Easily the best cheesesteak I've had in the DMV area. Great seasoning, choice of whiz or melted cheese, bread was just the right texture and in my case I chose whiz which was also the best I've had in the area. Would be nice if online they allowed an option for "whiz on the side" - as the bread was mushy from my chosing takeout and the whiz compromising much of the bread. I also got pizza, which was ok but I wasn't overly impressed. The crust didn't hold up well for delivery, and the cheese wasn't bad but also not great. Will definitely get all my future cheesesteaks here at the least, and maybe in 2-3 months try the pizza again to see if they worked out the kinks! read more

After hearing about Rai's from the FB group 'Northern Virginia Foodies'...I was finally in the area and able to grab a pizza for lunch! It most certainly did not disappoint. The smell, taste, crust, sauce, and fresh tomato, mozzarella, and basil it was delicious. Simply put there is no other way to describe it. A sad review. This place used to be good, now it's not. I ordered over the phone and was told the pizza and wings would be ready in 20-25 minutes. I'm there in 15 and waiting. It doesn't come out until 50 minutes and when I get it the pizza is cold, soooo who knows. The prices on the menu and the website are different and I was overcharged for everything. When I brought it to the attention of the lady working the register and asked if the menu was correct she said it was, but then I showed her the prices on the menu being higher than my receipt she said it wasn't. SMH. The place looks super tight and junky since they added this Pour House bar side. Nobody cares about the customer experience, customer service is non-existent. If a customer shows you that the advertised price is lower than what he or she is being charged, the server needs to get the price adjusted, but the people working there don't care and are probably not imbued with the authority to do so and probably don't even understand that they should do that to make a customer happy. There are just too many restaurants around to tolerate terrible customer service. I'll just go somewhere else. read more

Finally got to try Rai's Pizza tonight for dinner! I put the order through their online ordering system and was able to choose my pickup time. Everything was ready and good to go by the time I arrived. We tried the Margarita Pizza and Cheesesteaks (one with provolone and one with whiz). Went to Rai's for the first time today after hearing so much hype for their cheesesteak. I was skeptical but hopeful and man, I wasn't disappointed. Great pizza. They have the best pizza in the area, in my opinion. I was born and raised in New York and I am a bit picky when it comes to pizza and I've been disappointed by nearly every pizza joint I've visited in NoVA. Their crust is exceptional. Crisp and thin, just how it should be. I've also had their meatball parmigiana hero, which is amazing. If they'd stop using the veal patties and use real cutlets in their veal parm heroes, I'd be in my glory. All in all: A great spot for good pizza and sandwiches. read more

As a big fan of Sully's Pour House in Herndon (trash can nachos are to die for!), I was anxiously awaiting Rai's pizza, under the same ownership. Little did I know that my excitement was shared by just about everyone in the greater DC area! I met a friend for lunch on a wet and cold day, and the place was packed. Still, our orders were taken quickly & we were able to find a seat. I would say it was less than 20 minutes before we had our piping hot pizza- and listen, the hype was all true! I do not like a greasy pizza, and this one was perfect. Not a bit of grease on the bottom of the crust, just perfect, beautiful crispy chewy goodness. Cheese was fabulous and all in all, just like a NYC pizza! I will be going back for a cheesesteak which are garnering heaps of praise on foodie pages! read more

Ordered a Togo order but chose to come in and have a drink as well tonight. When walking in, tvs were still going on from after the nfl game, weird situation walking in hearing the lamentable local news and that stayed in the entirety of the 15 minutes of sitting at the bar until leaving. We told the female bartender, after waiting over 3 minutes to be acknowledged, even 2 seats down, we had a pickup order and she yelled to the male bartender "yo, did you get an order for xxx" he said no she said "i guess you have to go over to the other side you didn't call this side". My BF then asked if he could transfer over the payment so we didn't have to walk back over because we were getting drinks as well. She proceeded to make jokes that were very sarcastic and not in a cute bartender way, they felt rushed and like we were being talked down to. She ran his card said "are you sure this one is gonna work" dropped the check for the drinks then proceeded to walk to the end of the bar and eat fries with whoever was sitting at the first bar seat. We had to call the male bartender over to run our payment because well where did she go? All in all it was an unsettling experience and we should've just got the food and dipped instead of supporting the bar business as well. Welp. read more

They are small business so they have to utilize third party delivery services. The problem is, these drivers for these various apps aren't vetted we'll enough. Rais is small. Its main focus is not for you to sit around in their restaurant and get waited on hand and foot. I think there were 4 tables total in the restaurant. It's obviously geared toward takeout. What I really like are the subs. Holy Philly! Their cheesesteak beats anything Philly has to offer, which is nothing to scoff at. This restaurant has also gotten a cult-like following on NOVA Foodies of Facebook Fame. It's just... delicious. The Rib-eye steak for the sub makes ones mouth water and the cheese whether it's provologne or "whiz" (why people like this on a sub I still don't get) they definitely deliver. Oh, and their pizza. Probably the best NY pizza out there that isn't an automatic foldable grease trough. The crust is crisp and flakey while their toppings are the best quality. Best pizza I've had in a long time. Cheese and pepperoni. They don't skimp on the cheese or pepperoni. The crust was perfectly cooked underneath. Nice and puffy on the ends, with a little chew to it. So many places now have completely flat pizza crust all the way to the end, so I was very pleasantly surprised that they make it the way I like. We also tried the cheesesteak which was tasty and had a good portion of meat. We got it with provolone (not fans of cheese whiz). Their other subs looked good too. I decided to try this place out since my coworker was raving about how good the cheesesteaks are here. I ordered a 12" cheesesteak with onions and whiz, onion rings, and a slice of pizza to go. When i got home, i found the bag had a pool of juice from the cheesesteak. Opened up the sub first since I was eager to try it out. Bread was a bit soggy but ok. Unfortunately, all the whiz looked to be on the aluminum foil instead of in the sub. Not sure its a good idea to put cheese whiz on the top of the sandwich if you're going to wrap aluminum foil around it. Might be a better idea to put the whiz down first inside the bread if its a takeout order. All that aside, took my first bite into the sandwich and it was ok. There was plenty of meat inside the sandwich as others have mentioned. The quality of the meat looked good but it seems my sandwich was overly seasoned as it was just too salty. The onion rings were nice and crispy and had an included sauce to dip in. The pizza was ok but I'm guessing the steak is their main thing. Maybe the cooks just had an off night but the cheesesteak wasn't quite as good as I was expecting. Not sure if I'll be back as I wasn't impressed with the cheesesteak or the pizza. read more

Had to try this new place and wow was it good. We got a few things to try, the cheesesteak was great! Lots of meat and it's big. The pizza eggrolls were fun finger food, going to get a pizza next time as it looked legit NY style. The fries were crispy and again a lot in an order. I have found my new go to place. I am a big time pizza lover, I'll only eat pizza when I go to New York. Pizza in the dmv area isn't that great and yes I have tried most pizza places from papa John's to il canale in DC. I haven't had a pizza in a long long time and was very spectacle about this place. We ordered the el Diablo and my god... it was absolutely, unbelievably, heavenly delicious. It was nice and crispy, the sauce was not to spicy yet you can still taste the tomatoes which were sweet and savory, the sausage was absolutely incredible, and the jalapeños were a nice touch, the crust was crispy yet had a good chew to it. The bottom of the pizza had a nice char to it as well. The pizza itself was huge definitely like a New York slice. I have no picture as we devoured the pizza so fast but I would definitely come back. I'll be coming back his Sunday actually haha. The cheesesteak with everything on it was by far the best cheesesteak I've had in a while. I usually compare the cheesesteak here to the ones I've had in Philly as I mean come on now, Philly has the best cheesesteaks, but now I'm not to sure. The meat had flavor, the mushroom and peppers were nicely seasons, the cheese wiz was amazing, and to make it even a better cheesesteak they put tomato's on top. Like whole slices. TLDR;This place is DISGUSTING! I heard a lot from the "NOVA Foodies" facebook group, but they don't seem truthful. You are better off going to Wegman's and spending $12 on a large sub with double meat. Rather than spending $16 on this garbage "ribeye cheese-steak" sub. I decided to give them a shot since they are so close to my house. I ordered the cheese-steak sub as so many people recommended. I could not be more disappointed by my order. Here are my issues: 1. The "ribeye" meat filling had a strong stench to it. I smelled so bad, that not even the cheese whiz could cover it up. Maybe they tried to dry age their filling and the fridge broke? Regardless it was disgusting, and didn't feel safe to consume. My cat's cat food smells better than this! 2. So many people boast about there being so much meat filling in their sub that it would be overflowing. But both the ends of my sub had NO MEAT at all. When I bit into it, IT WAS ALL BREAD! I paid $16 for this garbage! 3. The onions were cut in such careless fashion there was a whole half onion layer in my sub. I understand that slicing onion is not everyone's favorite thing. If you need help just buy a food processor from Costco or anywhere else and it will give you uniform onion slices. 4. Normally wherever I order a sub they take the courtesy of cutting the sub in half. At this place, the sub wasn't cut at all. I don't know if their knives were broken, or too dull to cut a sandwich but mine wasn't cut in any way, shape or form. Sure this seems like a minute issue but this makes eating a sub much more difficult. I can not open my mouth like hippo to swallow the whole sub all at once. 5. There's hardly any COVID precautions. The cashier was wearing a face covering, but the people who are actually preparing and packaging the food are not! If one of the cook & prepare personnel is sick with COVID, they could spread it to the customer! Nor is there any sign on the door to wear a mask. C'mon man, we have been in the pandemic for a 9+ months, its not that hard to take these precautions! I know this is along review, but charging $16 for not even a subpar sub is highway robbery. read more

Ordered pizza and cheese steak. Pizza was really good and one of the better in the area. Cheese steak was also amazing. However prices are little high. It's Ny style pizza not eating pizza in NY. Cheese steak for $16 and a cheese pizza for $14 is little too high. I would eat here again but due to price not as much. While most places I would of paid 10-12 for steak and 10-11 for pizza. Drove out here to check out the rave about the Cheesesteak. I see that there is a Rai's pour house connected so I thought why not get a beer too. I asked the bartender to be sure the cheesesteak was the same even though I can tell they share a kitchen. I was shocked to see a 7" cheesesteak when they charge basically the same price for the 12" at Rai's pizza. I asked about this and was told the profit margins were different. There is no mention about the size of the cheesesteak on the menu so I shouldn't have assumed I would get a comparable cheesesteak. Oh well a learning experience that will keep me away from Rai's in the future well at least ordering food from the pour house side. read more

Ordered here 3 times now. Pies have been great each time. It's not always easy to get a thin crust that's not over cooked. They have managed to have a near perfect crust each time. Meat quality and flavor is great. Flavor is good. Seasonings have been pretty consistent and not overdone. Just got our carry out, was excited to try their sandwiches since we heard rave reviews ..... very disappointed. The Badass Italian that was ordered was done incorrectly, it was supposed to have pepperoni, capicola, salami, ham, provolone, lettuce, tomato, red onion, deli dressing, pepper relish and oregano and we added sweet peppers. What we got did not have red onion, pepper relish, oregano, or sweet peppers. Second sandwich was the cheesesteak which had everything on it and added mushroom and peppers. However, I believe if my expectations weren't so high, I would've like it more maybe.
