I was there for convenience, really, since my gate was 20 feet away. Sat at the bar, ordered a couple of brewskis. Since I had a bit of time, I thought I'd get an app. I was told by the bartender I need to go to the chuck wagon for that. So, I did. They had a few interesting things on their menu. Sadly, they ONLY had nachos to serve - which is what I didn't want. Booooo.... Ended up with a bag of Doritos. I'd prolly come back only for convenience. Otherwise... Nah.

An okay bar. Gets better when there's a live band usually around the late afternoon. What I like is they have Shiner Bock. If you haven't tried it, it's a good beer! Don't expect to be waited on specially when the place is packed with travelers. Best way is to find a seat. Then go to the bar for your drinks (priorities!). You can keep an open tab if you're staying there for a while. Then go to either the Taco stand on the left of the stage or the hot dog stand on the right. They do serve more than those things such as pulled pork and burgers but that's what the signs say. If you really want to try something on the menu on your table then let the bartender know and that's much faster. Have an enjoyable time in this great airport! By the way, if you're an ice cream junkie like me, there's an Amy's ice cream nearby!

    Tracie Lynn and band...terrific!

Delayed in Austin and pleasantly surprised to see that the Roadhouse had a live country band playing and plenty of Ziegen Bock on tap...a great way to kill the time. Joe is a really good bartender...remembered every patron's first name.. Best airport venue I've ever seen.

I give three stars as a compromise to these two competing feelings: OMGosh I had a great time sitting here, first to do some schoolwork while listening to a large live band play, then chatting with some friendly strangers waiting for a delayed flight who were buying drinks. YUCK too crowded, where's the server, why isn't there any vegetarian food in this overpriced trainwreck?

Technically, I'd give this a 4.5/5 for the elevated airport prices, but you're sort of a captive audience and I have to give credit to AUS for at least including local brands, even when they some are tweaked a little bit to be included. (I'm looking at you, 24 Diner's less-anchovy-y airport caesars.) There's not really anything to change about beer, thank goodness. This stand has Austin Beerworks' beer, which is some damn good beer. I wish ABW had a distribution deal in the northeast so I could continue drinking it at my new house. Service at the Beerdrop is usually friendly and just the right amount of attentive--friendly if you're bored, hands-off if you've got a laptop out. One bartender on a slow day even checked on my order at the other food hall counter for me, which was rad. There's a full bar with non-beer options, too, although I've only ever been there for the beer. It can get a little loud and crowded if the wider food hall's busy, but unless you're hitting at peak food o'clock, it's pretty laid-back in there.

I ordered a 14-ounce serving of Fire Eagle IPA (for $11.49)--which is very good. The bartender suggested to instead order the 20-ounce serving for $1.50 more ($0.65 per ounce rather than $0.82). However, I was trying to spare some room in my stomach for a subsequent crawl to Hippies & Hops (featuring local beers from Live Oak Brewing). I lucked out on the timing, to watch an NFL playoff game during my visit here. It was surprising that other patrons at the bar were mostly drinking beers other than the local beers that this bar showcases; or alcoholic beverages other than beer. I like the easygoing atmosphere here, where it is easy to socialize with the bartenders and patrons.

Founded in 1997 by Chip McElroy, Live Oak was built with a simple idea "make beer for people who actually like the taste of beer." In 2015, Live Oak moved to their current location on a beautiful property along the Colorado River, opening a taproom and biergarten. One its unique features...it's off the beaten path of other breweries. Live Oak Brewing is north of the airport and backs to the Fast Park remote airport parking lot. At first glance it looks like it's a convergence of a fire station and deserted manufacturing plant. The grounds are impeccable...tall statuesque trees, lush green vegetation and an extensive outside biergarten. It feels like you are in a nature bubble. Interestingly, Live Oak Brewing has its own on site 18 hole disc golf course (different from traditional golf) located directly on the brewery's property. Live Oak Brewing's interior has the feel of a German Hofbräu...homey, spacious, and welcoming, with long communal tables that encourage conversation and human interaction. You can see directly into the brewing space, with large tanks and equipment. Also, board games are available if you choose to play. Live Oak is family friendly and dog friendly. In fact, Groot, the owner's dog, freely roams through the brewery drinking area. While I only had sips of beer (not a big beer drinker), my friends enjoyed their beers. Live Oak Brewery Company is a super fun place to hang out.

Arriving early to the terminal, I decided to grab dinner before my flight home. The setup is cafeteria-like. The service was friendly and humorous. I decided on getting the 2-meat platter: choice of two combinations like brisket, sausage, pulled pork, or turkey. All platters are served with homestyle potato salad, country coleslaw, a rolls, +beans. The sides were really good! The brisket was smokey and lean. I prefer the fatty kind as it stays juicier. But the sauce on it was good. The pulled pork was surprisingly good. I am usually not a pulled pork person. It was juicy, flavorful, and again had their bbq sauce on it. Definitely the food IS better at their Driftwood location. But, this was convenient. Overall, 3.5 stars.

Normally good food and Holiday Inn go together like squid goes with chocolate, but this place was one of the more pleasant surprises I ate at in Austin. We were watching some bands nearby and needed some food at 930pm. Looking on Yelp (what else would we use?), the only highly rated food places nearby were a few food trucks and a restaurant in the Holiday Inn. We wanted to sit down badly enough that we decided to risk disappointment and GI distress. Man were we glad we did! The good: the waitress, I think her name was Brittney, was very nice and welcoming. There weren't more than 2 other tables at that time of night, so she walked us through the menu. Everything was made on site including the ice cream. The restaurant itself is clean and open. There's a full bar. The menu has pretty good options for the vegetarian with us and for us carnivores as well. The sandwich I had was really good and the brownie waffle dessert with cookies and cream ice cream and hot fudge STILL HAUNTS MY DREAMS! The prices were reasonable, and the food was remarkably good. The bad: the reataurant is in Texas, and I'm in California. The mediocre: nothing Overall: This place would be my go to late might place if I lived anywhere nearby. It's probably best that I am not nearby because I would also weigh about 200 pounds more than I currently do because I would eat that dessert every day until I could no longer walk without assistance.
