The food here is delicious. We got the potato cakes, which were spot on and pretty impressive. We also got the cordon bleu and the pork sandwich. We were incredibly happy with our meal. So why the two star rating? The price and the service. $14 for a beer in Elkridge? Unreasonable. And up-charge to add a bun to the Pork for $3.50? That's the most expensive bun I've ever seen! Our total bill for two people was $101.01 before tip. Our server was also very unhappy to be there and we definitely felt it. Bummer because we liked the food, but we will find a different spot next time. This is a pass. read more

The schnitzel was well cooked and the sauce was very tasty - comparable to some I've had in Germany. The red cabbage was excellent, sweet and tender. The spaetzle were quite good too. The beer selection wasn't big, but it was good - no gripes there. The service was excellent - with the waitress showing up just often enough. The only minor downside was that when it got busy, the restaurant is a bit loud. But we could still communicate without much trouble, so it wasn't a big problem. Went to try this new spot and was not disappointed! The food was excellent, it's small plates which is fun because you can try and share several things. Honestly my favorite was the curry ketchup! The cocktails were delightful, we had several different ones between the four of us! Service was a little slow, but it's new and was crowded and would not deter me from going back! Went to dinner with a group of friends. The food was terrific (those potato pancakes!!) and the beer and wine was good. Our waitress suggested the platter for all that included a pretzel, 4 meats, and potatoes and it was perfect. My only real concern was that we were asked to leave (had been sitting a while catching up) because there was a "reservation." We moved to the and no one ever arrived before the end of the night. I had dinner here recently with a group of friends. They had live music playing outside in the patio area. We sat inside due to the pollen. The have Americanized German cuisine. I had the bratwurst on the pretzel roll which was good. Several of my friends had different types of schnitzel. Everyone liked their food. I had the German fries which were not crispy and were served with ketchup. I suppose they we're attempting an American version of Pommes Fritz. Yes I know that's a French term but the German's use the same one. It was American but not great. Yes I have had German food in Germany, many times. Their hot potato salad was good as was their red cabbage. The service was superb! High five to the wait staff, for doing a super job with our large group. One thing I didn't like was the noise. It was so loud that we could barely hear each other. It's a small area and they had music playing rather loudly and it was busy. I also didn't like the chairs, really uncomfortable after more than 30 minutes. If you want authentic German food this is not for you. If your good with good food, excellent service and decent ambience then this is a good place. Go early, the parking lot is small and fills up rapidly and street parking isn't ideal. read more

So glad I finally got here! There are not enough good restaurants in Elkridge - this one is a real treat. Excellent food, beers, schnapps and service. I've been here twice and I think it's a great addition to Elkridge. The first time I went I sat at the bar with a friend and had a couple glasses of wine and tried the pretzel and potato pancakes. Then went back about a week later with my husband and my four year old son. We sat at a cozy booth. My husband & I shared the happy hour chicken schnitzel, wings and a pretzel and my son had the hot dog. And we liked all of it. They haven't been open very long so I think there's some things they could improve on, but I like it! I'm rooting for them. read more

A stylish German-style pub located in a large renovated house in old Elkridge. The food was delicious, if lacking in some authenticity (I chose to look past the Trader Joe's potato cakes (aka latkes) - they're good!) My friends and I had a delightful meal. The Schnitzels were excellent, and despite my fear, the various wursts were flavorful and not too heavy on the stomach. They serve very light German beer on tap, which actually helps tremendously with the Schnitzel and sausages combo. There may have been vegetables on the menu, but we had to give up something in favor of the hot pretzel and beer cheese! I'm looking forward to going back for Ocktoberfest. read more

Very good find. A small space that is in the basement of a building. We showed up without a reservation but the staff were accommodating and able to squeeze us in and just let us know when we would need to leave by! The food was good. Potato cakes, pretzels, mushroom sauce, and German potato salad were very good while the currywurst and schnitzel were alright. Staff shifted the review to 5 stars. Went here last year, late January 2020. Came away not impressed. Pretty expensive. Just got this impression the place thought a lot of itself and didn't really have its demographic in mind. Well, COVID took care of me goin there for the past year. It's restaurant week and we figured give it another try. They got a new chef and apparently it's quite good. Well, it is. Like really good. Still not cheap, but what you get is phenomenal. Our order consisted of pork schnitzel, eggplant schnitzel, falafel and Kasakreiner Wurst. All were perfect. Also got Potato Cakes, pretzel and the salad. The red cabbage and broccoli were very tasty. Broccoli a bit salty. But my beer solved that. I really wanted to like this place because I heard about it from friends and family. We got the schnitzel and it was deep fried and dry. We got the crab pretzel and could not eat it since it was cold and we asked to have it heated. Then it was tough to cut and terribly salty so we didn't eat it. Waitress asked why we didn't eat and we told her. She didn't attempt to comp it. The only two items we liked were the wine and strudel. We haven't had occasion to visit in person yet, but we've ordered online a number of times. The food, is stellar. Mind you this isn't German high cuisine, but the unbeatably satisfying schnitzel and wurst for which they are more commonly known. The crispy chicken schnitzel is a particular favorite on the menu; crispy, juicy, flavorful...all in a thin chicken cutlet. I'm from an Italian food background and I haven't tasted a chicken or veal cutlet as flavorful. The pretzel, served with clotted cheese is the perfect accompaniment to cold beer. On a residential street in Elkridge, 15 minutes from downtown Baltimore and close to BWI, the Rathskeller is a real find. Modern and comfortable basement and patio space, where I chose to eat outside. Basically a bar with a limited menu featuring schnitzel and wurst. The pork schnitzel was superb - crispy, thick and tasty - as were the sides of red cabbage and cheese spaetzel. Portions are large so I needed to pack half the meal to go. They gave me by far the best boxing of leftovers of any restaurant I have visited, with different shaped boxes for different dishes. Three words for you - Don't do it. The positives first - staff was gloved and masked, oh and there was a lovely, floral garden off to the side, of their building. Yep, those are the pluses. What did I get for my $83 (restaurant week for a party of three) plus two beverages and a side of cabbage slaw - overcooked, fried so hard, the meat actually curled upwards, for my barely edible pork schnitzel. My husband's grilled chicken sandwich - meat was dry and unpalatable. Pretzel, fat, chewy and served with a grainy, cheese fondue. We ended up chucking the schnitzel and chicken, when we got home. Fries were tasty, but oddly spiced and served with a curry-like ketchup. A side of cabbage/carrot slaw was ho hum. The best part of my meal was Rathskeller's rendition of spaetzle. Though I wasn't crazy about the addition of red onions to this homey mac&cheesy kinda pasta, it was the only highlight to this meal. Sad to say, there was absolutely no social distancing in this restaurant. There were four tabled-booths in a row, next to one another, with seat backs between them (customers sitting back to back in booths) - yet no distancing. I actually hadn't noticed this, until the very end of my meal. Also, there was another couple sitting at a table, with absolutely no distancing, nearly next to a larger table that served four or five guests. I did inquire about the lack of social distancing with a waitress, who replied; "We have blockage." read more

We walked into the restaurant starving and left beyond satisfied. Four of us split the wurst platter with broccoli and potato cakes and couldn't decide which of the five sausages was our favorite, they were all so good. That plus an extra side of fries, a big pretzel, and an Apple strudel was more than enough to satisfy.
