Great service,our party of 8 tried here after getting turned away from another restaurant being booked. Made a quick call to see if they had room, which they did. Small location, fair prices, good service. Appreciated that they assigned 2 servers to our party which you do not see often anymore. Everyone enjoyed their meal- Tuscan ziti, seafood platter, shrimp/seafood scampi, vodka pasta, Alfredo chicken. This place is as close to horrible as it gets. Swansons makes a veal parm TV dinner that beats this place. First of all, chicken parm isn't authentic Italian nor is 1000 island dressing. If your idea of quality Italian food is the Olive Garden, then I suggest you run, not walk to the nearest one ( right down the street ) Not sure where the " veal patty" came from but it was certainly not a calf. And I don't eat any kind of "patty" anyway. Subway also has meatballs as does this place. Difference? They aren't still frozen in the middle at Subway, plus, since you are at a Subway, you expect sub par food. There are WONDERFUL Italian restaurants here in Myrtle Beach. The night before the 2014 Myrtle Beach SC marathon, my friends and I decided to do dinner at the Ramando's Italian restaurant. It was a toss up between that or Olive Garden. We were an indecisive bunch, as we were driving on Kings Highway, looking at where to go. We settled on this place since it looked good on the outside. Turns out that it was a good choice, since one friend PR'ed in the race, the other ran sub 4 (first), and for myself, I helped 3 first time marathoners cross the finish line. It was a great feeling to have kept them motivated when they felt like quitting. I didn't have time to look up reviews on yelp to make a uniformed decision, so it was a serendipitous choice, and it worked out reasonably well. The experience was okay and the ambiance was decent. It seemed like everyone who was racing Myrtle Beach was eating here as well. Ramando's Italian restaurant is located on 2001 North Kings Highway aka US Highway 17, basically the main thoroughfare through Myrtle Beach (north/south). While it was busy and entertaining, we arrived about 6:30pm on a Friday night and got seated almost immediately. It was pretty good. The service throughout could be categorized as robotic, since she just took our orders and whisked away without really telling us specials or even smiling. Oh well, that's alright I suppose. The ambiance was sort of loud. We sat near a group of 1st time marathoners and they were kind of loud talking about training and laughing. It was cute till one of my friends started ask them if they were running their first marathon tomorrow. What followed was me ending up telling the group how much marathons I've done and where I was from. I guess you had to be there. Reaction was priceless. ;) That always is a good feeling. Lol With that said, I had ordered the steak and pasta, which at $18.95 was a bargain for sure. I ultimately boxed up the pasta bowl (penne pasta with tomato sauce) and had it before the race the next morning. The steak came with a baked potato and some grilled veggies. The baked potato was pretty good, although I had to ask for ranch dressing to give it some zest to it. The steak was ordered medium rare and it was tender to the taste. And that was without needing any steak sauce. The taste of the steak was good, although to get a better slice of beef, I may have been better off at Outback Steakhouse or Ruth Chris, but it was good here at Ramando's Italian Restaurant. Only problem was that the gratuity was already added automatically to the bill and it was 15%. I had reservations about this one, but at least it beats paying 20%, that's for sure. I didn't think it was 15% service, but the food was delicious, the service was okay. The overall experience was good and recommended if you like Italian food. While the menu options were up there in terms of price, you would definitely get your money's worth up in this joint. Parking here can be limited, but there was a few stalls open when we got here. It was hit or miss all around, especially food quality. A good rule is probably to always get the house specialty, in this case Italian something. I got the strip steak (& always order steak well done.) While it had a nice grill char flavor, it was rather tough, chewy & fatty. I know steaks can be cooked to well & still be tender, delicious & full of flavor. Baked potato was over-cooked & old tasting. I tasted my sister-in-law's lasagne & it was super delicious, with lots of cheese, sauce & ground beef flavors mixing together for a long-cooked flavor. Wish I'd gotten that! My mother-in-law got spaghetti & meatballs & noted after a couple bites that she could make better. She's a good cook so that's certainly true. My husband got a seafood plate & that was uneven - grouper, not good at all, but he liked the shrimp & crab cakes. Service was good & attentive, but overall a forgettable meal. read more

This visit I added mushrooms and loved them. Everyone at my table loved their selections and here are some specifics. Best meatballs in the business, "hands-down". Pasta primavera is excellent. Penna pasta with diavola sauce is spicy and delicious. Solid garden salad with thousand island dressing. Fantastic garlic bread and Magdalena never let my diet soda get low. They say it's good to start with the good, so I guess the entrance was great, they sat us right away, maybe because it wasn't that full, which was interesting since it was dinner time, and we were expecting a wait. Waiter came by, nice guy, took our drink order. Did great there. Took our order, ohhh... lost him there, I think we disappointed him since we ordered a pizza, I tried saving the situation by ordering some mussels, Yeah, didn't work. The appetizer came, and we wanted some bread, I mean it's an Italian restaurant, don't they usually give you some, it's like going to a Mexican restaurant and getting chips and salsa, the two go hand in hand... nope not here, they only offer if you order a meal, not a pizza, and they get offended when you ask... I will say another good thing, the mussels were really good. The onion soup was ehh somewhat bland, but the cheese was good. Now for the pizza, best way to explain it, lil ceasars pizza meets a brick oven... I hate to say that, but it was nothing special. So I guess the main question is, will I come back, I doubt it, at least I can say I tried it. read more

Service is slow depending who you get. They charge you for bread. Food is OK. The owners are Greek. Servers are from all places in Europe and are worked like slaves. They also need to pay the owners 10% of all their tips. So keep that in mind. read more

Unbelievably perfecto! We enjoyed the shrimp & scallop mornay and chicken piccata. Both were prepared to perfection. Our servers and all staff were attentive but not obtrusive with water always full, one request for more wine, and server always available. The salads that came with the meal were fresh and fantastic. The wine list was nice but wish that it had included a Montalcino or perhaps any of the Le Palaie wines. While the cheesecake was excellent, the brownie had a large section of crispy over baked chocolate right in the middle of the dessert. We intended to return the next evening because overall, this restaurant seemed to be a gem in the rough of chains and typical Myrtle Beach fried seafood offerings. Freshness was the key! A great little hole in the wall with delicious garlic bread and solid (though not outstanding) pasta. I had the manicotti, which came out as a delicious crock of gooey cheese, plenty of sauce, and a generous portion of baked cheese (the quickest way to my heart). My dad said the lasagna was decent but could use a little more flavor. Desserts of NY Style Cheesecake with Strawberries and cannoli were also tasty, but not mind blowing. There is a great ambiance here, although I'd probably go crazy if I had to work here and listen to That's Amore every day. Since I don't know nearly as much about wine as I do about beer, I asked the waitress for a recommendation between the 6 or so glasses they offered, something not too dry but not too sweet. She proceeded to recommend everything BUT the one that actually had "sweet" in the name. :) She had an ADORABLE accent though, so I'll let it slide. Decent Italian place considering it's in a tourist town. If you like basic pasta and generic Italian food, it's perfect. Every meal comes with a side salad and garlic bread. However, my "house salad" was a bed of lettuce with one sliced cucumber and one tomato. The garlic bread was essentially just sliced, toasted and buttered; no garlic taste at all (despite the restaurant's garlicky aroma). I had the Penne Alla Vodka. Very basic but satisfied my craving. My friends had the Ravioli al Forno, Chicken Fettucine, and the Chicken Marsala and were all happy with it. Decent, but not great, Italian food. The service was mediocre. The waitress was overly eager to refill our water glasses every chance she got, but took forever to bring out the salad and bread. After we got our food, she completely disappeared and took a while to clear our plates, get our check and return with it. read more

Ramando's is my favorite local Italian restaurant. I have been coming here for about 25 years, as a tourist, and now a local. I recommend this place every time I get a chance. My usual is Veal Parmesan w/penne pasta & house salad with Italian dressing. Portions are always plentiful, and the taste is fantastic. I've never encountered an instance where I thought the salad was too small, as other reviews have stated. Out of the dozens and dozens of times going to Ramando's, I've only had a bad meal once. My mother gets the filet mignon and it is usually on point. My father is a big fan of the chicken cacciatore. As much as I like the bread at the Italian chain restaurants, the garlic bread at Ramando's is great. The owner's and service are always on point. There is a reason this place has been around for years....plus John Travolta has eaten here! read more

What a terrible disappointment! This place was recommended by our concierge who gave us a bogo entree coupon. The Yelp reviews were good so we'd decided to try it even though it looked a bit sketchy on the outside. We ordered a bottle of wine to start which was fine. We then settled on the veal parm and the veal ramundo. The starter salad was very basic, which would have been ok, but your choice of dressing was Italian or ranch. We asked if the Italian was a house dressing and were told it was. When it came out it was obviously a bottled dressing which they served in a plastic cup with a lid on it. The entrees came out and the veal parm was passable but the veal ramundo was awful. The sauce was broken and there was oil all over my plate. The veal was unrecognizable and I literally had to spit some out because I bit into some fatty tissue. I didn't send it back because I never want an angry chef working on my meal! I am surprised by most of the reviews for this restaurant. I am an Italian foodie from New York so I know good Italian food. This food was mediocre especially for a restaurant with 4 stars. I made a reservation with my family and was VERY disappointed. To start, our server did not pay much attention to us. We had to nearly beg for our waters to be refilled and waited at least 10 minutes for her to notice us and give us the check. On top of that, gratuity was included in the bill and I would never tip that much for such sub-par service. Our waitress visited our table 4 times total. The food was... edible, I tried everyones food at my table as there was leftovers for all of us. The marsala sauce tasted more like gravy and simply wasn't good. The minestrone soup might as well have been Progresso canned soup. The marinara sauce was no better than jarred sauce. Both the chicken parm and eggplant parm tasted off, it was nothing like what an authentic Italian restaurant would serve. My sister got the eggplant parm and took 2 bites and was done. The shrimp were small and looked frozen. As a penne alla vodka lover, their's was disappointing and had no flavor. The portions were also small given the high price. The only thing that was actually good was the garlic bread. All in all, you could tell this restaurant was not authentic and that there was most likely no Italians in the kitchen. I would never go here again. If you are considering Italian, don't go here, go to Hot Tomato around the corner. I have been to Hot Tomato twice and the food there was OUTSTANDING. Came here with my wife on our honeymoon. We got the chicken romando and the baked ziti and were very unimpressed. The chicken romando was supposed to be a house special and was the very definition of bland and flavor less. The chicken tasted like it had just been boiled and thrown in with a random mixture of pasta, sauce and veggies. This food later made me sick in the night. My wife's bakes ziti was a very average mixture of ziti with red sauce and a lot of cheese. My wife also wanted me to add that the price is rather high for the poor quality product. The only reason I give it two stars is that it tasted like they were using fresh ingredients. Just need to work on their seasoning and creativity. read more

Fans of Italian food, including locally-operated establishments in DC, western NC and the RDU area, a discount coupon in one of the local tourism books nudged us to give another local eatery a try. In brief, varied menu offering ample portions, passable service, tattering décor, convenient location. Relieved that unlike other venues open off-season, the restaurant was neither busy nor dead. Someone possibly of the management family was hosting guests at a table near the kitchen, adding a bit to the "family" atmosphere. Festive, glasses clinking, I appreciated their presence to add to the atmosphere on a coolish, damp evening. The atmosphere/décor is dated--"fading grace," seemingly common in locally-owned Myrtle Beach and other coastal establishments (see my DelMarVa peninsula reviews of early 2104.). Aging furnishings probably are part of the cause of the sometimes-noted peculiar aromas/odors. The evening we were there, the aroma of tomatoes and garlic were most-noted, and not unpleasant. Our server, perhaps uncomfortable with a language barrier (We are native speakers of English.), wasn't as warm/welcoming as one might have expected at a "family owned/operated" Italian restaurant. She was moderately attentive-- beverage glasses went nearly empty, but empty plates did languish a bit at the table. More frequent check-backs, especially given the restaurant wasn't swamped, would have been nice. The garlic-laced bread arrived warm, and, with the long-ish wait for our orders, welcome. There was no additional charge, unlike some other establishments. Our complimentary salads were very simple: iceberg lettuce, a cucumber slice and a single cherry tomato, Served upon request with dressing on the side--a basic additional vegetable serving before the entrees. We ordered Lasagna, Chicken Tuscana, and Chicken Ramando's, a house specialty. All portions were generous--leftovers came home with us. The ground beef lasagna was ample, filling, very mildly seasoned, exactly what a more-sensitive tummy wanted. The Chicken Tuscana highlights were the mushrooms and red peppers. I'd hoped for a more...long-simmered, nuanced marinara sauce, but it wasn't BAD either. Everyone's favorite was the Chicken Ramando's, with mushrooms, carrots, and feta cheese (Adriatic Sea cross-pollenation?). Almost a pity the seeming creativity invested in this dish didn't resonate in the other entrees as well. I've read complaints over prices, but we found $9.95 - 17.95 to be comparable to local, regional and national Italian chain prices. Given the portions, we felt they were fair. When we went in it was quiet because it was late in the day. It was nice and clean. My wife had the chicken tuscana and said it was good, not great. It was prepared well but the taste was good. My mom had baked ziti and said the same thing. Dad had sausage and pepper rustica (I may have spelled that wrong) and said it was excellent with a good blend of spices but not too overpowering and the sausage was "better than average". I had the chicken fettuccine alfredo and thought it was just ok. The chicken was a little overcooked and pretty tough and flavorless. The fettucine alfredo itself was decent, good not great. The bread served was pretty good though. We first went here 3 years ago and it was great! Great authentic food and the service was terrific. Have referred many people to this place. But we returned recently to celebrate a family Birthday and things have changed. Although the food was still good but nowhere near what it was. The spaghetti sauce was bland and was plain sauce. The meatballs were the frozen fatty kind. Very disappointing . the service was horrible. Our waitress was rude, argued with us and reached continually over our plates. She forgot items and food was served warm at best. Will not go back and will no longer refer. read more

You would think coming to eat at 3:30 in the afternoon the service would be decent. Took 25 minutes just to get our appetizer and a salad and we'd been there for about 45 minutes before we got our entrees. The sign outside says the 'best lasagna' and it was far from that. The beef was gray and had no flavor. It would have tasted better as a vegetarian without the meat. The pizza clearly had frozen dough that was used for it as it tasted like cardboard.
