Am I invisible? I sure felt like it inside this business. Despite being the only customer waiting at the counter for service and there being 3 employees behind the counter. They talked to one another and laughed but no one greeted me, told me they would be right with me, or asked for my order. I studied the menu and knew I wanted a bagel and a coffee but after about 5 minutes of being ignored I walked out. They obviously didn't want my money. read more

Employees need to make a better effort to connect with the people standing in their cafe trying to order coffee on that dumb kiosk they apparently force on you. Coffee was OK, but the bagel, egg and bacon sandwich was very lacking. A couple tiny pieces of very, VERY limp bacon were hiding under there. Had to seriously look for it. Didn't look at all like the images I saw posted by other customers. The bagel tasted ultra-processed or something. I was expecting better quality. And don't believe what it says in that kiosk. They don't have some of those things. There were a lot of employees kind of standing around but none seemed interested in helping us place the order which took way too long and felt like a lot of work and was super irritating. I said I was "ready" after looking at the digital menu (which switches out way too quickly) and the employee pointed at the kiosk. Seriously.... I'll stick with French Truck and Jo Jo's Espresso. You can go in there and actually talk with the employees and order like a normal person. They don't hide from you and talk to each other. The two stars is for the coffee, not the service or food. This place is way too impersonal and employees need training on customer service. read more

We stopped here because we needed to get some coffee on our drive back to Houston. SO glad we did - this coffee shop is SO cute. The location is quite small so it probably wouldn't be the first place I think of if I wanted to meet up with someone. They had a decent amount of seating, but not much. Their outdoor patio is nice as well - love all the blue! Nice pop with the black color of the building. We went with their sea salt caramel latte after it came highly recommended from one of their baristas. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. It was so yummy and not overly sweet. Love their cups and overall vibe - I'd come back. read more

Really smooth coffee! Had the ugly mocha and an ugly roll. Mine was more like a butter roll? They didn't have icing so they put some honey on it and it was divine! Not many places to sit so you may find yourself in your car. Staff was helpful. read more

I love me some Ugly Mug. First of all- a coffee drive through in Memphis that's not Starbucks?! Yes please!!! I will literally drive 10 mins out of the way to grab this before heading home. They're in a great location, too. I love that they not only roast their own beans (to perfection), but they do double strength drinks and special milks or toppings at no extra cost!! Their soy milk cortado is my new faaaav, so good. All of their specialty drinks are, too. I also recently tried their cubano- SO. GOOOOD! To be a drive through coffee shop, they made an excellent sandwich. Ugly Mug is the best!! read more

Slow service due to inside and drive through service, but everyone seems to work hard. The espresso pull just wasn't that good. No doubt the sweet lattes might be good, but as a cortado or Americano - it's just sour. The employees seemed nice and busy. read more

I will always support the local business, small business like ugly mug. I am always here some days the line may move slower, but for the most part they are pretty quick. My regular is cup of medium roasted coffee. Nothing fancy but make super smooth and nice taste. Ethiopian flavor is also another favorite. Love this place! read more

They have a drive thru which is always convenient when on the go but today I walked in. Ordered an iced vanilla latte with oat milk, it was delicious. Prices were comparable to others but slightly cheaper. Baristas were friendly Only thing I had trouble with was ordering, they have a self service ordering system which I'm not used to but it was pretty simple, just answer a few questions. Eeeep! Go go go! What are you waiting for? DON'T GO TO STARBUCKS IF YOU'RE IN TOWN. I visited Memphis 2 months ago and found this gem. Local coffee shop, interior design is as the name suggests which is über adorable and fun to gaze through as you're sleepily sipping your coffee. Staff is incredibly spunky and friendly. I believe I ordered a latte and egg sandwich, reasonably priced. Coffee was delicious and I believe you can order coffee from different countries, if you're ready to spice up your morning. I cannot recommend this place enough. I went twice during my short 2 day trip and raved about it to my friends wishing we had something similar in Miami. GO! read more

I drive pass this place all the time and finally decided to make a stop today. I thought they only served coffee but there's a full menu. I should've taken a picture of the chalkboard with the sandwich of the day. I like cutesy things like that. I told the guy in the drive thru that this is my first time. I'm looking for something hot and sweet so what does he suggest. He suggested the full moon latte. And checking out the website, I understand why this is the most popular drink. Roasted: the name of this place intrigued me and was hoping to get my coffee out of an ugly mug by coming here. It's a small coffee shop with a drive thru and about 12 seats inside. There are ugly mugs lining the cafe which are a nice touch to the name. The service here was great - they were very friendly and engaging. They asked if we were staying here or not and was expecting my latte to be in a mug but I was disappointed when it came out in a paper cup. The latte was good - I would drink it again but wouldn't necessarily seek this place out again. Latte was missing art and the foam was very bubbly. Unroasted: very small shop with very friendly staff. Love the ugly mugs all around. I got excited about drinking my latte in one of them but sadly we did not. We ordered bagels and she did ask for here or to go but we didn't get a mug option. I guess it's just easier to make in a to go cup. Latte was pretty good and didn't need to add sugar. I would recommend this place for tourists who want an cool concept and a decent coffee. read more

As I'm typing up this review, I'm cursing myself out for not coming here sooner. I've lived in Memphis for nearly a year and today happened to be my very first time at Ugly Mugs. Everytime I drive by, there's a long line, making me skip over. Anyways, up early on a bright sunny Sunday, I stopped by when it opened up. One customer ahead of me. Waited a few minutes for my iced black mocha. Muffin on the side. One sip made my day. It's that damn good. Perfectly made. No flaws. Just so yummy. This place should be on your list of must go's in Memphis. Even if you're a tourist staying in downtown, find a way to come here. A billion times better than Starbucks! read more

I love this location. The staff is uber friendly. Everyone is there because they choose to be and it shows. I love the menu, the array of coffee's, and the selection of non-dairy milk products. I'm thankful that they were able to stand tall and strong through the pandemic! About nine months ago a barista suggested that I try a specialty drink and I have been addicted ever since! Trust me when I say the best coffee I've ever tried! The coffee aromas were amazing once we set them in our cup holder! I tried the blue suede macchiato with oat milk and it was a combination of amazing flavors nothing like I've ever tried before! You can taste the banana for sure! I think I would have given five stars but my food was very cold. I do understand that the inside is closed and that's understandable because of covid. The drive-thru was extremely fast and my barista was friendly. Luckily I had enough time to go explore Memphis a title bit more before heading back to Jackson. It would have been extremely disappointing if that was my only breakfast before stopping again. read more

David worked in the family coffee business since 1994 and soon became the head coffee roaster. His joy of traveling and discovering unique coffees from around the world led to the development of the story of Ramblin joes.

Normally it comes with vegan sausage. No. Absolutely not. Life is too short. I asked if they could substitute chicken instead. They didn't blink. No sigh. No "let me ask." No drama. Just an effortless, "Sure." About four minutes later--and I was the kind of hungry where I'd have considered eating the menu--that masterpiece landed in front of me. Friends... I've eaten breakfast from San Francisco to New York, from roadside diners to hotel brunches where they charge you because they know you'll pay. This was the best breakfast hash I've ever eaten. The chicken was juicy. The sweet potatoes had actual personality instead of being sugary mush. The sautéed spinach deserved its own fan club. Then there was the sunny-side-up egg. Listen carefully. A proper sunny-side egg is one of the great disappearing arts. This one had crisp edges worthy of applause while the yolk remained gloriously molten, ready to flood every bite with liquid gold. Not greasy. Not overloaded with salt. Not trying to impress Instagram. Just perfect. Then there was the vodka. And bless these people... When they say "well vodka," they apparently interpret that as, "Let's not insult the customer." They pour a genuinely respectable shot instead of the microscopic chemistry experiment too many places call a cocktail. It arrived with our chasers in what felt like under a minute. That's confidence. That's hospitality. That's Memphis. The music stayed exactly where good restaurant music belongs--in the background. Cool enough to create atmosphere but never loud enough to hijack conversation. Whoever curates that playlist deserves a raise. I intended to carefully analyze every flavor. Instead, I inhaled the contents of that little cast-iron skillet with the elegance of a starving wolf wearing a necktie. By the time I thought, "I should really study the seasoning..." there was nothing left but an empty cast-iron skillet, one lonely hash brown that had escaped onto the plate like the last survivor of a glorious battle, and absolutely zero regrets. Here's the dangerous thing about Liquor Store: Nothing feels forced. Nothing screams for attention. Nobody acts like they're doing you a favor. The entire experience is so effortlessly dialed in that excellence feels completely ordinary--which is probably the highest compliment I can give a restaurant. We had a long drive ahead of us toward Bristol, and I genuinely didn't want to leave Memphis because it meant leaving this place behind. If I were on death row and the warden slid the final meal request across the table? I'd hand it back with two words. "Liquor Store." Then I'd ask Tyler to bring one more of those gloriously generous well-vodka pours while the kitchen wizard cracked one last sunny-side egg--the kind with crisp, lacey edges and a yolk so perfectly runny it ought to be protected by federal law. I brought this to her attention, and instead of her honestly reflecting and saying, you know what I should have asked you can I take your order, she proceeded to defend her actions and say, how nice she was and how she wrote my name on my cup - - as if this was a treat for me or something out of the ordinary. We need to do better. As a labor and employment attorney, I know that she needs retraining, and specifically on this issue: that she does not have a choice on how she renders service on behalf of Starbucks. Starbucks' expectation is that every customer receives great customer service not just when she feels like delivering it. If she is indeed a supervisor, this Starbucks location is in trouble because its customers' experiences will be at her whim.
