I hired Anacapa Plumbing for a residential plumbing project at my property, and unfortunately my…read moreexperience was very disappointing in the areas of management, scheduling, communication, and billing. To start, the work was scheduled to begin on a Monday between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. I already was not thrilled with such a large arrival window, but I accepted it. What was not acceptable was that no one showed up and no one called. I rearranged my morning and ended up being late to my own job for no reason. There were also repeated communication failures during the project. At one point, I was told the water would be shut off on a Monday, so I had my renters make plans to be away so they would not be inconvenienced by having no water. Monday came and went, and the water was never shut off. Apparently their plans had changed, but no one communicated that to us. When they finally did shut the water off, it was handled in a way that created a completely unnecessary burden. On one occasion, the guest house was without water all day and overnight. On a different day, the main house was also without water all day and overnight. In my opinion, this was avoidable. I had already run the main line to both houses. They only needed to run piping from those lines to the water heaters. That work should have been staged so everything else was prepped first, with the final tie-ins done once the glue had cured, keeping the water interruption to maybe an hour or two. Instead, two families were significantly inconvenienced, and the attitude I got was that this was standard and no big deal. Another issue was professionalism on site. One of the workers was loudly yelling and swearing in the crawlspace, including repeated profanity. This was not a vacant construction site. This is a home where people live. I was grateful my wife and kids were not around to hear it. After the plumbing work was completed, I finished enclosing the relocated washer and dryer area by framing, insulating, and drywalling the space. When I finally hooked up the machines and ran a load of laundry, the room flooded because water backed up and poured out of the in-wall washing machine drain. I called Anacapa Plumbing, and since this happened just a couple of days after they finished the job, I expected a prompt and professional response. I was told someone would come that afternoon. No one came. Then I was told they would send someone the next day. A plumber eventually came while I was at work, stayed about an hour, and left without any communication. Hours later, I still had no idea whether the problem had been fixed or whether it was safe to use the washing machine. I had to call and leave a message to find out. Later I was told it was okay to use, followed by a $270 bill for that visit. The billing was another major issue. The original estimate was around $15,000. The final bill came in at about $20,000, plus the additional $270. That is roughly a 25% increase with no meaningful communication, warning, or explanation during the job. In fairness, I did add a small amount to the scope by having them run about 25 feet of hot and cold PEX with two shutoff valves, but I do not believe that justifies an extra $5,000. For context, I am a General Contractor and have been for 18 years. I often try out subcontractors on my own properties before using them on residential client projects. Anacapa Plumbing was one of several companies recommended to me locally. Based on this experience, I would not use them again, and I would not recommend them to others. P.S. He quoted me the cost to replace but didn't include labor. When we asked for a fixed fee for the whole job he took a while then quoted me $1,000 over the first bid that was a fixed fee from a reputable plumbing contractor. Given this high price we are going with the first bid. He then charged me $330.00 for the labor which he didn't initially tell us about. Being an architect we refer subs often to clients. We will not be referring Lewis Plumbing. I understand if there is a labor cost, but should have been told that initially. Update: The owner contacted us today & he apologized for the misunderstanding for charging us a labor bill for $330.00 and said he would refund my check. We really appreciate that he went the extra mile to make it fair. Next time we will ask what they charge to come out & take a look to fix the problem. I called Lewis Plumbing for a drainage issue in my kitchen sink. When the Lewis Plumbing technician…read moreIsaac came in, the water was passing through, just slowly. The sink was still usable. When he left. after 3 hours, snaking kitchen line, and then, the tub and the shower line (which was fine to begin with), the kitchen line was blocked completely. I payed $900, and the problem was not resolved but worsened. I now cannot use the kitchen sink (and dishwasher) and have major repairement project on my laps. The Lewis plumber seemes to not know what he was doing. He forgot the equipment (large drain cleaner) in my shower, when I call them to take this out of my house he returned to get it, and after he left I had to srew in the drain opening myself. They charge $165 per hour, and he charged me for 4 hours work while he was only there for little over 3 hours. He lied on the invoice claiming the kitchen drain was blocked from the beginning. Shame on you, Lewis Plumbing. It's the most overpriced plumbing company in my area, and I came to them because my HOA recommended it. Now reading the reviews I see many people had bad experiences with them. I wish I researched them before choosing this company. An update: the company manager called and offered to send a technician at no cost to try to correct the issue. A senior technician came in and fixed the problem within an hour. He also brought back the check I gave them, and issued a new invoice, for $390, which seems very fair. The technician was super nice, and clearly very experienced. The bottom line: the company clearly stands up to its reputation, and makes ammends if anything goes wrong. Frankly, I did not expect this, and am more than happy with the resolution of the situation.

Additionally, the drain flow restrictor was missing. I also discovered that the membrane was no longer functional, this could be from the RO being hooked up incorrectly. Additionally, the automatic shutoff valve was broken but that was likely unrelated. [Please see photo of water reading showing unacceptable levels coming from the RO--647 PPM!!]" For context, 50-150 ppm is considered the optimal TDS range for drinking water. So, we had been drinking gray water for months! Which explains the terrible taste, and why we kept getting sick. In fact, I was hospitalized with acute appendicitis and had to have an emergency appendectomy ($45,000 hospital bill). At the time they asked me if I'd traveled to any foreign countries and drank the water!!! I'm just sick about the entire thing. So, on top of my $45K hospital bill, we had Channel Plumbing's bill for $887.38 and then the new plumber's bill for $1113 to fix their mistakes. We contacted Channel Plumbing and shared the new plumber's findings as well as the photo of him testing the water from the RO faucet at 647 PPM, and they refused to do anything at all other than argue with us and then go dark. Their extreme negligence could have quite literally killed me.

There are two plumbers in town with the name Carroll. RJ Carroll and Sons, on Salsipuedes St. and…read moreCarroll Plumbing & Maintenance on De La Vina. They both use red trucks. Do not make the same mistake I did and call Carroll Plumbing & Maintenance. They did a lousy installation--very slanted tank (which will likely hold more residue and shorten its useful life), a gas hose that stuck out so far that it prevented use of lower cabinets, they didn't replace the cap and left a mess from their work. Plus, they damaged one of my cabinets, so that it was unusable. I sent an email with images laying out the lousy job and damage, suggesting that they should have done a great job after damaging my cabinet, asking them to return to resolve the installation issues. Note that I did not ask them to repair the cabinet. The office manager asked that I call, and when I did, she proceeded to blame my painters for the cabinet damage--painters who helped remove the cabinet and get the new not water heater in place, PRIOR to pointing out the cabinet damage. She suggested that I was lying when I clarified that the painters had not done the damage. She informed me that my custom Columbia cabinets from Hayward were "cheap" and that I should have replaced them anyway, so she should not take any responsibility for their damage, even though I had not asked them to pay for the repair. She also said they never wanted my business in the first place (apparently, they don't like Rheem hot water heaters, which I had to use as my failed unit was still under warranty), so I should pay them immediately, upon them fixing their poor installation. Wow!!! A bully, poor integrity, a total lack of professionalism and a really lousy work ethic with the installer.
