Usually I don't like to give bad reviews but I think I have to for this one so that other people can avoid it. 04/24/2022 We ordered Fajita Quesadilla and Beef Fajita for two. As it turns out all of us except one person (who didn't have any of it) has been knocked down with salmonella poisoning. This place was okay. It wasn't amazing and it wasn't bad either. Their prices are pretty good, the people are friendly and know their many really well. Just it was okay. Got two margaritas, frozen, with salt and they tasted like a typical margarita mix. Nothing special about them at all. Had to ask for waters separately because I don't know why. I had the tequila fajitas. The best part was it said it was covered with jack cheese. "Covered" was literally the thinnest 1x1 square of cheese I've seen. Whatever it's bad for me so I'll just ignore it. Their yellow rice was okay. The charro beans weren't good. The tortillas had sat for too long and were super crispy. Would break making a taco. I'm sad that they had such great reviews for how mediocre the food was. Maybe they just had super bad Mexican there and this is the best they have. Don't know. It wasn't disgusting food by any regard. But it wasn't good. Does that make sense? Hard to describe but I think that sums it up perfectly. Small place that is totally packed on this Friday night. Of course the group of 16 is taking up most of the space. But there was an empty table for us. Once seated, the dude at the table next to me received his order of fajitas. The smell made me drool and I knew that is what I was getting too. My wife ordered a plate of small tacos. My chicken fajitas came on a bed of grilled onions and served with rice, charro beans (which I've never heard of) and pico. First, the rice and beans. I have no idea what kind of magic is used to make these. Certainly very different than the typical refried beans and Spanish rice I'm used to. This was so tasty that other stuff I'm used to will now forever be known as "slop". The chicken in the fajitas was grilled perfectly and had a nice char taste. The onions were sweet and perfectly grilled. For the small tacos, my wife took one bite and said to me "5 stars"! She did ask for a lime wedge to squeeze over the taco. My only question, is why isn't there a line out of the door? If I lived in the area I'd eating here a lot. Our server was prompt, attentive, friendly and nice (and cute). We're thinking of trying Sunday breakfast. read more

Eeks, not sure what the big rave is about this place. Queso was bland, small, and watered down. Even with the hamburger meat, it wasn't much better. Chicken quesadilla was decent, but certainly not worth the 11.99 you pay. There are upcharges for anything beef and for using a credit card. The chimichamga was about the size of 2 flautas put together. This place is located on the edge of an older strip mall. Chips tasted more like store bought, and the salsa was temp warm, but not spicy. They also served it in very small bowls, so my husband and I went through about 4 or 5. I used to live in the area, and we are in town to visit. I think we will find somewhere else to eat tomorrow. Disappointed that we paid 35 for such a small amount of food, that wasn't all that good. Perhaps Las Fontanas in New Braunfels has spoiled me and my Tex-Mex cravings. read more

Okay, this place takes the whole damn cake. Rana's was by FAR the best Tex-Mex we have had in the greater Houston area, and one of the best overall places we have been to since moving here. The salsa they bring you with the chips is hot, savory, and sizzling. As for the food, my husband got a chile relleno special they were running and he devoured it. As for me, in one of my previous reviews I tried the enchiladas verdes at another (really good) spot in Houston. It's one of my favorite dishes, so I figured I'd try it here to see how it compared. Both were good, but this one was just that much better. The entire plate was so hot it took a minute to cool down and everything was so fresh. The verde sauce was tangy and bursting with flavor. The rice was great, and the beans surprised me; they were seasoned with what I made out to be at least some cumin and maybe chili powder. I prefer plainer beans, but these were still top notch. We finished off the meal with the ice cream/apple churro dessert (I didn't get a picture). The ice cream was definitely made in-house and the churros were hot, sugary, and scrumptious. I couldn't believe something could taste so good. My husband said they "tasted like Christmas." Can't beat the service either. My husband and I came in mid-afternoon after driving up from Houston and running several errands in the area. We were tired and hangry, but our waiter made our day. He was polite, wonderfully friendly, happy, and quick. He joked and chatted with us and went and above and beyond to make us comfortable, and we left with smiles on our faces thanks to his friendliness. Our bill for all of this was like $24 pre tip. Seriously, go support this restaurant and you will be glad you did. Superior food, superior service, and well deserving of five stars. read more

BEST mexican food I've had outside of Southern California! I still don't get what "Tex-Mex" totally is...but this place does Mex awesomely. You get complimentary warm salsa and fresh tortilla chips. I highly recommend getting the guac salad (which is really guac). It is the best guac I've had in years! The main dishes are great, it's hard to go wrong. The apple churros are AMAZING! Not too oily and perfectly filled. The ice cream it comes with is thick and delicious. The staff is very friendly, prompt service, and they thoroughly seem to enjoy their job. Food was delicious, pastor and beef mini tacos are perfect portion and delicious. Beans and rice have something special going on over normal Mexican food. Had a late lunch today at Rana's and it was very good! I ordered the Carnitas Plate. Carnitas came out sizzling on an iron platter. Yummy smell. The tomatillo sauce they serve with it is the best I've ever had. Seems to have some extra "umpf" that I've never tasted in other tomatillo sauces. Charro beans (navy) were good also, nice change from pinto beans. The guac salad with pico de gallo was very good also. Very good place, family run and well run. read more

I was a disappointed with this place. It was close to closing time. Much like many other places right now, dining in isn't very popular. The place was empty. Just as I was parking, I did see a couple drive away into the nearby neighborhood on a golf cart with some drinks, so the close locals must like it. I ordered some appetizer items: a cheese quesadilla, chicken fajita nachos, and chips with queso (taco meat added). The quesadilla was made with only Monterey Jack cheese, I think. It was okay, but I was hoping for more than one cheese would be used. The disappointment was with the fajita nachos. Maybe they better fresh from the oven inside the restaurant. I don't know. This was just chopped up chicken sitting on a top of a few chips and not a lot of cheese. It was bland. And I didn't like the chips. I might give them another chance in the future. read more

Ate here while passing through Conroe on a road trip. It's a mom and pop restaurant where you seat yourself. Service was very good. Excellent food! They provide a fantastic avocado verdes salsa and a roasted tomato salsa with your chips. The mini tacos, rice and beans were all incredible flavorful! Lots of meat choices. They brought out even more sauces for the tacos. I was also impressed with portion size and how full I was. If I'm ever driving though Conroe in the future I will definitely eat here again! read more

We were looking for non-chain Mexican food on our way out of Houston and so pleased we ended up at Rana's. The fire roasted salsa and chips were wonderful. Hubs had sour cream chicken enchiladas that he adored (his version of Mexican food) and I had to go for the Mole, because seriously, not everyone has Mole- and it did not disappoint, delicious depth of flavor and spice, always a treat to get great Mole!! Service was very friendly and helpful. Drinks were great, I had a top shelf margarita on the rocks and my husband had a frozen sangria margarita in super frosty jumbo schooner mugs.....great way to start our weekend! The steak fajitas were very high quality, and delicious. The fish, the queso, salsa and guacamole were all very fresh and outstanding taste. The waitress was very good. Restaurant was clean. Food was not real good. Got taco salad. Very little beef. Mostly refried beans. They charge an extra $1.99 if you chose beef as your meat. They claim because of Covid19. I will say here Covid19 gets blamed for a lot of things now a day. They also have an administration fee of $1.45 added to the bill. This was not disclosed until we got our bill. Needless to say we will not be coming back. read more

My daughter and I were returning from up past Conroe, and she was hungry. So I pulled over and went to yelp to see what was rated well and was something she wanted. We ended up here. She ordered her fajita and I a fajita burrito. The place is rated very well on Yelp and looks very nice when you enter. The staff greeted us and sat us right away. I am a watcher, not creepy like a stalker, I am just very observant. The table next to us was just vacated, the dishes were cleared mostly,, but not wiped down. It still had a couple of silverware setups on it that appeared unused, but still on an an unclean table. The table behind us was served, but asked for silverware. The waitress reached behind her to the dirty table and grabbed a setup. To me, that should never happen. Not sure who touched it that sat at that table, or where their hands may have been. A little gross in my opinion. Ok a lot. We got our food, and my first bite just did not taste right. I tried to separate the items a little to taste each item and found that the meat tasted funky. I sent my plate back. They were very good about it and removed it from the check. I tried the meat from my daughters food and it tastes the same, but by that time, she was almost done. Overall, it was my first time and last there. The food wasn't tasty to me, and there are far too many good mexican restaurants around, to take a chance to go back to see if it was just a bad day. read more

6/18/17 Sunday 7:00pm Sadly Yelpers got this one wrong! The business is located in a strip shopping center and it was pretty dead for a Father's Day evening. We are seated quickly as the place is dead. I still tried to remain hopeful. Maybe it was just not busy because of the area and it not being a chain. The sever is friendly and; I get the free margarita thank you Yelpers! Hubby opts for free queso since he is not a drinker. We look over the menu and end up getting the verde enchiladas 2 chicken fajita and 1 carnitas. The warm chips, hot salsa and queso come out. The chips are not light but definitely fresh made. The salsa has a good kick and it is fresh. The queso sadly tastes like Taco Bell cheese sauce with a little bit of cilantro and white onion but didn't really help the taste. The margarita was good they didn't skimp on the liquor! We ordered a small guacamole and although fresh and loaded with tomatoes and jalapeño it had a lot of lime so you could barely taste the avocado. The enchiladas arrive and they were okay. Very limey. The chicken fajita were diced up little chunks. Not really tasted like fajitas, shredded chickens would have been better. Bean and rice were average although a little skimpy on the plate. Immediately the waiter got my chips and salsa and modelo the salsa was really good and it was warm which was cool. He recommended the fajitas tequila so that's what I got. When they came out they were really sizzling, a very cool plate. They came with pick and tortillas, but not enough for the amount of food. The food was very tasty though, the bacon really helps. A great little mexican restaurant with cheap, delicious meals. The chimichanga is good, but the mini tacos are by far the best tacos in town. Corn tortilla, beef, cilantro, onion and whatever you do - don't forget to ask for the green sauce. This was my go-to spot when I worked in that area. My mouth is watering just writing this review. You must stop here! Never had white beans prepared with Tex-Mex but I'll forever want these beans served with our food. Seriously, one of the best side dishes I've ever eaten. Not to dismiss any of the other food - the fresh guacamole was spectacular. Got some to go and had it the next morning as avocado toast and if it is possible it was even better. The bacon wrapped shrimp was also very good. The fish and crane tacos as well as the shredded chicken tostadas were good but tasted a bit bland compared to the other over the moon flavors. Oh and the roasted pepper salsa - I could keep going but you should just try it for yourself. Staff is friendly, kind and genuinely wish for you to enjoy their quaint restaurant.
