I feel like it took years to find the most honest mechanic I have met in this town. I was referred to him by my neighbor who took her car there to be looked out. He honestly told her that her car was in perfect condition instead of other mechanics that would have taken advantage. I took both my cars there, he called me with the problem and charged the most reasonable price. He then fixed my other car that another mechanic wanted to get parts for and take it for a week. Can't say enough good things about ray. My wifes car broke down on the 2 freeway had the car towed to raise because it was the closest place that would work on a Mini Cooper. Not only did he take great care of us got the car looked at immediately he also went above and beyond with the troubleshooting. He didn't settle for the obvious things which would have cost of about $1,000 he took the time to dig deeper saved us about $700 and that's just the beginning. I work in Encino she works near downtown the car was in Eagle Rock. They waited until about 4 hours after he closed so that we could pick up the car make payment and he could explain to us exactly what was wrong with the car. He even topped off the oil! It may be a far drive from Encino but certainly could not have asked for better service. Would highly recommend to anyone read more

To start off this review I want to say that my fear of not finding a good auto repair place ranks neck and neck with my fear of the dentist! My malfunction indicator light turned on yesterday! I panicked! My knowledge of cars is extremely limited to pumping gas! I looked upon Rays auto repair in eagle rock and found a couple placed on Yahoo(which were good) and four more on a local locations site..all four reviews there were excellent! So I called Ray and he said he would take care of it. Several hours later my car was fixes. It was the thermostat. I can honestly say I felt comfortable taking my car there. I took my car here when Ray was here, but I think the business has been sold. Bad news. "Ray" kept my car for a week and a half, couldn't figure out the problem, charged me 75 to get my car back. And then I get a notice from the parking people in Glendale. My car was ticketed for restricted parking in Glendale while in "Ray's" custody. No mention of this when I picked up the car. I live several houses up from Ray's. There should be no reason why I don't use him since I can drop off the car and walk up the street and continue my life. I've had him replace a CV boot on a car once and his price came out cheaper than other estimates. He did the job without a hitch. But for the last several job estimates, he gave estimates that came out more and I have had to use other shops. The most recent was today, I walked over to get an estimate on an a/c evacuate, replace an a/c sensor, and recharge. He gave me a quote $50 more ($250) than PJ's (Eagle Rock Auto) up the street ($200). I really want to use Ray's, only if he'll give me the lower price. read more

Rays auto has been my go to guy for over 30 years. I am really sorry to say he really dropped the ball when it came to my 1996 Ford Ranger. Ray sent my truck to a machine shop to work on the "heads". Well apparently they messed up my truck. Ray had my truck for several weeks, I had to rent a car in the mean time which got very costly. When I finally could not take it Ray demanded that I pay an additional 600 dollars to put new "heads", I desperately needed my truck so I paid the extra money, well to this day the truck runs really bad and the check engine light has stayed on. I finally after several weeks gave up and picked up my truck. So disappointed I bought a new car. The truck that was a big part of my life, as it was given to me by someone who was very special, thanks to Ray it became a piece of crap. Ray you really let me down and what really was bad that you start telling anyone who would listen that I owe you 1000 dollars. Ray my truck was never fixed and that is FACT. I glided into this repair place cuz my car overheated. He appeared to be honest. He could have charged me up the yang for a new radiator or whatever, but he didn't. The ability to walk away from any auto repair establishment under a $100 is a lucky day. He charged me $75 and said my hose from the radiator to the engine blew off completely. Hence the reason why I overheated in a split second. Would I go again? Probably in an emergency cuz he's so close to work. I guess we'll see how honest the second time will be. I needed to get my smog test done in order to get this year's tags. Time was running out, and I was afraid my test wouldn't pass because of the check engine light. I live in Northern CA and go to L.A. a few times a year to visit relatives. My auto is approaching 380-thousand miles and for some reason it always chooses L.A. to have issues. My cousins use Ray's as their repair place and twice now, in an emergency, Ray and his crew have received my auto, towed in by AAA, and diagnosed issues and repaired them quickly, economically and effectively. While the facilities are not fancy, I can assure you that the service is top notch. They diagnose well, price their work fairly and complete the jobs on time. When he gives a quote, e.g. he'll say, the labor is $400 and the part is $50. (roughly $450). If the actual price of the part is less, he'll increase the labor charge to make up the difference, totaling about $450. Also, he's in the habit of not giving a written estimate.
