Raley's - Grocery Near Me - Fremont, California

You know when you go somewhere and it reminds you of when you were growing up? Something about the smells, sounds, maybe something old school about it? Well, for me, that's what Raley's means. Growing up in a far eastern Contra Costa town in the 80's, this was the grocery store where my mom usually shopped. This Fremont location comes about as close to the same set up as the one where I grew up. Although, they are missing my beautiful blue-eyed checker, Jim S., whom I had a crush on since I was born (he was an old friend of my older brother, and he was HOT!). OK, back to the goods. Raley's was one of the first grocery stores to have an "all natural" selection of foods...back then people thought it was crap...and some of it was! Today, you find Bear Naked granola (I love that stuff), Hansen's (we stock up on Mandarin Lime), Odwalla's, bulk nuts/grains/trail mix/etc., herbal teas/vitamins/remedies...lots of good stuff. The Fremont location is huge, drugstore and grocery all in one. Why go to Walgreen's for another wait in line? Just get it in your one stop shop. 4 Stars for good produce selection and friendly staff --- The store is usually neat and clean with a comfortable feeling. Workers are usually in good moods, and check-out lines tend to run smoothly. There is no self-check area, which is offered at a number of other Raley's locations. The parking experience is average/ a bit crowded. Raley's prices are more expensive than most local supermarkets, but items tend to be better quality. There is a fair selection of organic options and items for people with special dietary restrictions/preferences. Best general-purpose grocery store in Fremont. It has an excellent health-food section, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free selections. Sprouts is also excellent, but Raley's is larger and has more variety. The non-grocery items, like cleaning supplies, greeting cards, and household items - are surprisingly good. They have pharmacy items, balloons, even a complete Chase Bank inside. Better than any other grocery in town, almost as good as Target for random weekly household items. The frozen section, dairy, and baking sections are great. The packaged food aisles have all of the brands you know, and many others, at decent prices. The prepared foods and baked goods are fine. The produce section is the most disappointing. The total number of items isn't that large, they simply don't have more obscure fruits and vegetables at all. The quality is okay, but seems to favor looks over flavor - and it varies a lot from week to week. The sale prices are sometimes good, but the regular prices on produce are on the high side. My advice is to go to Sprouts or a neighborhood farmer's market for fresh produce, and Raley's for the "staples" to cook with. I'm a lover of sandwiches and was looking for a new place to try out. The first time I came here was to use the coin star and noticed they had a deli. I decided to try it out one day and now this is most definitely one of my favorite places. You can create your own sandwich or try their own creations. I'm still going through the menu but the service is cool and for some reason every time I've come here whoever is making my sandwich will always tell me that what I ordered is their favorite. Pffft get outta here and just give me my sandwich! I don't need you to make me feel secure about my purchase ha! I'm playing I know they're just being nice but seriously ... I don't believe you. Hmmm what else ... oh I can't say I'm a fan of their meat loaf but every thing else has kept me coming back. Finally the sandwiches are pretty filling. I like this place it was a mess the day we went but I blame that on it being the 4th of July and everybody was scrambling for last minute BBQ supplies. We of coarse weren't there for nothing that had to do with the 4th but for my husbands Grandma's groceries she had made a list for my mother in law and being that we needed lunch too I went to help. Our first stop was the Deli where they make these great sandwiches and even though the lady who helped us wasn't too happy working on the 4th of July she made due and took her sweet time making three sandwiches complaining to me how tired she was and how badly she wanted to go home. Hey I didn't care I just wanted my sammy made right and without any flaws to it, so I kept the lady entertained by chatting it up with her and made small talk. Shit she's lucky to have a job that is paying her triple on a holiday she agreed. Almost 20 minutes later our 3 sammys were done and we still had to finish our shopping on we went it felt like an eternity but I guess I chose the right line to get in according to my mother in law, I chose the fasted checker Raleys had and we were out in a flash! The staff we met up with were all great and even though the drink isle was a holy mess we made our way through. I've been here quite a few times and had just noticed that I forgot to give them a review. If I'm just comparing this place to Safeway, Safeway is much better in terms of prices but Raley's is better in terms of customer service (maybe because they don't have as many customers at Safeway). In terms of product, Raley's has a lot of health foods but the organization of the aisles are a little off. Whenever I need to purchase something in particular, I have to walk around a few times before I can find what I need and the employees there, have never asked me if I needed any help. read more

I rarely shop at Raley's, but from time to time I'll come by when I'm in the neighborhood after visiting my mother. I am partial deaf/HOH customer, and the man that works there who I see sometimes was really accommodating to me yesterday evening. He recognized me and went out of his way to help me a couple times, while using a few common signs. Like I said, I don't shop there very frequently, so I was impressed that he knew my face and attended to my hearing loss. After all, let's be honest, those self checkout machine are frustrating to everyone, not just deaf individuals. I didn't catch his name, though, but next time, I'll ask. He could be a manager, but he's tall, with a dark beard and glasses, and I'm hoping he knows I am appreciative of him going the extra mile fir me.I'm happy Raleys has employees who are helpful to deaf community. This would probably be a no-frills 3 star review except for the fact that I recently discovered Raley's ORGANIC FOODS isles, yes isles (as in 3). That and they also are selling a fair share of organic vegetables so on those days when you don't feel like making the trek across the bridge to the Paly WF you can get your ORGANIC fix here. Of course the selection does not compare to WF but for essentials it is on point. As well the cashiers are usually pretty friendly and it has much more of a family feel compared to Lucky's and especially Safeway. read more

This is for the SANDWICH DELI ONLY! Overall Raley's a great supermarket..they always have what I need and a great organic section (bigger than most other chain markets). But I am in LOVE with the sandwich deli. I never really cared for supermarket delis but I was in a time crunch and needed something fast. So instead of buying chips I decided to get something at the deli bar....I think personally it's a bit better than subway. There are more fresh ingredients to choose from, quality cheeses..and they aren't afraid to pile it high with extra fresh veggies. The prices are reasonable. read more

10/24/2019 Went to get my regular order of Slice cheese and ham sliced thin at the deli at about 2pm. Had a clerk that didn't care, in fact after slicing half the cheese thick, I asked again to have it thin, she proceeded to slice it thin, giving me a bag of mix thicknesses and then proceeded to give me a bag of ham, not sliced thin but shredded. Complained to the self checkout clerk/manager and she got another clerk Sean to cut the products correctly, Interesting that while Sean was helping me, everyone in the deli section "left for break", leaving him alone at the deli as if they were punishing him for doing what the manager ask him to do. Definitely would go to another store for anything from a deli or ask for Sean. 9/13/2019 We go to the Deli to get slice meat and cheese and mix results from the counter personnel. But Sean, who helped me this week gave excellent service, sliced everything perfectly and bagged it professionally. This is my go-to grocery store and has been for many years. It is very clean and for the most part cashiers are friendly, (many of whom have been there for years). The selection is pretty good and the produce is usually fresh. Decent deli selection. Some good cheeses. My only gripe is the prices are creeping up, (eggs, for example). I'll likely be coming here forever because this store is so clean and has everything I need, but I've started buying a few staples elsewhere due to the rising costs, (eggs, bread). My favorite thing here is the peanut butter grinder, along with the closeout section. Also they have good deals on meat with the Deals of the Day stickers. I hope Whole Foods doesn't run them out of business. Because I detest Whole Foods. read more

The one star is for the customer service in the Bakery. Today my mother-in-law needed a bakery clerk to help her find a sugarless pie. There were three ladies working in the back and at least two looked up at her and ignored her. A fourth clerk entered and walked passed her never acknowledged her and went to the back. Finally one of the original three yelled, "I'll be right with you!" She still had to wait for the clerk to finish what she doing before she came up. I shop here on a weekly basis and they always treat me like family. The produce is always fresh and Mike (the produce guy) does a great job keeping it stocked. The butcher is eager to answer any questions as to what is the best meat for a certain meal. Deborah in the deli makes the best sandwiches and does not skimp out on meat or cheese. The bathroom is always clean and tidy. I have even requested certain items and they now carry them in the store. I've never been to another store that would do that (which made me go from 4 to 5 stars). read more

Not as good as Trader Joes but has a very nice selection of European items as well as Health Food items. They even have an awesome bulk section! They also have a chinese deli which is mainly crappy americanized chinese so I'd skip that. The pre-packaged sushi is pretty good too. read more

This is my favorite grocery store in the Fremont area. It has great selections of deli meat, produce (both organic and non), baked goods and other groceries. What I love most about this Raley's is that there are whole aisles dedicated to specialty items. There is a whole gluten free aisle, an aisle of all organic/vegetarian items and an aisle dedicated to organic soaps, scrubs and body lotions. People that had trouble finding organic obviously didn't know where to look because I'm able to get almost everything I buy organic when I go to Raley's. The prices are a bit steeper than you will find at Safeway or Lucky, but you are paying for better quality items. read more

Overall I appreciate the service I get when I shop here. The checkers are friendly. All but one older, white haired lady. The pharmacy staff is great! Again all but the middle eastern pharmacist. The meat department is super helpful and will cut your chosen meat the way you like. The bakery is hit or miss. When I ask for my bread to be sliced, they will do it for you but there are a couple of people who look like I'm asking for the moon. I would ask that they keep a closer eye on their produce. Raley's on Paseo Padre is, overall, the best supermarket in Fremont. Huge selection, good service, nice atmosphere. Prices do tend to be higher. I agree with other reviewers about the checkout clerks who ask customers inappropriately personal questions. A couple of them are very bad about doing that, and I feel like telling them that my life is really none of their business, nor the business of the strangers standing in line with me. Raley's management should curtail this practice. Another problem is that the Customer Service counter is usually unattended, and there is a button to push to summon a clerk. Don't push it twice, though, because you'll get a stern lecture about it from a snippy little woman, when she finally appears from the back of the store. Makes me feel like pushing it a dozen times. The store's close proximity to BART means that there are occasionally scruffy types about, but that's kind of a fact of life in the Bay Area. Still, it's a very good store. This was my first time really shopping at a Raley's, since we don't have them where I am from in Washington. I had been in this location years ago when I was down here visiting a friend, but I wasn't really shopping and was just along for the ride that time. The store is in nice shape, and I was told it was recently remodeled. The employees and customers were all super friendly and helpful. I believe my cashiers name was Helen -- she was seriously the best. She engaged in conversation and was so welcoming to me. Also, the guy bagging my groceries (Jonathan, maybe?) was very nice and friendly. In fact, he noticed that something I bought was cracked open and ran back to get me a replacement. That was very nice of him, as I had not noticed the damage to the item. I will gladly shop here again, and it was a very pleasant experience. read more

I really like this Raley's. I've never had an issue finding what I needed here and I've rarely ever had to wait in line to checkout. I mostly shop here for a quick grab of milk or their Dutch crust French bread. They have a pretty expansive selection of organic and natural food items for decent prices. There's a deli and bakery, pretty much all the departments that you'd expect in any supermarket. This one is cleaner and more organized than most. Being a Redbox and Amazon location is a plus in my books! read more

Just came here on my 30 minute lunch break to get some food after standing in line for 10 minutes they told me i need to have a sticker for my food so no big deal i walk over to the deli and wait in another line so when i get up to the cashier she tells me i need to go to another line she cannot print the stick so im a little frustrated now but i go to the other line and when i get to that cashier she says she can not print the sticker lol so after about 20 minutes i give up and walk out hungry for lunch i will never! Raley's has the best rotisserie chicken hands down. Also an extensive health food and supplement section. Always enough help at the deli and bakery counters, so not much of a wait. I normally don't shop at Raley's but I really do like this one. I have been here before and during the remodel, and I like the new changes, even if a lot of customer's don't. We had just moved here from the Santa Cruz Mountains area and I was missing some of our local markets. While Raley's isn't like either New Leaf or Ben Lomond Market, they're basically the same as going to Nob Hill (they seem to be associated with the same name). The staff is super friendly and helpful. I can say that's a definite plus. On the other hand, similar to other Nob Hill grocery stores, Raley's is very pricey! So since I'm trying to save money on our family's monthly grocery bill - I know I won't be coming here all the time. it's really the option of the last resort if I just can't find that favorite cereal of my husband's anywhere else or if I can't find that brand of vanilla extract that I use for pancakes and crepes. For those somewhat difficult to find items - I know I can go to Raley's... but I'll probably still be hunting for those few favorites elsewhere, since I know the only place likely to be more expensive than Raley's will be Whole Foods... read more

The quality is great prices are a lil high. Every time I call and order a sandwich it's never right!! Damn is turkey n salami on wheat that hard? Either I get the turkey and not the salami or vice versa. Or I get both meats n no Swiss cheese?? I work for discrimination and corruption department. I just visited to this Raley's with my other Indian co worker to buy lunch first time. We both are pure vegetarian. In food section, we found Samosas which is a famous snack in India and always filled with potatoes. There was no name plate and ingredients written on that item. As usual we thought it is vegetarian. When we ate it, it was actually beef and beef is strictly against aur religion. We went back to store to return it and get the refund. First they asked us to go here and there for 10 mins. Once they refund us we requested food section supervisor to please put the name of item on it. At that time they already put the item tag in it. Fortunately I clicked the picture when there was no tag on it. She was nice and said sorry and she will take care of that always. But a employee came and started laughing st us and said you should not buy food from us. And if there was no tag you should buy the item. Now he will tell us which food we should buy or which not.i asked him to talk politely and admit their mistake. He started shouting in the store and went back inside employee room. We have pictures and made video of incident. I don't know his name but he should be immediately fired. We are going to file a lawsuit against him and Raley's. read more

This is the best and most decent grocery story in the Bay Area and the prices are the least expensive of every other store I have priced. The staff are friendly, the place is clean. Problems - and this is not Raleys fault. Fremont is starting to get lower class people and they have decided to make the bench in front of Raleys their gathering hole. I have seen gang members shopping here, as they have gone out of their way to label themselves in Red. This is destroying the neighborhood. read more

Expensive and smells a little weird. I mention the smell only because the whole store just kind of creeps me out. It has a strange deli-sort of smell. Any one else notice this? As for the prices: expensive. We shop at Safeway most of the time, and the prices there are a good 20% cheaper than Raleys. Raleys does have some things like organics or weird foods, that Safeway doesn't carry. That's the only reason to set foot in Raleys. I was so happy with the meat department but today when I went to get my chicken cut up , the guy in the meat department said that he was tired of Indians asking for their chicken to be cut into small pieces.
