However, I went to the bar to buy a drink after dinner and she took issue with the $20 I handed her for payment. It was an older $20 from before they changed the design. She held it up to the light and was looking for the strip and said that because it didn't have the strip that she couldn't accept it. I looked at the bill and saw that it was a 1988 bill. I told her this and she said it should still have the strip in it. I didn't want to argue so I happily paid using a different $20, but my curiosity got the better of me later that evening and I looked it up and she was incorrect. They did not start adding the strips until 1992. I could understand if it was some youngster that might only be familiar with the newer bill design, but she was not young. I also would have accepted her stance if she said it was hotel policy to only accept bills that have the strip. The way the interaction took place left me feeling accused of trying to pass a counterfeit bill. A little more tact would have gone a long way here. I feel like a hotel manager would be more in tune with customer service. Funny enough, I went back to the bar the next night and paid with the $20 in question. The bartender on duty that night accepted it without batting an eyelash. Food was just okay. Our group tried a variety of menu items: Ribs, wings, carbonara, salmon, pretzel appetizer, hummus, and maybe a couple other things. Ribs were probably the best thing, but nothing really stood out.

Coming through North Richland Hills we were looking for a place to grab some lunch and came upon the Blue Mound Cafe. This is exactly the type of place I like to take in, so we stopped in! Walking in, the country music on the speaker system welcomed us about the same time the Hostess did, and we were escorted to our table. There were a LOT of choices on the menu here. I was tempted by the amazing Breakfast menu, but decided upon a Chili Cheese Burger with Hand-cut Fries. It ended up being a great choice, though looking at everyone else's food around us I am not sure there are any bad choices here!

Waitresses... wow. What a spectacularly surly group of women. It was so oily it started dripping with the slightest touch. We've eaten here before and the food was actually pretty good, so maybe Saturdays come with a different and special cook. Today, though, it was a caricature of a true greasy spoon. Here's the thing: you can have rude waitresses if the food is amazing. You can have an old, run-down restaurant if the food is amazing. You can even get away with both. What you can't have is bad food, bad attitudes, and décor that looks like everyone stopped caring years ago. Congratulations--you've managed to hit the restaurant trifecta. We won't be back. Good luck. Judging by the collective mood in the place, I'm guessing someone dropped a house on your sister. Sorry for your loss.

He was super helpful and even let us try different dressings for our salads. There was this super anal retentive Mario that was a server also....his section was geometrically perfect, totally fung Shuy'd out and precise to the millimeter. You could look down the rows of tables and they all were in a row and perfect. Because why not, I moved a tent out of line. For payback, I asked for a short beer and got this. Love it and touche.

My meals: Deviled Egg Salad Sandwich - This was very good, so VERY good. Every bite was packed with flavor, and the sweet bacon topped it off. The multigrain bread was fresh and paired perfectly with the egg salad. Side: Pickled Cucumbers - I could eat these daily; they're spectacular. - Cheesy Eggs & Avocado Toast: This meal was a huge disappointment. The eggs were described as very creamy and fluffy, and that is what you were served. They were nice. My main issue was the avocado toast. "Crushed avocado" is how it was described. I feel that was misleading and should be corrected. This was an avocado spread w/ crushed red pepper and sea salt. A spread that was already turning brown when received. The bread (French) was toasted and buttered with salted butter, which completely ruined it. It was way too salty and actually made the top of the bread soggy. Speaking of soggy, that same thing happened on the bottom. The steam from the eggs soaked into the bread, which made it unpleasant. Other than the eggs, I threw it away. A total bust! - Grilled Idaho Trout: When I order fish, I know I'm taking a risk. So easily, depending on the fish, it can often be overcooked. With this trout, it was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. The meal is filling, and I ate it for lunch and dinner. The veggies were the side show for me, but they served their purpose and were tasty. Sides: Cucumber Lemon Sparkler (non-alcoholic) So refreshing, I love their new sparkling refreshers! Campfire Cookies: What a great addition; these will definitely be a hit. The caramel can be a bit much, in particular when it comes to storing the cookies. You may want to omit the sauce or get it on the side. Either way, these cookies are delicious! BBQ Chips: These were okay; they could have been fried a bit longer. They were inconsistent. Chili Garlic Cucumbers: SCORE! SO, GOOD! Just make sure you eat them as quickly as possible. They tend to lose their "crunch" if they sit for too long. Not best to be eaten as leftovers. Overall, I love Lazy Dog for the variety of foods and for their creativity. I appreciate menus that cater to the seasons; it always gives me something new to look forward to, or even my seasonal favorites.
