Great place for a special occasion steak. The valet parking either adds to that experience or feels like an additional cost, but the food quality and ambiance is top notch, so not having parking is the trade off. The service was prompt and the server answered all of our questions about the menu. The bread was soft little salty rolls. Some of our party split the tomahawk which was massive, cooked to perfection, and very juicy. I got the lamb chops which were superb and so meaty. The polenta/broccoli rabe didn't really add much. For sides, the creamed spinach was more cheesy than creamy, but if you like cheese, it works. The parmesan truffle fries were likewise very cheesy and a great blend of salty and crunchy. The mac n cheese was good, but the lobster pieces were smallish. We did go overboard with the cheese sides, but they went so well with the main dishes. Dessert seemed like a must. We shared the apple cider donut bread pudding, which was very unique and blended the cold ice cream with the hot apple, dense pudding. We also had to try the 10 layer chocolate cake and the sheer size is amazing, but it was also richly chocolate flavor. The more unique dish and classic dish were both winners, and I couldn't even choose a favorite Everyone had a good time, the dishes were all amazing, and it's worth the splurge to celebrate yourself or a loved one.
Went to dine here to celebrate a birthday, the location is very nice, clean rustic look. They have complimentary valet parking which is plus! Our server was pretty nice, just service was a bit slow. We were a party of 8, the pictures I had included were most of the parties meals. I would say everyone was happy with their dinner selections, no complaints, pretty average for the main courses. We ordered calamari and crab cakes for appetizers and those were actually very delicious. Dessert and cocktails were pretty solid as well. I would come back!
Stopped in for a quick bite at the bar. The atmosphere is super cool and modern. There's a speakeasy in the basement and private room. The Red and Black Manhattan was fantastic. It's a twist on a traditional Manhattan by using Amaro Nonino instead of sweet vermouth. Crab cocktail was great with Old Bay Mayo and a vodka spiked cocktail sauce. Shrimp were huge and super fresh. The heated rolls are a great touch (they're heated in their pizza oven then brushed with warm butter and topped with sea salt). The American Wagyu beef burger was bigger than expected, the bacon jam was spot on and very unique, super tasty. The lobster Mac-n-Cheese was loaded with huge chunks of lobster. Super creamy and cheesy, just delicious.
Went to this restaurant a while ago, definitely more than a year ago! I would definitely recommend it. The steak was delicious. The thick cut bacon was very good and I would highly recommend it. Service was on point. Also, I chose this place because obviously it was on the Real housewives of New Jersey lol it's been on the show multiple times and I was curious to see the inside. It Looks like a chalet but also looks like a cave and it's dark and there's a fire pit. It's really a beautiful place.
Rails is one of my favorite steakhouses in the area. The food is always excellent, the vibes are on point and they have a great cocktail list. The portions are typically a good size to being leftovers home. We typically only stop in for birthday dinners / special occasions, etc, but came on Sunday because we didn't want to cook. During this visit, we started with the crab cocktail and the mussels which was a special for the day. I was hesitant to get the mussels because I usually like them cooked in white wine and the tomatoes sounded odd to me, but this was delightful! The tomatoes, peppers and bacon all brought such a great flavor to the dish. Can't forget the complimentary bread that they bring out! Two golden buttery biscuit pieces of goodness! For dinner, we had the filet Mignon which was cooked to perfection along with a side of mashed potatoes. We also had the butter cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Everything we ordered came out delicious. Service was fast and attentive. Thank you Shannon!
We drove 45 minutes to try this steakhouse. I have to say it was so worth it! The service was impressive we had 2 waiters making sure we were comfortable and that we had everything we needed. The steaks were delicious fine cut! We had an abundance of appetizers and they were all delicious. We had a few bottles of wine. The ambiance is chill and the restaurant is beautiful so much to look at. I will definitely be back!
We have been here before but this particular time was AMAZING, we sat downstairs which was new for us, it was decorated so beautiful for the holidays and our waiter was really nice. All of the apps, drinks, food, sides and desserts were all so so good! Can't wait to go back!
Food was delicious. We weren't served at the beginning for a little bit, but the steaks were served to perfection. We got the mac and cheese and spinach for sides. And even got a take home anniversary slice of butter cake -spectacular Ambiance is cozy, classic vibes. Service was slow at first but then quick once we sat. Well Rails is no short trip for me, i am in Queens, New York and this beautiful delight lies in Tocowa, New Jersey. The first comment ill make, worth every mile!!!! The place is absolutely beautiful inside, warm and rustic with a touch of country mixed with modern design. The workers are extremely welcoming and full of smiles. They gave a wonderful booth for my wifes birthday and the waitstaff did an excellent job explaining the specials. I did ask for a draft New Jersey cityscape IPA and it was absolutely perfect tasting. The food is nothing less than superb. Cooked to perfection, from wagyu slider to T bone steaks and chicken parm (i come from a neighborhood of top notch Italian food and Rails still hits the mark). This place looks like in the summer it has beautiful outdoor spaces fitted out with heater and fire places. An outdoor bar area with lounge seating ready for my next visit. Rails.... Thank you for the hospitality i can not wait to return.
The ambience and the food was great. I must admit that part. Have heard so many things from this place so I had to try it of course we got there five minutes late because of traffic, but everything was good. The only thing I have to pick on was probably my waitress as she was not attentive to us whatsoever, but was more attentive to other parties of diff color should I say the least. Not sure if it was because I didn't fit the description of the other people or what but her service was not great whatsoever. The hostess as well made a comment to me that as soon as my partner takes off his hat, we can be seated. I found it a bit odd as we just walked in and it was freezing cold outside, so of course he had a hat on. But he took it off right away. We will try it again, another time and see what happens.
Rails has been on our " places to try " list for a while. It met our expectations. The staff is super attentive, starting with the host, down to the servers. Great service ! My husband had a tomahawk, it was made to perfection. I had a sirloin which was amazing. They have a large selection of sides compared to other places and this I loved. We ordered fried calamari, truffle fries and these lobster cakes. For dessert we shared a pecan cheesecake which was perfect for two. I've seen the slices for carrot cake, and it's enough to feed a party or 4 lol. Overall great experience and will visit again
I haven't been to Rails in way too long. Everything here is amazing. It's a top notch dining experience from start to finish. You probably cannot go wrong with anything that you order. Not to mention the space is gorgeous and the service is on point. We started off with crab cakes and bacon. Crab cakes are small, but this is to be expected. Every bite was decadent. Bacon with peanut butter sauce and jalapeno jelly is unreal. This is a must-order. For my main I went with skirt steak which is my favorite cut. It was cooked perfectly and the chimichurri was so flavorful. We shared the hashbrowns which are sooo good and the brussels which were just ok. These were actually much blander than expected. Luckily everything else was so good that it made up for it. Can't wait to return!
My first visit to Rails Steakhouse definitely will not be my last! This steakhouse delivers in ambiance, service, and delicious food. There's so many options for seating from the bar to a speakeasy, and standard dining. The service is exceptional as is the food. My table ordered a few of pasta appetizers. We enjoyed the lobster mac and cheese, short rib gnocchi special, porcini gnocchi, and fried calamari. All were terrific! Most of us ordered the petite filet mignon and tried different sides including mashed potatoes, spinach, and brussel sprouts. The filet mignon was cooked to our liking and very tender. We ended our meal with two giant slices of cake. The carrot cake was out of this world. They gave us a blueberry butter pound cake with a birthday candle to help us celebrate as well. It was a sweet way to end our meal.

This place definitely deserves 5 stars. Awesome steakhouse. The ambiance was great. The ceasar salad was one of the best I ever had, and the oysters were excellent. We had the dry aged porterhouse for two and it was perfectly aged. Would absolutely return. read more
Came here for a bridal shower. Food was good. This was the first time I had couscous and I was obsessed with it. That mixed with the yogurt sauce was amazing! I want to come back just for this dish. Chicken was moist, too which was an added plus. Service was great and I really enjoyed the ambiance. Added plus, they have a hidden speakeasy on the bottom level. If you're someone who cares about bathrooms, those were clean, too! read more
I'm finally writing a review for Rails on my anniversary. I got married Dec. 21 for a winter solstice wedding in the wine cave behind the speakeasy. I'd eaten here a couple of times before deciding this is where I say "I do" and the staff made sure my evening was definitely magical. Of course, the meal with my small gathering of friends and family was incredible. Steak, seafood, croquettes, sides, loaaads of wine, cute desserts and a gorgeous wine cave made for a memorable event! Thank you Rails!!! read more

Food and service could not have been better. We were celebrating my wife's half century birthday. Officially very vintage .. The seafood tower was amazing. We asked to swap clams to oysters. Plenty of lobster, crab, and shrimp to share. The aged steaks were just as good as the top rated NYC steak houses. Without the traffic and parking hassle. Glad we finally tried it out, we'll definitely be back. read more
My work friends and I celebrated our last day of school last evening at Rails and we were blown away! We started off at the speak easy and were greeted by our wonderful waitress, Carolynn! Her upbeat, personable (yet professional) personality added to our experience! The entire establishment makes you feel like you are important because they take your needs into consideration. The food was fresh & quite incredible. Specifically the short rib gnocchis and the clams! We were given a special tour of the "cave" room and once again... we were blown away! We ended our night on the second level, where we sat outside and sipped our delicious drinks! I highly recommend Rails for a date night, a little pick me up or even an event-- you can't go wrong! read more

This was our first time at Rails. We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary, which just happens to also be New Years Day. This place is so cozy. I love all the wood and stone. It was busy, but our server and the bussing people were attentive. They have an incredible wine/drink list. I watched another table receive a bottle of red wine. They pour it into a decanter - I love that. My glasses of wine were delicious and my husband loved his Manhattans. We received our drinks and food at a good pace. The buttered bread they bring out is amazing. Almost like a cross between biscuits and a roll. The tuna tartare has a little kick to it. It was well presented and tasted delicious. The steaks were very good. Seasoned well, but the cooking seemed inconsistent. Mine was cooked perfectly where my husband said his was a little overdone in the center. The side portions are actually very substantial and they were well made. We ordered dessert drinks and their 10 layer cake. The slice was huge! The power went out as we were finishing up our meal. It wasn't out for too long, but the manager stopped by every table and the servers were checking in on everyone. Our server comped our slice of cake because of the inconvenience. Overall, you can't go wrong with a trip to Rails. It's the perfect place to celebrate anything. I just wish they offered vallet because it was super cold out and we had to park at the end of the gravel lot. read more

Rails Steakhouse now there's a place that looks like it stepped right out of some elegant dream where the decor whispers "class" without shouting it from the rooftops. Our server, Janelle, was nothing short of fantastic the kind of professional who anticipates your every need with a smile that could light up the whole dining room. She made the evening flow like a well-oiled machine, all charm and efficiency. We kicked things off with the Rails Platter: three jumbo shrimp, six clams, six oysters, half a chilled lobster, and that colossal crab meat. Great doesn't even cover it it was a seafood symphony, each bite fresher than the last, like the ocean decided to throw a party in your mouth. Then came the Nueske's Applewood Smoked Bacon with peanut butter and jalapeno jelly. Now, I'm not entirely sure if it was straight peanut butter, what with those delightful chunks of peanuts whatever it was, it stole the show. Absolutely delicious, probably my favorite dish of the night a bold, unexpected flavor combo that had me grinning like I'd discovered a new food group. The French Onion Soup followed, and it was good in that classic, comforting way rich broth, melty cheese. For the main event, the 28 Day Dry Aged Porterhouse for Two was very fairly priced and downright delicious, cooked to perfection with that deep, savory tenderness that makes you appreciate the art of steak. We added the Sauteed Mushrooms with Truffle Butter, which was perfectly okay no, better than that, a solid side that complemented everything without stealing the spotlight, adding just the right earthy note. And let's not forget the drinks, because they elevated the whole evening to another level of delight. The Spiked Arnold Palmer was awesome. A refreshing twist on a classic that hit all the right notes. I was double-fisting it with whichever cider you have on tap - forgot the name, but it was crisp, flavorful perfection that paired beautifully and kept the good times rolling. My girlfriend got the Prosecco, which she loved so much she couldn't stop raving about the Prosecco . She was saying that she thought it was from a tap because it was so fresh what kind of sorcery is that? Pure magic in a glass, that's what. After that, she got a dirty martini, which she also enjoyed very much - smooth, sophisticated, and just the right amount of briny elegance to cap off her sips. Overall, a very solid experience that left me eager to return. Definite four stars - Rails Steakhouse, you've got it all figured out in the most wonderful way. read more
Always wanted to go here and so glad I finally did. The experience was incredible. To the service, the food and much more it was a night to remember. Our waiter was so attentive and extremely friendly and our food was absolutely delicious. The timing in between courses was faster than expected but in the end it was worth it. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. We also were showed the speakeasy and it was such a cool place. The bartenders were awesome and friendly and the drinks were awesome as well. I can't say enough good things about rails. We will 100% be back and can't wait to bring our friends and family too! read more

Beautiful steakhouse with attentive staff. Our server did change before we were able to place our orders. Maybe shift change? The ribeye I ordered was good, but the dessert was outstanding. Let's start and end there, the peach bread pudding delightfully danced on my tastebuds. It had the perfect consistency, not mushy but far from dry. If we did not already close down the restaurant, I would have ordered two to go. One to share and one to keep the party going for myself. I ordered the Brussels sprouts as my appetizer which was not much of a hit. It was initially burnt beyond the point of charred. When the new batch hit the table, they had a very tough texture, almost raw. Regardless, we sent it back for good. The dessert as well as our server's personality and overall professionalism definitely saved the night. I truly believe this restaurant deserves more than three stars, hence the four given, and look forward to returning to give it another shot. read more

I've been visiting Rails Steakhouse for years and recently stopped in for a friend's birthday dinner on a Saturday evening at 8:30pm. The restaurant was packed and the vibe was great. There are three levels to this romantic steakhouse nestled in Towaco just next door to the train station. Keep in mind, on the weekends, they usually have complimentary valet service, which is nice. Upon entry, you're greeted by their friendly hostess and the main level of the restaurant, with a bar on the side. The upstairs level is another dining area with bar and that's where we were seated. The lower level of this restaurant and their speakeasy, Thirty3, is the best part part about this place; check out my review on this MUST visit well kept secret in NJ. Our party of 12 ordered some drinks by the bar while we waited for our table. We were then seated and promptly brought over menus. The general manager Mike, came over to greet us and apologized for the long wait and as a courtesy offered us complimentary pizzas. I thought this was a nice touch, and made us all feel valued as guests. Our server was equally as accommodating and patient with our entire party, offering his recommendations and thoughts on the menu items. None of which disappointed. I ordered a bottle of wine which wasn't terribly priced and quite delicious as it paired nicely with the lamb chops that I ordered for dinner. Everyone else at the table seemed very pleased with their entrees as there was a moment of complete silence as everyone enjoyed their meal LOL...(usually a good sign). At the end of the meal, the staff came out with assorted desserts and sang well wishes to the birthday boy. Overall, if you are looking for a dining option for a special occasion, date night or a delicious meal, Rails Steakhouse is a MUST try. Conveniently located with good service, romantic vibe and delicious bites, you won't be disappointed. Love this place but unfortunately now not in favor of it. They served my boyfriend a bad lobster which made him sick all night. The lobster was brown and green on the inside. The claws almost had feta cheese look like stuff on it and he said it tasted terrible. Then come to find out we got home and was sick all night. That fact that a restaurant would serve us a bad lobster did not deserve the price we paid. read more
Delicious food, nice atmosphere and great wait staff. Be prepared to spend some money, but you won't be disappointed. What is that they say, money well spent. They have valet parking in case you don't find any spots on the street, and you can also park across the RR tracks. Will definitely stop by again. read more

Overall, I recommend for the amazing ambiance! Definitely check out the hidden speakeasy bar downstairs. The staff was very nice, especially considering they were swamped setting up for events the next day. The food: overall yummy, but for some dishes, the elements were good individually, but did not all work together. Grilled octopus- good, but the tiniest bit tough. I actually most enjoyed the bean and tomato salad that came with it was shockingly good! And I don't really like beans, so that was impressive! Chilean Sea Bass- good, but the fish was totally overpowered by the creamy leaks and romesco sauce. All was delicious separately, but they didn't work together for me. Cauliflower side- good, but the cauliflower needed to be cooked more. I did like the capers in it for some tang. Filet mignon - YUM!! I had a tender bite of my boyfriend's and it was divine! Cooked perfectly, nicely seasoned, and loads of flavor. Carrot cake- a huge slice!! Love the value. It was good, but not as exciting as I'd hoped. Chocolate cake- another huge slice! Love that value. It was lighter than it looks which is good, but not that exciting for more than a few bites. Tiramisu- loved this non traditional take on it. The dark chocolate dome with creamy filling was delicious! However the crumbled biscotti underneath looked pretty on the plate, but had no crunch and seemed totally soggy and tasteless. Bourbon cheesecake- grabbed a bite from someone's plate and it was delicious!! I should have ordered this! Overall: I would go back for sure and get the filet mignon and cheesecake! read more

The service was excellent, the ambiance was modern steak house. The food was excellent but expect high prices. I had the NY strip which was cooked perfectly. My brother had the T-bone, it was perfection. We all apps. From crab cocktail to ceviche to meatballs. All excellent. The side dishes included hash, brown potatoes, cream, spinach, and lobster mac & cheese. All were great and in abundance. Our bellies were full, but then here comes the desserts. The deserts were huge cakes. It was my sister's birthday and she had the chocolate cake. 10 layers. I had the carrot cake, delicious. Extreme nutmeg and cinnamon. Mmmm. And my brother had the butter cake. Absolutely fantastic. Wonderful experience. We talked for hours on a Thursday night. read more

If you want steak done right, then look no further than Rails Steakhouse in Towaco, NJ. We've been here numerous times and never had a bad meal. In fact, I would venture to say that Rails Steakhouse is one of the best steakhouses I've ever been to. We split the 46oz steak for two; which is totally worth it and even had plenty to bring home. While the prices are higher than most other establishments, you're paying for a great foodie experience, wonderful staff service, pristine & clean facility, and a fun atmosphere for a great night out. Don't forget to check out the speakeasy for an extra bit of fun. The mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, and creamed spinach side dishes are out of this world and a perfect combination for your dinner. Don't forget to leave room for their seven layer chocolate cake which is literally larger than my head. Yum! read more

Food was absolutely delicious at Rails. I definitely think it will be a lot nicer when I visit in the summer, but overall, a good experience. A little pricey for what it was, but everything was good so I'm not complaining too much. Out server was amazing and helpful. read more

Came here for date night prices were reasonable for a steakhouse atmosphere was amazing. Food was phenomenal and after dinner manager gave us a tour and the secret downstairs... Recommend for special occasions or a nice dinner. read more

Incredibly mediocre. Came in alone and sat at the bar on a Saturday night. Old fashioned was terrible. Food didn't make up for it. French Onion soup was decent. NY strip medium rare was maybe medium if not medium +. It was also flavorless. Spinach was wilted and had awful color and taste. Unsure what the appeal of this place is other than it's filled with North NJ $$. Pass. read more
Nice steak house with great customer service. All of the steak house classics one would expect as well as specials. The strip steak was prepared to the perfect temperature as were the filets. Will definitely be back when in the area. read more
