The food wasn't overly sensational. The people who work here are very kind and courteous to the customers. I'm willing to go back to try the chicken fried steak. I saw it served out to another table, the steak itself covered the whole plate. I'm hoping to like this place more. I will have to say the kitchen service seemed a little slow, but they got the food on the table as soon as it was up in the window. Hope it just the new factor, and they improve. read more

We had such high hopes for this little place. We walked in at a few minutes before 7, not realizing they closed at 7. We came in behind the hostess stand, no sign with hours on that door. We were seated by a server/hostess, nobody mentioned they were closing. We figured that out as we overheard conversations and saw the evening clean up begin. We ordered. Got our drinks and this is when we realized they were closed. We told the waitress we wanted to take our food to go. Who wants to try a new place when its being cleaned up and people are wanting to leave for the day? The waitress mentions to my adult son that she added ranch to his sandwich "because it doesn't taste too good without it". What? Got our food & went home. 10 min drive. The french fries looked like a bag of grease soaked worms. Tasted awful. My hamburger was so overcooked i couldn't eat it. It was dry as a bone. The chicken sandwich was swimming in ranch dressing, which my son did not order, lol. Between the bad food and price, it wont be worth trying again, sadly. I really enjoyed my meal at the Railway Express Diner. They serve home style meals like Mom used to make. The service was great so it was an all around good experience. I noticed the glass in the window between the dining room and the kitchen. You could tell by the waviness of it that it was really old original glass. I recommend this restaurant. read more

The service was unbeatable in this little place. I often google to find new restaurants and then hope for the best. This was a home run. The menu is a bit eclectic with something for everyone. The boudin balls were spot on. The cheese curds were quite tasty too. The burger was way more than I could eat. I had it with pineapple and also the fresh cut fries. My only complaints were the portable A/C could have been cooler(77 degrees), bigger drinking glasses and was expecting more railroad mementos. Overall I would return. Definitely a place for two ladies to split a burger. Wonderful large cheeseburger with especially great French fries. The decor was simple and definitely train related, very comfortable chairs with the most beautiful old wood floor. Our waitress attentive and friendly. Today 17 ladies gathered to eat at Railway Express for the first time. We expected the wait time to be late but was surprised that it was not. Our wait staff had so much knowledge about the menu and the sights around the old Railroad cars. The food was delicious and I did not hear a complaint from any of the ladies.
