This is my second review of Raley's in Petaluma and my rating is down to 2 stars. I am hoping it is a temporary slump because I really enjoyed shopping here. Last week I came into the store for my usual weekly groceries. I had trouble finding two items I had bought there recently, frozen lobster bisque and another, Raley's brand dried Montmorency cherries. Jeanne, my checker I had never seen before, was impatient and very rude to me. She asked what item I was looking for and I told her Montmorency cherries. She insisted they were called Moreno cherries which I have never heard of. I am familiar with the French language and I know which product I need. Anyway, her attitude was unrelenting, bossy, and mean-spirited. It was the same with the lobster bisque. She acted as though I was confused and probably had bought it somewhere else! I tried not to be rude and talk to her in the same way. It was difficult but I did not lower myself to her level. I did, however decide to post this on Yelp! with the hopes of karma weeding out bully-behavior like hers. I have been a steady Raley's customer for five years and this experience really affected me and now I am considering changing stores, that is, if people like Jeanne the mean checker are allowed to treat customer like enemies. read more

Four stars for energy efficiency alone, a great model and standard for other stores. And the only reason I ever shop here, to add my meager support to their green tinted cause. Other than that, reviewers have already uncovered the truth. Oh, and the fresh Chinese is horrible... as in really really bad. read more

my 2nd Raley's in a week! i haven't been to one in a decade. ajsles tbe wjdest ever see in a supermart. store looks clean, new. liquor section large. pricing model same as cvs/safeway, buy 6, get up to 30% off. -reminded of buying cases of beer at costco thinking it would last weeks, nope, just days.... buys: bruce costs ginger ale (7.99) got it for 4.50 -noticed 4.5 tag for ginger ale in front of costs' product brought a 4 pak to the register for price check informed it was 7.99, i mentioned the 4.5 tag, "show me" she said. i did. *in short, she sold me the ginger ale though the tag was obviously wrong -didn't ask her to do it, just said" "i knew it was too good to be true" take outs: -awesome! most places would cite stocking error and decline selling it at 4.5. definitely a fan! read more

Raley's isn't my primary grocery store, but I do visit on occasion. I love that they operate with energy efficiency in mind, plus the plastic bag ban is great. The store is super clean, and they have wonderful customer service. If you have a quick question, need to order a specialty item from the bakery or meat department, it is very easy to get a "human" on the phone. Their E-cart service is RAD! Too tired/Busy/Lazy/straight up don't want to do the shopping? SImply shop online. Can't find an item you want in the online store-simply ask for it in the comments sections! Coupons? No problem, just add a quick note. You can shop in the morning/afternoon, and pick your groceries up 3-4 hours later. AWESOME! New customers, and existing who spend over $100 have no service fee, after that only $4.95! Best yet they bring the groceries to your car, load them, and that's it! read more

Nice grocery store, with a pharmacy and two aisles of household cleaning/chore supplies. There is also a sushi station and a bakery. Quite a polite crew, plenty of standard choices per item, prices seem standard as well. Spacious, well lit and clean. At $0.10 a bag, they should be stronger, but you can't have everything. Beer selection included Old Rasputin, so kudos for that, at least! read more

Beautiful grocery store. Dissapointed in the Deli area, and the lack of a salad bar & hot food bar

Let's start with the Raley's Pharmacy. They are incredible! We used to have all our prescriptions filled by Long's Drugs but when CVS took over, they went to hell in handbasket. We decided to try Raley's and they have been outstanding. Their auto-renewal of prescriptions works great, we have NEVER been disappointed. When I was in the hospital recently, they filled my new prescriptions and when they did not have one of the medicines in stock, they contacted another pharmacy and arranged for us to get the meds there - even going to far as to send the other pharmacy my insurance information so that all we had to do was pick it up!!! We give the pharmacy 5 stars! The super performance of their pharmacy has now led us to using the grocery store and since we love to experiment in the kitchen, we love the selection available at Raley's, definately a step above Safeway, Lucky, G&G and Whole Foods. The only reason we didn't rate Raley's at 5 stars is the meat department, for a butcher we prefer Whole Foods or Safeway. read more

Raley's - Yum alien vegetable - Grocery Near Me - Petaluma, California

The new Raley's market - it's attractive, but the following facts have earned it poor marks: Prices - higher than Safeway and G & G, Selection - nothing special enough to make a special trip for, Shopping carts - designed by a complete nincompoop who has clearly never gone shopping for more than snacks and mouthwash. The bottom rack pitches forward, launching your large and heavy item(s) into the aisle or parking lot at unpredictable intervals (awesome!), and the top bin is so shallow you'll need to hire a Sherpa to trail behind you with the rest of your stuff. It's easier to shop in than that crowded, dreadful Safeway, but the prices and the ridiculous carts are simply beyond toleration. read more

I shop here weekly and I love the entire staff. All of them are so friendly and always happy to help. Today I had Remy and Russel as my cashier and bagger and they provided excellent service with a smile and even though I had checked my eggs Remy spotted a cracked one and Russ was back in a heartbeat with new ones! This store is doing something right because they have great service so I will keep coming back! read more

Compared to the Pleasanton branch, where I was a customer for ten years before moving to this area, this branch is a disappointment. The produce is often very picked over, leaving empty shelves. The meat section is equally disappointing; the selection is inferior and there is generally less meat overall. The same picked over and shelves left empty issue affects the meat and seafood department. In the past I've justified the somewhat higher prices paid at Raley's versus competitors on the basis of meat and produce, dry goods being generally equivalent, but that's not true when comparing this Raley's to the closest Safeway (a quarter mile away). Even the deli is worse. The rotisserie chickens never seem to be under $7 and in three months I've yet to see the deli discount hot items. read more

It's nice when you go places to visit or vacation, and there is a nice grocery store to shop in. Stater Bros. in Southern CA, Stop and Shop on the East Coast.... When visiting my in-laws we do a lot of cooking together and often we shop ahead of time at Raley's. Their prices might not be lowest on every item but I feel you are getting quality products and friendly service when you shop here. Grocery shopping can be tiring when you're fighting to make it down aisles then waiting in long, slow lines. So it's nice when you enter a store that's clean and well-organized. Here's something I think is most awesome. Double-sided printing on the receipt. Our last receipt for $131+ of groceries (getting ready for a baby shower!) would have been one of those really, really long ones you get used to at other stores. Why waste the paper guys? Do we really need coupons for oil changes and hair cuts on the back? NO! Save paper. Print on both sides. Thank you for being environmentally conscious, Raleys. Now, remind your checkers to always ask customers if they brought their own reuseable bag. It's a polite way to remind someone how important this is! read more

Still the best store ever!!! Even after Safeway across the street got a new storefront and tried to train there employees to be like Raley's, NOT! (lasted a few weeks) I am faithful to my favorite store, but they have earned it. Every time I go there, they do things right. "Hello Jen, how are you today?" - Gotta love the attention. Note to staff: Please take care of my two complaints: 1. The bathrooms need more attention, it can be a bit dirty at times, and the soap is so far away from the second sink, and the paper towel dispenser that is close the the soap dispenser never seems to work anymore, ugh. 2. Train your bag people better. Eggs should be protected, and my avocados plus bananas should never go in a bag with canned food or something that will squish it, but they are still the nicest most awesome people ever. read more

It's expensive, yes. The selection is very good, I must say. But most of all, it's NOT Safeway!! This new Raley's is almost always devoid of people! I've yet to wait in line one time. It's laid out in a pretty logical fashion; I can usually "sense" which direction I need to head in to find an item. Lots of specialty items, lots of small brands. Overall, a great place to shop, especially for those who suffer from ochlophobia which Safeway will give anyone. A complete grocery store, albeit a little pricey. Well worth it when compared with the other grocery stockades in Petaluma. Also, this was the first place I saw that puts ping-pong balls on the beer aisle. A stroke of genius? I really like this store. Everybody that works there are very nice and helpful. I have not come across one employee that was rude! One guy comes to mind and I think his name is Michael. He is always so helpful and the sweetest guy! I love that they have an organic section and everything is well layed out. Their produce is fresh. They had a wine or beer tasting on Thursday nights. It is $3 and you get to taste whatever wine they are pouring that night with some really good food. It is a really great deal. I'm in love! They mostly pour wine but sometimes they do beer. We went when they were pouring Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and it was actually really good. They had a represenative from Sierra Nevada there and he had some pens and key chains to give away. I moved to Petaluma last summer, and wanted to find a decent place to get my groceries. I was fed up with Safeway, tired of not being able to get everything I need at Trader Joe's, and couldn't afford the luxury of Whole Foods. Raley's is perfect! Their prices are comparable to Safeway, if only slightly higher. In fact, after going there again today I noticed tons of price drops - especially on their cereals. Raley's is super clean, they have fresh produce with a great selection, and to finish it all off, the employees are incredibly kind and genuine - and fast. There is never a wait. read more

You know the story, you head out to this supposedly great flick that has a bazillion dollar budget and all the bells and whistles and LO AND BEHOLD, they forgot to put a plot in there. My family shops here regularly and I have to admit, between here and Safeway, it's a no brainer. Raley's always the clear winner in terms of prices, sales, produce availability and freshness, selection of products, customer service, and even small things like parking space availability. The staff here are really helpful, and they're actually available, unlike the Safeway not too far away where the staff seem to always be hiding from the customers. read more

I always go here, good prices and variety.

The restrooms are usually fairly clean. The sushi is fresh and well stocked. 80% of the associates are helpful and willing to go out of their way. The pharmacy associates are awesome! The water for refilling your bottles is clean tasting. The jugs they carry to refill are reasonably priced. Overall the store is clean but the prices are higher then safeway. They do have some really great deals on the savings card they have. read more

There is a ton of room for improvement in their order fulfillment and their customer service. The last three times I have ordered from them, they forgot an item two out of those three times. I called the first time and manager Mariah promised me a store credit which never ended up showing up on my account. The second time they forgot an item, manager Katrina blamed it on a third party service they were using and promised me a call back the next day. A week and a half later no call. I called the store and after two transfers and an excuse of conference calls and phones ringing off the hook from manager Karen, finally reached Mariah. She appeared a defensive because "Katrina was supposed to call you but didn't" and the "credit has been on my account for $8" even though the cost for the two items totaled $8.89. When I brought that up she immediately accomodated to the correct price and I believe gave some extra as well. We will see if the credit even shows up. I understand that with multiple managers things are difficult, especially communication. However, making excuses and blaming other coworkers while speaking to another customer(which all three of the managers I spoke to did) is unprofessional in my opinion. It made me uncomfortable. As a customer, I don't care who's fault it was, I would just like the problem fixed in a timely manner and I would like that communicated to me. Overall these experiences gave me a negative view of the management at this location. I hope management takes this feedback as an oppurtunity to improve communication with both themselves and with customers. read more

Great place, far preferable to the madhouse that is Safeway. A bit pricier, but keep your eye on what's on sale and you'll do OK. Super friendly people here, and the lines are usually short. Sushi is made fresh and sandwiches are generously portioned. They have Rug Doctor cleaners here for under $30, which is pretty cool. The pharmacy is well staffed and also quite friendly. Overall, this is a great place to shop for a variety of needs. read more

I recently ordered the flowers for my wedding from Raleys. I asked for 3 bouquets, 3 boutenierres and extra flowers for cake and vases. Bhavna was very sweet, creative, helpful and conscientious about cost as she knew I was trying to keep expenses low. Everything was ready and beautiful when my sister picked them up on the big day. Very clean store, I'd say superior to other chain grocery stores like Safeway/Vons. The staff is always nice and they have a wonderful wine, beer, and spirits selection that is surprisingly well rounded. Most of the time I can get a great variety of alcohol here without having to make a specific trip to BevMo, and Raley's tends to be cheaper than BevMo anyway. You can actually 'build your own 6-pack' with a variety of beers - perfect for when you and a friend like different beers, or you like trying new things. The older staff members still recognize me even though I moved to Novato and don't often make it to the store any more, and are always giving me a smile and saying 'hey!' Sometimes, when all you need is a deodorant stick or a bag of chips, that makes all the difference. Their sandwiches and soups are also quite tasty and not too expensive. read more

The 1 star is for their cart delivery program, not for the store itself which has really helpful and nice staff, but trying to use Raley's online e-cart is a complete disaster. I spent 3 1/2 hours on the phone with the store, then Raley's Technical assistance line - when transferred to the person who was supposed to deal with these matters, I just got a recording " ..your business is very important to us..." saying the in box was full and no messages could be left......then back to the operator ....., 3 calls and they couldn't fix it. Their e-cart delivery can only be paid online by credit/debit cards, so you have to go to the store to pay/collect, which defeats the whole concept of home delivery. Catch 22. There are numerous reasons that people want/need groceries delivered and it has the potential to be a big part of their overall business, (especially during the 'flu season). The cumbersome online ordering program kept rejecting my credit card details even though my bank confirmed every billing address detail was EXACTLY correct. They say the software is overly-sensitive to upper/lower cases, punctuation, spaces, yet 20 attempts including many with my bank's online security Dept. who confirmed my address had been entered exactly as they required to approve the transaction. This has never happened to me before. I have no problems with any other online purchases. If you want to waste several hours trying to use an iPad to online order, go right ahead, lol ! Update: I received a call from Raley's main office, wanting more info. on what my bad experience had been so it could be brought to the attention of management. (Evidently there have been numerous complaints from other customers about similar bad experiences with the online software. Indeed, I have since learned that 2 neighbors have also given up trying to use Raley's e-cart program ). I really hope they make the necessary software changes as a matter of priority before they lose more customers. If it were not for the really helpful staff at the store, Raley's would have lost my business entirely. I ended up having to get a friend to drive to the store to pick up the groceries. Again, it was the staff who saved the day and very efficiently had everything bagged and ready, even calling me to let me know a couple of items were out of stock and suggesting alternatives. I love this new Raley's. I have to say I especially love that is in next door to TJ's. The store has beautiful non flourescent lighting and clear wide aisles, no logjams here. I deducted one star for the tiny selection of Clover products. As for prices there are some real deals to be had, some things are high but I just keep my mind open and shop bargains. The employees there are super nice and helpful. The Hot Chinese food section is pretty good for that type of thing, they will let you try it all before buying so judge for yourself. read more

My grown kids just moved to Petaluma and Raley's was down the street from their condo. I was visiting from out of town for Thanksgiving. Found it clean, bright and has anything and everything you need. Lots of organic "things" and even a small basket at the entrance for kids to have FREE fruit while parents shop. Had a few items for colds in the pharmacy area too. Thought their prices were about the same as mine in the desert. Much more variety to chose from. Nice deli and their bake goods were delicious. Great selection of wines, don't drink beer so don't know about that, alcohol was somewhat good. We donated $10 for food for needy and cashier said Raley's would add another $20 to our donation. There is searing outside for a quick snack or like our grandkids for free cupcakes the bakery gave them as we passed. My kids are excited to have it close to home too. read more

I wish I could give this shit hole negative stars. I tried to get someone to help me at the Deli counter at 7:30 in the evening, as usual no help. I stood at the counter and yelled dose anyone want to help me? After five minutes I left. I'm not writing this because I had one bad experience it's every time I try to get help at their Deli. I often purchase Tillamook yogurt; however, recrntly the bottoms of the containers have been filthy. Dried crusty brown stuff, disgusting. Fortunately, the seals weren't broken. Won't be purchasing that product anymore if they continue to look like that. read more

I never thought I would review a grocery store but I have had consistent fantastic service so I felt it was time to give them a proper compliment. This store has great displays, it's clean and the staff is fantastic. I love the checkers and the baggers. They are kind, work with a sense of urgency are thoughtful and engaging. I love this place. We have so many options in PETALUMA but Raleys creates a stress free shopping experience. read more

Well, lets see, I believe most everything that I would like to have said has been stated, so lets see if I can review "between the lines". I agree, for big shoppers, the shopping carts are a bit unreasonably small and do sit forward. Pretty sure that was the only negative aspect I have. I, too... love, love, love Trader Joes, however, it is true for many, we cannot complete all of our shopping needs there. First Impression: This is 20 classes up and above the Safeway here inn town! Very, very clean (yes, it's new, but the layout is very eye-catching, and senses pleasing) I like the way they have it set up... all your healthy, organic, fru-fru items to the right of the store, and majority of your everyday, run-of-the-mill items (and less healthy) to the left of the store. I will disagree with the earlier poster, stating nothing special here, when infact, I believe anything you would try to find at any health food, nutrition center, gourmet grocery and everyday grocery, and lets throw in bakery.. you can find here. They have a great produce dept.. options, options, options galore!! Seafood dept, fresh for sure! I am very happy that I FINALLY decided to make a stop in here, I was very pleased by the selections! and ....... they have lots of ADVERTISED on the price card sale items, that actually make you feel like you're getting a good savings. Worth the trip, and if you need to, just shoot on over to T.J.'s! You'll walk off that venti frappucino you had this morning! ;0) read more
