On busy Hillsborough Ave In tampa one of many places to choose from. I was sure I knew what I wanted to order before arriving but once I got there and went over the menu again I went with the Greek Omelette which so good I'm still thinking about it! I would definitely go back for that! I gave it 3 stars because the coffee was terrible. Literally tasted like hot water. I asked the server if they had anything stronger but unfortunately was it. Only thing that made it tolerable was the fact that they let you take and use your own coffee mugs! The waitress was super friendly and gave off a positive vibe. We went for breakfast. The menu is super big! There are so many options. I ended up getting an egg white omelette with all vegetables and home fries and my other half got the corn beef hash meal with biscuit and gravy. I used to come here once a week for a year straight when I lived in Tampa. I haven't been back until today, about 8 months. A sign outside indicated under new management. I have to say they are failing. Our server didn't understand how to take an order, left the restaurant to wander the parking lot. Who knows if she washed her hands, probably taking a smoke break. Sad to see this place fall so far in the service department. Food was better than average, but the portions are the smallest breakfast portions I've ever seen. Embarrassing. A friend and I went to the Ranch House for breakfast; they have a large menu. Friend had eggs and bacon; I had a soft scramble with tomatoes, jalapenos, onions, and cheese -- so good! Their biscuits are huge and great with honey. Glad I didn't read the reviews before because my biscuit was not at all hard. Claudia was a friendly and superb waitress. This morning we went for breakfast and it was pretty good. We ordered the Greek omelet, eggs Benedict, and kids silver dollar pancakes and bacon. They start you off with coffee that is boiling hot, which I love, but it was so watery nothing could save it. We did ask for a different batch, the waitress said it's all made the same so it wouldn't make a difference -- not premium service, but we went with it. The omelette was delish, full of fresh veggies, feta, and you can opt for gyro meat in it as well, which we did and it's a must if you order the Greek omelette. The eggs Benedict was just ok for me, the eggs were cooked perfectly, with an amazing running yoke, but the hollandaise sauce on top had almost a sour taste to it that I found off putting. The children's plates were the cutest ever, expecting circular silver dollar pancakes, and to receive the little animals made the kids so happy. Overall the restaurant was exactly what you would expect from an older diner; it's quiet with regulars at the counter, and that mom and pop feel that makes you comfy. A town and country institution. I've driven by this place a thousand times and never once gone in. So one Sunday morning, after staying at the Beau's home, we opted to go here for breakfast. He apparently used to go here when he was a kid. Opening the door was like stepping back in time. It is most certainly a greasy spoon, but that's fine. The place hasn't been updated in 30 years but the food is good and the service is amazing. We both had breakfast food, I ordered their skillet and ate nearly every bite of it except for the potatoes, the man ordered eggs, bacon and french toast. Mind you, it said 3 pieces of french toast. My gson took me here on Mothersday. unfortunately we had to wait 45 minutes for a simple breakfast and pancakes, of course we ordered coffee and we're not taking care of in that either because our cups often ran empty and I had to flag someone down, just to get my coffee refilled. I talked to the owners and they told me our order is on the grill but they served a 7 top before us which came in after us. We were ready to walk out when it had been 45 minutes and still nothing, including reassuring us it's coming up. The owners wife was crappy to us when we said we were getting going to leave. I'm in town for a few days, so I was looking for local places to try. This one caught my eye with reviews like "Best breakfast I had my whole stay." I went in around 8:15 on Sunday morning and was greeted by a very friendly young lady who offered for me to choose my own seat. She followed close behind with a menu and list of specials, and she took my drink order right away. As she dropped off my coffee and water, she said that a server would be by shortly. This is where it went south. The server working my section attended to the table behind me, across from me and next to me, but has yet to even speak to me. I waited several minutes as she made multiple trips by these other three tables, walking by me every time. She took the order of the gentleman across from me, and as still not even acknowledged that I'm sitting there. I made eye contact with her twice with no response. So after 7 minutes of this, I simply left. I offered to pay for the cup of coffee I received but was told that it was on the house. I didn't cause a ruckus or make a scene at all, but you could tell the entire service staff (4-5 of them) all knew exactly what had happened. It's important to mention that the restaurant was no where even close to busy. The 4 occupied tables I mentioned, including mine, were 4 of the 5 occupied in the entire restaurant. Pleasantly surprised by this morning diner that's just a stone's throw away from my apartment, yet another hidden gem that i have never tried after all these years of having lived out here. It was whole chunks of broccoli florets with juicy real bacon, both in abundance through the omelet. It tasted like they used fresh eggs, which was a HUGE plus for me. I thought it was a good call to use tomato slices as the side since i was getting full kinda fast. Luckily not too full to enjoy my Cuban toast, which was actually very well buttered. I was rather pleased with their delivery service (they have their own) on their website that was very easy to use and they got to my front door with remarkable timing even though they initially couldn't find my unit. Woah. This place is straight out of the 70s. Everything is just so old... but in a good way! The decor, walls, floors, booths, look totally original to the building. Even the patrons are a bunch of grandmas and grandpas. Speaking of which, I have decided I love eating at places where old people frequent- because they're ususally empty-nesters and aren't toting around obnoxious screaming babies. Major plus. Nothing ruins my meal faster than a shrieking baby. The waitresses are friendly although the service may not be the most expedient- food came out quick, but it took quite a while to get our check (we had to ask two different waitresses). We just embraced the fact that we were in a time warp and assumed they were operating on 70s time. They, apparently, also have 70s era pricing, which is awesome. $6.99 for corned beef hash, home fries, two eggs, and toast? Don't mind if I do! The food itself was great. The corned beef hash was crispy and not overwhelmingly salty, like a lot of other places, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Next time however, I'll opt for hashbrowns instead of home fries, as they were a little bland. The thing I most appreciated about their food is that it's not greasy. It was nostalgia that brought me back to Ranch House during my trip to Tampa. The Ranch House has been here forever, and forever ago I was a bag boy at the U-save (u-slave) across the street. The U-Save is now Bravo Supermarket and the neighborhood has changed, but Ranch House remains the same. Ranch House is still a solid breakfast joint serving the regular standards. It's a small place with a coffee bar, eight or nine tables and four and a half booths. Yes, there is one half of a booth. Stop by. Seat yourself. Order some greasy bacon. Enjoy the scenery. At the End of the Day - Once in the Ranch Houses' parking lot, look for the flashy pick-up parked in the handicapped slot with the personalized "PIMP" license plate and try to match it with its owner sitting inside. Feels more like something from a small southern town then Tampa. Crowd was mostly families and elderly. The menu is large - a lot of staples like different omelettes, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, waffles. Also a lot of named combinations that include all of the above. A lot of options, and at a cheap price. Girlfriend got a biscuit and gravy, with eggs and bacon. I went with the southern fried steak, biscuit, mashed potatoes and gravy and home fries. Mmm, carbs. The food was ok. I definitely feel Nicki's food taste better (as well as having better coffee). But the price was hard to beat. You get your money's worth here. I am from Phoenix, Arizona and this is a great local business. We were driving by and noticed the parking lot was full so figured we would stop in and check it out. I can see why it is so crowded as I too, was pleasantly pleased with the service, food and atmosphere. They have a specific option on their menu to contact the customer if something isn't available. When I received my order, my wife's food was completely missing. I did not receive a phone call to let me know it was not available. How can you have that extra option on your menu when ordering and then not even follow through? A friend suggested this restaurant and I always try to go to local places, especially in these tough times for local businesses. I went in with high hopes as it was a full menu and the waitress took our drink orders as soon as we sat down. I ordered the basic breakfast of eggs, grits and ham, and it was brought out quickly. Unfortunately, that's the last positive thing I can say. The eggs and ham were cold. Not like warm, but actually cold! If the waitress had come back to the table to check in, I would have told her, but she was in an active conversation with some other people about her son and his trouble with schoolwork. When she brought the check, she could clearly see I hadn't touched the eggs or grits. Without being rude or angry, I just told her it was cold and I couldn't eat it, but we didn't want to wait and she cleared the plates. We waited another 10 minutes, another lady put the bill on the table and said "we took 10% off because you didn't like it! then walked away. They didn't remove my inedible meal and take 10% off his, they took 10% off my meal, the one I gave back! My friend paid the check because we had to be somewhere and he wanted to avoid any conflict. The bottom line is bad food happens, but if they had removed it and basically seemed to care, then I wouldn't have felt so strongly that I wrote this. Small local restaurants have been most impacted by the requirements for seating less people and people not eating out as often so for a restaurant to serve bad food and provide bad service there's no excuse unless they don't care. So save yourself the trip, and do not go to this restaurant! read more
