I usually have my ID with me when I purchase beer. I'm also usually not carded on account of my densely full beard and obviously 30 year old appearance. Maybe the cashier thought she was doing my daughter a favor by refusing the sale? If so, offense taken. I'm not the type to take a 30 pack to the face. But my game night guests and I might be able to pull it off. Usually I'm recognized by members of the staff at this store. I've been shopping here for three years. Whatever. I took my business to a beverage market instead. Wider selection, better prices, and I was spared the deer in the headlights look the Ralph's cashier gave me when I explained to her she didn't have to turn me away. Of course she didn't call a manger over. I probably should have asked her to do so. She just said "No, I can't." I'm well aware of beverage law. I work in the food and beverage industry, and this cashier was well within her right to turn me away. But as a food and beverage professional myself, I'm also well accustomed to going above and beyond for guests. She could have asked a manager over who would have recognized me or would have easily realized i'm of legal drinking age. I'm disappointed that I can patronize a store for several years and there are instances of zero recognition such as this. I'm not even mad at the cashier! Lady was just trying to do her job. For those that may not know, this location has a kosher section with a kosher deli and bakery. They are currently offering a kosher Thanksgiving dinner. It feeds about 4 people, which is perfect considering there's an ongoing pandemic. It is a bit pricey but saves you the trouble of shopping for all the holiday ingredients. Meal comes precooked but cold, you just take it home and heat it up and you're good to go. They offer two options, you get either a turkey breast dinner or a beef brisket dinner. I had a random midnight hour trip to Ralph's and it was a very pleasant experience. Most of the employees were restocking shelves so the store was riddled with boxes. A few employees took time to greet me and one went out of his way to point me into the direction I needed to be after he witnessed me looking up at aisle signs. There was only 1 cashier and self-checkout was open. I decided to wait in line with 5 other parties. The manager walked past us to remind of that self-checkout was available. I'm not a fan of self-checkout. The night clerk, Charlisa is better than any machine, and had an exceptional personality and joyful disposition. She exemplified what a clerk should be--especially a night clerk. I observed her being kind and respectful to every customer. She greeted a few by name. She makes the shopping experience and standing in a line at midnight A PLEASURE! We need more people like her in the world. read more

I have always have good experience shopping at Ralph in Sherman Oaks- they have awesome staff in every department and they all are super professional and willing to help customers. One of my favorite department is fish and meat counter, particularly Princeton is super knowledgeable about fish and always helpful. Also, Flora in flower section is so kind and does a fast job in servicing customers. Always happy and positive. Not sure who is responsible for the so-called "upgrade" made to the self-check/U-Scan computers, but that useless festering ballbag needs to be fired. It is now three times slower and less capable than the previous program. It frequently doesn't recognize items. The touch screen is not sensitive enough to recognize taps to the display, and some of the produce is actually spelled incorrectly (seriously, HOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN?!). This last issue wouldn't be such a problem had they left it the way it was. I'm a bloody chef, trust when I say I'M NOT SPELLING ZUCCHINI INCORRECTLY :/ Why not use the regular check out lanes? BECAUSE I DON'T WANT THEIR TROGLODYTE STAFF APE-HANDLING MY OVERPRICED PRODUCE, SMASHING MY SOFT CHEESES, OR PUTTING PACKAGES OF RAW CHICKEN IN THE SAME BAG WITH READY-TO-CONSUME FRESH BERRIES AND LETTUCES! OMFGOMFGOMFGOMFG DOES ANYONE IN THE SUPERMARKET WORLD EVEN KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY BAG GROCERIES? Really the responsibility lies in Ralph's Corporate offices, not spending a tiny amount to TRAIN THEIR EMPLOYEES PROPERLY. What do they care? The execs all shop at whole foods anyway..they don't shop at their own stores and if they do they're probably buying premade items and nothing fresh. Just like the employees. I cannot believe anyone who actually eats produce, has ever held a job as a bagger. Put raw poultry at the BOTTOM of the bag, then pork, then fish, then beef.. Chicken liquids should never touch other meats or products because poultry needs to reach the hottest internal cooking temperature to kill salmonella and other bacteria. Your medium rare burger hits about 130F YOUR CHICKEN NEEDS TO HIT 165-170F. Essentially everything that chicken liquid touches MUST NOW BE COOKED TO 170F to avoid illness. Golfclaps to the asshat who kills a small child or elderly patron because of their ignorance. Look, it's not algebra or quantum physics. It's the health and safety of consumers AND A MODICUM OF RESPECT FOR THE MONEY THEY SPEND IN THE STORE THAT EMPLOYS YOU AND PAYS YOU. Frozen items go with frozen items so they all stay cold. Heavy cans and bottles should go at the bottom of the bags (dispersed evenly throughout multiple bags if cheap/thin plastic or paper is being used. IF REUSABLE STURDY BAGS ARE BEING USED PUT THEM IN THE SAME DAMN BAG SO THEY DON'T CRUSH OTHER GROCERIES). Fresh produce goes in the bag together with delicate items like: berries/avocados/tomatoes/fresh herbs/scallions ON TOP. Deli meats and cheeses don't get cooked so don't pack those in with raw meats. Crackers and chips are easily smashed, STOP BAGGING THEM WITH HEAVY CANNED GOODS. Until your staff gets their heads out of their ignorant arses, I'll continue to drag my FULL CART to the U-Scan, and I'll bag my own $175.00 worth of groceries. I lived 2 blocks from this Ralph's, but ended up driving to VONS in Studio City instead! 1-Star for Christy the store manager who was polite & helpful. NEGATIVE 4 STARS for the RUDE, RUDE, RUDE morning bakery staff. I dealt w/2 older hispanic women + 1 MUCH YOUNGER woman, or should I say "girl" I'm guessing around 19yrs old that actually accused me of looking at her to her co-workers when I was simply wondering why she was sitting on a front counter when I needed help picking out a cake for my 9yr old. ( CAN YOU SAY UNPROFESSIONAL?!? OR NARCASSIST MIGHT BE MORE ACCURATE ) Not to mention, she was about a 4 in looks. At least be attractive if not on the outside, on the inside....if you're going to accuse customers of checking you out when they simply need assistance for picking out a cake. Needless to say, when I turned to the other 2 older women for help, they were a bit too busy gossiping amongst themselves to help me. Is it weird to be obsessed with your local grocery store? I LOVE THIS RALPH'S. It's huge, very nicely laid out, and has a great selection of literally everything you could need. But what I really love are the employees! They are always SO helpful, smiling, and a few of them recognize me so they say hello. It makes LA feel like a small town. I was having a bummer day the other week and the checkout guy at Ralph's was so nice to me that it picked my mood right up. It's the little things in life, right? Shopping at Ralph's 222 is like shopping in a dog park. I'm not talking about true needed working service dogs. But customers who refuse to read signs regarding a service dog only policy and continue to walk their pets in the store. Dogs barking in the store, do not make for a pleasant shopping experience, and dogs placed in the seat of carts...ewwww...and placing a piece of cardboard under your dogs butt doesn't make it better. Would have been a five stare hence the unfriendly staff at Starbucks upon each visit. It's as if they are forced to work there, no personality no character. I love walking into Starbucks Bc of not just the drinks but the experience. Please take a shot of happiness espresso before your shift people. I'm scared to even ask for water with my order. FYI I'm Obsessed with Starbucks water. Anyways..... Now the good- This place is a Disneyland of a market. Fresh sushi station, a whole cheese counter with a "cheese expert" available, the freshest cake and cupcakes, great organic selections throughout the store and a kosher section I can go on and on. this ralphs re-opened on the 10th and i couldn't wait to check it out. i have to say it's kinda fancy, but having the store on the second floor or third floor (depending on where you park the car) is a huge inconvenience for customers. what person wants to go up and down the escalator or in a elevator with whole bunch of stuff...grocery shopping is a chore. another thing i wanted to point out is that i thought the seating area is small and not spacious. it is along the window which makes it look like it's open from the outside. another flaw i encountered was trying to push the cart toward the elevator (next to the escalator), i couldn't go through because it was kind of narrow. i had to ask the florist to move the cart a tad bit so i could leave. lastly and more importantly, entering the parking lot is only convenient for customers living on the west or southeast from the store. you are only allowed to make right turns, if you make a left turn into the driveway, someone will be receiving a ticket...it's only a matter of time. i already had called and told one of the managers. let's see what happens. read more

2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 262/365 This is one fancy Ralphs! I remember it being under construction for FOREVER while I used to live in Sherman Oaks. Of course, once I moved out of the area, they finished building it... -_- The biggest perk to me was the fact that they have not one, but TWO levels of garage parking! FREE PARKING! Super awesome! And they have fancy elevators/escalators going from the garages up to the store level. Totally awesome and a big perk! I'm glad this location opened because there really needed to be a better Ralphs location in this area. When I used to live in Sherman Oaks on Woodman, I had two choices: Either go to the ghetto one in Van Nuys on Van Nuys and Burbank, or go to the really busy one in Studio City on Coldwater Canyon where NOBODY seems to know how to drive/navigate through the parking lot. If I still lived in the area, I would definitely go to this Ralphs over those two! Since it's brand new, it's beautiful inside and out. I just did a walk through of the store, but did not purchase anything. Overall, I think if you're in this area this should definitely be your Ralphs of choice. A not-so-huge-of-a-Ralph's fan, here. Are there other cheaper supermarkets? YES Are there other bigger supermarkets with more selection? YES BUUUUUT!!!!! #1: The fruits and veggies are fresh. #2: They have the kookiest thunder track playing through some little speakerphones right before the fruit/veggie sprinklers go off, to warn you, so you back away and don't get wet, which I thought was both thoughtful and weird. And #3, and most importantly: As I was waiting in line to pay for my stuff, the manager himself opened a register and called us. There was only 1 guy before us, with about 4 things to pay for, and they were not ready to close, because they're open 24 hours; yet how many times there is EVERY reason why someone should do that, and no one has the common sense to do it?! Kudos to Mr. Manager. I lied. There's a #4. #4: Mary, the cashier. We actually told Mr. Manager not to worry, cause we weren't in a hurry and the customer in front of us was almost done. Mr. Manager closed Mary's register, because it was time for her break, and cracked a joke I wish I could remember. Ahoy Amigos! I give this Ralphs a two star "Meh. I've experienced better." Rating. Here's the short and skinny: Good- Conveniently located right on Ventura -Big parking lot -For a Ralphs (know what you're getting) it's fine. I actually use this store all the time because it's the closest. -Produce selection is good, and they have a small organic produce area as well. Bad- What's with all the "performers" in the parking lot? Musicians...I guess... But over all a mix of musicians and homeless. Not any more than any other public area along Ventura though. And not so sketchy you couldn't walk to your car or something. -Workers: Pretty grumpy on the whole, but will help you if you need something. -The "thunder and lightening" for the misters in the produce go off about every 2 min. This is the best Ralph's I've ever been to! It's got everything. When my friend and I were trying to find another Ralph's because the one near us sucked, was dirty and had a very small produce section, I choose this location because it had higher stars than the others. The bad reviews must be from the previous location that was torn down, because this place is amazing! I have to admit, I like floofy ritzy areas where you see a lot of business men, rich housewives and hipsters. It's honestly one my guilty pleasures to frequent areas like that because you just get a better, cleaner and overall nicer experience where I feel like my money is well spent. I wouldn't say this Ralph's is like that, but it's as close to that as a Ralph's is going to get. And the area it's in is definitely very nice. Big bonus, the parking garage is not that packed and there were plenty of spaces, which means I could park my hearse there no problem! The lines are not long and there seems to be a lot of cashiers open at once. I have only gone during the day though. Although one of the baggers/cart collectors did hit on me a little in the elevator. Did I mention they have glass elevators? Totally cool! The one thing I really have to emphasize is their sushi kiosk. I rode 15 miles today on my bike for this sushi, because it is so damn good! It's so fresh and very tasty, velvety and they give you a lot for the price. It is far superior than some sushi restaurants I have gone to, even. You can have them made to order if you don't find anything you like in their giant selection. I special order a rainbow roll, which is really only tuna and salmon which are my favs, no avocado and it's STUFFED with either tuna or salmon, not that crabmeat mix! It's so delicious! If you like sushi I highly recommend trying it. I know people can be nervous about supermarket sushi but trust me when I tell you it's worth it! read more

Sometimes I use cash register only if after midnight but mostly I use check out yourself and faster, only if u know how. Some worker are OKAY friendly rarely smiles, some worker in a bad mood on a bad days or whatever. Some worker talk talk talk to other worker like they don't really work and ignore some customer randomly..... For the parking lot situation. You have to be careful where u park, watch out for the working guy who pick up the carts. It's a I think Hispanic Black with black curly hair around 5'5" to 5'9". If he see you like he doesn't like your race, he will push away cart then hit your car or he tried cart going scratch the car. I've seen his behavior. Looks like he's not very happy with his job or take it out on someone who he doesn't like or blame. I was going to call manager but I don't think manager would care for the incident. I prefer to call the headquarter or union. And after midnight, there are some annoying stocker and block your way in some aisles like u can't get food or drink or etc. Really some stocker don't seem to care. Geez!. read more

This Ralphs is open again as of a couple days ago. I have been looking forward to the reopening for months. Not that I'm a huge Ralph's fan, but it's nice to have a place nearby to get toilet paper at 11pm on a Sunday. This Ralph's is much bigger than the old one they tore down, but doesn't seem to have much more selection available. Mostly it seems to be built on the CVS model whereby the shelves are filled with multiple rows of the same items. The types of items that they do have more selection of seem to be the highly processed foods, like crackers and soda. Whereas the produce section, while attractive, is disproportionately small. Pluses: There is a kosher section. The beauty and bath sections are better than the Savon selection in the old store. Ralph's cake slices. Deli sandwiches. Minuses: The store is not easy to navigate - just figuring out how to get into the store from the lower parking lot is confusing, and once inside the store it's difficult to see what's in each aisle from some parts of the store because the signs are only in the front. It didn't help that while I was there a man was walking around the bulk candy aisle sticking his gross greasy mitt into the bins and stuffing his gob with licorice and chocolate covered peanut clusters. Whatever you do, do not buy anything from those bins. read more

This place is awesome because of the people who stock the produce but wow the manager is a SCAM. Tonight I left my phone in the bathroom stall and luckily my boyfriend was with me and my e went on find my iPhone and I saw that it WAS there after the manager had just told me no sorry I just had someone check and there is nothing here then hung up on me. I get there and ask a very nice lady to call the manager for me and she does and he doesn't even say a word to me or the lady employee who was helping me, rolls his eyes and tells another employee "give it to her." I thoroughly enjoy going to this grocery shop after I exercise! Not only is it a grocery, it also has a create-your-own sushi bar and a Starbucks inside of it. This Ralph's isn't like most Ralph's because this one in particular actually emphasizes fresh and organic produce while still having grocery store favorites and necessities. I am so happy that I am moving closer to this location because now I get to shop here more often. Loove their ready made food selection! you must try the chicken sushi - it's unlike anything I've ever had and best of all, no fish if you're not in the mood! it really fills you up and it's a great quick snack on the go or to take for lunch. It's also exclusive to this Ralph's only! They have a starbucks inside, a salad bar, an olive bar, deli sandwiches with boar's head meat selections, a large cheese section with all kinds from different places, and of course, a sushi bar. They also have ready made food like beef, chicken, mac n cheese, soups, sushi bowls... I mean, this place has it all! After you peruse their food section you can do your groceries. They carry brands from all kinds ranging from your typical name brand to their own store brand. The produce section is exceptional and the quality is great! I've never had a bad experience here, food and otherwise. Customer service is top notch and they go above and beyond to help you out! read more

Ralphs - Thank you Flora ! - Grocery Near Me - Sherman Oaks, California

The Sherman Oaks Ralph's is a huge complex of grocery goodness, conveniently located right on Ventura. Parking isn't usually too much of a hassle as long as it's not rush hour, though there are some issues with the lot that I'll get to in a sec. Upon ascending the escalator and grabbing a cart, the scene that it laid before you is quite impressive. This is a huge store by most grocery standards. The layout is pretty decent, with a large produce and deli section right up front, along with a very respectable cheese section. The deli is staffed by a friendly lot, and all of the standard meats and cheeses, though the service at the deli is slooooooow. I often just grab a number and walk away. I can usually do the rest of my shopping by the time my number is called. Seafood is fresh. There's a nice selection of breads and wine. Pretty much anything you need is there and easy to find, with one exception: shredded cheese. I'm serious. This Ralph's, with all of its overflowing abundance, has a surprisingly small selection of shredded cheese. I know, fresh cheese is better, but I hate cleaning my shredder and scuffing my knuckles. I just want to find a convenient bag of Italian 6-cheese blend and be on my way. That said, pretty much everything else you need is there, though Sunday evenings tend to find the shelves relatively bare, having been picked clean by the weekend shoppers. The prices are right, and that's what makes Ralph's a good place to shop. The deals that can be found there outdo pretty much every other local chain. My final complaint is with the parking lot and the distinct lack of cart returns and cart paths. They are there, tucked at the very end of the rows, which means that it's likely a 50-yard hike to the nearest one. I try to be a good citizen, but it appears I'm in the distinct minority here, because most people just leave their carts strewn haphazardly in the parking spaces. Getting back to your car with a cart full of groceries can also be a pain, since there are no paths between the parking spaces. Your options if you're not parked in the first row are to go all the way around the end, or take your chances and try to navigate your cart in between two Teslas and hope you don't end up scraping one of them. In fact, being parked anywhere but the first row puts you at such a significant disadvantage, that people will stalk and wait for an abnormally long time, which can really hold up everyone else trying to park. Good prices and friendly service make Ralph's my go-to store. I just hope they sacrifice a few spaces to make parking a lot more user-friendly. read more

I've always liked coming to this particular Ralph's because they have an indoor garage rather than an open air parking lot. Also, it's a "fresh fare" location and the employees and clientele are generally nicer relative to at other locations. Today however, I was disappointed by an arrogant and rude manager/assistant manager/or some other employee aside from the typical bagger/cashier/shelver! This younger male in black slacks and white collared shirt nearly knocked me over as he passed me going through a checkout stand. I feel bad for Ralph's management. It would have been impossible to live up to the high expectations generated by two years of construction. I'm glad that I now can enter from the street without navigating the parking lot on foot. I hate the escalator system; you have to wait to get out of the store and there have been a couple of times when the cart transporter stalls and shoppers are congregated at the foot of the escalator waiting for it to be rebooted so we can get our purchases. Also, the fire alarm goes off for unknown reasons - painfully ear-splitting, and the checkers go about their tasks with one finger in an ear. Otherwise, once one is comfortable with the different layout, there's the same great wine deals and an expanded drugstore section and kitchen goods section that are fantastic. The self-checkout center has been expanded and is a welcome addition. Also, word on the streets (gossip from other Ralph's during construction) is that only the best of the Valley Ralph's employees were allowed to interview for jobs at the shiny new store. I had the best roast beef sandwich from the deli at the fairly new Ralphs in Sherman Oaks, and seriously no one better to have your sandwich made by than by a man-that's my personal feeling. This guy, Robert in the deli made a very delicious sandwich and seemed to really enjoy his job. This makes dealing with employees so much more pleasing. Generally poor layout / path of travel throughout store. Buggies kept coming nose to nose with each other- especially in produce. Traffic jams throughout store (store was only moderately busy). Interior design complexity appears low budget and not reflective of modern capabilities. Signage is lacking and/or blends within their surroundings (digital signage would be good). Parking garage had no designated pedestrian crossings to enter/exist the store (that i could see) (cars and peds seemed confused as to who had the right of way). Was expecting much better based on the hype. Excited to research the firm who designed this store. For now, I'll stick to my smaller Studio City Ralphs. :) read more

Moved in down the street. Very nice store, great selection, very clean and helpful and friendly folks working there.
