On a long flight out, we look for a place with food and drinks. Craving tacos, we came in for a little bite and drink before our flight. We found ourselves at the between time between brunch and lunch and no tacos. We ordered a brisket bbq sandwich to split. It was pretty huge and sloppy. Overall just okay with a tasty barbecue sauce, the remedy. We ordered a couple beers, the ZwieBock Amber was great. Service was pretty good. Next up the Bloody Mary version, Ray's Red Eye. Every airport should have an excellent bloody mary, but this fell flat without a kick or heat. It was better once a little bbq sauce was added. This place was pretty handy, as it had the food and drinks. Not too bad, not the best ever. Just don't expect Texas down home BBQ and you'll be alright. read more

I was there for convenience, really, since my gate was 20 feet away. Sat at the bar, ordered a couple of brewskis. Since I had a bit of time, I thought I'd get an app. I was told by the bartender I need to go to the chuck wagon for that. So, I did. They had a few interesting things on their menu. An okay bar. Gets better when there's a live band usually around the late afternoon. What I like is they have Shiner Bock. If you haven't tried it, it's a good beer! Don't expect to be waited on specially when the place is packed with travelers. Best way is to find a seat. Then go to the bar for your drinks (priorities!). You can keep an open tab if you're staying there for a while. Then go to either the Taco stand on the left of the stage or the hot dog stand on the right. They do serve more than those things such as pulled pork and burgers but that's what the signs say. If you really want to try something on the menu on your table then let the bartender know and that's much faster. Have an enjoyable time in this great airport! Minus 4 stars because they don't offer half the beers they have on the menu (which conveniently includes NO prices), it takes forever to order and in general just a sucky experience here all around. Every other review bitching about service here is dead on. At best, they're inattentive, at worst, straight up rude. It seems to be a complete free for all here - servers are standing around talking/texting/doing everything BUT working. That means that people get frustrated and order drinks at the bar. Which means the single bartender is completely in the weeds trying to service a 3-deep bar while empty glasses pile up like skyscrapers. Understandably, when/if you do get an order taken they're probably not going to be super nice. All the while, tables remain unbussed and the "servers" are still jackassing around. Anyway, the main reason to hang out here is live music in the afternoons which is actually really cool. There's a large stage and the band playing when I was here was good. Plus, there is a Salt Lick taco stand which is absolutely good for airport food. Bottom line - don't expect much in the way of service. read more

Ray Benson's roadhouse is conveniently located right around gate 10 in the Austin-Bergstrom airport, which worked out perfectly for me as I had an hour to kill for a plane that would be departing from; you guessed it, gate 10. So, with some time to kill and not having much else to do, I swung into Ray Benson's, grabbed a cold beer and some nachos. The bartender was seemingly familiar with many of the other patrons, I was left wondering if people actually commute by air a lot in Texas. In any case, the food came out jiffy fast, and everything was perfect. I had them toss some jalapenos on the nachos and they may have hit it a little too hard, but overall, it was a good mix of chili, cheese, chips and jalapenos - and went perfectly with my beer - so good in fact, I had myself another. Prices were pretty good considering it was located in an airport so I would definitely hit it again as they had a lot of interesting looking stuff there to eat. Try it! read more

After waiting an inaordinate amount of time to find a wait person, someone finally saw us sitting and waiting. I asked for a pulled pork sandwich and at 3pm I was told that food is no longer being served. So why stay. Hard to believe that a restaurant open in an airport doesn't serve food mid-afternoon. We trundled down to the Saxon Pub. Very limited food, and the burger and fries were extremely greasy and rubbery. The live music was sad. Very average if not below average place to eat at the airport. I had the brisket sandwich which consisted of very well done brisket bits with Barbeque sauce on a very fluffy bun for $12.49. Very forgettable and a exceedingly poor representation of Texas BBQ brisket. Service was good. read more

The least motivated staff you'll encounter. They'll literally stand at the bar watching customers wait for service. As with other food spots in AUS, having one unmotivated food vendor isn't working for the customers. Either these guys are nearing the end of their contract, or they've made a side deal that locks them in regardless of service. read more

Nearly impossible to get a drink. Hubby stood at the bar for more than ten mins trying to get served while getting systematically ignored. Others got served ... but no one looked happy. Meantime the bartender appeared to be so scattered - she must have gone to and from each side of the bar 2 times empty handed for each transaction. The bartender told multiple people that he "was not a dog" when they tried to flag him down to get a drink. Normally, a good bartender would have scanned the bar and noticed the new from the old patrons, but not this epic failure of a bar keep. He just focused in on the service bar and never looked back. Hey guy, you're in an airport bar during the holidays... it's going to be busy and you have to work the bar. Stuck in Austin Bergstrom? This is a great spot to kill off some time with beer/wine/cocktails, a quick bite, sports on the flat screen, and live music! Also agree with others calling this place overpriced but it's airport food...not sure what you're expecting. Front of the house was attentive. My waitress was busting her you know what. Live music in an airport? How cool! Only in Austin. Had a couple hours to kill before my flight, so shared a table with another traveler, got some tacos from the Salt Lick in this little "compound," (try the Cabo Brisket one) and enjoyed a couple margaritas (the "Ultimate Margarita" w/ Patron, and the "Route 66 Margarita" w/ Herradura) - liked the second one better. But maybe that's because it was the second one. A very unique experience - a circular bar, a stage w/ live music on one side; lots of tables, and around it a "Chuck Wagon" stand w/ hot dogs, brisket sandwiches, breakfast tacos and nachos, an "Austin Java" coffee bar, and Salt Lick taco stand. A great way to pass some time while waiting for your flight. read more

i would give it zero stars if i could. First, i ordered the trio plate, that came with chicken, steak and a skewer of shrimp. It was supposed to come with a salid, and i ordered it, and noticed on the receipt i was charged extra for it. The ceaser salid had so much dressing and cheese on it, it was actualy overwhleming to me. I am one that likes cheese, so for me to be unable to finish it says something. The meal came and the chicken was flat and dry, the steak was overcooked and, although it had visable seasoing on it, had no flavor. The worst part was the bacon wrapped shrink skewer. The first peice i ate and thought it was a bit mushy, and as i took a bite out of the second i realized it was mostly raw. The outside was cooked, but due to their being vegitables wrapped to the inside of the shrimp and covered by bacon, the shrimp stayed raw. Even the bacon wasnt fully cooked. I showed the server, who said it did look raw, and a "manager" came over and said, yes it wasnt cooked correctly, and asked me if i wanted them to fire another skewer for me. I said no, i couldnt possibly eat another, im feeling a bit sick now just from the thought of what i ate, and wanted my bill. Now here is where it gets worse. I wasnt asking for my bill to be free, i would have been fine if he had said he was sorry and would address the cooks, but he said instead "i will take the shrimp portion off of your bill". Gee, thanks. Of course, what he did do was charge me half price for the meal, half price for the ceaser salid (that was supposed to come with the meal), and half price for the mac and cheese side. And poof, that was the last i saw of anyone. I had to flag someone down to take my payment. Crazy thing is i told the guy at the hotel about my experience and even he said he doesnt recomend anyone going here. Wish i had asked! read more

The guy helping was nicer, but not very competent. First time in a very long time that I have not tipped anything. The place was a mess. Sat down in puddle of water only to be told by waiter I should have checked first. I expressed my feelings and he continued to treat me like it was all my fault. Finally, I told him to F off and was walking out when he threatens to call TSA on the white phone and have me miss my flight. At that point, I said I shouldn't have said what I did and thought we were done. I walked across the way to gate 10 and looked back. He then comes over and starts the threats again. I stated a second time that I shouldn't have told him to F off, but that wasn't good enough. He wanted an apology or else he would call TSA. I apologized and he left. All the reviews are accurate. This bar is terrible. I wish someone with some hospitality would buy this place. Not a good representation of ATX at all. Rude bartenders that don't care about taking care of the guest or offering that TX hospitality. Gave them many chances...don't go.
