We came right before the dinner rush, so we got seated promptly. We ordered two combos, and 1 appetizer. Takoyaki- fresh and hot! Chewy octopus which i thoroughly enjoy. Karage- On the house!! Thank you so much!! - very juicy and crispy! I never order kaarage, so this was a lovely item to try:) Shredded pork bowl- yum! Curry rice- saved for lunch the next day, mixed in some canned corn and I think the flavor soaked in a little bit more overnight. Ramen- pretty good, no complaints here. I do prefer the ramen that is thinner like shinshen gumi. Green tea ice cream + strawberry mochi!- on the house again!! We were too full to enjoy the flavors fully, but it was delicious regardless. Service here is so great! Our server for the night was named Cindy and she was so very attentive while juggling half of the other restaurant with another server. I've read the reviews and most people don't like this because it's too rich for them and it gives them acid reflux lol. Meanwhile, I'm part of the crowd that LOVE rich ramen broths. Give me that spicy miso ramen any time! The broth here reminds me a bit of Mutekiya, my favorite small ramen shop in Ikebukuro that I've had to wait in line for almost 2 hours but was so worth it. I usually get the spicy miso ramen (spicy level 3) and it has consistently hit the spot for me. If you're not used to spicy food, but want to get it, I suggest just getting spicy level 1. My dad, who is not used to spicy food, got level 2 and it was too hot for him. I'm taking a star off because I do have to admit that the broth is more on the oily side and their chashu is thin and hard. I like my chashu slices to be thick, tender and flavorful, but that seems to be a hard to find thing here in the US. It used to be more packed in here, but I've been coming by lately for pick-ups and noticed that it's not as busy. Parking is easy since it's in a plaza. read more

This little Naruto-themed ramen joint has some pretty good ramen. The Tonkotsu broth is rich, creamy and bold. The ramen noodles for my Spicy Tonkotsu Miso were thick with just the right amount of chewiness. If you got the regular Spicy Tonkotsu, it had thinner noodles. You can also choose the spice level here from 1 - 5. I chose 3, which was just right with a hint of spice. I tried the 4 and it wasn't that much spicier, but still had a nice kick. You can add a super deal of a bowl of chashu, spicy chashu, cubed chashu or curry rice to your ramen for $2.50. I also had their takoyaki, which was ok with a small chunk of octopus, thick batter and it was fried overall. Would recommend skipping it unless you really crave it. Ramen Naruto (named after the Japanese anime cartoon, which is also playing on a TV screen during our visit) is located in the same plaza as Stater Bros and Marie Callendar's. I came by this restaurant with my husband this past Sunday evening, around 6 pm. There were a few people ahead of us waiting for a table, so we put our name on the waiting list and waited. There were 3 bar style stool seating and asked the hostess if we could sit there. She told us that she would get back to us. Then she seated 1 party and then eventually came back to us and said we could sit there. But as we had waited, with the cold wind chill coming in as people opened the door, we decided to just wait for a table since we had already waited so long. Eventually a table opened up for us and so we finally were seated by an employee. She had menus for us and apologized for the wait (waited about 30 minutes for this table). After browsing the menu, we ended up getting: R-3 Spicy Tonkotsu Miso, $10.50 prior to tax- My husband picked his spice level at 3 (out of 1-5) and thought his broth was at a perfect spicy level. He would not want to try level 4 and thinks level 2 would not be enough. This bowl of ramen came with slices of pork cha shu (barbecue pork, Chinese style), corn, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts and noodle. I don't like spicy foods and so I did not have any. My husband liked his food and thought the portion was good. R-61 Tori Shoyu, $9.50 prior to tax- My bowl of ramen comes with 2 slices of chicken, egg noodles, bamboo shoots and mushrooms. I thought the portion size was more than enough for me and so I gave some of my noodles to my husband. I liked the broth and thought the chicken was okay. I didn't like the flavor of the bamboo shoots, they really had that odd from the can taste that was very noticeable. ----------------------------------- (Total= $21.75 after tax, prior to tip) Service was minimal. I did like that my husband's water glass was refilled during our meal (not mine though, but I did have more water in my glass when a sever came by). I did not like that there were so many paper printed menus on the walls of the restaurant. It is hard to read. Also there were a few papers stapled to our laminated menu that highlighted specials. I just didn't like all of those paper menus, but that's very minor. Wait time for food seemed pretty long for ramen and was expecting it to be brought out shortly after ordering (but that didn't happen... waited over 25 minutes for our food). I am pleasantly surprised that I ended up liking this ramen place and would come back. I do want to mention that seating is rather on the small side. While we were waiting for our table, we just saw other people just sitting and waiting for their food after they had ordered. The place looked different, the menu was different. They now charge $1 for spicy level? wow. The meat was the worst part. The closest I've ever come to eating Ramen is probably buying up a dozen pack at the grocery store, and cooking them all at once. Kinda gross....but that's me. So when I came here and tried the spicy chicken ramen, I made the choice of pushing the limits getting the really spicy S8. I guess that was their hottest spicy sauce. The waitress and my friends kept saying are you sure? Duuuuh! Of course I'm sure. In fact it really wasn't that spicy and i requested a spicier hot sauce. Now that's perfect. You need to kick your sauces up a notch. As for my friends, you guys are weak. Potato croquettes, were perfect. I asked for extra crispy. I used to order from this place all the time, I ordered the Naruto 66 and extra broth and extra noodles and when I got my food it was split in half so technically I paid $27 for one bowl of noodles and it was missing half the veggies and half the broth and noodles. I have to say I was really surprised by this place, I never would have expected there to be such a great ramen place so close to home. It is a rather small place themed after a very popular anime hence the name. Very clean and well taken care of. The service had been great every time I've been. The ramen is just fantastic here, the broth has so many layer of flavor, the noodles are delicious, the pork is so tasty. My favorite is the spicy Tonkatsu. You can choose from Tonkatsu which is pork and Tori which is chicken. I have not tried the Tori yet but I definitely recommend the Tonkatsu. I cannot recommend this place enough and I definitely cannot wait to go back again. My only complaint would be the music selection, the last time I was in there they were playing rap the whole time which is not really what I want to listen to when I take my grandma to lunch. I like that it came with a small side of salad, but it could've used a little more dressing haha. The ramen was really flavorful, but it was a little toooo salty. My grandson friend told him about this place so we stopped in and it's pretty good. servers are friendly. They are pretty quick to take your order, bring things and check on us. My grandson and I do not get spicy and it's delicious! Wow. If the previous owners could only see what a disaster this place has become. The quality of this restaurant has gone down hill drastically in the past year. Very inconsistent food, some days the food is cooked fairly tolerable, other days it's very cold (veggies, meat and toppings). It feels as if some of the cooks aren't even trying. the food presentation is horrible, the music is WAY too loud. Fortunately the servers are all extremely friendly and efficient, however, on one instance I asked a young man to turn the music down (which he did) but after some time, it seems someone in the back is turning it up again? unsure what's going on there but it is extremely obnoxious music. I came here with my family and unfortunately had to be subjected to vulgar music riddled with profanity. where is this "new manager"? they don't seem to be present at all in the stores operations. I ended up with the spicy Tonkatsu Miso, level 3. It really wasn't that spicy, but it overpowered the flavor of the broth. The first slice chasu was pretty dry and lacked in flavor, but the second slice which had been submerged in the broth for several minutes was delicious. The broth had a good mouth feel, but at first I thought it was a little thick. The noodles were good and cooked just right. I might come again to try the regular Tonkatsu ramen!! read more

Only tried it because the Naruto theme and how upbeat the reviews sound. There is pork broth and chicken broth ramens. Which is pretty intense. I was not sure which one I should try at first. So many decisions, and impressed with the vegetable/vegetarian options. Anyway, I got the spicy tonkotsu miso ramen. (Per-usual if you've read my other ramen reviews). First, let me introduce Jimmy. He was a chill guy who is very inviting. Spicy-level; i should have trusted my gut and added a red bomb. He scared me about the spiciness level. But I am also glad that I didn't. I got to taste the flavor. A rich pork broth. Flavorful, chewy noodles and I like how all the toppings were already included. Except the egg.. (Though, the egg was worth the add on). The takoyaki was standard. Not too much of a surprise crispy on the outside and a big tako piece on the inside. Casual ambiance and i'm glad it wasn't busy when we walked in. Ramen Naruto had been on my mind for long time now, and I'd always wanted to try it out because everyone in the Azusa college community (or residential area community in general) always seems to be talking about this place? What's the big deal? Finally, one Saturday afternoon, my friend and I drove to this college plaza to try it out. Of note, I've been to this plaza before for an ice cream roll treat, so this area in general is full of gems, I guess! Stepping inside the restaurant, immediately I got this answer of whether the "naruto" in the name's referring to the cured fish surimi or the popular manga/anime. The answer's most likely the latter, as the decor of this store heavily featured the mentioned manga and hanging posters. Now... whether this is infringement or not, I dunno. But I actually felt like this was a cheap shot of making a store to feel more Japanese in a Western/foreigner market. I would've preferred something else, but I digress. The host at the podium in front got us seated very quickly, and the waitress couldn't wait to take my order. Thanks, guys, for the prompt service, but I hadn't even warmed up my seat enough yet to fully peruse the menu! This was incredible, really, because I always enjoyed staff members that're on top of their games. Kudos, kudos! My friend and I both opted for R3, which was the spicy tonkotsu miso ramen. I picked spicy level 2? Or mild? Something reasonable to my tongue. I even added a soft boiled egg for some additional protein. (The egg was ok, cooked just right, but there's no internally injected soy sauce like some other eateries.) Ramen came quickly, and I loved how they had their own bowls with their restaurant name. Presentation was eh; you can look at my picture for reference. As for the taste: the featured egg noodles had the right consistency that I loved. Chewy and fun. The tonkotsu chashu or whatever meat I was given was produced just right, not too hard at all, though I would've preferred a little more meat--that's an issue with most ramen restaurants though, they never give you enough meat. Finally, the flavor was great! It was spicy enough to satisfy my desire for a kick, but not too spicy to cause discomfort. All in all, for the price I paid for, the great customer service I got, this place is worth 4.5 stars! I've taken off half a star for a very frequent reason that I run into--portion was sub-optimal. I walked out barely full, and for the price I paid for, I should walk away feeling I ate a meal, not a snack. 4.5 stars was rounded down to 4, but that was a close call. Ramen Naruto is located on the northwest corner for Route 66/Alosta Ave and Barranca Ave. They are in the same plaza as the Marie Calendar's and to the right of the Stater Bros. If you are familiar with this area, they took over the location that used to be The Cookie Mill/Pasta Bar. (Oh, I miss those ice cream sandwiches! LOL) Anyways, I've been here a couple times with my friends from work. The place is totally packed on rainy/cold days and there is usually a wait out the door. I usually get the ramen combo which comes with a bowl of ramen of your choice and I add a small side salad and the karaage. I like R4 - Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen with egg noodle. The egg noodle has a nice chew. The food here is legit. The owner is Japanese and they get the flavors right, especially the broth which is key. The salad comes with a ginger dressing which is so addicting and the karaage pieces are HUGE and always comes out steaming out that it'll burn your tongue. **sigh** I really need to stop going to themed restaurants. When I first moved here to Azusa and we saw this place (3 years ago), my sister and I wanted to check it out. We finally did tonight. Dispointing to say the least. Even for a standard everyday Ramen place. Firstly, the staff was excellent. I have no qualm about that. My issue was (ordered an R3 @ level 4 out of 5 spice), was that it was missing ingrediants (corn), and of those it had were of such small portions. Aside from the noodle itself. The mush rooms were barely there and the heat was barely there. It was like a bowl of just noodles and Tapatio (or tabasco). Later to find out that they charged for spice level (didn't tell us) because they "made it in the back?" Wth?! Was it "made" out of a can? I was gonna ask for a side of jalepenos. You know. To add some actual spice. There were not at table items like seasame oil or etc. I finished the bowl mostly because I hadn't eaten since the morning, was hungry and finally tried it out. We ordered a delivery of ramen and was pleasantly surprised that it traveled well. It had cooled off some but was still quite edible. Glendora is a vast wasteland for Japanese food so when Naruto first opened, we were pleased with the quality of the food. The owner was a fellow from Japan and he knew what he was doing. Unfortunately, it seems he sold the business and I don't know what happened to him. The quality is not quite the same but it's decent. To give you an idea of my standards, Kouraku on 2nd St. in Little Tokyo is my "go to" place. More locally, Yukinoya in Arcadia and Tamaya in Hacienda Heights are pretty decent. read more
