We got ours grilled (not a fan of raw), and the sauce was just a party in our mouths! My goodness! Probably my favorite grilled oysters to date, or top 2 for sure! Not only were they delicious, but the presentation was EVERYTHING! They were served on a lifted tray and assorted beautifully. Picture perfect! In addition to the oysters, I got some shrimp tacos, brussels sprouts, and she got a shrimp quesadilla. It appears we also got a clam chowder or potato soup, I can't make out which. All our food was delicious! The service was great, and the ambiance was very social/lively. I've passed by Rappahannock for years, thinking it was some expensive oyster place (I'm not an oyster enjoyer). Walking by, we saw that they had other types of food, including a burger, tuna melt, fried chicken sandwich, loco moco, steak frites, etc. Also, we lucked out when we sat down a few minutes before their happy hour ended at 6 PM. We grabbed a beer, a $10 cocktail, $5 fries, and $3.25 oysters (that were said to be fresh). I got tipsy off the cocktail, so I don't think they were skimping on the alcohol like you might suspect during happy hour. The main dishes were also very good. They were well made with high-quality ingredients, with a good amount of food that doesn't leave you hungry. The servers were also rather friendly and attentive, three of them checking on us and clearing up plates every so often. It's not a place where they try to cut costs with thin ingredients. You might think the jambalaya would have had 3.5 pieces of shrimp, but there were plenty of sausages, shrimp, and chicken (she couldn't finish even with my help). You pay for the quality, and you'll enjoy it. The decor and ambiance were also very enjoyable. If you choose to sit on the patio, you'll feel as if you're transported to a cute boutique cafe in Yountville, surrounded by sunbeams and birds screaming at you. This place tends to be packed during lunch and less so during early dinnertime. If you can, try to swing by before 6 for the happy hour, perhaps after doing some errands or shopping at the Row. Parking is, as usual, free for 2 hours at the garage, but Rappahannock will validate if you go over 2 hours. We'll be back to try their other items. read more

My sister found this place I'm guessing through yelp too. We wanted to eat the oysters at first but it's like $4.50 a piece unless you get their tower but the prices are like $60 and up. So we didn't get to eat it lol. Yes it's pricey . Very nice inside and outside ohhhh and when you find the place it's sitting on a corner . There's a bunch of building structures . We came around from the back and it looks iffy because it's next to a transportation place or factory but follow the road to the right and the restaurant on the left. We ordered 12 Rappahannocks since we prefer sweet to briny, but were given a flight of 3 types of oysters instead. Then, our crab cake order was completely missed by kitchen staff, but the rest of the food was so underwhelming, we ended up asking to cancel it. OYSTER FLIGHT: 3/5. The oysters were fresh, but the quality of the shuck was not great, the oyster was still attached to the shell, pieces of shell flaked into the meat, and the meat was damaged in some of the oysters. CRUDO DU JOUR: 1/5. The salmon was fishy. Edible for the rest of my party, but I couldn't take a second bite. RAPP FRIES [+TRUFFLE AND PARM]: 2/5. Fries were not hot, nor were they crispy. The service is quick and friendly, and I like the location. The food is kind of a miss, not terrible, but underwhelming enough that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I got the mussels pasta special, which had a mustard saffron cream sauce and was delicious! However, several of my mussels had no meat in them (and were not otherwise found in the dish) and one mussel was actually fully closed. At one point I took a bite of pasta and bit into a small piece of shell. Quality control is way down. My friend ordered the shrimp tacos, which were tiny but otherwise fine. Rappahannock scores points for sporting a fun, casual and modern vibe, comfy surroundings, and a staff that's both friendly and fleet, bringing out drinks and food courses with speed and confidence. But -- BUT -- while the menu boasts quite a few things with descriptions that make deciding tough, almost every item was ultimately disappointing. Grilled oysters featured a very flavorful Cajun butter sauce that packed some heat and paired very well with the grilled country bread accompaniment -- yet the oysters themselves were teeny tiny; and though tasty, these were mere morsels, making the appetizer seem like a bread and sauce concept rather than an oyster dish. I ordered the Seafood Gumbo for my entree, having been advised by our server that it was very flavorful with a good deal of spice. Further, the menu described the dish as made with a proper roux, but it was really I who rued the day. Clocking in at a ridiculous $40, the dish was a massively overpriced disappointment. 3 meaty jumbo shrimp were appreciated, but the rest of the seafood (clams, mussels, oysters and just a dab of a fish that may have been salmon) were again teensy weensy. If made with a proper roux, the soup would have been a thick stew, but was in reality a thin broth, like really watery, with no real depth of flavor or any true spice... this broth was nothing you'd want to eat once the meager portion of shellfish was finished. My wife ordered the Steak Frites, which was the best thing we had (and $8 cheaper than the watery gumbo). The steak was a nice flank cut, cooked to a proper medium rare and topped with a chimichurri sauce that, interestingly, had a strong presence of ginger, making it more Asian-tasting than Argentinian. In this case, the twist was a welcome surprise, and the steak entree was a solid win. But, for a place that's meant to be primarily a seafood spot, their seafood was seriously wanting, making the prices seem seriously unjustified. read more

Ordered the seafood tower to split - had one oyster that tasted bad, as in, I'm a little worried I ate it, the lobster salad was over-seasoned with old bay, lacked nuance and flavor (other than old bay) and the salmon in the salmon crudo also worried me /tasted old/foul. The beet burrata salad was mediocre with the beets tasting like they've been in the root pantry too long. This is the best, most generous lobster roll I've had in LA. There were two whole claws on this!! Everywhere else in LA boasts a lobster roll and they stuff it with langostino or slap half a claw on it and call it a day. This is THE ROLL if you're looking for a Maine fix. Stumbled into Rappahannock Oyster Bar while walking around ROW DTLA with my girlfriend and our dog. We weren't sure what we were craving, but this place ended up being the perfect choice. Honestly shocked I hadn't heard of it sooner because everything we ordered was so good. We started with the fried oysters (not on the menu, just ask!). These were insane. Super crispy, perfectly breaded, and they came with this smoky thousand island-style sauce that tasted like a BBQ/chick-fil-a mashup in the best way. The baked oysters with Cajun butter were next-level. The butter was rich, flavorful, and addictingggg. Could've easily ordered another round and called it a day. Pair that with a michelada and you've got the ideal girl lunch. We also tried the lobster roll (hot) buttery, soft bread and perfectly cooked lobster. Really well done. Probably one of the better lobster rolls I've had in LA. Last up was the chilaquiles with grilled chicken. we were full by then, but still managed to eat half. The green sauce was bright and flavorful, and the chips held up really well. Definitely felt like a solid brunch-y dish. Also, the micheladas were fire. Not too heavy, super refreshing. Rappahannock is one of my favorite places to go in LA. I used to always go right after my haircut a couple stores down. The Rapp Burger is a must try. It's the best burger I've had in LA by far. The ceviche is also really good with big chunks of shrimp inside. The baked oysters are also really good and that's coming from a guy that doesn't like oysters too much. I always go around lunch time on the weekends and it's never too busy. It's located right at the Row in DTLA with a lot of fun stores to walk around after eating. The gumbo had a good amount of amount of seafood but it felt very watery. Felt like they didn't give it enough time for the water to get absorbed into the rice and it watered down the overall flavor and didn't feel like there was a roux. While service was good, the food itself was not really something where you feel it was worth the price. I've been wanting to come here for a few years now and finally got the chance after an event at The Row. Came here on a busy Saturday evening with some friends and was immediately seated outside on the patio, which had heaters going. I can't speak too much on the inside, but the ambiance outside was super cute with lights and the background view of The Row. Got the steak aguachile as my main and shared truffle fries with the table. The fries were amazing and the steak aguachile was delightful! It definitely had a good kick and the flavors were magnificent. While it was a main dish, I was very surprised at how large the portion was! Definitely something you could split with another person or two. My only gripe was that it was mostly cucumbers and onions atop the steak. Made it flavorful and very refreshing, but the amount of cucumbers and onions was a bit overwhelming -- could definitely just used about half. Still, it was super tasty and just what I needed! Service was excellent as the staff regularly checked up on our table but wasn't overly hovering or rushing. Our server (whose name escapes me) was wonderful and friendly. Parking was super easy at The Row parking garage and the restaurant validates. Definitely want to come back and try their seafood, especially their oysters. I thought it might've just been one of the tacos, but all of them lacked the main ingredient: oysters! Also paired with your super average shoestring fries. - Sausage and clams - 5/10: pasta was chewy, flavors were super flat, and there's barely enough sausage in this plate (tiny, bacon-bit size) that really shouldn't merit putting it in the name of the dish.
