I've been meaning to give this diner a review. Overall, we had a great experience when we arrived. Our host/server, Amber, was so welcoming and nice with a genuine smile that it was hard not to try this place out. Since we we're playing a live show next door that same night, we figured we should get a great cup of coffee and a solid dinner. Everything was simply delish for everyone. I had the Tecate Chicken and it was super filling and tasty. It was packed with many flavors and it came with a side of beans and salad that was delicious. I also had their unsweetened tea, since I'm on a diet these days. Now I know why they call this place the best diner in Ramona. We always get seated quickly and food always tastes good and comes out within 15-20 mins but lord have mercy this waitress is not suited for great attitude service . What a great spot!! Stopped here before going up sunrise highway. The food was amazing! We split a scramble .. it was AMAZING. Fresh potatoes, the gravy was delicious, and those eggs. They were honestly the best eggs I've ever had. Fluffy and light... id drive 45 minutes just for this scramble. Then the cinnamon roll... you have to get this!! It is worth the hype. Soft and fresh. Yes it's sweet but cinnamon rolls should be. It's absolutely delicious. My husband and I ate the whole thing. The server (I wish i knew her name... she was on diners drive ins and drives she said for a few seconds) was super nice. She made our visit a great one. It seems like a friendly place that locals come and all know each other. Idk if thats the case but it had that charming feel to it. We'd make the drive out here because we loved it so much. Got the chicken fried steak and for $17 plus tax, don't think it was worth it. When I received my meal, it was cold. The only thing that was warm was the sausage gravy they put on top of the chicken. There was more breading than chicken and to be honest the meat looked a bit like mystery meat. The potatoes lacked flavor. Eggs were a bit over coocked. Still ate it because didnt have time to get something else for lunch. The only reason I gave this 2 stars was because of the service. Outstanding "Spanish Omelette" recently at Ramona Cafe! Looked like a hot mess but it was delicious. Filled with a liberal amount of taco seasoned ground beef, green chilis and their excellent salsa; topped with melted monterey jack cheese. All of that going on no doubt contributed to the weepage out the side. Comes with home fried taters and your choice of toast, hot biscuit or English muffin. Visited 11/ 14/2017 I decided to try this little historic Café for breakfast this morning. I am being very generous giving this place 3 stars. Perhaps some of their other meals are much better. I had one of their classic scrambles that unfortunately was way over cooked. The eggs were dry and hard and the cheese was almost crispy. 2 Stars. The Potatoes were seasoned nicely and the best part of breakfast. 3 Stars. The Sausage biscuits and gravy were a big disappointment. First the biscuits were very good, soft and flaky. Sadly sausage gravy tasted nothing like sausage. It was very bland. 1 Star. The place is quite dated not the most comfortable seating. Kid stand to be updated. This place has gone down hill faster than a snow tube greased with Crisco! My family and I used to make the drive from Pine Valley to Ramona, just to go to the Ramona Cafe for their chicken fried steak. The last two times we have gone, it has not been very good. The quality of the food just doesn't seem to be as good as it used to be. The last time we went, was by far the worst. I ordered my usual, chicken fried steak. My meal came out luke-warm, and my steak was a little chewy, like it was not freshly made. Ok, that happens sometimes. So I told the waitress about the chicken fried steak, and I sent it back. She came back to our table, not even 3 minutes later, and puts a plate in front of me. It was the exact same plate I had sent back, only she had thrown it in the microwave to heat it up! It even had the same ketchup still on the dish...steaming hot now! I looked at the dish, looked at her, and asked her "Did you just throw the food in the microwave and give it back to me?". And she told me "Yeah, that's what we do"! I just told her to take the food back and take it off our bill. I have had similar interactions like this at Burger Kings, but I would never expect to have them at an actual restaurant. Totally unacceptable. I may give this place another chance if I am in the area, just because I like supporting local businesses. But I am definitely not making any more trips to Ramona specifically to go here. read more

We went here and each got the chicken cordon bleu. My plate was very yellow... yellow hollandaise, yellow corn, yellow corn bread, yellow mashed potatoes.... Yellow food is delicious so...it's okay. The portion was enormous! The chicken seemed a little overdone. Maybe over fried? It seemed dry but still very good. The tomato basil soup was fantastic. I got a carrot cake and it was okay. It was moist but it seemed like it had a lot of nuts in it. I'm not a fan of nuts and should have asked if there nuts in it. The server mentioned the raisins in it but I didn't taste very many. We had to get a cinnamon roll to go. It's huge! I'd heard great things about these rolls. And unpopular opinion-it was awful. I ate the next morning for breakfast. It was very dry and the bread part was just bland and dry. The filling to bread ratio was way off. I would have liked a lot more filling! And there were sooo many nuts in it. It was so crunchy and unpleasant. I did not like it. Even after being wrapped in plastic wrap and in a styrofoam container it was so dry. Very disappointing. Came this place a few years back, right after DDD was there, it was pretty good. That is the reason we came back last week. Made the mistake of coming back on a holiday (Veterans Day). We waited at least 20+ minutes between asked if we wanted anything to drink and someone to take our order. I realize some restaurants are short staffed, but this service level was unacceptable. If your servers have a shitty attitude, don't work in the service business. I ordered a short stack of pancakes, I didn't know anyone can make them hard and chewy and the same time. My review is base on my experience. Customer service gets 5 stars The 2 young ladys are fast, friendly, no matter how busy the restaurant is the 2 young lady's kept a big friendly smile . Food 4 stars. I order the special! Smokehouse burger with fries. I was not asked how I like my meet. The burger was very good, the fries are hot, and crispy. Coffee gets 5 stars. When I pass by the restaurant I though it was A coffee place , the name Ramona Cafe sounds more like coffee only, not a restaurant, but to my surprise its a restaurant. Now they have a big sign, they sell Cinnamon rolls , now those baby's are big about 11/2 inches thick, and 6 inch around , I order one to go , but the glaze was very hard. To me it was O.K I'm very sure it taste better when they are warm and fresh , to me it only gets 3 stars.... Location 5 stars its on the Main street.. place need some TLC but besides everything else is good. Bathroom need some cleanup. read more

My three friends and I had driven down to Santa Ysabel for an adventure and wanted to head back to LA through Ramona, so I chose the Ramona Cafe for our lunch stop. We had a fantastic time. We felt welcome from the moment we walked in the door and were told to sit wherever we chose. Our drink order was taken right away and drinks arrived immediately. Ordering the food was quick and efficient as well, and our waitress even offered to split the check for us. Food came out fast and the kitchen got all our orders perfect. I had the veggie omelet which was STUFFED with veggies and avocado (more of a guacamole) and SMOTHERED in cheese, really delicious. The homefries come with or without onions (I got with) and have a nice amount of char on them, not soggy at all. (They've got mustard, ketchup, salsa, hot sauce, whatever you want with the potatoes.) A side of bacon comes with either 2 or 4 pieces -- I got 2, but it was so good, I wish I'd gotten 4. Bacon slices are big and thick and crispy. No idea where they get their bacon but wowee. English muffins were requested well done/crispy and came out just right, soaked in butter that tasted like popcorn butter. My friend loved his French toast (the batter for which was nice and eggy) and my other friend enjoyed his chicken fried steak. We all shared a cinnamon roll (the "original" style, with pecans) which comes out warm and gooey with icing and is PLENTY for 4 people to share. Refills of drinks came without asking. Our server was a delight and everybody was very helpful. Our entire group was super-happy with the choice of restaurant. I'll definitely be back, thank you! read more
