it to be better than what happened last night. To begin I do not like the fact that now they require you to order 3 toppings. $2 for each is not going to break the bank but to force you to do it is really disrespectful. You cant even order a plain pizza. When my order was delivered, we didnt receive any communication or even a knock on the door or a ring of the bell. The food was cold upon delivery and to top off a great experience, the french fries were not cooked all the way through and the cheese on the pizza was not even melted all the way. Nothing like ordering food, waiting for an hour for delivery and then having to re-cook it so we could eat it. I am from New York so my standard for pizza is pretty high and I can count on one hand the pizza places in this area that meet the taste test. Rai's makes the cut and is one of two or three pizza places I will frequent when looking for that NY style pie. I ordered a breakfast pie from them and a cheesesteak, both items were hit out of the park! If you're a New Yorker looking for a good cheesesteak OR a New York style pizza this is your joint go and give them a shot, they are new so let's support them and make sure the food stays this good! Don't bother with their carryout/delivery service. Ordered on-line via the "Chow Hound" app... got my email receipt, ready at 8:14. Show up at 8:18... they don't have the order. It's been over 30-mins since order was placed and I have email receipt. Only after showing them the receipt - the order suddenly "shows up" in their system. "OH, it must be a system error." Wait another 20-mins for them to make the pizzas. In short, they're a bunch of kids who were screwing around and not paying attention to incoming orders. Called to complain and got some teenage girl who couldn't speak or understand English. Take your money elsewhere until they can figure out the basics of customer service!... There are literally dozens of pizza delivery places in the area. If you're going to suck at what you do .... you're not going to make it! read more

I suffered a lot when we left NY to move here. I missed the pizza. This place, was a random find. My original destination was just Sherwin Williams for a can of paint. I realized it was lunchtime and I was starving. I noticed when I drove in a small pizza shop (that you won't know is there, unless you know it's there or like me, happen upon it). Ordered 4 slices to go. Took less than 10 minutes I think and the staff was super awesome. They provided two slices in each little box and sent me on my way with little Parmesan packets and red pepper packets. I got home and let's just say my husband and I didn't say a word to one another. First, the sauce. IT HAS FLAVOR! Do you know what a concept this is?! The cheese. The GREASE. Yes, I capitalized that. If you're from NY, you know the grease I'm talking about. Dined in on a Sunday around 4pm. Got the smaller size balboa hot sub and the bigger size pepperoni pizza. Dear husband really enjoy the sub and I got a couple of bites too. Whiz was soooooo good (If you like salty and I do). I don't like mustard and didn't taste much mustard. Perhaps it was on the bottom, below the meat. The pizza was huge and piping hot. The first slice was crispy on the bottom just the way I like. The second slice wasn't crispy but oh well, it seems to be the norm when pizza sits on the pan after several minutes. The second slice, I could see the grease was pooling on top and dripping from the pizza as we ate. But that didn't stop me, lol. The sauce was perfect. Crust was chewy and thin. Water is bottled only. We got the sub first and wait didn't seem too long. Prices are a tad high but there are a lot to of mediocre pizza places out there. So price is fair for pizza that hits the spot. If we lived closer or worked nearby, I'd frequent for individual pizza slices. read more

Good pizza and good customer service! They have lots of options for toppings. Personally, l like getting ricotta and cheddar on my pizza (along with the normal mozzarella). One time they misread my order and sent out my pizza with ricotta and chicken on it. It was definitely not what I wanted. Not only did they give my money back, no argument, but I got a free dessert with my next order. The dessert wasn't something I was likely to try on my own (fried cheesecake), but it was really good. Ashburn location - Came in craving an authentic cheesesteak and got this. I have been to the location in Sterling, so I knew what I was "supposed" to get. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we ordered. Our food took well over 25 minutes to come out. People who came after us were confused about where to order, but they all left with their food before us. The cook "if that's what you would call her" was overwhelmed and undertrained. She said she didn't realize it was going to get busy. It was the beginning of the lunch rush with what looked like a camp scheduled lunch as well. Ordered the OG specialty pizza and wings. The pizza came with the spicy sauce and regular cheese only, none of the other toppings. Either the pizza or wings just gave me food poisoning because I didn't eat anything all day and was fine until eating the wings and some of the pizza. I tried the Rai's at the Ashburn Ice House for the first time this week. The restaurant is very nice and well decorated. There are stools so you can sit in front of the glass windows and watch the skaters on the ice while you eat if you're so inclined. The staff was very friendly and the place was clean. There are quite a few items on the menu that are still "coming soon" but I was there to try the pizza. I ate in and had a slice of cheese pizza. It was pretty expensive for one slice ($5) but the slice was huge! That one slice filled me up. I was extremely impressed with how good it was with it being a reheated slice of pizza that had been sitting out, which is what you get when you order pizza by the slice. I don't know how a ribeye cheesesteak sub could be so tasteless and dry. I even paid extra for mushrooms and peppers, all I got was peppers no mushrooms. I thought I would never say this, but the cheesesteak sub from my middle & elementary school cafeteria was much much better and authentic. Also they are so careless that they threw the cheese curds on top of the container with the marinara sauce. Which melted the container and put plastic on the cheese curds. As for Covid-19 precautions, there didn't seem to be any. No social distancing or mask. I'm very disappointed that I wasted/spent my money here. read more

Seeing a lot of hype being generated for Rai's, we decided to give it a try. And it was fantastic. We ordered online, and it took about an hour, but well worth the wait. The staff at the restaurant are very friendly and made sure I knew exactly when to expect the order. The pizza itself was the best NYC style pizza I've had in the area. Perfectly baked crust with a great, not too sweet sauce and perfectly melted cheese. The garlic bread sticks were a nice surprise. They are basically a small pie basted in garlic butter and addictive as crazy. We will definitely be back! read more

As I mention in many of my reviews of pizza places and Italian food, I'm a native NYer and I love good NY pizza and finding that in Northern VA has been a chore to say the least. In the past, I've liked Sal's Pizza in Ashburn (closed), and then Giovanni Pizza in Leesburg, which is hit or miss. Mostly, I drive to Centreville for Ciro's Pizza- a staple that is as close to NY pizza that I've had in VA...until now. We stopped by Rai's pizza today to give it a try based on the recommendation of a friend who is a trusted foodie. Well, I owe my friend a cold beer because Rai's was excellent! I actually could not believe that Rai's was actually slightly better than Ciro's, mostly because they know how to cook the pizza- both places have the correct and delicious cheese, both places do not drown their pizza in sauce, but Rai's cooked the pizza to perfection, crispy enough so that the pizza wasn't soggy and the crust gave the slighted cracking sound when I folded my slice. The sauce is good and overall, we voted 3-0 (later it became 4-0 when my daughter, who didn't come with us, ate the leftovers) in favor of Rai's. We will now be loyal customers who will visit at least once per week, probably more often over the summer when my son his home from college. We also ordered french fries and they were good, crispy and tasty. The service was excellent as all the employees seemed to really care that we liked the food and everyone was very nice. I spied a man eating a Philly cheesesteak and it looked like the real deal- having been to Philly many times and always downing one or two during each visit, I feel like I know a good cheesesteak when I see one. I asked the guy how it was and he said it was great, so I'll be trying one very soon. The menu is simple and I plan to run through the whole thing in the coming months. I think the only thing that hurts Rai's is the location- it's kind of hidden, but people will go anywhere if the food is right and it is, so I'm hoping to spread the word so that these good people can get the business they deserve. If I could make any suggestion, I think I would want them to offer a smaller version of their sandwiches- the one size/price is a bit much (12"/$16) for a sandwich and cheesesteaks and meatball heros (subs) aren't the type of sandwiches you can reheat later on. I'd offer a 9" version if I were Rai's- that would be perfect. Please don't lose your consistency, I know you will grow and add employees, but make sure everyone does things the way you are doing them now, because you're doing things right! I wish you the very best, Rai's- I know owning a restaurant at any time is tough, and in these times it's crazy, but once people find you, you will have all kinds of new business. I have not been to the Sterling Rai's but have been several times to the Rai's Ashburn in the Ice Skating building. They have the best Steak and Cheese around! My wife is from Philly and she knows Cheese steaks - the Rai's Cheese Steak blew her away! So much like a Good Philly Cheese Steak! The meatball sub was amazing too! The pizza is not good- the crust is dry and it was weird that the sauce was too salty yet- it was a dry and bland pizza. The worst pizza I've ever paid for. It was obviously not made fresh. A simple cheese pizza came as two halves from separately made pizzas that had been sitting under a heat lamp all day thrown together to make a full pie. and it tasted old and stale. The Caesar salad was good but overpriced for the size you get. I was disappointed after reading such good reviews. My husband pizza was way overdone. My husband asked him specifically if they season the chicken and the guy just nodded. The chicken was totally tasteless and dried out. The cost for one LARGE slice of cheese pizza was $5.00 + tax ($5.30) The cashier has great customer service.
