a plate of food on a table

I used YELP to find a good Mexican place to eat. So where off the beaten path and somewhere I've never been to before. Unfortunately, total let down. I had the Mexicana enchiladas. Plate came out and the servings of the rice and beans were small and they were dry. The salsa was good but very spicy. We ordered a soda and water and when the waitress filled up the water glass, she made a face and said oh I'm going to get you another glass. I think there may have been a bug in it, but not 100% sure. However there were 2 bugs on our table and it wasn't cleaned before we sat down. We will not go back. I don't recommend this place.

My kids go to school over this way. Rancherita has been calling my name to come try. Rancherita is only open for breakfast and lunch. I stopped by myself one afternoon before picking them up from school. I got the carne asada. It was thinly shaven meat with lots of onions, but it lacked in flavor..sadly. The kids have been wanting to try it, so today was early release so we came in. One got steak and eggs, the other got pancakes. Say they wanted to eat mexican but orders pancakes. Go figure. Anyway, son got mexican potatoes with his steak eggs. Sautéed potatoes with onions, jalapenos, and tomatoes. So good. His steak was overcooked. No complaints on the pancakes. I got the red pork stew. I really liked it, but it came out lukewarm. Eating with the homemade tortillas was yum. Just would've been better if it wasn't on the verge of getting cold. Also very slow for not being that busy. There are better places in this area, but I think this place has a lot of potential.

I decided to try this restaurant for lunch while working in South Fort Worth. I'm glad I did. I was greeted by a server and the cook who were moving tables. The server immediately came to my table even though they were still cleaning up after a party of 30! I ordered the small guac (only $3.50) and it was fresh and delicious. I ordered the chili relleno and declined tortillas. But when my meal came out the cook brought out a tortilla and proudly told me they were hand made -- and it was so tasty! (I'll restart the diet tomorrow) The relleno was huge and VERY good with a deliciously spicy pablano and a rich tomato-based sauce on top. From the excellent attention to the basics to the affordable prices, this place is well worth venturing to!

Food is always delicious and made fresh. Has a very much mom and pop feel to it. Has very attentive servers that are the friendliest I've ever experienced.

The last time I was here it was 2013. When we visited this place then I had not a single nice thing to say about the food or the service. However, today I went back for lunch after 6 years. I have to say that they have improved drastically!!! I ordered 3 tacos. 2 or carne asada and 1 or barbacoa. I didn't order anything from the lunch menu even though they have lunch specials. I ordered the the asada on flour tortillas and the barbacoa and corn. However, what I got was 1 carne asada on flour, 1 carne asada on corn and 1 barbacoa on flour. I ate it anyway. It was pleasant. They actually make their flour tortillas in the restaurant so that's a nice bonus since most Mexican restaurants only offer ones bought in a bag that have been sitting on a shelf for 3 months! The corn tortillas were very good. The flour was homemade. A little over cooked but homemade. When you have a taco made with flour tortillas, they should not be able to be broken in half. They bend. Because now you have a tostada. The flavor was still nice. If you order a soda there keep in mind that they come in cans and you do not get free refills. They only drinks that come with free refills is water. We went around 12:30 and it was not busy which is a pleasant change from the usual lunch rush. Our waitress was pretty nice. If you're paying with card be ready to know how much you want to leave your waitress because they will ask how much tip you want to leave before they complete the transaction.

Milanese lunch special, thin beef, breaded and fried. Like a country fried steak. The right amount of food for me during lunch!

I'm not sure if they just changed suppliers or not but things have gotten smaller / worse quality while the price has gone up for what arguably is standard breakfast fare. Case in point: the Chicken or Egg Sandwich. Used to be my go to, but after having it recently again after not coming for quite some time it was a disappointment. The chicken cutlet used was thin compared to the thick fried version it had before, everything was a bit beige, and a rather small serving of hash browns accompanied it. I had a standard black coffee alongside it which tasted a bit watered down and my partner has commented that the speciality coffees are not as good as they used to be. Other new additions to the menu aren't exactly what you would expect, for example the Monte Cristo is more a deconstructed version of the Bennigan's classic but it's not obvious unless your waiter tells you. The price is typical of downtown but the food doesn't rise to the occasion and the value proposition for me isn't enough to come back unless something changes. Thats not to say the food is all bad, but seeing what it was prior to their menu change, it's just uninspiring for the price. The service however has remained top tier and every time I have gone I've had fantastic service regardless of if it's a Sunday morning with a hour long wait or a quiet weekday lunch.

It's quite pricey, and some of the add-ons are deceptive (e.g. paying $3 for pure maple syrup, with no mention on the menu of the pancakes/french toast already coming with syrup). For those wondering about parking, the restaurant validates for city garages #3 and #5 (as of July 2026), so park there!

While we were there, I observed employees loading whole oranges into the fresh orange juice machine. Several oranges fell onto the floor, and I watched the employees pick the oranges up and place them back into the hopper to be juiced. I asked to speak with the owner but was told the owner was not there. A man who identified himself as the general manager came out. I explained what I had observed. The only question he asked was, "Do you know how many oranges fell onto the floor?" I replied that the number wasn't the issue. My concern was that oranges that had contacted the floor were being put back into the juicer. I did not feel my concern was taken seriously, and I requested the owner's contact information. I did not receive it. Because I believe this is a serious food safety concern, I reported this to the Highland Village Code Enforcement Division for investigation. We were excited to celebrate a special occasion here, but instead we left concerned about the restaurant's food handling practices and the response from management. Based on what I personally witnessed, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Bland, flat, and in desperate need of seasoning, we reached for the salt shaker, which helped, but shouldn't have been necessary. The pickles, to their credit, were doing their absolute best and were genuinely the only flavor happening on that plate. Skip these. The pickles deserve better supporting cast. The Cheeseburger with Wasp Sauce on a potato bun, however, is a different story entirely. We ordered it medium, half expecting the kitchen to interpret that however it pleased, but it arrived cooked exactly as requested, which felt like a small victory worth celebrating. The icing wasn't too sweet and complimented the roll nicely. For the table, we had the pollo frito biscuit w/duck fat potatoes, Brisket Benedict w/okra and the Fixe Breakfast entree w/maple sausage and potatoes. The pollo Frito was delicious, the chicken was seasoned well and maintained crunch even within the biscuit. Duck fat potatoes were also good but were even better after adding some salt. The brisket benny was okay, the texture of the brisket was very odd and didn't really hold up to the egg. Although the okra had a great flavor the batter was a bit too thick which made it chewy. However the bathroom sinks may just be an elaborate prank pulled on every guest of this hotel. There are many photos already on here, but the pictures don't do it justice. The sink is approximately 7" x 12", and has a mirror jutting out over a portion of it, leaving you with roughly 4-5" of functional sink space. This will be the smallest sink you've ever used in your life (and I've spent lots of time in NYC and Chicago, where I've used some very small sinks). Need to wash your hands? You're getting water on your feet. Shave? Better wear a bathing suit. Wash your face? A wetsuit is recommended. Accidentally turn the water on too high when doing any of the above? Bet you didn't know you were about to take a full shower! I'm not sure the building codes in Dallas, but apparently you can get away with installing dollhouse fixtures here. Choose another property just simply so you don't have to deal with the hassle.
