We were on our way home from Liberty, NC and my wife did some searching for a place to grab something to eat. She suggested either Rascals or another place we have already visited and liked. I told her, let's try something new to us. Rascals gets very good reviews and some of our Elite friends had good experiences here so we were excited to try. Arriving a bit before 4pm we had the place to ourselves and the young ladies working were still busy writing the dinner specials on the chalkboard. We were greeted and had a seat at the bar. We were provided menus and our drink orders were taken. The interior is cozy and comfortable and the menu looks delicious. Our server went over the specials with us and we asked her to share some of her favorite items. Ultimately, I decided on the meatloaf sandwich with the Rascals sauce on the side and my wife chose the grilled chicken salad and at the recommendation of our server she chose the balsamic vinaigrette. We enjoyed talking about our day while our food was being prepared. Our food arrived in a timely manner and looked absolutely delicious My wife eats a lot of salads and she commented the presentation and size of the salad along with the ingredients was a top contender. She enjoyed each and every bite and was grateful to the server for the recommendation. My meatloaf sandwich was juicy and tender with a sourdough crusty bread and delicious fries. I didn't care for the Rascals sauce, my guess is a bit of horseradish is used in preparing and since I am not a fan of horseradish, I stuck to ketchup. We came to Rascals for brunch, and I was a bit surprised at how busy they were, so definitely recommend reservations if possible. Upon being seated, we learned that that there were some items no longer available, due to the supply, for example the avocado toast. While disappointed, it was good to see that they tried to avoid food waste and buy fresh ingredients and serve what is available. The prices were extremely reasonable, especially given the portions provided. We placed our order, and I have to say the thing that stood out was the service. Given how crowded and busy it was, there were essentially two primary servers that I could tell, and they were very responsive. Given the size of the restaurant, it's probably reasonably staffed, but still there was definitely a large party of 6 in one table, so even though the restaurant is modest in tables, it was crowded. Regarding the food, I thought it was good, for the price, but nothing special. I got the eggs and biscuit which was good, but fairly basic. We stopped by Rascals Tavern this weekend after some drinks at Bull City Cider down the road and it was the perfect way to end the night! We arrived about 7/715 that evening and were seated right away. To start we got some of the Buffalo Chicken Nachos for the table and holy smokes were these good! The flavor on these was phenomenal from the queso to the sauced fried chicken chunks to the freshly fried, very large tortilla chips! These did not disappoint. I actually liked the Buffalo chicken so much that I got the Buffalo chicken sandwich as well! Perfectly crispy and sauced and topped with some dang good pickles, all the flavor tied together so well that this chicken sandwich was one of the best I have had in a while! Just a wonderful discovery and find. Amazing when if comes to staff, atmosphere, variety, and most importantly food taste and quality. We had the devils on horseback and I cannot recommend this enough. We also had the pigs in a blanket which were bursting with flavor. The shrimp were so big and well cooked. I have been here before at night and enjoyed it then, too, but this review is specifically about their brunch. We made reservations for 10:45 on Saturday morning. It wasn't packed out or anything, and the bar was empty, but I guess it's best to make reservations, just in case as it's pretty small inside and I can see how it would pack out. The place itself is really cute and cozy, and I love the decor. Our waitress was super friendly and service was good. We started with a Spicy Bloody Mary and Mimosa - both good! Nothing spectacular but for the price, they were good. Speaking of prices, their food is probably a little more expensive than other places, especially if you order extras. I ordered the breakfast burrito, add ground beef (they were out of pork). It was extremely tasty! I love the queso poured over top. I also ordered a side of breakfast potatoes, which were surprisingly good. I say surprisingly, because sometimes potatoes can be too done or not seasoned enough, but these were perfect! My meal and drink after tip was $34, definitely a tad more than what I may normally spend on breakfast or brunch in Greensboro (but not much!). My friend ordered the pancakes and she liked those. One of the worst dining experiences I've had EVER. A group of out of town family members wanted burgers -Hops had too long of a wait so I suggested Rascals Tavern-even though I had not been previously. Based on reviews here I thought it would be a good option. It all started out great when I called to see if they could accommodate eight people I was told not a problem as long as we didn't mind sitting at a high top. I agreed to the high top and we showed up about six minutes later. Initially walking in the wait person was very friendly and seated us right away. She quickly took orders for drinks That was about the best thing that happened all night. A second wait person approached our table and was very friendly as well. We ordered our food, waited quite some time and slowly, but surely the food started to come out except for one person's order. The person whose food did not come out, had ordered a chicken wrap. The rest of us began to try and eat our food slowly and wait for hers to come out of the kitchen. As we did this, we observed tables of guests who had arrived after us receiving their food. We called our waitress over and inquired as to where her food was, and was told that it was on its way out about 10 to 15 minutes later her food finally came out, needless to say the rest of us were finished with our meal. I got up from the table and went over to the bar to ask one of the waitresses if they were going to remove her meal from our check since she had waited Way too long to get her food. I was told oh yes, we're removing it from the bill. When the bill arrived, they had removed half the cost of the chicken wrap. My brother-in-law who was paying the ticket that Knight got up, went to the bar and inquired with the waitress as to why they had not removed the entire cost of that one dish. She couldn't answer so he asked to see an owner or a manager. Someone from the kitchen came out and said she was the owner. He explained the situation to her and she gave him the runaround about how she had equipment malfunctions that evening blah blah blah. She did finally remove the one chicken wrap from our ticket. When they brought him the new ticket, he saw that they had charged a 20% tip on our bill. Once again he called her out and asked to have it removed so that he could tip what he felt appropriate which at this point was zero. Not only was just a bad experience for all of us. I was highly embarrassed to bring a group of out of towners to a local establishment and be so disappointed in the service. The quality of the food was not worth the hassle. I must say I am baffled as to how it wasn't already offered to us that the entire meal will be taken off, a round a free drinks. anything! We were treated as if we were the ones in the wrong. There's plenty of restaurants in Greensboro. Rascals Tavern will be one establishment that we will avoid as well as tell everyone about our bad experience. So disappointing! read more

This place is excellent! I went here for a quick bite with my husband one night. They had a special with scallops and brussel sprouts. My husband loves scallops and hates brussel sprouts. Believe it or not, he ate every bit of the food. The chef has amazing skills and is always very inventive and unique. The cuban sandwich is prepared perfectly and the mac and cheese creamy and full of flavor. I have been on separate occasions and have never had a complaint. Their brunch is delicious with bottomless mimosas! There's always a special twist on their French toast whether it's blueberries or whip cream and chocolate. My husband, brother, sister in law, and I brunched at Rascals over the weekend and I had no idea it was going to be as good as it was. I've seen a lot of hype around it so we decided to give it a try and so glad we did. The food was cooked to absolute perfection. My husband ordered the ribeye hash and his steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked to the correct temperature that was requested. I had the brunch burger and it was also seasoned nicely and cooked to the temperature that was requested. You wouldn't think a burger is hard to mess up but trust me they are and this wasn't one of them. The grits I had with my burger were also the best grits I've ever had. They were creamy and cheesy which is so different than anything I've had anywhere else (I think most grits are cooked with water but these were clearly looked in some kind of heavy cream). I tried my brothers biscuit and gravy and the biscuit was HUGE and gravy was spot on when it comes to seasoning (this place really has their seasoning on point). I also had a bite of my sister in laws French toast and it's a dish I would order on my next visit because it was so good. It had so much delicious corned beef, I asked the waitress for an extra piece of bread to take with me so I could make a sandwich at home. In all, that one meal fed me 3 times. I've been here now twice on vacation, and let me promise everyone, I'll be back again! The inside is nice and clean with a warm atmosphere. The food you can tell is made from scratch, just like they advertise. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and personable. This time I got something I normally wouldn't, but got the New York strip hash breakfast. This was ABSOLUTELY made with love and care from a chef that actually knows how to cook and season food, THANK YOU. Everything from the steak, cooked perfectly medium rare, to the potatoes to the caramelized onions and peppers was nothing short of A+. I come down to visit family about twice a year, and this is now a tradition. I do warn everyone though, their portions a very very generous (not a bad thing). I have been to Rascals Tavern several times and I have enjoyed it each visit. The standard menu has always been delicious and the atmosphere and staff have always been great. This restaurant is a small, intimate setting. I would highly recommend reserving a table ahead of time due to limited seating and there is not much room to stand and wait. They do have some outdoor seating as well (I haven't been seated in the outdoor seating myself yet). As for the food I have had the Spicy Fish Tacos (enough to have as a meal but listed as an app), The Squawk, and The Finley Burger as well as ordering off of the daily special menu. My most recent visit I ordered from a Latin-Thai Fusion menu which I really enjoyed. You can tell the chef had fun creating these dishes and the execution was delicious. There's a modern jukebox and dart board and the walls are covered in various alcohol brand signs. I got The New Yorker sandwich (Capicola, mortadella, salami, oil & vinegar, shredded lettuce, hot peppers, oregano and smoked gouda) but as a wrap. I appreciated they offer a less bread option. The sandwich was good, but lacked a wow factor. Included meats were flavorful and the hot peppers were definitely hot. I like spicy, but I even had to take a few out. Got a side salad with it, pretty standard. It did come with a lot of goat cheese and some spices on top, so that was a plus. My husband got the Better than a Reuben (Corned beef & pastrami, house-made pickles, swiss cheese, mustard served on whole grain bread). I did get to have a bite and one of his fried avocados (his side choice) and thought they were pretty tasty and liked the included sauce that came with them. My niece ordered the Gate City Burger (Beef, Chipotle aioli, bacon, fried onions, fried egg, Lettuce & tomato, Pepper Jack cheese). The burger was the good kind of messy and she complemented the bun (I think it was made in house). That's what I call fun on a bun. Super tender and flavorful. The fish tacos are extraordinary as well I'm not sure if the flour tortillas were handmade in the restaurant but they tasted like it. Will definitely have to come back here to try the poutine fries that have a healthy dose of jalapenos on them. read more

I've been to Rascals Tavern for lunch twice, both times on Saturday. They have done a nice job making a small space a cozy tavern. The food is excellent, definitely not to be confused with pub grub. Today's visit was the first day they offered brunch on Saturday. I was disappointed that their regular lunch menu was not available, but the awesome Breakfast Burrito made me glad I tried it. $5 Bloody Mary's are available during brunch as well. Great food, Casual atmosphere, and friendly service; I'm looking forward to getting over here for dinner. read more
