I was really excited to try this place when I saw the nostalgic look of the hamburger joint. Unfortunately it was a little disappointed when it came out as a frozen patty instead of a fresh. It kind of reminds me of the old hamburger places that used to put cooked patties in a drawer with beef juice to keep them moist. The place is small which is okay places to eat outside are kept neat and tidy. The young lady that waited on us and was very nice and efficient.

Great little take out only diner. Burgers and fried dinners. Flavored milkshakes. Great place lunch or dinner.

Quick and reliable with none of the frills because some folks don't need frills! You've got to know Ray's is a Grand Haven institution with a following. Devotees have been noshing for years on beefburgers, fries, and milkshakes as a quick meal en route to the beach, on the way home from work, or just to get a bite. During the pandemic it's drive-in only. Park in a numbered stall and order by phone. A masked and gloved employee delivers your order to your car and collects your money. Easy. The food is drive-in fare, nothing fancy, and it's not trying to be fancy. I got a deluxe cheeseburger, crinkle cut fries, and a chocolate shake. Inexpensive and tasted fine enough for me. We also tried the onion petals, and these also were good (they even come with onion petal sauce, into which I dipped my fries). It's not gourmet, but it's also not priced to be gourmet. What you see is what you get. I love food without pretentiousness. I'll be back. Order up! --Jayson

It was good for, especially for the price. There was a lot of variety and something for the whole family. The service was decent but it took a bit of time- I would most definitely go back, but not if I was in a rush.

One of the best in simple.. Easy menu, the shakes have the most options.. They are not fast food, It will take longer than the burger chains for a good reason.. After your order the number of burger patties will be shouted back to the grill to get the order started.. No heat lamp in sight, this burger/fish shop is performing without a net.. It is one of many greasy local gems more than worthy of a stop.. Delicious

A cute little diner in a town that is reminiscent of Lake Geneva, minus the Illinois license plates. During this COVID-19 business, you pull into a parking place (they're numbered) and call in your order. After a short wait, someone brings it to your car. I ordered a perch sandwich, that had two breaded, fried, perch fillets on a hamburger bun. I enjoyed the sandwich and perhaps I'll have a chance to visit here again, sometime after the Covid-19 baloney is all finished.

Ray's is about as basic as a restaurant can get. No place to eat inside, no bathrooms, no sink to wash your hands, just good food.

Overcooked small burgers. It was much better 10-15 years ago. I think the ownership changed.

Service was slow out of the gate -- despite our waiter hanging out with a table he clearly knew. Food didn't fare much better. We ordered the smash burger, which by definition should come with cheese and smash sauce -- that's the whole point of a smash burger, not an add-on. Ours came with neither, and even though it had two patties, we had to pay extra just to add a single slice of cheese. It was incredibly dry, even after adding that cheese and trying table condiments to compensate. The chicken tenders looked appetizing but the chicken itself was stringy and overcooked. Dessert was the low point. We ordered the Oreo cheesecake bites and waited over 20 minutes, only to be served what was essentially liquid pudding in a shooter glass with whipped cream on top. Our server admitted, "I didn't know I was supposed to make it" -- it seems the dessert needed time to set in the fridge and was served before it was ready. While we were waiting we heard another table complaining. The server responded "chill. It's all good". The table responded "actually it's not all good!" Three strikes and we're out. We won't be back.

The wings seemed to be fried with maybe a little bit of corn starch and were okay, and you can add sauces including Buffalo, BBQ and anything from their wall of bottled sauces. The real star was the Brussels sprouts which had kind of a honey, balsamic, chili sauce. They were crispy and very well cooked. The service was also great. The servers were highly attentive. There were multiple TVs playing the French Open including a huge wall sized projection. Great place for watching sports!

And I have to say I think this is lack of singular focus on just one type of food and offering too many different items is probably what leads to some of their stuff tasting meh to horrible. First, the shareables. The elote fries were completely bland. The fries themselves were soggy and limp (they're called fries, for crying out loud) and despite there being plenty of toppings, none of the toppings worked together. This dish was absolutely awful. Their chips and guac were fine. The guac was nice and limey. The chips were actually quite crispy and well-seasoned, which made no sense to me given the fries were the opposite. Maybe they outsource their chips. Entree-wise, we had tacos, both meat and vegetarian. Meat-wise, the pulled chicken was awful, super dry meat and yet the tacos were soaked through, I have no idea how they pulled that off, so it was pretty inedible. The beef one, which is a recent special, just tasted...wrong. Not sure how to describe it, other than it just left a bad taste in my mouth. The fried fish was actually okay. For the vegetarian options, the falafel was also very off. Something weird about their seasoning, it's just not like your typical falafel so idk what's going on there. The sweet potato and seasonal veggie ones were pretty good, though. Tortillas overall were fine but when you have to double-stack them, and the fillings still soak through, making actually eating them a form of labor, something is not working with how you are building your tacos. Service - everyone seemed friendly enough. Overall - pick a different taco place to get food from.
