This is a place where you grab your closest friends, order some Vietnamese imported beer, BBQ quails and just have a great time. We also ordered the Thai seafood hot pot. It was like having a hot pot with tum yum soup. Service was a bit slow and not all that attentive. The dinning experience was super loud because everyone was drinking and talking. So loud that at times it was hard to have a conversation. You just have to make sure you're yelling louder than everyone else. Parking lot was spacious. The dining area was like a clean basement of a hospital. Multiple large round tables meant the restaurant was used to accomodating for large 8+ parties. A party of 3 (beasts) had a feast. We ordered a total of 6 dishes ~$90. All of which tasted fresh. Memorable eats include: - Ong choy salad: AS EXPECTED, IT WAS EXCELLENT. Yelp review highlight saves the day. At first, I was like 'so little meat.' It ended up being just the right ratio of meat:veggies. - Banh xeo: It was slightly greasy but expectantly crispy. We put some inside make-your-own-spring-rolls and it tasted like Brodard's spring rolls (jk not even close). - Sweet and sour soup: We followed our server's recommendation of fish. The white fish was soft but didn't crumble in the soup. - Beef cubes: They had forgotten the dish but we reminded them (bad idea). By the time it came out, I had eaten too much. Squeeze the lime into salt and pepper and dip the chewy, saucy steaky chunks. I tried more than one because it was yummy even though I was mentally crumbling into fatness. I'm so torn. My husband loves this place. I would love a few changes, but the food I ordered was pretty good, and he thought his was amazing, so here we are. We came on a Tuesday around lunchtime. We were seated quickly and the servers were very attentive. We ordered "GI BÒ RAU MUNG" - the famous On Choy Beef Salad. My husband LOVED this, but to be honest, the beef was a little too strong/sour for me. I did eat the greens that came with the dish, and those were good, but...I'm a veggie girl, what can I say. This place is always one of my favorite places to go eat in Seattle. The variety good choice and original flavors that make me just want to keep coming. I always orders clams/sea snails/ grilled scallops /.. ( seafood) and their beef salad. This place is also good for family meal ( 10 ppl and up) they have their set menus of food with different courses you can choose from. Service is ok, not that great. Its okay! We came here today (Valentine's Day) to have dinner but arrived a bit late but they still served us. The servers welcomed us with a smile and took us to our table. This place is pretty run-down... which is actually a plus in my book. This place is pretty misleading to my co-workers because they all expect this to be an American style BBQ place but it isn't. It's a pretty damn good Vietnamese restaurant. The pho here is solid. Personally I like the pho better at Huong Duong but you can't go wrong with the pho here. I've also had a pork BBQ Bánh mì sandwich which is not only very good but pretty cheap (around $3.50) as well. Their prices for the rest of their food was pretty competitive as well. The one thing that stood out about this place is that they have a very interesting menu (pretty sure I saw cobra some where). Definitely come here if you want to try to some outrageous food! Our group of nine came in on a Saturday around 11am, so it was still pretty empty and we were seated quickly. After getting settled and taking our order, we were disappointed at how spread apart they were bringing our meals out. There must have been a 20 minute gap of when they brought out the first meal and the last meal. We all ordered separate, so some people just had to sit and wait, and watch everyone else eat their meals. We tried waiting until everyone had their meals, but our food would have gotten cold by then. Also, one of us ordered a drink, but it didn't even come out until after the last meal was brought out... You would think it would come out first. Anyways, despite all that, the food is good and filling. It will just all come out at different times. The food was AMAZING and I'm so impressed with the items they have on the meal - many of the dishes I haven't seen in a Chinese or Vietnamese restaurant in a while and just wanted to try everything. The most authentic Vietnamese restaurant with also very authentic viet service and viet fob customers. Go here and expect that especially if you sit upstairs. Best food for cheap price. Dinner with banh xeo (Vietnamese pancakes) as appetizers and I had canh bun and my partner in crime for the night has bbh (aka bun Bo hue). Banh xeo was crunchy on the outer and yet mushy on the inside, not sure how that got screwed up. Plenty of beansprout and meat and two shrimps on the inside (that's actually good portion of shrimp) for the price - almost 9 bucks. Then I believe each of our noodle was 7.95. My broth was less salty than I would like but plenty of rieu in the dish - which is required for this dish to be authentic and also real chunks of crab meat. Also plenty of ong choy and right now ong choy is very expensive! I can't comment on the bbh bc i didn't have a taste but my partner said it was good. Overall, come here for the authentic food, great pricing and typical Asian restaurant experience but don't expect any sort of ambience. read more

Great food and a big menu. They even have quails and frogs! I will try their hot pot next time with my cousins. The service was quite good and friendly. I'll remember this place whenever I'm in Seattle MLK area. Me and my cousin ordered lemongrass spicy chicken and BBQ pork fried rice, and had a generous portion. Because we checked in and showed it to the restaurant employees, they gave us mango dessert. Not many restaurants offer a variety like this place. A must try for everyone! I have been going to this restaurant for years and I absolutely loved the food. However last month I ordered few dishes for party and it was the most terrible experience I have ever dealt with. I went online and looked at the menu for party as well as prices with each item. So I called and placed an order. On the day that I was scheduled to pick up the food, I called and asked how much the total was, the waitress who answered the phone gave me the price which was $70 higher than I calculated based on the price I got from the website. I asked her why and she said because the website was not up to date and I was supposed to confirm the price with them when I placed the order. I was super mad the way they handled the situation. I told her I expected to pay the price I saw on the website and it was not my problem that their website was not up to date. I asked to talk to the owner, she said the owner was not there and she would call him to see what he wanted to do. Then 15 mins later she called me back, she said I had to pay full price this time and they would give me $40 credit when I come to eat next time. Are you really serious???? This is a big restaurant and this is how they handle the problem? I was so mad and speechless. I told the waitress that I expected them to do the right thing, I didn't want the $40!!! And she came back to the fact that I should have confirmed the price with them when I placed the order. Wtf???? They should be the one who confirmed with me and informed that the price on their website was incorrect. $70 dollar for their reputation!!!! That is ridiculous. I would have canceled my order that day but I would feel bad if I have done that. So I paid "their price"! I normally don't do anything like this. But this is unacceptable!!! Obviously I would never go back to this restaurant ever, they lost a customer over $70. I will also tell everyone I know about this experience and advise them to go somewhere else. Finally tried this place with some friends and I'm happy I did. I have been hearing good things about it so I was excited to finally try it out since i love vietnamese food! We got the beef salad (goi), shaking beef (bo luc lac), grilled beef/egg roll vermicelli and the com rainier (rice plate) and WOW I was very impressed. All the flavors blended in so well and was super tasty!! Sometimes I look at an item and think it won't be flavorful but definitely not the case here! Amazing Vietnamese food! Don't be fooled by the name - I was expecting some sort of BBQ chicken place when I went to meet my friend but it is most definitely Vietnamese. Some of the best food I have had. We wanted to try so many things that we got Bun Bo Hue, Ong Choi Salad, a mixed meat platter with rice as well as the garden rolls. Everything was great. I love Bun bo hue and this one did not disappoint. The Ong Choi salad was to die for! I had never had it before but it is a lovely stack of ong choi (vegetables) with beef on top. Very yummy. You know, I strongly believe that there are good foods at this restaurant, but my family just didn't know how to order the right food because we always prefer to eat family style dinner. We aren't exactly the types of people that order "mon an nhau" (bar / drinking types of foods). We ordered the family style dinner, and I thought it was horrible. The eel was just stinking of fish smell. Ca kho to (poached cat fish) was too plain. Other types of foods were too greasy. Everything was just horrible. We thought we could have cooked at home. However, I know this restaurant is always full of people. Once again, you gotta know which types of foods to order. I love their 7 course beef, the ong choy salad, banh xeo, com Rainer, bun no hue, ok...stop me now before i list the whole menu! Pretty much everything I've tried here is amazing!! The 7 course beef could easily feed 3 adults at least! All the food is so flavorful and i think the menu even has descriptions in English for those of you trying the place out for the first time. Generous portions, i can usually spilt my entree with my son. Well, actually this was before he became a teenager and eats more then me. Now he orders his own and i let him choose my entree as well so that i can still share with him! We haven't ever gone wrong on anything we've ordered either! Prices have been slowly increasing this past few years, But they are definitely still on the cheap side. You gotta do what you have to do to keep up with rising costs of products i guess. This place has really good food. Its located in a pretty good spot because there is a parking lot in the back of the building. I really enjoyed the food from here. I highly recommend the Fish Sauce chicken wings, they have really good flavor. They also serve good meat dishes. The seating is good for small and large groups of people. Came here due to Anthony Bourdains no reservation show. The ong choy salad was really good. Also ordered the com bo luc lac (beef cube steak with fried ketchup rice). The avocado smoothie and cafe sua da was great. The coffee was nice and strong and you taste the condensed milk as opposed to other places. The beef cube dish which doesn't usually get served in Vietnamese restaurants was here and very tasty. Beef was very tender and their sauce was very well seasoned. Highly recommend this dish for people who are not into super authentic or harder to eat Vietnamese dishes. We also ordered noodles with crab paste, pungent but excellent flavor profile. Soup broth was a touch spicy but very flavorful and authentic to Vietnam. The congealed blood cubes were excellent. They also had real crab legs in the soup which reminded me of how they make it back home. My friends kept asking for more after trying a spoonful. This was definitely the table favorite. We also got the free mango pudding for checking in here and it was really good and tasty. Overall staff was friendly, food came very quickly and it was a good experience. We tried some of the food from Anthony Bourdain's Layover in Seattle episode and were really impressed. The On Choy salad was light, zesty, and refreshing, with tender beef on top. "Rude, disrespectful toward an Asian Elder employee," this is the last visit for me with this restaurant. As a cultural proud Viet man, I am ashamed that the young waitress or shift manager here raising her voice, yelling at the elder server, whom provided dietary restriction substitute for me, and the kitchen staff has no issue with it. The young worker was so rude and loud and verbally aggressive, angry when she want to let me know there is an extra $20 charge for substitution from $13, for having a simple substitute with one of the meat that I can't eat, right in front of my family, including a small child. She was yelling at the elderly lady so loud that I can hear the entire conversation from the back of the restaurant. I often bring friends here to highlight our Viet Namese foods, but I regret to to say this is not a very good representation of our culture. We are known to be kind toward our customers, especially if they are Viet Namese because the word "Reputation weight heavily, as our guiding business standard, this young lady was rude in her treatments of others and in her presentations to others, and she displayed the lack of professionalism, bad manners, and zero etiquettes. It is shameful to be Viet and don't understand the simplistic concept of respecting your elder and greeting people who are older than you, and aware of her presentations in front of people family. She was so rude and loud toward me that I thought I am bargaining with a taxi driver, who is trying to strong arm me with extra charges. Dietary restrictions are a normal Viet Namese American culture because of health, religious restrictions,o and our food are made fresh, so changing the course shouldn't be difficult. I also say hello to another young male staff and he didn't even acknowledge me. I absolutely love this place! My boyfriend and I were staying at an Air Bnb close by, and decided to try this place on a whim. We were surprised to see how popular it was in the afternoon! Before coming too Seattle, my friend kept telling me that I should definitely try the "$100 grilled fish"! Well, after going to the restaurant, I figured it's not "$100", the price varies with the weight of the fish, depending how many people eating! The grilled fish was enormous (I think it was likely deep fried, not grilled, and the fish was cat fish). It was served Vnese style with different types of herbs and veggie, rice vermicelli, dipping sauce, and rice paper was provided to make a wrap- pretty much like make-your-own spring rolls. The fish was "grilled" to super crispy skin, but the meat was moist and tender!! We also tried "bò tái chanh", a salad with rare beef and veggie and lime, tangy and savory, yummy and refreshing! The "canh chua" was nice too, almost authentic!! So you want to try the grilled fish Vnese style, ask your Vnese friend to come with you or ask the waiter on how to eat it correctly. Totally worth to try!! We waited in line for around 20-30 mins because it was crowded during dinner time! As the restaurant was full, it was really loud, people talking and chatting in such a small place (the table nest to us was super loud, yelling and laughing)! We made reservation for 6 people one week before we went there (8/7/21) at 5:30 pm. Reservation not noted, A lot of people (about 15 excluding us) more waiting to be seated. And there is only one server, same person clearing table, receiving new customers and cashier function...WHAAAT??! We and other customers practically serving ourselves with serving cutlery, no time to ask questions, of course , orders are delayed , not coming simultaneously (bad if you ordered whole fried catfish for 15$/lb and condiments came late plus other orders. So bad to pay 20% for non-service. Felt sorry for the server who was trying her best....not going back there with a big group or visitors. We felt shortchanged .land frustrated. read more

I had higher expectations for this place. It's not like I don't normally eat vietnamese food either. I would say though the things we ordered are not the usual vietnamese dishes I would get. I'm also not that big on trying different meats. Maybe if you are into that, you'd enjoy the other things on the menu. I probably won't return again.
