I love this place, huge portions and absolutely delicious. I typically order the Gyro Sandwich, no fries needed because it's so big. The pizzas are absolutely loaded with toppings, even a single small slice might fill you up. And workers are friendly, it's clearly a well-run family restaurant. Whereas the Greek lady is tops: both efficient and professional. #4 Pizza, with sausage, cheese, pepperoni is meant for massive comfort food eaters; each piece must have been almost two inches thick. Me and my friend could each eat 1 and 1/2 pieces; each piece must weigh a good 8 ounces. With lot's of topping and a medium crust this pizza is all about comfort food and all over the place in taste. We ordered the 12 inch pizza; it was enough to feed five hungry eaters. The Haikopopos Greek salad was very good sized and good tasting. I recently dined here and was quite pleased with the extensive menu. I ended up choosing their burger which came on sourdough bread which I am not accustom to, but did enjoy. The service here was extremely friendly and kind, and the ambiance was quite nice too. There were a lot of posters and pictures about Greece. read more

Can never go wrong with Rainbow Pizza - Eclectic menu with a mix of Italian and Greek items. Such a large (literally) menu with so many items to choose from. I've never been disappointed with whatever I've ordered here, but my go-to is the Greek Isle salad (half) and the Bay Shrimp sandwich which is plenty to share between two people. Really wanted pineapple ham pizza and wanted to try a new place - kid randomly said how about Rainbow Pizza - I nds of a few of us ha d heard that they were good. Pizza and Greek food - almost ordered Greek food since we are missing Greece since vaca but no I ordered ham and pineapple, husband ordered a combination - we ordered delivery - feeling lazy - ordered and waited - supposedly 45 minutes but the pizza arrived piping hot in 30 minutes - driver rang the doorbell thank goodness - some don't! Cold food! - the pizza was thick and the dough was flavorful, and my pineapple ham was exactly what I wanted. I also tried the combo and thought it tasted pretty good as well. Both tasted a little salty but not outrageous. So much pineapple - I was pleasantly surprised - fantastic! Next time I want to try the Greek pizza! This pizza hit the spot (and rubbed it out!) definitely would eat again - maybe eat at the restaurant next time. In their Greek style, Rainbow Pizza makes excellent Mediterranean food as well as one of the best, if not the best pizza in the Bay Area. I know that is a huge claim, but the food is awesome. Walking inside the restaurant, you'll notice right away that a lot of thought was put into the painted art on the walls, the statues, and photos of the Mediterranean. No reading glasses needed for their menu, it's the size of 36 inch flat screen tv. I usually comment in my Yelp reviews regarding service, whether it's friendly or helpful. Well the waitress here is all that and more. She was so helpful and provides such excellent service, that it was above and beyond. She deserves a raise. All that being said we ordered: Gyro and Fries: this was a full meal by itself. The meat, onions with the tzatziki sauce was delicious. The fries are steak fries, which were good as well. X-Large Sausage, Pepperoni, Mushroom: the reason for my claim of Rainbow making the best pizza is the quality, quantity, and the ratio of pizza crust, cheese, sauce, and toppings. Everything is well balanced and in true Greek style it comes big. My Big Fat Greek Pizza. It tastes amazing, like a cross between deep dish and old school pizza parlor utility pizza. Super fun restaurant to eat at! The indoor decorations and paintings make you feel like you're on vacation in Europe. My party of 4 chose to sit outside where they set up tents. We ordered the calamari and Caesar salad as appetizers, 2 pastas, and 1 Hawaiian pizza. It was PLENTY for 4 people. They give complimentary garlic bread as well which is always so crispy and delicious. The calamari can be a hit or miss - I've come multiple times and sometimes there's more squid and sometimes there's more fried batter than squid. Caesar salad was pretty standard, Hawaiian pizza came SUPER cheesy, and the pasta dishes were pretty good. Overall it's a fun experience to eat here and service is great. Last week, after a mid-week meeting, a buddy recommended we grab a late lunch at his favorite local pizza place. I was game to try a restaurant I have never visited, so we drove over to Rainbow Pizza. I'm glad we did. The restaurant has a homey neighborhood pizzeria feel... welcoming. Dolores met and seated us... she is a delight. I was feeling good about Rainbow even before we ordered. The menu offers a lot more than you would ordinarily expect at a pizza restaurant. It features lots of salads, some Greek dishes, pasta galore, and of course... pizza. We ordered a medium sausage and mushroom pizza. There is lots of cheese on Rainbow's pizzas. After a couple of bites, I realized there were no mushrooms hiding under the cheese. We were eating a sausage and pepperoni pizza. It was scrumptious. We devoured two slices each before asking Dolores to box up two pieces for each of us. I am looking forward to taking my son to Rainbow Pizza. This little gem is located off 92 near 280 in the hills of San Mateo. Me and my elderly relatives went to check it out after Saturday's Farmers Market at CSM - so the location was perfect. The proportions are huge. We ordered a small personal pizza (#2) which is 8" in diameter and piled with meats, cheese and veggies. My mom and her sister split it, and took a quarter section home with them. I had the chicken cheesesteak sandwich which comes on Dutch crunch roll with soup, salad, or fries. The salad - I picked the Greek salad - was large so easily shared with my mom and aunt. The staff was warm, friendly and efficient. After a great walk at Crystal Springs Reservoir, we were ready for some grub. I remembered Rainbow Pizza's greek pizza when I was 3 years old when my dad used to take me there when he had meetings. A long time later (I won't out my age), I'm back and the pizza tastes just how I remembered it. The chicken was super moist and tender. They give you a good portion of chicken despite my picture (I was so hungry- I ate a few pieces). Some tips: - Make sure to specify whether you are to go or eating inside. There was some confusion there. - While the table was clean, check the floor. I think a toddler was eating and spilled stuff on the floor of the table. Wait staff was nice enough to sweep it up. - Get a medium greek pizza if you have 2 people and want leftovers! - The salads are overflowing over the bowl. Put some napkins down before you get your tongs in there. There's going to be some spillage. - Wait staff was really nice and very family-like atmosphere. We all have had pizza's from dozens of different pizza joints and restaurants throughout our lifetime. Everyone makes a claim as to what the best pizza they have ever eaten. It's all personal preference and opinions. I'm sure there are many of people who can make that claim about Rainbow Pizza me being one of them. I can't claim it's the best tasting pizza I ever eaten because I do have two others that I really like as far as taste (Toto's and Amici's) but let me tell you why I really like Rainbow pizza and restaurant. I am going to make this claim because in my opinion all the pizza joints that I've been to nobody piles it on like Rainbow Pizza. There is no skimping on the toppings or cheese on the pizzas that they make. When they deliver that pizza it makes a big thud when they dropped it on the table. I can't believe the variety of foods that this restaurant serves and their menus are the heaviest and largest menus I've ever seen at any restaurant (very senior friendly with lots of pictures and no eye glasses necessary). If you can't find something in this restaurant that you would love to eat or try and you need to go back home and cook it yourself. I don't eat here often but have eaten here many times over the years and when I do I always leave there satisfied and with a doggie bag or leftover pizza. It's always been that way. For a large, it came with 8 slices and can be split among many people. It almost felt like there were 2 layers of cheese and bread! The pizza was a little oily, but it was still a very delicious pizza to eat. - Shrimp scampi pasta: I was confused on what the difference was between the shrimp scampi and the spaghetti with prawns because from the menu, they looked almost the same, but the waiter said the sauce was a little different between the two dishes. We went with the shrimp scampi, and it was also pretty yummy, although I would have liked a bit more flavor in the dish itself. It also came as a pretty big portion and was enough to split among 2-3 people. - Veal Marsala: I didn't try this dish, but the person in my group who got it really enjoyed it! - Calamari: A pretty large order of calamari and it was all very tasty! Always enjoy getting calamari as an appetizer. Both the food and drinks have such large portions that this is a great place to come with a large group or with family. Rainbow pizza's Greek food is good, and was also approved the most pretentious food critic my Yiayia (Greek gma) in the world.. For starters they DO NOT skimp on ingredients and pizza toppings ! The pizza is good and prob weighs 5 lbs for an individual size. An individual pizza will fill up most adults. The tzatziki is delicious the pita is fresh. I definitely recommend ordering it as an appetizer. I also strongly suggest the calamari. It's cooked perfectly every time. I've ordered it 3 times in a row. Greek lamb chops are deliciously cooked and tender. The star of the show. Cooked medium rare. Perfection. . The Greek salad is huge and should be shared with the table, or what my daughter and I like to do is split an individual pizza and Greek salad. The Pastitsio is tasty. My piece had light bechamel sauce that didn't cover the entire slice, I'd prefer a little a little more and balanced with the meat sauce, but overall good. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more of their Greek items. My wife and I love Rainbow Pizza. We know it more for Greek food than for the pizzas. However, the Greek Pizza is fantastic. From the outside, the modest storefront in the serene hills above San Mateo might fool you; but this place is bustling inside. It is always busy, and things move quickly. If you're a large group, it will take a while to get a seat. If there are only 1 to 2 people in your party, you'll probably get seated pretty quickly. Many to-go orders are going out the front door as well. The service here is always friendly and very efficient. The menu is enormous. We typically stick to the Greek Gyro meat salad or the Greek Gyro with fries; those are our favorites. We always leave happy. The Gyros are perfectly prepared; simply put, they are THE BEST gyros. This family owned restaurant has been around since 1983, they must be doing something right! Their portions are big enough to feed an army. This place has an enormous menu and I don't mean just the number of items but when you actually go into the restaurant, the menu is the most giant menu I've ever seen in my whole entire life.
