My three friends and I had driven down to Santa Ysabel for an adventure and wanted to head back to LA through Ramona, so I chose the Ramona Cafe for our lunch stop. We had a fantastic time. We felt welcome from the moment we walked in the door and were told to sit wherever we chose. Our drink order was taken right away and drinks arrived immediately. Ordering the food was quick and efficient as well, and our waitress even offered to split the check for us. Food came out fast and the kitchen got all our orders perfect. I had the veggie omelet which was STUFFED with veggies and avocado (more of a guacamole) and SMOTHERED in cheese, really delicious. The homefries come with or without onions (I got with) and have a nice amount of char on them, not soggy at all. (They've got mustard, ketchup, salsa, hot sauce, whatever you want with the potatoes.) A side of bacon comes with either 2 or 4 pieces -- I got 2, but it was so good, I wish I'd gotten 4. Bacon slices are big and thick and crispy. No idea where they get their bacon but wowee. English muffins were requested well done/crispy and came out just right, soaked in butter that tasted like popcorn butter. My friend loved his French toast (the batter for which was nice and eggy) and my other friend enjoyed his chicken fried steak. We all shared a cinnamon roll (the "original" style, with pecans) which comes out warm and gooey with icing and is PLENTY for 4 people to share. Refills of drinks came without asking. My review is base on my experience. Customer service gets 5 stars The 2 young ladys are fast, friendly, no matter how busy the restaurant is the 2 young lady's kept a big friendly smile . Food 4 stars. I order the special! Smokehouse burger with fries. I was not asked how I like my meet. The burger was very good, the fries are hot, and crispy. Coffee gets 5 stars. When I pass by the restaurant I though it was A coffee place , the name Ramona Cafe sounds more like coffee only, not a restaurant, but to my surprise its a restaurant. Now they have a big sign, they sell Cinnamon rolls , now those baby's are big about 11/2 inches thick, and 6 inch around , I order one to go , but the glaze was very hard. To me it was O.K I'm very sure it taste better when they are warm and fresh , to me it only gets 3 stars.... The one star is my fault. On the way to use the bathroom, passing the counter filled with cinnamon buns next to the open back door leading to the garbage cans, and flies sitting on the buns, with the open bathroom door bathing them with the aromas... I should've turned and left. But I dared to order food (not the buns) once I was able to find the one waitress (amongst the 5) that seemed to be working, who was pleasant. The food was abysmal. The food was good, at least what we ate. Our waitress however needs to write down peoples orders rather than rely on her memory. We sat down and had a single cup of coffee and water poured but needed another cup since there were 2 of us, also requested a second cup of water. 5 minutes later we get the second cup of coffee and an orange juice. "We didn't order that" "are you sure? ...Maybe it's for another table, I'll get your water" place our order and the food comes out and the order is wrong. Wait for her to check on us, she doesn't come out, another server comes out to give us coffee. We ask her to please send out waitess out. 3 more minutes pass and she finally comes out and tells us that's what was ordered. This coming from the waitress who brought us a cup of orange juice that we didn't order either. The dish was a sausage skillet which is something we wouldn't order. It's been tough for everyone lately so we didn't escalate it. Still tipped her 20% not sure why. Hopefully she'll use it to but a pen and paper to eliminate this problem for future guests. read more

When my job took me out to Ramona last weekend, I decided to make it a bit more fun by bringing along my two dogs for the adventure. I began scouring the internet for dog friendly restaurants in Ramona and discovered Ramona Cafe. Even better, the cafe was in my Entertainment Book for a buy one, get one. The patio has about ten tables and we were able to grab a corner spot in an attempt to keep the dogs out of the way, which is very important when one of the dogs is a 100 pound mastiff. Our waitress brought over a fresh bowl of water right away and I greatly appreciated the extra care for my pups. I ordered the Turkey Melt with the bacon on the side. I don't eat bacon, but my dogs sure enjoy it. The sandwich tasted very good, especially when I added a bit of the ranch that I requested for my fries. The ranch, by the way, is amazing! My boyfriend ordered the Veggie Sandwich and said that while it tasted good, he was disappointed that it was much flatter than the picture on the menu made it look. Stopped here since we were in town and remembered hearing about it on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. Had the vegetarian omelette (cause I'm doing keto diet) with side of f four jumbo pork sausage. Omelette was stuffed full of grilled vegetables and avocado. Sausage were very flavorful. They are known for there 1/2 pound cinnamon rolls, so even they they aren't keto, I had to get one to at least try a bite. They are fantastic! Visiting a friend in Ramona and we had nowhere to go for lunch Thanksgiving day so starting driving to find someplace open. We saw several cars parked out front and went in to check it out. So glad we did. They were serving the traditional turkey and dressing dinner. It was so good! Just like it was made at home. It was a totally awesome meal and the staff were so much fun! Every time we've ever gotten food here in the past it was always really good but in the past like 6 months we've gone there 3 times and things seem alot different. We went there today, party of 6 and it was awful. The fried chicken and hamburger Patty's just seem way different. Like they needed to cut back on expenses and get really cheap and bad quality of meat now. We waited about 40 minutes for our food..they were busy so I can understand that sometimes. But once we got the food every single plate was bad. We got hamburgers and patty melts and chicken strips and fried chicken salad and like I said, their quality of meat was horrible. Ramona Cafe is a nice big restaurant with a Bakery. They are known for their famous huge cinnamon rolls. I personally love the biscuits and gravy scramble, breakfasts are big big portions that plate can probably feed 2 to 3 people if you're looking to share food. I was in Romona for Operation Flapjack then Cowboy Day Festival . I planned to have lunch at the festival but the menu was so unimpressive and too expensive I decided to eat eleswhere. I checked Yelp cash back for a restaurant nearby and discovered Ramona Cafe. I always choose one with a 15% discount. Ramona Cafe fit my criteria. What I didn't expect was they also had a Yelp check in discount of 15%. Upon arrival I was greeted at the door and invited to have a seat any where. I took a seat and after a short wait someone took my drink order. I started with water and waited to look at menu before ordering a beverage. Had I went for a second breakfast it would be coffee . I decided on liver and onions with mashed taters and gravy. I decided on Pepsi. The meal came with corn and a biscuit. They know how to properly serve liver here they dusted it in flour before cooking it and threw a pice of bacon on top. When I placed the order I remembered to request gravy on the liver too. I knew I was in the right place when my server said "Good Choice". My order arrived after a bit of a wait. It was worth the wait. The liver was cooked just right. A large enough portion for leftovers. The corn was just that. I added salt pepper and a little butter and made it more enjoyable. I guess these days health concious folks frown on preparing vegies in bacon grease. Oh well, back to the review. The mashed potatoes were served covered with a nice amount of gravy and as with the liver a large enough serving for leftovers. The biscuit was huge and made freash, and not the canned varity. I cut it in half buttered it and saved half for latter. Then I ate half of the other half with my meal. I put honey on the other half and enjoyed it for desert. The servers were all attentive and friendly there were several that stopped by my table to check on me but, Amber was the main server. She did a fine job. The only thing I was not happy about was the price of my drink. I was shocked to see that it was $2.85. To understand this statement the reader will have to understand my thinking. I can get a 2 liter bottle of cola for 79¢. I try not to pay more than double that in a restaurant. As a general rule if sodas are too expensive I drink the more healthy choice of water. Over all I was very pleased with the food and service. I'd recommend it to locals as well as visitors who find them selves hungry while visiting Ramona. Be sure to check out the museum across the street. It's free and well worth your time. read more
