Ramen Kounotori has such a great vibe, and is well situated on Main Street, where a lot of trendy restaurants are opening in recent years. We went as a group, and got to try a variety of items. Their spicy paitan ramen was definitely the crowd favourite, as the chili oil perfectly complemented the milky chicken broth. We also really enjoyed their tori (chicken) namban, which came with a delicious house made Japanese-style tartar sauce. We also liked how we were offered free (decaffeinated) Japanese tea. Overall, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is very chill, with high ceilings and spacious seating.

It's a very different vibe here. There is a dedicated bar section, but it looks very underused. The ramen is quite unique, with a mix of chicken and pork broth. Milky in color and quite good flavor depth. The ramen comes with a full egg and tori paitain, and kara tori paitain had a big chunk of chicken breast and a very thin slice of chashu. The ramen itself is good. The tori karaage was not good. The fries were not fried well, and the chicken wings were small and dry. Service was almost non existant. They give each table a jug of cold roasted tea but don't come back to refill it. They also don't watch tables to see who have finished.

Fantastic! Not going to lose to Japan ramen shops with its depth of flavor and enjoyable chicken umami.

Recommended to me by two people, Ramen Kounotori did not disappoint: their signature taipan broth is creamy and flavourful, the noodles are straight and chewy (reminiscent of Kyushu style ramen, I think it is), and the toppings are in higher proportion than many other places. The bowl volume itself is only medium, but plenty to get full on, and for $15-16 very reasonable. The onsen don add-on for $2.50 is excellent value if you fear you won't be full from the ramen: sous vide egg with torched diced chashu and scallions, over rice with a sweet soy sauce. None of the components were necessarily "wow", but together it's a satisfying bowl. After the ramen, though, I was completely overstuffed with the rice, so much so that it was uncomfortable. The store decor is nice and airy: on nice days, the whole front of the restaurant opens up so the loft-style interior feels al fresco. Service is great, served with a smile, and just ... overall pleasant.

Chicken ramen with extra chashu

This was my second time coming here, and it didn't disappoint. It actually even improved from the last time I went! This continues to be my favourite ramen spot in Vancouver. I love the chicken broth. Their chicken ramen comes with four to five pieces of chicken, one of them fried and the rest sous vide. Last time I went they only gave two chicken pieces, so this was an amazing surprise! It also comes with one marinated egg, green onions, and some wood ear mushrooms. I added two chashu, but that was actually too much for me and I could've gone without it. The broth has such a deep flavour and it's perfectly creamy. I literally have nothing bad to say about this ramen. It also comes with a side of picked beets, which are really delicious. And they serve cold corn and barley tea. That tea is so addicting that my partner asked them how they made it the first time we went lol. Service is impeccable and friendly. The ambience is very casual and welcoming.

Stopped by on a weekday night and definitely did not expect to stumble upon my new favourite ramen place in Vancouver. I ordered the tori paitan ramen and was blown away - the broth is rich and creamy, and the chashu piece (half hidden in the broth) was huge! I especially loved the chicken slices and the caramelized onions. Every bite had something different but every component in the ramen impressed me. So far we have come here at least another 5 times and their service and quality never disappoint. If I could add another star for the immaculate music and vibes inside the restaurant, I would! (Protip: if you get the tori paitan, order a side of spicy tare and mix it into the ramen. It becomes a totally different but still delicious broth)

We made reservations for 7pm on a Su day night. We got sat right away. They serve a cold barley tea in place of water which is really yummy. I'm not a fan of typical Japanese rice or barley hot tea but I really enjoyed this. We all ordered the Kori paitan and also the Kara or spicy paitan. Each bowl comes with a jammy egg, chicken, green onions and noodle. The creamy broth comes, and is almost a little frothy, like it was steamed for you! You can add for $2.50 the chaisu bowl and it comes with rice, an egg green onion and is definitely worth the $2.50. Get it! My soup was spicy, eventhough they said it's not too spicy. But it wasn't overpowering, it was perfect if you wanted a little kick! The service was good, always someone coming by to check if you needed anything, clearing the table or asking if you wanted more tea. Overall, we really loved this new little Korean run ramen place and will be back on those cold Vancouver days!

Plain Paitan ramen with extra egg added

I walked in just after noon and it was empty but filled pretty quickly. Service was prompt and food comes quickly. It's a small menu focused all on Paitan's - chicken broth. That seems to be the rage in town and I'm all for it. Healthy and creamy, the special thing about this broth (I had the plain paitan) is that it appears frothy and bubbly at the beginning, giving a mystical look. The broth is really really good. Creamy rich yet not too thick. I would say it might be better than the broth at Maruhachi which I hold as the standard for Paitan broths. The noodles are thin and done well. Not much ingredients in the base but I liked the mushrooms and touch of green onions. The egg is ok, it's runny enough. Overall done extremely well and I'd definitely come back. The bowl is slightly small but I don't think enough to distract.

Finally tried out Ramen Kounotori. It took over the space from the short lived Old Bird. We dropped in on a late Friday afternoon (1:15pm). Service was friendly but slow. Enjoyed the jug of cold hojicha brought to the table. Menu is short and sweet with four types of ramen. - Plain tori paitan ($13.25) - chicken broth was creamy yet light. Different than Maruhachi Ra-men's tori paitan broth. Thin noodles were decent but wanted them firmer. - Tori shoyu ($18.25) - chicken/seafood broth was nicely balanced. Noodles were thicker, but again, wanted a chewier bite. Preferred the tori chashu (sous vide) over the chashu. Always nice to have more ramen options but portion was on the small side. 3.5 stars

Super friendly service and delicious ramen. Not quite your traditional ramen as there is caramelized onion. Ramen egg was flavourful and meat were soft.

A new ramen spot just along the busy part of main street! We went to visit during a car-free day during dinner time and it was just slightly busy, with consistent groups going in and out. I love the openness of the restaurant with their large windows. The interior design was also really cute and aesthetic with their logos. We were seated after probably a 10 minute wait - much of that waiting time was for waiters to clear the tables as they seem to still be slightly understaffed. Not many items on the menu - I went with the Toro Paitan Ramen ($18.25). Something I'd like to note is that the price of the ramen is on the more expensive side, but it does come with 2 types of cha siu and a soft boiled egg. This would put the price in par to other ramen restaurants if you were to get the same toppings. The first thing I noticed was how deep and strong the chicken broth was! It literally tasted as if you were drinking chicken broth that was undiluted. To each their own, but I think it was just slightly overpowering for me. I would prefer if the broth was a little more creamy in addition to the strong chicken taste. I do love that the noodles that were cooked perfectly, and both cha siu pieces were soft and tender. Portions were just right for me, but I am a small eater. They did have the option to add noodles if needed though. Would probably come again if I'm in the area!

Kara tori paitan

Absolutely will come again! This is the best ramen I've had so far in Vancouver. I ordered the Kara Tori Paitan. "Kara" is a type of chili sauce, and the staff kindly offered to serve it on the side so I could adjust the spice level to my preference. I definitely recommend doing it this way--you get to taste the soup both with and without the chili. Both versions are delicious, but I personally preferred the Kara-infused broth. The noodle texture was just how I like it--not too hard, but still nice and chewy. The ramen came with 2 pieces of pork and 4 pieces of chicken. Although each piece wasn't very big, having a total of 6 pieces felt generous! The atmosphere and interior were clean and modern, which added to the overall experience. I also loved that they served cold tea instead of hot tea or water. It was super refreshing, especially since the soup base was on the heavier side. I love this place so much!

Tori karaage (house made soy sauce marinated deep fried chicken wings)

Ramen on the Main... I have passed by this place countless times but never stop by to give it a try until recently. This place is located along the Main Street strip, among many little shops and restaurants. There are pay street parkings available outside and surrounding areas. Upon entering, there is a full bar located to the left and tables and chairs to the right. And I believe the kitchen is located on the 2nd level? Overall, a slightly little different layout than your average ramen joint. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Tori karaage (house made soy sauce Marinated deep fried chicken wings). I have a little sentimental love for this way of deep fried chicken wings cause of personal reasons. A light crisp tasty skin, juicy right to the middle. Great drinking snackers. 2. Tori ramen. The pork chashus were tender and nicely seared, the chicken chashus however were a bit dry, the broth wasn't hot enough and a bit too creamy. It's nice to have a rich soup but also it needed to be balanced with everything else otherwise it's too much and will be like drinking a bowl of butter. 3. Tori shoyu. The blending of all the soy sauces and 2 different broths weren't harmonized, creating a not much desired taste. And the rest was the same as the bowl of Tori ramen. It's a decently nice casual and comfortable dining atmosphere especially with the high ceilings. The service here was friendly and decently okay, As for the food, I really enjoyed the chicken wings. But for the ramen, I was a bit disappointed? The broth was a bit overly creamy which made it harder and harder to eat as time went on plus the broth wasn't hot enough so it was even worse. Overall, this place has to find a better balance of the chicken broth so it's actually rich and flavourful to savour to not a struggle to finish. Unfortunately didn't make it to the main ramen place for me.

The guy in front of me, Deng, looked at me with such envy as he cut in line. This place is incredibly popular! Every time I pass by, there's a long queue. Even on rainy days, people are willing to get soaked in the rain just to have a bowl of hot tonkotsu ramen. While you're queuing, the staff will hand out menus. The ordering system is similar to Ichiran Ramen; you can choose the noodle firmness, broth consistency, spiciness, green onions, oil level, and MSG amount . The basic ramen is only $13. I added a soft-boiled egg and pickled cabbage for $2 each. Although the pickled cabbage is really expensive , I can't help it, I'm a pickled cabbage addict! The pickled cabbage paired with the rich tonkotsu broth was refreshing. The broth was flavorful but not greasy, the noodles were chewy and springy, and the portion size was just right. Overall, it's incredibly good value for money; no wonder there's always a queue. After eating, you really get that "Ah~ this is the taste of happiness" feeling

The vegetarian was loaded with sesame seeds. Now i love those seeds but it was way too much for my liking. Too much seeds to chew on. They also do not put any vegetables on like Hawaii does. Everything is ala carte and that adds up. I simply chose the ramen version without all the add ons. The broth was yummy but again with the loaded seeds, it made it challenging to just drink the soup. I will say, Hawaii has by far better ramen, but this place was ok too. Pricey for for what you get though.

Paid parking was not too hard to find on the Main Street but during busy dining hours it might be difficult. We got seated right away at the bar since there were no tables open and the service was quick. Traditional Japanese style ambiance and even the bathroom had rounded Japanese bowl sink. As someone who doesn't have chicken broth (paitan style) ramen, I was really looking forward to the original ramen I ordered but I was a bit disappointed in the flavor profile of the dish. The ramen had both chasu and seaweed paired with thin round noodles. The broth was creamy and had a hint of chicken flavor but even adding several rounds of their soy sauce/salt seasoning they have on the side to adjust your broth to your liking-- I found that the richness of the soup was not what I had expected from the reviews that I read prior to coming here. Overall, a bit disappointed in the flavoring of the broth but maybe we came on an off day. I would be willing to give it a shot again in the future if I had ramen cravings and given that it was very affordable ($11-15 per bowl with tip), but I would probably opt to try another place first.

Review #3 for 2026 I…read morereally wanted to like this place. I watched many videos and read reviews before coming here, but it just did not hit the spot. After a cold day of exploring Stanley Park, we felt that ramen would really hit the spot, so we went here not wanting to deal with a wait at Danbo with a hungry and tired toddler. There was NO wait when we arrived here and we were seated immediately... which for a place that was really hyped up, should had made us think twice. There was only 1 other party at the restaurant. Now, the workers were super nice and the food came out quickly and we did eat everything because we were starving. We all ordered the cha-shu tamago ramen, 2 of us got spicy and 2 of us non-spicy. It came with extra chashu and the soft boiled egg for about $20 Canadian. The bowl was a good size and there was a promo for free extra noodles while we were there. Everyone except me in our group took advantage of it because I was too full from my bowl. Now, the broth here is different from other places because it is chicken based and not pork based. Everything I had seen about this place promised the broth is every bit just as good as the pork bone broth... however, the broth we received looked flavorful, but was bland. It was completely bland. There was no richness to it, not even a hint. I don't know, coming from southern California, the flavor just was not there period. We did all eat our food because we were starving, but it for sure did not hit the spot at all. Maybe we got an off day? Otherwise our broth had literally zero flavor to it. We all wished we had tried the other ramen place instead right after trying our ramen. Would I come back? I will have to say definitely no. We do not live in Vancouver and I do not want to waste any meals on a place that did not taste good the first time we went.

The gyoza and rice bowl were great! The gyoza, which we ordered on the recommendation of our waiter when we told them we were looking for a vegetarian appetizer, were made with soy-based imitation meat that had a very meaty texture - simple but very tasty. The rice bowl also had the soy meat, but seasoned differently, with a more intense flavour, along with atsuage tofu and various vegetables. It was delicious and also seemed healthy. We liked the aburi cheesecake, but it was more lemony than we expected. The waiters who brought it out said the lemon was to cut the sweetness, but we actually felt like the lemon competed with the caramel flavour of the bruleed crust. The textures were amazing though. As for the food, unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I ordered the seafood sizzler bowl, and while it wasn't bad by any means, it felt underwhelming for the price. The bowl was mostly rice, with a few small prawns, tiny scallops, a little roe, and some crab mixed in. I was expecting something more seafood-forward, so it ended up feeling more like a deconstructed fried rice than the premium dish I had envisioned.
