    Tonkatsu Ramen
    Jocelyn F.

Sleepy ramen place perfect for a lunch meeting, if you're comfortable with slurping soup together. Quick and pleasant service. Could turn off the country music though. Had the Tonkatsu and Shoyu Ramen. Liked the shoyu more since it had more depth and the chashu egg, but both were good.

This Ramen House is the best I have found in Anchorage so far. It sits back of Firewood near the corner of CST. It has tables for 42 with 9-4 toppers and 1 six, plusa counter for 5. It is family friendly and a great place for lunch and dinner. The Yelp listing belonged to a former owner and shows the restaurant closed. It is obviously wrong and when I discussed it with the owners they said they couldn't change the listing, but they have a website at www.Ramenhousealaska.com. Please check there as they are open for lunch and dinner. See photos of their menu for hours and days. They specialize in Ramen, Curry and Sushi dishes or offerings. They have others on the menu. The items are priced very reasonable from $9.00 appetizers to most dishes in the mid teens to one at $23. Excellent for Anchorage today. I had the #10 Special Tolnkotsu Ramen with noodles at heat level 8. They grade how hot u think you can eat by 1 to 10. 1 being mild to 10 hot hot . I can eat very hot so I choose the 8. But half way through I added one spoon of Chili Sauce. If you start low, they give you a small jar of Chili Sauce with a tiny spoon. Best if you don't know how hot you can handle, to start with one spoon and stir it in and taste. If u need more add one at a time and taste until you feel it is hot enough. If you add to much without tasting it is very hard to lower the heat. This dish contains spiced ground beef and pork, vegetables, an egg half, a spicy tomato sauce or at least a read color. It has ample amounts of perfectly done semi thick noodles than were very flavorful. The vegetables were also cooked well and tasty. I was so pleased I ordered to servings to go home for later.

Stopped her for lunch with my elderly aunt and uncle . My uncle ordered the pork katsu. The pork was crunchy with a dipping sauce and some white rice, he ate it all. I got the miso veggie pho, probably the bet I've had. Sushi was good too according to last member of my party . Place was nicely decorated and waitstaff were very nice

Worst ramen I've ever had! Ordered with beef & pork but only gave bits of uncooked ground beef. Scam artists! Also ordered blue rice & chicken for the same price of & $18 for small pieces of chicken. Portions are way too small!! They are scamming.

Every time we come to this restaurant, the dishes (Ramen) ALWAYS DELICIOUS & ON POINT! The service is outstanding! Having lunch there was comfortable and enjoyed our time there...

I wouldn't eat from here again. Overall food quality was not so great. Gyoza had an off putting smell and taste kind of like the filling was past it's prime. Ramen broth was murky in flavor. Spicy tuna was good.

The Tonkatsu Ramen and Gyoza was excellent. The service was fast and friendly (the owners work as server and cook) and the restaurant was clean and bright.

Cute interior! Menu is straight forward and you have a lot of choices for ramen, sushi on the other side (not as much- fairly basic rolls). Taste wise- traditional and nothing fancy. But very delicious! I ordered the cheese ramen, poke bowl, and chicken katsu curry w rice. Finished it all! Poke was freeesh! I'll be back! Family friendly as well. Quick service and food took maybe 10 minutes from ordering to ta

Called ahead for Leila they need a 30 minute heads up for their Gluten Free noodles to prepare. Leila got the Miso Ramen she substituted corn out and added seaweed. and I got the Spicy Miso Ramen I love the richness of this broth and at a Spice Level of 7. They do a 1-10 spice level. Judy fell in love with mine last time so she's getting exactly the same as me but she's going with a Spice Level 8. I think I got Judy's head cold so feeling a need for warm soup - the spice should clear out my sinuses! YEAH Just what the Doctor Ordered!

I tried the Spicy Miso Ramen and it quite average. There was virtually no meat, while there was an over abundance of ramen noodles.

Ask the Community - Ramen House

Anyone know why it's well after 5 on a Saturday and they are still saying closed?

Maybe they were still getting everything ready for their dinner hours.

    Is the veggie ramen vegan?

Yes it's a vegetable based broth.

Is this just ramen noodles I can buy at the store?

It's a Ramen restaurant. They serve primarily ramen bowls (amazing ramen bowls). I believe there are other items on the menu as well. If you like ramen, this is a great lunch or dinner spot for you.

Very nice staff and attentive and judging by all the people that waited to get in at opening, they are popular. The atmosphere was pleasant enough, clean and good lighting. Back to the ramen, I know I said it was good but I've lived in Hawaii where there are many ramen restaurants and was looking for different flavor profiles for their broth that I have found on the islands perhaps. This is definitely a "me thing" as I have a couple of friends who absolutely love this place. I would come again since Anchorage's options are limited as well as I know I'll receive good service.

Overall SOLID 4 Stars!…read more There are about half dozen Japanese restaurants in Anchorage, and after reviewing them on Yelp, we decided to visit this establishment. Ambiance 4 Stars - The restaurant is quaint and has limited seating (about dozen tables) and 6 bar seats. When you entered, the decorum feels like you have been transported to Japan and are eating at a local restaurant for the average hardworking people. I felt comfortable and relaxed. Lucky for us, we were able to be seated immediately because when it gets busy, there will be line out the door. And in 20 degree weather, that's not my cup of "matcha" tea. LOL! Service 4 Stars - I believe the restaurant is family owned and operated. Limited staff but the friendly, fast and efficient. Our server recommended several dishes which we ordered on a cold night. Only "ding" to our server was she didn't ask about our drinks. We were served water but she didn't take our drink order which was fine because of the yummy noodle broth we ordered. This place specializes in Japanese noodles, so don't expect a Hibachi show or variety of different sushi options. Their sushi option is very limited and you are not going to order teriyaki chicken with fried rice here. The star of the show are Japanese inspired noodle dishes and Katsu (deep fried Pork or Chicken). Food SOLID 4 Stars - We ordered Four dishes 1. 3 Stars - Pork Katsu - deep fried panko coated Pork with a tiny accompaniment of sliced cabbage. The Tonkatsu sauce (made of ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, Worcestershire sauce, ginger, and garlic), was liberally squeezed on the top of the dish. It was good but parts of the meat was slightly dry and the panko had a slight burnt taste to it. Possibly it was left in the fryer a little bit longer than it should. 2. 4 Stars - Kimchi Pork Tonkutso Miso Ramen Kimchi inspired w Chasu (pork belly), bean sprouts, green onions, one halved hard boiled egg, garlic flakes and ramen noodles. The ramen were al dente, had a slight chewy texture and it was a great way to soaked up the Miso broth. The miso broth was light and clear. Not as fatty or heavy as some other broths can be but had a wonderful flavor due to the other ingredients in it. This dish is loaded with Kimchi, so it might get a spicy. The Pork Katsu was a great palate cleanser to the kimchi heat. 2. 4 Stars Shoyu Ramen - same ingredients as above without the Kimchi. Also, is it chicken broth with soy sauce. The broth is light, slightly salty, and darker due to the added soy sauce. 3. 4 Stars Naruto Udon - chicken broth, shiitake mushrooms, freshly ground ginger and garlic, seaweed paper, green onions and bean sprouts. The rice based Udon noodles were thick and slippery. At times, they are hard to use with the chopsticks. The chicken broth has a wonderful Umami taste due to the earthy shiitake mushrooms. If you want more a vegetarian meal, this dish is the one. Even though they serve noodle soup dishes, don't forget to try their Japanese / Korean Curry dishes too. I will definitely be back to taste their curry dishes or appetizers like Gyoza and possibly get the Pork Katsu again just to try one more time. Also, there is a Combo Option for additional cost. I combine the Pork Katsu with the Kimchi Tonkutso for an additional $7. Check with your server or look on the menu. The prices and dish items may change later on. Enjoy!

The room has a high-energy, lively vibe without ever feeling overwhelmingly loud, and you can tell why the chef earned a James Beard nomination. You definitely need a reservation; they have a few walk-in spots, but they go very fast, so you will want to get there right when doors open if you do not have one booked. The beverage menu is very well done, with great cocktails and thoughtful mocktails that felt just as crafted. For food, our starters set a high bar; the pork buns, pickles, and octopus were all flavorful and well prepared. The ramen itself was delicious and hits the spot in the Alaska weather, with deep, tasty broths and bold flavors throughout. The Dark Horse was especially good. We did not have room left for dessert, but the savory side of the menu more than delivered.

We came a little after opening at 5:15 and were seated at a table immediately. Larger groups may have trouble without a reservation. Everything was phenomenal. My husband had a couple cocktails and I had a couple NA cocktails. I was really impressed with the NA cocktails -- they were complex in flavor and not overly sweet. Husband was also impressed with his drinks. For appetizers we got the pickles, pork buns and takoyaki. In my opinion the pork buns are the way to go. I also enjoyed the pickles and there were a good garnish with other dishes. For ramens we got the dark horse and Tokyo rich tsukemen. Wow wow wow, they were simply excellent. The broths had so much flavor. The tsukemen was a fun dish with having to assemble it yourself and dip food into the broth. Pork belly serving was very generous. Some of the best ramen I have ever had. If you are in anchorage you need to eat here!
