when I first came to this shop, service was good... as time passed their service started to go down hill, had my engine replaced, but it was a sh** job... my car was reeking of gas, people would stop and tell me my car has a heavy smell of gas and i should not drive it. also had my ac compressor replaced with another used one which cost $450... the ac still doesnt work, i have been going back and forth with Ray, but it seems every time i leave my car to get fixed, it gets more fu**ed up... SCAM... not an honest person... on his poster of list of things he repairs, on the bottom of the list, it reads, "bible service... free" or something like that... he needs to remove that... dont go here. i had to stop... his mechanics are more of parts changers than real mechanics... should ask if his shop and or mechanics are ASE certified... again... Just took my 97 lexus there to get the struts replaced. Dealer quoted me 700'ish for the front and 700ish for the back. Ray got front and back stuts done, and even changed the plugs for just under 800. This guy is great. Honest and efficient at what they do. Don't be scared of the location. The shop has what it needs to do the work. I dont need a fancy waiting area for my car to get worked on like the big guys have. Daphne w's post is hilarious. she doesn't know that in order too look at the clutch you have to remove a transmission. how do you look at a sliced piece of ham in a sandwich that is already in between two pieces of bread with mayo...you have to open it up. it's common sense to a mechanic, I can see why she is whining, cuz she thought you just wave a magic wand over the clutch area and everything is good, " she also states her friend took the car back after a few months and mr ray took the transmission out, transmissions do go out, especially when you dump the clutch a lot. anyways, I burned my clutch at the drag races one day (550 hp 427 big block)...had a jack and a 9/16 socket...removed the transmission and reinstalled an old clutch at the races and drove it home, but that's cuz I know what I'm doing. read more

The only reason I had even come to this place was because it was near where my car had broke down & my mechanic is about 200 miles away & i saw lots of good reviews so I went in to have my master cylinder replaced which was a decent job, upon arriving home I popped the hood to look at my engine & i see they had left a wrench in, now that my car was drivable I took it to my trusted mechanic and when he did his inspection he noticed a leak and had told me they unscrewed the cap to my transmission fluid, definitely a shop that will screw you over. will never come near this place again. OMG what can say - Ray is THE BEST! I'm new to the area & needed to get some work done on my van. He was more than accommodating and professional. The first time you go there don't be deterred by the location. He's at the end of a row of garage businesses. Got tired of going to the expensive car dealerships and retail/auto repair stores that do mediocre to poor work. Came across this business here in Yelp and read all of the reviews. Since all but one were positive, I figure I'd give this place a try. I met the owner Ray and told him my service needs for my Toyota Tundra - brakes and oil change. Boy was I blown away! The estimate and final cost was approximately one third to one half less than what I would've paid at a dealership or retail/auto repair store. Best of all it took only 1.5 hours to do the total work - from test drive/inspection to maintenance to final drive and inspection. At a dealership or retail/auto repair store my vehicle would be there anywhere from half to a full day. Look, if you're looking for a no frills, inexpensive, quality auto repair place Ray's Car Care is where you need to go. I'm already going back in a couple of days to get my wife's car an oil change (about $12-13 depending on vehicle). Guess that means Ray and his crew are my new mechanics. As a US Navy veteran, I'm happy to say Ray is also retired US Navy. Plus Ray is one of the nicest people you will meet. By the way, this is not a fake review; I'm a first time customer who took a chance on this business because of the positive Yelp reviews and I can honestly say that I will be a repeat customer from here on out. DON'T BRING YOUR CAR HERE!!!! I took in my Honda for new brakes. I liked Ray, he seems like a nice guy. We went to pick up the car after I got a call that it was ready. Ray was no longer there. We were told they had taken my car for a test drive. We waited 40 minutes for the mechanic testing it (Mike) to come back! This whole time this guy was out there with my car! When he retured we asked him, "Where did you go?" and he said "to test it". We pushed a little further "for 40 minutes you were testing it?" and he just said "sorry" and proceeded to hide. When I called Ray to tell him about this he tried to convince me this is normal...no big deal. If you don't mind lending your car out for these clowns to run errands and stuff then by all means bring it to Rays.... Integrity is the correct word, after calling around to almost a dozen places who wanted at least 100$ to even to even look at my car (as well as needing an appointment) I happened across Rays number and gave it a shot. He said come right in, I did and he and his crew had me out in a few minutes. The problem that I thought I had fixed had a little issue, he figured it out and fixed it so fast he told me he couldn't even charge for the labor and since no parts were needed it was free. He gave me a card and bid me a good day. Next time I need work, this will be the place. I've had work done at many shops, and I will return to Rays (hope not to soon, but cars need work and it is nice to know a place that won't bs me and charge me for nothing). read more

Fellow citizens, Ray's Car Care is a total scam. Save yourself a headache and don't waste your time and money there. Ray's mechanics are absolute amateurs and they are not ASE certified! They butchered a brand new AC compressor kit that I provided from the dealer then blamed it on "defective parts". I left my car there for 3 full days and they could not repair anything. Ray kept calling me trying to add new additional repairs and hike up the price. Little did Ray know that I already had two diagnoses from other mechanics and I refused to let him scam me. He started getting loud with me on the phone and he started talking over me and would not listen to anything I had to stay. Then I told him he was being rude to me and he just said like "so what if I'm rude"... Ray has the worst customer service skills I have ever witnessed, and he does not care one bit about the customer needs, he just wants your money. Ray will smile at you, and act all polite, but as soon as you turn around he will be stabbing you in the back. Don't believe any of his antics, he is just an actor. One day, as I drove up to his garage I noticed his mechanics were in the driveway throwing food or something at some other mechanics at the garage next door to Ray's. Another time, I noticed his mechanics started some sort of fire and the place filled up with smoke so I ran out of there, I thought the place was going to burn down... Ray's mechanics are clowns and his garage is a 3 ring circus... His mechanics also left an engine part on top of my car that I did not notice until I got home, they forgot to put it back on, it was the throttle cable cover, luckily it did not blow off on the drive home and I had to put it back myself. Also, I noticed some other customer drove up to Ray's when I was there, he was in a SUV and he was so pissed off. He started yelling at Ray because they didn't fix his SUV, I thought to myself "I'm out of here" because I did not want to end up like that guy. Don't pay attention to any of those positive comments on the Yelp page; those are just Ray's friends and neighbors saying nice things as a favor for him. The truth is found in all of the negative comments. Whatever you do, do not go to Ray's, you will regret it. Ray's Car Care is the worst auto repair garage on planet earth. read more

Thank you so much yelp for leading me to this place! Dare I say this could be the best Mechanic in San Diego and I don't think I will ever take my car anywhere else ever again. I needed my axles replaced so I brought it to Ray after reading the reviews on here. Earlier in the week pepboys quoted me $500 to get them fixed this being after it took them 2 days to just replace my breaks pad. God knows I wasn't gonna leave the car with those bafoons any longer then I had to plus $500 is a big chunk of change. Ray did a free inspection to make sure pepboys wasn't trying to rip me off. I dropped my car off around 11AM. A couple minutes later Ray calls me and confirms the axles do indeed need to be replaced, he would have it ready in two hours and would only cost 250 bucks! What a great guy, got my car back its running great he even cleaned the "brand new" break pads pepboys put in which had been squeeling like crazy after install. This guy is the most honest mechanic I have ever met and his prices literally can't be beat. Do yourself a favor and take your car to Ray it's the best decision you are ever gonna make. read more
