Just had an absolutely phenomenal experience at Ralph's and had to shout out Eddie in the meat and seafood department. We order some salmon and he offered to fry it for us on the spot. Amazing customer service that's rare to come across these days. The salmon he fried came out flawless - we were able to have a picnic on the beach with some salad. Ralph's Malibu is great. It's an unofficial community center and the cashiers are the nicest bunch of people. Yeah, it's a drag when they rearrange everything every 5 years or so, but it's a nice and reliable spot. They don't have the exotic items - Vintage or Whole Foods is better for that - but they've got tons of variety, especially if you have dietary needs. It is true that the deli service counter can be really slow, so that's one area I tend to avoid. read more

The Latin girl, Brunella, i think is her name, was the most efficient, the most friendly deli worker i've have ever encountered! I find that many, if not most of these workers, begrudgingly scoop out food for the customer and seem to hate it when you ask for something else. But not her. She serves you with a smile on her face, helping you with whatever question you have. She is a model example employee, and it's a shame there are not more market workers like her! read more

I live in Santa Monica but I drive to the Ralph's in Malibu. The main reason is the staff and selection of goods. Even if I come at 10 PM wanting something from the bakery or slightly before close with a carload of groceries the staff is always helpful and polite and courteous. read more

Visiting Malibu and happened to stop by Ralph's to grab a quick bite to eat. Overall it's your typical grocery store, but it did have a little high end feel to it. Everything was pretty easy to find, but we were there for the sandwich station. We ordered a turkey sandwich on ciabatta bread. Word to the wise, don't order this type of bread at Ralph's. The bread was cold and seemed stale making the whole meal taste terrible. Next time we will stick to either a wrap or regular white bread. read more

From my experience, the one thing that has always bothered me about this store (Malibu location) is that they seem to only put the old, "on the verge of expiration" bad produce on sale. But really, what good is a sale when the produce is almost inedible? Obviously this is an inconsiderate money-saving business strategy, but nevertheless, I wish the manager would put on "real" sales that actually give quality to the customer while simultaneously saving them a little money, rather than advertise reject produce with the false pretense of a great sale. I accept that due to it's prime location prices will be higher here than elsewhere (but I wish quality wouldn't be lower). The deli worker act like they are slave labor! I can't help but feel these employees must be treated very badly as they all act like they are so inconvenienced by a customer. Isn't that why they are all running around so busy- to actually serve the food?! Rude at best and at worst your lucky to get someone to help you when you don't have to wave them down REPEATEDLY only for them to either blatantly ignore you or acknowledge you and basically walk the other direction- fast. On a late night cruise down PCH we decided to stop by here for some healthy snacks and also to use the bathroom. Like any grocery story or Ralph's near my house it's got everything you need. This particular Ralph's looked very tidy and clean. Not too many employees working on a Saturday night but still got the necessary snacks. The bathrooms were nothing but clean with no complaints. This is my regular grocery store. I appreciate the familiarity of products and store layout when I go to different Ralph's stores. Huge variety of food products and prices are affordable. The deli makes great sandwiches if you happen to be hungry for lunch-- it's easy to walk in and grab pre-made sandwiches and salads to go! My favorite section of the store is behind the fruits and veggies; you can pick and choose from trail mix, chia seeds, dark chocolate covered cranberries (my favorite) and much more. Plenty of parking and other shops in this shopping center. read more

So we were late getting up the coast for a concert and hungry. We decided to stop and grab a quick meal at Ralphs. We thought we would be stuck with something boring and bland. We sure were wrong! The food available was such a nice variety including Tri-tip. Everyone was so helpful and nice. The store was well organized, and clean. We thought we were going to have to eat in our laps in the car but again we were surprised! When we went outside with our food there were actually table and chairs. We sat and enjoyed our quick meal and had some great people watching moments. There were no spectacular views from this location but you were reminded every moment that you were in Malibu by the numerous Range Rovers in the parking lot. read more

Kroger send your employees through there training program, its so diffferent you cant put it into words! When I read reviews from all the various locations, there not good, one star, negative! Upper management wakeup! Now for the gimmicks. When you use your debit card they charge you a fee to get cash back!!!! I have never been in any store in the country thats charges you a fee let alone a supermarket where your buying your groceries! Good location, fast lines and clean inside. The four self-checkout machines almost always have an opening if you are in a rush. They also have CRV redemption machines right outside so you can bring your cans/bottles etc here to get your drink money back. Hard to find staff to ask for help though. read more

Stopped by for a sandwich before the beach and the sandwich maker was probably the worst sandwich maker I've ever seen. I asked for a wrap, he said "not today. Tomorrow" I shrugged and ordered a sandwich and he gave the ingredients. I say pickles and he threw like 3 pickles unevenly on the bread. Hey put the turkey so uneven I asked him to even if out. Then he just pushed the side with more turkey on it down so smushing the bread under it until it looked like it was more even. I thought a panini press would help even everything so I asked if they could use their panini press. He said "not today, tomororow." I laughed and said what do you mean? You either have a panini press or you don't. He said "let me check". And before he checked he wrapped my sandwich and cut it as I pleaded with him to wait. She has publicly mocked me and laughed at me as well as saying super rude things on different occasions. So it's a bit odd to write a review about a grocery store, but because this store irritates me so much I will. First of all I'd like to mention I used to eat at all the different Ralphs salad bars when I traveled for work. This one has the worst salad bar, the soups absolutely cannot be eaten. It's almost like they close their eyes when they add ingredients to the soup and don't look back. The salad bar looks rotten and like the food has been sitting there all day even at 7 am when they have supposedly just put the food out. Yes, it's a bit random to review a Ralph's, but let's be real - they're not all the same! Cleanliness reigns supreme in Malibu, and the same can be said for its grocery stores. I stop by here on the way up PCH maybe once a week on average and I've really just gotta give this place 4 stars for the friendliness of its employees. Man, I wish I had other options. Honestly, this place has me missing my old local Vons in TO, and that is a low bar. This place is small, and it seems to have a good-sized deli section and tons of organic/gluten free junk, if you care about that. Unfortunately, I'm a mom of four living on a budget, and the selection for the stuff I'm looking for is spotty. Sales seem to be similar to what I experienced back in TO, and the milk is usually a really good price, but prices in general seem higher than what I paid back in the Conejo Valley. Produce prices are okay, but the staples selection is really small. Flour/sugar/baking products don't have many options, and base prices are high. I guess it's clean, but I seem to be coming at times when they're stocking shelves, so it often feels cluttered to me. Some employees are friendly, some are not. Definitely not the upbeat, welcoming ambiance of any Trader Joe's or even the Ralphs stores in Westlake and Thousand Oaks. Lots of rude, entitled customers (not the store's fault, but it takes away from my desire to shop there when I have been cut off, repeatedly, in line by posh customers--who cuts in front of a mother and four children in line to check out?!). And I may be the only Malibu resident who cares about this, but they don't accept printed coupons. I get it--rich people don't coupon, and neither do rich college students, but I use coupons quite a bit to stretch our food budget. Today I tried to use berry coupons sent directly to me by Driscoll's, and I was told that the store doesn't accept printed coupons because of fraud. As I get lots of coupons emailed to me and use places like coupons.com quite a bit, this was really a bummer. Their store coupons on their app are not great, so it's not like they have a better option. And the cashiers were really accusatory about it, too, like the fact that I was trying to use coupons at their store was somehow suspect. I felt really icky walking out of the store. The options are ok, didn't believe there was much of a prepared foods or salad/ hot bar. The reason I am giving 2 stars, is because I ordered a custom made sandwich at the deli, which the workers were NOT keen on doing for me. The woman (this was in the last 6 months) who started to make the sandwich, did not speak english, and then sneezed on the bread. I looked at her, and I said, please get a new piece of bread, I saw your body fluid from your nose go on that bread. I am not sure if she was new, or just not trained in health code. This establishment is so clean, well supplied and pleasantly staffed. I wish all grocery stores were like this. I think everyone is as happy to be working in Malibu as I am. The sushi is as good as grocery store sushi gets. Just as good as Wholefoods. PC Greens is a great place too. I endorse both but I visit here much much more often as it's located in very close proximity to my place of employment. read more
