Back again on our way up to Sacramento and had to stop in for breakfast. The friendliness of the staff really stands out here. While we considered having grits with our breakfast, the allure of the fried rice hooked us. We had a couple of omelettes (an amazing array for a small place) but the fried rice was really the deal. It is not overly salty and has a great just made (or least just freshened up) quality. I would definitely come back just for the fried rice.

Despite its odd name, this old school diner has a solid breakfast. Located in downtown Rio Vista, it's a two room restaurant with booths on the right and tables on the left. Husband got chicken fried steak covered with gravy, said meat was tender and really enjoyed it and ate it all. I ordered chilaquiles with scrambled eggs and green sauce, which was delicious and filling. The chips were like Fritos without the extra salt, topped with queso cheese. Coffee was tasty and served in cute branded coffee cups. Decor included a ""stuffed" striped bass and stingray among photos of Marilyn Monroe. Service was pleasant but a little slow, no seconds on coffee until we asked, and table wasn't cleared when we arrived, so one star off. I would definitely come back if we were in the area again or coming back from the Delta.

Omelet #15 -- LOOK how well-stuffed it is.

This unpretentious, somewhat faded diner obviously has a core clientele of enthusiastic regulars. Service is really nice even if you're not one. Their approach to an omelet is my favorite ever: they treat the egg part like a taco shell, keeping it thin, neatly folded over so, so much filling! The result is the most generous "meat lovers" type omelet I've ever seen. And it includes both linguica and actual ham. Hashbrowns are well-intentioned. Biscuit is a really nice biscuit. Someone in the kitchen seems to take pride in making a fairly standard diner menu come out good. This is not a destination in itself, but if you're in the Rio Vista area, it's a very good bet for a casual sitdown spot.

Homemade Corn Beef Hash. Actual home made it was delicious.

Still enjoying the food. Service immediately upon entering. Stop by for a quick and sumptuous meal.

4 of us for lunch. Turkey sandwiches made with real turkey breast. Potato bacon cream soup is home made. Crispy diced chicken filet on an iceberg lettuce salad has chopped up tomato, bell pepper, hard boiled egg quarters and a sprinkling of fresh cheddar cheese. Last dish was huevos rancheros with refried beans and rice. Eater of that said "oooh, you can taste the pork lard, Yummy!" This food is not going to wow a sophisticated city diner. It's way too simple and unpretentious. Diner food just like what was served in the early 1960's. The dining rooms and furniture are old and beat to $#!+. Everything needs repainting and a thorough scrubbing. None the less if you arrive hungry there are plenty of items on the large & varied menu that will catch your fancy. Of course, this is cheap eats. The most expensive steak lunch is $17. Enjoy!

This is one of the best Omlets that I've had. Enchilada Omlet with Red Sauce. I don't like olives or sour cream, so I went without. Had it again today. There are so many choices. Tomorrow will be the Corned Beef Hash. Yum!

If you've ever driven through Rio Vista, you've probably heard of Foster's Bighorn (and if you…read morehaven't stopped in yet, you should.) Foster's Bighorn is a local peeps restaurant and bar. It houses a private collection of over 300 big game specimens from Africa and North America, making it a great place to see what big game hunting looked like in the 1930s. The moment you walk in, you're surrounded by world-class trophies covering the walls near the ceiling. It's unlike any other dining atmosphere around in the east bay. For me, this place is pure nostalgia. My dad used to bring me here once a year when he had business in Rio Vista. I remember being completely fascinated by all the trophies mounted on the walls. Large game hunting wasn't something my family participated in, but growing up in a farming family, animals raised for food were a normal part of life. Even so, the quality and quantity of the collection always left me in awe. Going back as an adult, I can say that feeling hasn't changed. The collection is still impressive. This visit, we kept it simple with drinks and appetizers. My friend ordered a margarita on the rocks, and I had a pale ale. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. The bar itself is a classic 65-foot bar that feels like it belongs in another era. For food, I had the Caesar salad, and we split the ten-inch pepperoni pizza. The pizza featured roni cups and felt like a solid, classic appetizer-style pizza . The side Caesar salad was a great portion with crisp lettuce, shaved Parmigiana, and crunchy croutons, simple and tasty. Foster's Bighorn offers a Chop House style menu for lunch and dinner, making it a great spot for a quick bite or a full sit down dinner. I'd absolutely go back: first for the nostalgia, second for the drinks, and third for the food. It's a one-of-a-kind place that feels like stepping into history while enjoying a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

However, to our shock, the cost of dinner was outrageously high. To our shock, we had one meal for each my hubby and I, no appetizers, and 2 soft drinks... nothing real fancy. It cost us way over $100 plus dollars. We both ordered some beef... 50% fat! That's a lot of fat (wasn't sirloin note filet minion)... not lean at all. If it was my first time going, I would just order an appetizer or an early light lunch... not a meal.

Here's what I loved during my visit: Food: * Honey Walnut Shrimp 5/5 - Crispy shrimp with a delicious mayonnaise-based glaze with a hint of orange. This was my favorite dish that we ordered! * General Chicken 5/5 - If you like something crispy and saucy with a slight kick, you'll love this! I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious this was! * Mongolian Beef 3.5/5 - I'm used to this dish being spicier, but whoever's sensitive to spice would enjoy this! * Egg rolls 4/5 - Came out hot and crispy with a side of sweet and sour sauce. The cabbage filling was nicely cooked down and almost creamy in texture. * Shrimp Chow Mein - 4/5 I'm not sure if it's because I got the last of the serving, but I wish there were more noodles than onions and bell peppers. Flavor was good, though! Ambiance - Clean, lots of seating, and has clean restrooms! Service - Our waitress was kind and helpful!
