I'm in upstate NY for the weekend, and knew I wanted to revisit the Scotch 'N Sirloin. This was my family's special occasion restaurant since 1968! And, they were running an anniversary special... buy one entree, get one 50% off. My cousin & I each enjoyed a drink, a glass of Canyon Oaks Cab ($9.50) for me & a made-to-order Sangria ($12.50) for her. Both were delicious. We ordered the same entree, a 7-oz. Filet Mignon with a baked potato ($47). The steak was perfectly cooked & melt-in-your-mouth tender. Definitely one of the top three steaks I've ever had! With the promotion, our final bill ended up being $60 each including tip. Our waiter was terrific. If you can get past the fact that, from the outside, the restaurant looks like a shack in a closed shopping mall parking lot, you'll enjoy an amazing steak dinner. read more

We decided to try Scotch & Sirloin for the first time, and while the experience had some positives, it ultimately fell short of expectations. Upon entering, the restaurant has a very dated, 1970s-style atmosphere. While some may find that nostalgic, it felt more worn than classic. We were seated quickly, which was a good start, but the issues began with the food. The bruschetta was not what we expected--it resembled more of a flatbread pizza than a traditional bruschetta. My wife ordered a butterflied filet cooked medium well with a lobster tail and a Caesar salad (no anchovies). Unfortunately, the steak was overcooked and lacked flavor, and the lobster tail didn't seem particularly fresh. The Caesar salad was average at best. I ordered the prime rib medium, which also missed the mark. The temperature and seasoning were inconsistent, and it didn't have the rich, tender quality you'd expect from a steakhouse with this kind of reputation. Service was acceptable but not memorable--nothing particularly wrong, but nothing that stood out either. Overall, while we were hopeful going in, the quality of the food didn't justify the price. We sat in the bar next to the fireplace. That was the highlight of our dinner. We had the oysters for an appetizer. They were fine. Prime rib was ok but they gave us the wrong side. Stuffed sole was not good and tasted old. Chicken and rigatoni was fine. Our server was dishing out bad vibes along with our food. Sorry to say that it was Just not a great experience. read more

In a moment of serendipity I made a last-minute reservation from another local Italian steak house... five minutes away because they weren't honoring the reservation that I had made and confirmed for months. We could not have been happier... celebrating my daughter's graduation from college. The food and service at Scotch. N Sirloin was top-notch. The oysters, the escargot, the wedge salad.... And my 16 ounce boneless ribeye...all fantastic. In fact, the ribeye was better than the same exact cut that I had ...at what is considered one of the best steakhouse's in New York City right now ...the night before. This is a long time steak restaurant in our area. The decor is old timey but classic. The bar area is our favorite spot to eat in the winter because they have a large, real fire pit in the center of the room that you can sit next to. We ordered their French onion soup - it was perfect! We shared a salad and ordered a delicious ribeye and baked potatoes. Everything was delicious! The only caution here is the service. They bring your food out fast- which may be good for some. But for those who want to enjoy their soup, then their salad, then their steak with a little bit of space you probably shouldn't order it all at the same time. They brought our entree out before they even brought the salad. The steak looked great-juicy and perfect! Then they returned it to the kitchen bc we said we hadn't even gotten our salads. Then when it was time for our steak it looked dry bc they had probably been just keeping it warm. The steak was still tasty but for such a pricey meal you would expect appropriately timed, top notch service. OMG! My family and I have not been to Scotch & Sirloin in many years. It used to be the " gold standard" for other area eateries to compare themselves with... We decided to visit this location last night to celebrate a family event. As we entered it was like entering a time capsule. Not one thing in 30 years has changed (which is ok), but dark, drab is not too inviting. We we seated at a nice table and found it and the surrounding area clean, neat and orderly. The old salad bar sat empty and pushed up into a corner like they were preparing to move out. We had an efficient waiter who took our drink orders quickly. As we sat and waited, we noticed only two small groups of folks sitting nearby... otherwise the place was empty. We received no bread, no butter. Our orders: 2-French onion soups ( YUM). We ordered "Beef tips Royale", which consisted of a large bowl with instant mashed potatoes in it and within the center of the mashed was gravy with tons of packaged mushrooms and very few small pieces of beef. It truly looked like something served in school cafeteria on ground beef & gravy day. Taste was ok, but nothing but instant potatoes and gravy for $30. Next ordered were bone in NY strip steaks. Arrived done as requested and while one was hot the other and the baked potato were warm, not hot. No vegetable, no side dish just steak and potato.those were $52.00 each. Next ordered bone in ribeye, which was also served warm, not hot and all grizzle at $56.00. Total bill: $301.32. I decided to write this to warn others not to waste their hard earned money at this location. While I used to be a long time 20 x's per year customer, I will not return again. In addition: As all Syracuse folks know Shopping-town Mall has fallen into a terrible condition as well as all mall roads and parking. Scotch & Sirloin appears to fit right into the area. I don't think it's been cleaned up, painted and/or repaired outside since 1999. A person visiting from out of area would think the place were abandoned from the outside. This place used to be known for great food and friendly service -- but I guess every dog has its day. Our table waited over an hour for our meals, which we understood since we all ordered steak (Bday) party of 10. Unfortunately, when the food finally arrived, most of the steaks were undercooked -- not what we ordered. We sent them back, only to have them returned the same way a second time. To make matters worse, the service was miserable. Our server seemed unhappy to be there, got several of our orders wrong, and made the entire experience uncomfortable. Honestly, if you're looking for top-notch service, its a hit or miss consistency. On another note Bistro has great food and ambiance is great - highly recommend it. 52 dollars for a bone in rib eye badly needing seasoning... how about just salt and I felt like I was disturbing the staff by bringing our business them to them . Open only 4 hours Thursday through Sunday you'd think it would not be too much but clearly it was. The restaurant was half empty but we wouldn't seat us until our whole party arrived ; asking if we had a reservation... the bar are with fire place was beautiful...the bar service was not barely acknowledging us taking a while for a wine and Diet Coke then a bill. The back area where we sat had a room with long out of use salad bar area and back area that was ok to sit at. The clams casino my better half mom received weren't clams casino; they were according to her good but not clams casino ... when she asked for ipa on tab the server' didn't know what they had .. then he cane back with what they had 1 ipa on tap seriously felt like he didn't care . The Dewitt location is a long way from Rochester, but we try to go once a year as a tradition. Only one of 3 S&S's left. We had a great dinner thanks to extremely accommodating staff and good food. Their bar drinks are still good especially the spicy Bloody Mary. We started by sharing a Romaine Caesar salad, spilt and plated in the kitchen. It was delicious and served warm. We asked for bread and got warm, crusty bread. No charge, but our server said they don't automatically bring it out. Just request. We shared the large bone-in Porterhouse. It worked out perfectly for us and came out medium rare as requested. Side was seasonal fresh vegetables and we added mushrooms. The mushrooms were much too salty and were immediately replaced upon request. We had deserts, hot fudge and the S&$ parfait (not on the menu but you can still request their mint chocolate chip ice cream with crème de menthe). Unfortunately, no crème brûlée. Ok, we do miss the salad bar and some of the old entrees are gone (petite teriyaki) but we're glad they are still in business, trying to survive in a different world. Long story short, this used to be one of the best places for a good meal and dining experience in Syracuse. This place is terrible now, terrible service, terrible food, terrible atmosphere if you are not on the side where the bar is and the fire pit is. The servers used to have personality and take great care in tending to the tables that they were waiting on, they are all scattered now and have no personalities and could care less. This is just a job to them and there is no personal touch anymore like in years past of this restaurant. The food is terrible, so disappointed and will never return. Not even one star. Man this place used to be such a classy, good restaurant. Oh how the mighty have fallen. No more salad bar, no bread, and even with their anniversary special over $300 for seven people one of which was a child. My mom got scallops and got sick that night. My husband got beef tips which honestly was a bowl of like cream sauce and small chunks of meat, he also got sick that night, and lastly my brothers girlfriend got a steak sandwich and she got sick that night. I got a wedge salad with salmon and the salmon was so chewy I stopped eating it so I didn't get sick and the wedge salad did not have the center of the lettuce cut out so it was hard and inedible. My brother got chicken cordon bleu which he said was pretty good and my dad got prime rib which was decent. My son got the kids sliders which he said the fries were good but the sliders were so tall they were hard to eat and he only ate one. Both my son and I just got soda while everyone else had a cocktail and I guess I shouldn't have assumed they had free refills on soda because they didn't. Lastly I asked one of the waitresses if the anniversary special would be applied to our bill as she was clearing plates and she said of course. When the bill came out no special so we had to wait to flag them down so they could do it. This was my parent's 47th anniversary dinner and my dad picked it because they used to be such a great restaurant but man did it ever disappoint. read more

We went here for our Anniversary and had a nice meal. We have been here a couple of times and enjoy the ambiance. My boyfriend ordered the prime rib. It came with a baked potato and he ordered a side of mushrooms. He was very pleased with his meal. He was a little disheartened when they did not bring out any bread or rolls. When I inquired about this we were told we could purchase a half loaf of Italian bread for an extra $2 so we did. I wasn't feeling like a huge meal. I began with the wedge salad which is always a favorite of mine. The bacon was a bit hard and chewy but at least it was real. The croutons were excellent. Just the right consistency and flavor. I also ordered the mussels appetizer special. They came in a large bowl with a side of crostini. The ones I ate were very good. Unfortunately about half of them were not open. I am not sure if they were bad or not cooked long enough. I have eaten mussels many times snd never had this experience. The manager offered to bring me out more, but I had had my fill at that point. He was very nice snd said he would take a percentage off the bill. Finally we ordered a dessert. My boyfriend had been craving cheesecake and I always love a chocolate peanut butter pie. These were delivered along with a complimentary plate of vanilla ice cream and whipped topping with a lit candle and Happy Anniversary written in the plate. That made our desserts even better. The best part about this restaurant is the way they are trained to serve you. We were told right from the start that the girl was taking our order, but they work as a team there and any of the servers would be available to help us. We had several servers come to our table throughout the evening. Our drinks were always replenished and any need was quickly taken care of. It is a great model. At all times servers are scanning the entire room and making sure everyone has what they need. In the end we were comped the cost of the mussels, but left a generous tip for the excellent staff! Honestly I have no idea why anyone goes here. If it were conveniently located I guess I could see stopping for an overpriced cocktail, but driving to shoppingtown for it? Ten years ago they served me a gross glass of wine with dinner and tried to make it out like I was a wine noob for not wanting a half inch of sediment in my glass. I swore I'd never go back. Recently my wife made plans with her family to go there and convinced me to at least try it - it had been a decade after all. I got a porter at the bar - $8.00 before tax and tip, small mug. Nowhere near a pint. Beer was ok. Not epic, but a good representation of the style. When it was time to eat, I didn't realize we were eating in the bar and wandered through the restaurant, which had about four tables occupied at 6pm on a Friday. Uh oh. I got back to the bar, sat with my party, and waited over ten minutes for someone to stop by the table. You don't have all day, so I will have to summarize all the reasons I will never go back. Service: visited twice, forgot side of butter and never came back. No water refills. Had to leave table and tap a waiters shoulder to get check after waiting much too long (total time from sitting down was one hour twenty minutes, with no desserts or cocktail orders). Food: meh. Fish and chips was not awful. Fries were weird dry consistency, only like eight of them (they were big at least, more like wedges). I would not have served them to guests. Fish was ok but only two tiny pieces the size of a gortons square. TWENTY SIX DOLLARS. I would have enjoyed a filet-o-fish with fries at McDonald's more, and it would have been substantially less than twenty six dollars. Ambiance: there is a cool fireplace that was not lit and looked kind of sad. Too dark. Good side, no loud music to drown out conversation, I appreciate that. Nobody i ate with reported liking their food beyond "it was ok I guess", including a diner who never even got a chance to ask for her side of butter again because the waiter never came back. This was a BAD experience in terms of food and service, especially considering the eye-popping prices they charge as if they were competent at both of those things. I'm embarrassed I let my wife talk me into it, don't make the same mistake yourself!! Syracuse has good restaurants, dont overlook them for this dusty, sad relic. If you are near shoppingtown, the chilis franchise has better food, and much better service and prices, that's how bad S&S is. Do not go, even if your wife says so. Fool me once, shame on you. For some reason I seem to forget about Scotch n Sirloin. But everything we visit here, we are left satisfied and happy! They're doing a seafood theme for the month of August '22 on top of their regular menu, and we tried a few delicious items. We love the bistro side, especially in the winter with the large firepit. For years we always looked forward to the Scotch, Post COVID it's not the same place. Gone is the lush salad bar with bread, and the professional servers, and red terrycloth napkins with large steak knives. Steak was mediocre at best. Our guests at the table said that I cook a way better steak at home, especially for the price. There was one senior server, he has been there for years, could give hoot about our table and service, we had to hound them for the bill afterword's, and it was like pulling teeth to find some one to help. The bar and fireside pit was awesome, just like I always remembered sipping a Manhattan on the rocks, that part of the Scotch is still intact. I wish they would go back to their original set up. Salad bar, bread, and fair prices. Current menu is way over priced for what you get. Need to improve service, maybe the seasoned staff that is still their is also upset about the declining changes, and they are scowling too read more

Haven't been in 9 years since my disappointing birthday dinner. We chose to sit in the bistro for my sons birthday as it is quiet and more private. As noted the salad bar is gone but they do not serve a salad or bread with the meals at all. I ordered the caprese salad with grilled salmon, which for $20 was a rather small but fresh and cooked well salmon served with 5 thick slices of firm tomato and a good amount of sliced mozzarella drizzled with balsamic. Tasty but overpriced. The wine I ordered came with 2 noticeable pieces of cork which I sent back and opted for the Thursday night half price bottle of a different wine same category. Waiter was very good and the charge for the glass was removed immediately from the bill. Glasses run $9.50 to $13 and half priced bottles $24 and up. That is the 3 stars. They were out of prime rib due to a Thursday special not sure what it was, which was disappointing but we had decided to give the place another try so my son ordered a boneless steak which was tender but without flavor guess no seasoning? The mound of potatoes looked appetizing but were cold. The steak was to be served with his choice of beaujolais sauce and added order of Sherry marinated mushrooms. After asking the sauce and mushrooms were brought out. Mushrooms may have danced in Sherry but certainly not marinated for any length of time. All in all given the pricing of the mediocre food we will not return. Delmonicos serves better flavor larger portions for lower price point. read more

It had been a bucket list item of mine to eat here someday, knowing that my parents had in the 70's. My 60th birthday seemed to be a good opportunity, and my wife made reservations, she was asked when the reservation was made if it was a special night or anything, and she told them it was my 60th birthday. We got there just as they were opening, and had to wait just a few minutes, then we were seated. We were informed of the "tag" team style of wait staff, as one may take our order, another may deliver it. We ordered a water and a soda to begin. The sodas were extremely small, and we figured that we would have to pay for refills, so we never got one. To be fair, the wait staff never asked, or came over to refill our waters. I was disappointed in that there was no bread offered, and that I had to pay $10 for a salad. I realize they used to have a salad bar, but on top of the pricey dinners, to have to add that much for a salad seems to be nickel and diming people. I ordered an 11oz Filet, Medium and my wife ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu. The side offerings were all starches, this would have been a good place for a little side salad to be offered with the dinner, but i guess that would cut into them charging $10 for a wedge salad. Our food arrived and my steak while a little more medium rare than medium was tasty, and the chicken cordon bleu was nice and hot. The baked potatoes were nothing special, but then it's a potato. At the end of the meal we were asked if we wanted any dessert, being as how we were both kind of full we didn't have any. We were wondering if there was a plan to do anything for my birthday, as they had asked when the reservation was made, and a few minutes later they brought out a dish of Vanilla and Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream, with some whipped topping, a candle and Happy Birthday in chocolate on the plate. So that was nice. All in all it was good, a little pricey, I can get just as good a steak at Texas Roadhouse for half the price, or better yet, grill a filet myself. It was something that I had been wanting to do, happy i did it, feel no need to do it again. Definitely need a bread and a side salad option. (Edit): In another review i saw that they were also disappointed about no bread, but when they said something they were offered a half loaf of italian bread for an additional $2. I'm not sure if they were just having a bad night, but the service was so bad that it was almost embarrassing. Our server let us know that it was a team serving environment, but we never saw anyone but her. We were sat and waited a long time for her to come. We finally ordered after feeling pretty neglected and our appetizers came with no side plates. We waited and waited, and no one came to check on us. My date kept trying to make eye contact with the servers standing towards the edge of the restaurant, to no avail. I offered to get up and grab them because my dates was getting visibly upset but he wouldn't let me. I was finished with the appetizers before they came over. He ordered a steak and lobster tail and I also ordered a steak. The food was pretty good- I thought my steak was a bit unremarkable. His tail looked over-cooked, he was having trouble getting through it with a knife. Overall, the experience was pretty disappointing and something you'd expect from a chain restaurant, not a fine dining establishment. He seemed excited to bring me there so I felt badly that he was so disappointed. Cute place though, it smelled like smoking wood and was softly lit and lovely. The Tiffany family opened the Scotch 'N Sirloin at ShoppingTown Mall in 1967. They took over a place called the Birches in a strip mall, then the only part of ShoppingTown. In the early years, the menus were hand-painted on empty Lancers wine bottles. The restaurant concentrated on three main things: top sirloin, a baked potato and a trip to the salad bar. "It was about simplicity and quality and volume," Tom Tiffany Jr. said. In 1967, a sirloin with a side and a trip to the salad bar cost $3.75. It's a tad more expensive now. My buddies and I came for a going away dinner, looking for a fancy expensive special occasion type dinner. The dining area was close to empty when we were sat. Both my buddies went for NY strips while I took the opportunity for a fancier choice and went for lamb. Food was brought out quickly and cooked to our liking. The food wasn't bad. The lamb was seasoned well and tasted good, but there wasn't very much to the dish. I understand the price tag applies to the higher quality cuts, but we all felt the serving sizes were a bit on the small side for the prices. Sides were good. Service was fine, but nothing special, especially seeing as the place was close to empty while we were there. Prices were comparable to similar restaurants, but as I stated before, portions were a little on the small side. While I wasn't exactly blown away, I'd give 'em another go. read more

used to be one of the top steak houses around but not anymore. had reservations for 6:30. waited an hour and a half for our food and that was only after complaining. never saw our waiter again except just after ordering to tell us they were out of scallops, lobster and prime rib. one of us order bolognese and they ran out of that too. We knew they were pricey but they don't even include complementary bread or side salads. Oh but apparently there is complementary bread but they won't offer it to you, you have to ask for it like a secret club. when we did flag down wait staff the waitress was snarky with us. Manager did nothing to accommodate us for the downfalls. And when the reservation was made they asked if there were any special occasions, which we were celebrating two birthdays, but they did nothing to celebrate them. So why ask? My wife took me to the Scotch for my birthday last night. We've been there on numerous times over the decades to both the Steakhouse and the Bistro. It's been a while since we were there last. They had the same menu for both the Steakhouse and the Bistro. You could sit in either dining room. We love that idea! My wife had the Chopped Salad w/spinach, romaine, iceberg, artichokes, chickpeas, tomato, red onion, applewood smoked bacon, bleu cheese, walnuts & balsamic vinaigrette. She added the beef tenderloin. Excellent! It's one of her favorites. I usually get the ribeye or there cut but tonight I got the Filet Mignon medium rare. It was cooked to perfection! The best steak I've had in years! I a side of veggies. Also excellent! Martha had the 2020 La Playa, Sauvignon Blanc, Curicó Valley. It had a hint of grapefruit. I asked for red recommendations. I had the 2016 Cantaloro, Super Tuscan and the 2020 Astica, Malbec, Cuyo. Both were excellent! As always the service was excellent! read more

I came up to visit my nephew and he wanted to try this place. The nephew's birthday has past by few days and he was graduating and I couldn't come up for his graduation, so we did birthday/graduation dinner in one thing. We walked in (party of 3), got seated in a booth area in the back of the room, waiter came and gave us menu to review. We were told there would be multiple servers stopping by as they worked in teams. I told my nephew that the table was too small for the amount of food we were going to order lol, he didn't agree at first, but later admitted I was right!! After reviewing the menu we went with the following items: - Spicy Thai Calamari - French Onion Soup - Filet Mignon - Full with garlic mashed potato - Top Sirloin - Full with garlic mashed potato - Slow Roasted Prime Rib - double with sweet potato fries All meals come with their salad buffet, which is your standard salad options with two different kinds of bread. - French Onion Soup - it's your french onion soup, it was good, but tasted the same as other joints, nothing special. - Spicy Thai Calamari - their menu says "Fried & Tossed in Spicy Thai Sauce", but it's your standard Calamari tossed in Sweet Chili Sauce, not sure how that's considered Spicy Thai sauce :) - Salad bar - your standard salad bar. Their specialty is going to be their steak offering. The Filet and top sirloin came out cooked to order, it was flavorful and delicious. It had that nice crust outside, yet tender and soft inside. Their prime rib was also very flavorful and delicious, a lot better then most other places I had prime rib. Definitely would recommend this dish. The service was decent, the cocktail server came by more then other server, there were few times we had to flag down one of the servers to get additional items. I was extremely embarrassed. Where did the old S&S go ??????? This place has really gone down hill big time. I ordered a NY strip steak cooked medium well. I received some thin sliced piece of bone- in meat cooked rare. Sent it back to the kitchen. When it came back it was medium rare. One look at the cooks and you'll understand why it's like it is. This is Not the Scotch and Sirloin from years past. We were seated at the first table and it was freezing. The wait staff was very good but honestly, the food was mediocre. One person in our party ordered a steak medium well, and it came out rare. I ordered medium rare, and it came out well. For the price, you don't get much of a meal. Both of my sons graduated from Syracuse and one now works at the university. And as three guys willing to go out of our to way to find a restaurant that knows how to serve up an amazing porterhouse, tomahawk or bone-in ribeye, I would have sworn we'd eaten at every great steakhouse in the area. Until the other night. My son and I found Scotch 'N Sirloin and were blown away. The ambience was old school chophouse which made sense once the owner shared the decades long history of this family business. When you hear that the proprietors have been at it as long as they have, AND that it was born from a long line of butchers, you know they know good meats. And that was the case for sure. Two perfectly cooked bone-in ribeyes later, served at the bar by Jeremy who also knows how to make a delicious old fashioned, and we had decided this would be a regular spot for us. We live in Rochester, used to go to the Scotch & Sirloin monthly before they closed several years ago. We enjoy the rustic look and the food & service were always outstanding! We were seeing the lights on the lake and decided to try the Syracuse Scotch & Sirloin after Christmas and our family of 3 ordered steaks. We waited about 15 minutes for our server to come over to greet us after we were seated. Dinner was decent and the service through dinner was good. We preferred the Rochester location (when they were open) pre Covid when they used to have a nice salad bar and also had onion rings on the menu. They really need to bring those items back as the dressings and rings were home made. It also took about 15 minutes for some other server to notice out app and salad plates were still on the table. Next time we get a steak in Syracuse it will be Daniella's! We like Black & Blue in Rochester much better as the food, ambience and service are a full level up and it actually costs a lil less. read more

This was our first visit to Scotch 'N Sirloin. We will be back!! It did not disappoint! The service was exceptional. The menu has plenty of different choices . We had filet mignon. It was cooked to perfection to our specific preferences. The sides were delicious. We chose French Silk Pie for dessert. It melted in our mouths. The staff was welcoming, accommodating, attentive without being intrusive, and knowledgeable regarding any questions we had about the menu. Was excited to go here. Although staff were pleasant, service was extremely slow. Food was meh. My sirloin tips and mash potato were reminiscent of a hospital meal. No bread or accompaniments. Drinks were not refilled. This establishment has lost its spark. read more

Absolutely phenomenal! Truthfully, it was a flawless dinner for us. It has been years since my wife and I left a restaurant as satisfied as we were with dinner last night! We are not the type to leave public reviews, negative or positive, but felt compelled to create an account to express appreciation for the experience and share with others around town who are looking for an inviting place to eat well prepared, real, honest food. We arrived early for our reservation, having requested a more secluded section. Tom took us back early, opened a closed section of the dining room for us, and set great standards for the service we should expect. As described, service is in a team fashion, of which we interacted with three different team members. Each was polite, pleasant, and knowledgeable, offering opinions when asked for and accommodating requests as asked for. Each of the team were engaged enough for a laugh, without making themselves the point or guests of our dinner. We started with drinks, a great selection of whiskeys, scotches, and bourbons, with options to both indulge or enjoy without much guilt. My wife had a sirloin, myself the filet. Both steaks prepared exactly to temperature, properly tender and well but not overly seasoned. For the sake of options, we ordered the Thai chili calamari, the poutine, as well as a house salad and French onion soup. Not a thing was less than exceptional. The calamari was fresh, with excellent texture and not overly sauced but with plenty of flavor. The poutine remained crispy from the hand cut fries and layered with flavor from the steak, gravy, and mozzerella without being overly salty. The salad was crisp and fresh, with a great blue cheese dressing served on a chilled plate. The French onion soup was bright with onion but well developed in color and depth of flavor with exceptionally stringy but not overly sharp gruyere. The baked potato... the best I've had in memory, period. To cap the evening, Tom circled back around, not knowing that this was our first time visiting, to say hello, and inquire how dinner had gone. Pleasantries exchanged and a little history imparted, we left happier than we have at restaurants at double the cost both at home and in major metros. We are far from food critics and do not consider ourselves foodies, but we know enough to know good food prepared by people who have concern and passion for what they prepare. Ok, ok, I'm easy grader!! Guilty! The Scotch is receiving these stars for the enttirety of the experience and because we really wanted to dine near a fireplace. Mission accomplished. The lounge side of S/S has an impressive circular fireplace and an intimate if not historic inn-feeling vibe. From the exposed wood and smoky smell to peanuts on the floor, you'll feel like you're in a historic building vs a windowless one near a strip mall. Overrated and overpriced. Their bistro/bar area has a nice ambiance but their regular restaurant area has harsh lighting and provides towels instead of napkins. The food was borderline bad. My husband said that his steak was horrible. They burned a crust onto it. I had the vegetarian lasagna that had too much cheese on it. read more

Very cozy setting, we love the real big fireplace, you can seat and eat around the fireplace, it is lovely during a stormy cold evening. The Escargot and the Prime Rib are the best of the area, really going back, the service was welcoming and friendly. read more
