I was excited there was an Asian restaurant close to my new house that offered a variety of dishes between different cultures. The only problem when there's so much variety is that there really isn't something that's really good, everything was just ok. I've been here a few times and every time my husband and I left a little disappointed feeling like we overpaid for cheap Asian food. I know we don't live close to Bellaire so this is really the only few options available to us unfortunately. We came in on a date and enjoyed the atmosphere. Good calm music and dim lighting but not too dark. The server was helpful and knowledgeable about the menu from the cucumber in our sake to recommending a roll that wasn't on the menu. It was happy hour (4 till 6) so we tried several apps and were extremely pleased with what we got. The chuka salad, tango shell, pork dumplings, and fish tacos were items we would for sure order again. It was a successful date night with some awesome new bites and good wine and sake! Still have yet to find a sushi place that is a 5-star in the area, but this one was very close! All of the staff was very friendly, from hostess to server & the manager who stopped by to check on us. Best part about Rakuu is definitely the price! $4 house wines, our yummy spring rolls were $4. Crab wontons were good and cost about the same. Loved the decor as well, contemporary looking. Lighting could have been a bit more dim, but it's definitely not anything that would keep me from coming back. I was a little disappointed when I took a bite of our skai roll. It wasn't bad & did taste fresh. However, the rice was pretty sticky, and was hard to get off the plate. Flavors were good, but the seaweed paper just seemed a bit chewy too. My wife and I were starving after coming from the movie theater. We decided to come in and we were very surprised. Felt very upscale but the food was reasonably priced. My wife and I enjoyed the food, we started with crab rangoons for an appetizer. My wife got the broccoli plate and I got the sesame plate and we got a Philly roll to share. One of my favorite eateries in this area. Their service is very organized and friendly. Their staff is well trained. On one visit, a part of the order was not correct and they immediately addressed it. Since everyone else was finished with their food, the corrected meal was brought in a to-go box with an apology and a deduction on our bill. Very good way to remedy that situation. The food is great and their selection is vast. We eat there twice a month. They provide all types of Asian cuisine including sushi. read more

This is my new favorite place to eat Chinese food in the area. They have a little bit of everything to choose from (Chinese, Vietnamese, and Japanese food). From General Chicken to pho soup to sushi. I love it! Now my family can all come to one place if we're all wanting different kinds of Asian food. My fiancé and I are are supposed to be watching what we eat but last night we had to splurge a little. So the family and I decided on Rakuu, we live in the area and have passed by many times but never actually tried it. We were in for a treat! I got the pho and it was pho-nominal! It came with all of the fixings, and had lots of flavor! We also had the spring rolls which were very fresh and tasty. My daughter had their shrimp fried rice, and I can't even lie, I had some of that too. The decor inside the restaurant is nice, great for a local date night. I absolutely loved this place! The ambience was calm, sleek, and warm. The staff was very cool/nice and helpful as this was our first visit! Our waiter checked in with us often and seemed very genuine! Ok...so now on to the food. We ordered a Tai Iced tea which truly tasted authentic with bold layered flavors and the perfect amount of sweet cream added. I had the Shaggy Dog which consisted of tempura shrimp, jalapeño, cream cheese, spicy mayo, and garnished with crab. It was very flavorful and well balanced. Everything was fresh and well prepared. My husband ordered the Orange chicken plate with a mixture of chicken/beef. The flavor was bold and fresh but not spicy (which was fine with me as I don't enjoy spicy). The chicken itself was fresh and cooked to perfection and was pleased to have tender beef and not chewy. The vegetables were cooked to perfection...nice and crisp (not squishy like some places)! We are thoroughly looking forward to coming back and trying their Pho. I will review them again when we try a new plate! Restaurant has gorgeous spread perfect for groups and the staff is warm and friendly. For those out there who can't resist coffee make sure to try the Vietnamese coffee I tried it hot but they also have it in a cold. The chefs here are also willing to add spice to either heat up or add a nice simmer to your palate. This was my second time here and I was really disappointed. I placed a to go order of the Pork Vermicelli Bowl. When I arrived to pick it up the service was very fast and I have no complaints there. It was the flavor of my food that I was disappointed with. The pork did not taste like what you would normally get on this Vietnamese dish. It tasted more like a teriyaki flavored meat and just not very authentic. The fish sauce that goes on top was also not what I am used to. It was spicy, I don't know if the spice completely changed the flavor or if it wasn't even fish sauce, but it tasted nothing like what I am used to.
