Disappointed. Other than pretty good service, I was underwhelmed. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere and boasts a big bar. It was decently packed when I arrived. For starters, I had the calamari, which was just okay. It didn't stand out and it was heavily fried. The chips with blue cheese were decent, but again nothing to rave about. Followed with a Caesar salad that was bland. For dinner, I chose the market fish, which was salmon. What in the world happened to it?! It came out crispy and burnt at the ends. I thought higher end restaurants knew to cook their fish at medium. This was well done and burnt in some places! How can a restaurant serve fish like that? It was so overdone and dry that I had two bites and left it. The sides of mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables also seemed pretty standard and not very flavorful. I decided on chocolate raspberry mouse for dessert. That was also a miss. The cake was incredibly dry, and made it not worth the calories. Found Ray's through Yelp. It actually exceeded my expectations. I had reservations....it was busy but not packed on a Saturday evening. I was seated promptly. The server (Justin) was a pro, helpful but not intrusive. Food came out quickly. Parmesan scallops on lobster risotto; creme brulee for dessert. The dish was excellent with a perfect sear on the scallops. The risotto texture was right and overall was very flavorful and filling without any heaviness. We went here for date night, we had high expectations because we've been to Rays on the river a few times and LOVE it. The food at Killer creek was delicious! I had the lump crab cakes and my date had the horseradish crusted grouper. I am not a fan of horseradish but he let me taste it and it was wonderful! The sangria was very tasty as well. We shared a warm lemon butter cake for dessert. The service however is what stole the show! Our waiter AARON H. was very considerate. There's nothing better than a great evening celebrating with family over great food. I hadn't been to a Ray's restaurant since before the pandemic, and this evening definitely pulled me back in. The highlight of our dining experience was our incredible server, Erubiel. He was knowledgeable about the menu items and attentive to whatever we needed- most times anticipating it even before we asked. He kept us laughing the entire evening. Date night in the middle of the week Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and just what a 5 star restaurant must have. He suggested the Barbecue shrimp to start our dining experience after taking out drink order. Yes the Barbecue shrimp is like nothing you would expect with the name Barbecue, the Cajun and butter sauce the shrimp was prepared perfectly. The grit cake it was served on could not have completed the shrimp and sauce any better. It was truly start of a great evening. The two specials we ordered were beautiful, my wife had the sea bass with diver scallops, I had the twist on the surf and turf / two Filet Mignonette Medallions one topped with fried lobster tail and the other topped with a crab cake drizzled with a hollandaise sauce on a bed of mashed potatoes with asparagus. I was recommended this place by a friend and it was very good! We ordered the calamari as our starter and it was fresh, but it wasn't the most flavorful. I ordered the crab cakes which were okay and my mother ordered the wagyu burger, which she said was great and was very tender. However, the show stopper of the evening was the lemon butter cake which was just *chefs kiss* so good. It was indescribable. Oh you mean cooked?" -- The Cowboy Way (1994) It has been ages since I've ventured North to this Ray's family gem and I had forgotten what a treat it is. The best friend was in town and wanted to take me out for my birthday. This was one of our old favorites decades ago, so she asked if we could go back. She made a reservation and we we showed up a couple of minutes early. We checked in and they didn't seat us until about 30 minutes after our reservation time. Huge problem - people came and went and when we were finally seated, there were several open tables around us. No excuse for the large delay and no apologies from anyone. Cameron, our server, came by immediately and welcomed us - he told us there would be a 2nd server Bryson, but Bryson never served our table. He was quite polite and accommodated my allergies and other special requests. He was attentive without being at the table too much. We were celebrating and catching up, so it was nice to be left alone - especially since we were made to wait for so long. Angie tried to order the the fig old fashioned, but they were unable to serve even though it was on the menu. No explanation why, but asked her to pick something else. Odd. We perused the menu and decided on dinner and appetizers. We asked for the Brussels sprouts to come out first - it's a shareable side, but we ordered it as an app. These are worth ordering as a double and eating just for dinner. Caramely and crispy and full of flavor, I was fighting Angie for the last few leaves. For dinner, I opted for the Artisanal greens (without blue cheese or pecans, since I am allergic to both) and the Delmonico ribeye. The salad was great with the dried cranberries and balsamic vinaigrette...who needs nuts and cheese? As for the steak, it was perfectly cooked medium rare, as requested. The mashed potatoes were pretty spot on and it came with a fried onion ring on top. It was succulent and the right level of salinity with a bit of char on the edges. Deliciously sinful. Once most of us arrived and was seated our hostess went to the manager to have us moved to a larger space. Ray's has a large variety of options; fresh fruit, roasted vegetables, grits, potatoes, omelette and crepe stations, beef, chicken, seafood and so much more! The staff are all professional, friendly, accommodating and present without being overbearing. Parking, the facility, restroom and dining room is aesthetically appealing and clean. Wait staff was good. My expectations for the food was much more than what was actually delivered. I found the pita chips served with the spinach dip inconsistent in texture. Not completely crisp and with a little bit of a chew. We asked for the oysters to be delivered without the bacon but they came with the bacon. My son ordered his filet medium rare and it came medium well. The mashed potatoes served with the crabcakes were cold. I want to kick this review off with some encouragement to keep reading So, we kicked off with a bread basket - everyone knows restaurant carbs are way better than any other type of carb. Said breadbasket came with a cute little ramekin of butter which contained not one, but two shards of porcelain. How do I know you ask? My husband nearly cracked a tooth on the first shard. Yet, despite this, we still had a lovely evening due mostly to our sever, Nick. From the moment we were greeted by Nick, he made our evening enjoyable. You can always tell when servers have that special something that shows they care about what they do and the experience their customers has. Nick has this in spades. He made delicious suggestions, was very knowledgeable about the menu and attentive to our table. My man and I had date night at Ray's At Killer Creek over the weekend. I recommend making a reservation on OpenTable as they were very busy in there! I admired the decor upon entry, especially the light fixtures. We were seated right in front of the musician/pianist and at first we were annoyed because we dont love live music, but he was actually very very good and considerate of the noise being so near us. Our waiter was nice and attentive enough. We started with cocktails. I was a little unimpressed with the Blueberry Bramble...it was stiff but the flavor did not knock my socks off and I'd say there's an opportunity for improvement on presentation by possibly adding a garnish. Just a thought, for a $13 drink! We had oysters on the half shell as our appetizer, which at market price were $3/oyster and very yummy. To eat, my partner ordered the crab stuffed flounder and loved it. He gobbled that up quick! I had the crab cakes and asked for the garlic butter for my whipped potatoes. So yummy!
